Superb pub for real ale and cider lovers. The ability to order your take away and eat at the table is a nice way to spend an evening as you try a few of the ever-changing list of beers on offer.

Stopped by before Christmas to grab a drink, but as soon as we got in there, the pungent smell of body odour hit us. There is clearly no ventilation in this place and it made me want to throw up. Smelly local pub for smelly local people.

We visit roughly once a month. Always a good atmosphere and a good selection of beer. Food however is supply your own.

Well... I was greeted by about 12 cyclists all wearing their helmets locked in fully to ride. There was a young a lady, eating space raiders that really put me off my appetite and my cruzcampo that I had In hand and I couldn't wait to get away. On top of that, all I could smell was farts... non, stop, farts. It was grotesque. The fact my friend paid for my pint - i still want a refund. We came out for a pub crawl, but we reverted to.. the Christmas fart crawl.. Not impressed.

Still a great old school pub that allows ordering food in and has great scotch eggs and rolls for emergency mid drink fueling. The range of beers is great and the staff are friendly - even Alice!

Good beer, great garden and smoking area. Ham rolls scotch eggs are cheap as chips and proper quality. I have a pint of Saint Michael and ham roll for seven quid. Then cigarette in the heated garden brilliant. Also just tried the mulled cider which is a serious mulled cider 7.5 hello.

Classic spit and sawdust pub with huge selection of beers and ales, always a friendly atmosphere and never a wait to get served. Also able to order takeaway in and use their plates, cutlery is a nice touch.

The name Fat Cat is very popular amongst some of the best cask pubs in the country...the one in Norwich and Sheffield are well renowned, this seems quite their equal. 11 beers on gravity and one hand pump when I went in on a Tuesday. No food beyond some snacks, but plates and cutlery provided with a stack of takeaway menus. Not the cheapest beer in town, but I'm sure I'll stop in next time I make it to Ipswich.

What a great pub! The very best real ale for many miles. Top notch. No food, no music, fruit machines or TV. Great.

30 minutes from the station, bus ride and short walk. Very welcoming, staff and customers. Excellent selection of real ales and a vegan pop up outside. 20 minute walk on to the football at Ipswich Wanderers.

This is a great place to talk with friends, old and new. There is a varied selection of craft beers and ciders that make the place a good place to try something new. They also have a decent selection of gins, rums, and other spirits, and plenty of options for snacks if you get peckish. The atmosphere can best be described as cosy, as there are secluded tables inside and in the garden, so you have a bit of privacy if you want it. This is enhanced by the lack of music and TVs. Other patrons are friendly, and you will often find at least one group to join in conversation. Overall, if you're looking for a night of conversation and socialising without distractions, this is the place for you.

Visiting for the weekend. Great to find a local with a traditional local atmosphere and good choice of beers. The garden makes for a nice place to while away a pint or two.

Fat Cat “free mouse” free house. No food (as far as I could tell, no kids, no cats - strangely. But lots of quality beers, knowledgeable bar staff, and a nice big beer garden. Interior is a bit small and beery as one might expect. I like it!

We've been using The Fat Cat for years now and you really cannot go wrong with this pub. A real gem for real ale enthusiasts, with a varied selection of house and guest ales on offer. As well as a friendly atmosphere and helpful staff, there's also a lovely garden offering outdoor seating, which is a great place to be in the summer months. It's definitely one of the best pubs in Ipswich, which I'd happily recommend to anyone looking for a great local.

A proper drinking pub, great choice, great service

Very accommodating staff let 13 of us walk our bikes through the bar and into the beer garden. Great Fat Cat beer of course.

Great pub good selection of real ales kept superbly and no food .What more would you want perhaps outside toilets well you can't have it all .Triffic !! Oh and sometimes Peter Sarstead is behind the bar !!

Fantastic pub, whisper it quietly in these parts but not as good as the Fat Cat in Norwich, but brilliant nonetheless. Great range of really well kept ales and a superb chilli Scotch Egg. If you're in Ipswich you MUST visit this pub.

The Fat Cat has always been one of Ipswich's best pubs. It has real character with a cosy wooden interior, a warm atmosphere, and a large beer garden out back. Food is limited to the odd homemade scotch egg and a selection of crisps, but the star of the show is the selection of real ales served at very affordable prices - check out the chalkboards above the bar for the range available. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the locals are relaxed and chatty. Always great for an evening's supping and conversation.

Good beer but no pool table, but I do like that they let you get food delivered there to eat. Not bad for a fat cat. (I haven't tried the food).

Lovely neighbourhood pub just outside of town. Good,, wide range of well kept ales — worth the walk. Nice atmosphere, friendly, smiley, informed staff. Cheap cab ride back to station. Garden looked nice for summer months, will visit again. Only suggestion is background music and bigger glasses of wine.

Absolutely my favourite pub in Ipswich.🍻

Firstly the beer is top notch and served by staff passionate about it. Talk to the staff, they are very knowledgeable and will make suggestions if you ask about what beer to have next and offer samples. The garden is large, comfy and beautifully manicured. If you feel hungry they encourage you order food from the local take aways and have it delivered to the pub. I could sit there all day sipping jubels and brewers gold. Looking just over a tenner for 2 beers, it's a good price for quality, range, knowledge and comfort.

My local..... Why would I go anywhere else? With its bonanza of beer choices And Ciders on tap. And an appealing attractive garden to sit. Doesn't do food but you can order a takeaway to eat in away from the busy weekends.

this is an excellent pub. A wide variety of beers all well looked after. Food is not served in the pub but a thai food take away is outside which you can buy and bring inside to eat with the bar supplying plates cutlery etc. A very pleasant and enjoyable evening.

Lovely venue, with some great beer. We had an Amstel and a Bitburger. Say outsider in the smoking area. Very clean and tidy with plenty of room to sit.

The first time in about 10 years I've come back. Great pub, good garden to sit in, plenty of tables. Great selection of beers and ales, the best selection to be honest, it's hard to pick what you want!

So this place was built up to me as the best pub in ipswich for quite a while, so I had pretty low expectations because I'm naturally suspicious of everyone's overzealous rec. But I gotta say, I loved this place. It was in a neat neighborhood, it was comfortable, had a great vibe, everyone was friendly, good drinks, and we had to go food that was awesome. I loved this place and I'll be back for sure.

This is just a special pub. Great bar staff, they are extremely knowledgeable and always welcoming. This is a fine example of the real British pub, the sound of conversation & laughter washed down with good ale. Must be Ipswichs best pub by far.

Very popular today. A welcome respite after just too many hours of the funeral on TV today. (4:30 pm visit.) Tap room ales and great choice of Continental and European lagers. Some 8% &9% strength. Ho,ho,ha,ha! Wow!

What can you say? Top blokey real ale palace plus lager for real ale defectors like me. All that and porky scratchings too! Nice garden for smoking boozers too and u can bring take-aways in on non-weekend nights. A delight always, especially for us old silver foxes!

Always a favourite place to catch up with friends. Added bonus of being able to order a takeaway.

Lovely staff, great conversationalist customers, and an ever changing selection of fine ales and ciders. Gins, whiskies, wines, and select other spirits are also available, as well some snack foods and tobacco products.
