Probably the best meal we have ever had at this restaurant, my wife and I went out for my birthday treat, we didn’t book because it was early afternoon we called in. I ordered a pint of Hen Harrier while we were looking over the huge menu, the beer was excellent. We both ordered the Chicken wings and they were delicious, to be honest , the both of us could have shared one portion because there was so many. My wife had a small mushroom Fettuccine, and I had the sea bass, both meals were cooked to perfection. Compliments to the kitchen staff and the Chef.

Sadly not as it used to be, took well over half an hour to get our drinks which we ended up getting from the bar ourselves as our order was on an tray sat waiting to be brought to us. Service was incredibly slow, wine glasses were not clean. Seems there is no one taking charge and managing the staff. Our waitress was very young and doing the best she could. She was very apologetic and told us that too many bookings were regularly taken and they just did not have enough staff to deal with all the customers that come through the door.

Currently sitting in the cafe. Arrived 45 mins ago.. ordered coffees and food. The coffees arrived half an hour ago. Still waiting for the sandwiches.. Staff uninterested.. actually quite surly. Food just arrived whilst I’m writing this.. 50mins in. Got the order wrong… offered to correct the error, but can’t risk the wait! Fish finger sandwiches cold, as if they’ve been left standing waiting for the rest of the order.. Nachos were nice! Definitely won’t return, and can’t recommend.

We haven't visited in a while, but it won't be a visit we will be repeating. The evening set off well but there was a major issue in the kitchen so they stopped food orders ( despite us having a table booked). The service was haphazard,we had to ask for everything, plates, napkins, seek staff for another drink. The toilets had no paper towels, in every cubicle the toilet roll was on the floor. The bill was wrong, there were items on that we hadn't had. Seems to be lacking a manager with experience, there are a lot of youngsters working there who clearly need direction.

I couldn't fault the service however the food was awful, ordered a pizza, it was raw, I had eaten some of it before I realised the underneath was just dough and flour, absolutely disgusting, I sent it back to have another made but I had lost my appetite by then and I just couldn't eat it, this was a treat night out for my friend going through treatment for her cancer, I wasn't even offered a discount, I paid and left purely as I didn't want to cause a scene and stress for my friend but never again, this was my first and last time.

Visited this morning for coffee with a friend. In spite of there being 3 staff behind the bar I had to go and ask to be served. Staff look disinterested and not very happy. On ordering 2 more coffees one of them was incorrect. Service is very slow here and staff appear to have no direction at all. It's a lovely building but on reading the reviews this is not The Emporium of old. I would be surprised if these reviews are even looked at.

An absolutely shocking experience due to extremely poor staff. We waited 10 minutes to receive and menu you and then another 15 before we decided to go and find a member of staff to take an order. This venue seem to be by staffed by screeching young girls who were more interested in gossiping about nights out a. boyfriends and singing whilst hanging out at the bar. There was no management presents in attendance to sort this out and it gave an extremely poor impression of the company. It's a shame because we absolutely love the building but I would definitely not recommend this venue under its current conditions.

As I understand the pub works also as a furniture show room and the interior itself and the way it is quite lavishly decorated is quite splendid. Adds this place a lot of character. Visited tonight with my husband and little dog, lovely looking place and service initially. I noticed when meals were coming out they looked good and attentive service with staff coming and checking if everything was ok.I ordered ( as described on the menu ) fettuccine with chicken and wild mushrooms in a white wine, garlic and cream sauce with light herbs. What I actually got was fettuccine with shed loads of pesto which I am NOT a fan of at all!At no point did ANY staff member come over to ask if everything was ok despite several glances over where a VERY OBVIOUS uneaten bowl of food sat. At last someone came over asked if all was ok to which it was pointed out it was not. The lady actually agreed with me that it looked like it was covered in pesto. Shortly after she came back and said 50% had been taken off the pasta dish. I honestly think that this should of been taken off the bill completely and that apparently there has always been pesto in the dish. Tbh the biggest issue I have is the fact that a menu should reflect what is actually in the dish. Plus from an allergens point of view what would of happened if I had an allergen to something not mentioned in the menu ?I also believe that service should be consistent to each customer which was not the case. Very disappointing

A couple of years on from our last visit and we were extremely impressed at the way the Emporium has come out of lockdown. Friendly, helpful staff found us a good table and coped with our indecision; when our food arrived we found it generous, imaginative, eye-ctaching and great value. A visitor from the South West was overwhelmed by the excellence and price of the ploughman's platter. Good wines, as has always been the case here. Great to see it return to form.

We ordered coffees, a vegetarian breakfast and scrabled eggs and salmon on toast. My friends breakfast wasn't much to write home about. My scrabled eggs were nice, the amout of salmon was pathetic and the whole dish was overwhelmed by two huge slices of white toast. At almost £9 I'd have expected better presentation and amout of salmon provided.Unfortunately our visit was tarnished as both of us have suffered with upset stomachs not long after our leaving.

She communicated my needs to the chef and they changed a meal to my specific needs and likes.I was so nervous as this was my first meal out on a very restrictive diet and all my needs were accommodated and all with a smile. I’m not sure what the lady was called but I’d like to say a huge thank you to her and the chef. Also your online table booking can't be trusted as I have been in when visiting my mother who lives in Clitheroe and managed to get a table the same day when web site said full. We like the town of Clitheroe. It has an incredible butchers with a dumbfounding range of locally produced sausages, and the famous D Byrne and Co, an award-winning wine shop with a range of wines that leave you breathless. And it has The Emporium. A restaurant bar on three floors that rarely fails to impress. We wanted to enjoy the great outdoors and the sunshine, and tried the outside eating area of Piccolino first, but despite being two thirds empty, the manager decided it was all booked up! His loss was the Emporium's - and our own - gain.It was only a Saturday late lunch, but absolutely lovely, supported by superb service at the top of the house. Pizzas were the best in a long while, my type of crispy, home made dough and not smothered in cheap tomato sauce just to make it look good. Plenty of chicken and pepperoni respectively on the two (stone baked Espanola - Spiced chicken, roast red peppers & chorizo topped with fresh basil and Capricciossa - Olives, artichokes & forest mushrooms respectively). The cheese and pate board (Sandham’s Lancashire, cheese, Garstang white brie, chicken liver pâté, tomato, chutney, grapes and crusty farmhouse bread) for Mrs Steddyeddy and the Ploughmans board (Garstang blue and Lancashire cheese, ham hock terrine, pork pie, tomato chutney, warm breads, pickled onions, green sala) for our guest was ample and delicious resulting in clean plates for both. The only downside losing them a mark was a small Fever Tree mixer priced at £2 and a Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime Cider at £5.20 for 330ml when 500ml is £2.20 in the supermarket.Otherwise, we'll be back when in the town again.

No lemon no peppers only 1 Pat of butter 3 cod gougons on the large ? But by far the worst issue was the tasteless watery frozen prawns ! If you are charging £16 for a seafood platter surely you should provide fresh prawns ? You could buy them next door at Sainsbury’s for goodness sake ! I told the waitress the soup was delicious but the issues with the seafood platter and she said she would pass them onto the chef !No apologies or discount to the bill ! A friend came to visit me in clitheroe today and wanted to visit the emporium as she had heard lovely things about it. With it being a Saturday and the current situation I said we could bob in as we were already in town and see if they have any available tables as we hadn’t booked but they may not be able to seat us which is totally understandable. We arrived and as soon as I walked through the door a waitress carrying drinks to some other customers stopped me to ask if I had reserved a table, I said that no I haven’t, are there any available to which she politely replied ‘no sorry we’re fully booked’ this is totally understandable so we said thank you anyway and started to walk out. As I was walking out unfortunately the waitress following behind me dropped the drinks and spilt the drinks down my back, however I was not at all bothered about this and turned around to see what was going on and upon seeing the spilled drinks and smashed glass checked that the waitress was okay. The waitress apologised at spilling the drinks down me to which I reassured her not to worry, accidents happen- I genuinely was not bothered about this, however she then proceeded to tell me that it was my fault that these drinks had been spilt. I was quite shocked at this statement as I didn’t expect it especially as it wasn’t my fault as I had already turned around and was walking away when the drinks got spilt, and I did not come into physical contact with the waitress or the drinks at all. Accidents happen and I am not complaining at the fact that some drinks got spilt, me and my friend was just a bit shocked that the waitress instantly took it upon herself to declare that it was my fault when it clearly weren’t. Accidents happen but no need to put the blame on to customers.

Popped in for a drink on Monday. We were shown to the bar on the top floor. Despite the ground floor having lots of ales, there were only a couple of lagers on tap on the top floor. Behind us was 3 females and a child. Louder than anything was the females mobile phone playing 'twinkle twinkle little star' and 'baby shark'. If I wanted lazy parenting I'd have stayed in Burnley. Not what I wanted from this establishment. I'll not be going back.

I’ve visited the emporium a lot in the past and have always been obsessed with their hot chocolates. Visited recently with my mum and it wasn’t great.. her strawberry milkshake was also just flavourless milk in a glass. Not in a rush to return..

Nice large portions. Door step bread on the sandwiches and quality meat on the filings. Coffee is perfectly drinkable and an antique mirror interior works well.

I went for a meal with a friend. It’s my first post-lockdown meal out and I was slightly concerned if it would feel ‘weird’ or ‘alien’. However, the atmosphere in The Emporium felt friendly and relaxed (I have eaten here before) yet reassuring with the preventative and safety measures that were in place/taken throughout the evening. It was clear to see the additional cleaning and vigilance to cleanliness and we had a lovely time. Thank you.

I booked online and visited with friends for our first lunch out for months. We have visited before but noticed that they had not removed any tables with the new guidelines. We were seated in a corner with chairs touching the next table which had an elderly lady seated with a child on her knee. No 2 metres, no 1 metre not even 1 cm between people. The manager did not seem to bat an eyelid. When I asked to be moved we were put in a table in the middle of the seating area which required everyone that passed by to almost touch our chairs it was so tightly seated. Again I said it wasn't safe. Eventually we were moved to a table that was socially distanced. With three floors of tables available it seems strange that only the bottom floor is open and is very busy. James' Places is a large company with venues throughout Clitheroe and Lancashire so they should know better.

Called for lunch and ordered the special sandwich of the day - bacon, brie and cranberry , a cajun chicken wrap and a side of chips to share. When she took the order the waitress asked if we had any allergies and when we told her she said she would check with chef before putting the order through. She returned to say that chef had advised that my friend was probably better not having any of the chips as there was a small chance of cross contamination from the fryer as it was also used for other items on the menu. Great customer service..

My best friend had been the previous week for lunch and it was lovely and hot. As a treat for my birthday we ordered the same lunch as previously. The food was half soup with half sandwich, salad and kettle chips. We ordered vegetable soup and fish finger sandwich. When the soup came it was definitely not vegetable but carrot and coriander. We called the waitress over and asked if there had been a mistake but she assured us it was veg. It wasn't. I don't like carrott and coriander, love vegetable soup though. She offered us the other soup but I do not like mushrooms. She had a very glum face like she really did not want to be at work. Our hot fish finger sandwich was not hot when we came to eat it yet the previous week it was still hot after eating the soup first. To be honest if the only soup on offer had been sold as carrot and coriander I would not have ordered it. My friend felt like she had ruined my birthday after the disappointing food and service.

Have been in here on a previous visit to Clitheroe and enjoyed it so on a very wet day we headed there. We were seated downstairs as apparently they had lots of bookings upstairs. It wasn't very warm. We were given the brunch menus and our drinks orders taken. it took ages for the drinks to arrive, and when they did we ordered our food.As it was 20 p ast 11 we couldn't order off the main menu which doesnt start till half past! Both ordered steak and egss which was lovely . 2 eggs, 2 large mushrooms and tomatoes. Took ages to arrive, we had finished our drinks by the time it did arrive. Staff member not interested and it all took so long that we had to virtually run to meet our coach - meaning we had been in there 2 hours!

I booked a table at this restaurant weeks in advance for my 40th birthday meal. There were 16 of us dining altogether. We sat down at our table and my friends proceeded to sing happy birthday to me. 2 minutes after this one of the waitresses came over to ask me if we could keep the noise down. At first I thought she was joking as my friends had only sang happy birthday to me which I don't feel is unreasonable seeing as it was my 40th birthday. I asked the waitress what was wrong with this and she said they had had a complaint. This made us all feel really uncomfortable and angry. My friend asked to speak to a manager as she was not happy with the situation. He said that we needed to keep the noise down and stop "heckling". How is singing happy birthday "heckling". (We were a group of ladies ranging from 40-70 and I assure you we don't heckle). I wouldn't mind it wasn't even a quiet restaurant. It was very busy with lots of people chatting and drinking at the bar area. We ate our meal which was actually very nice but our experience was the complete opposite. Do not book here if you are wanting to celebrate as you will get into trouble for singing happy birthday. We planned to eat breakfast here the following morning but after this we decided not to. I will never visit this restaurant again!

Was refused entry here last night. Guy on the door asked if we had reserved a table. We said we didn't want to eat, just drinks. We were then told he couldn't let us in. There were clearly seats in the bar area free and no one stood at the bar. We were a party of 4. Two couples aged between 58 and 63 celebrating a 60th birthday. No explanation at all. We took our business elsewhere where we were made to feel more welcome !!Not surprised at the amount of reviews that complain about bad service !Always been badly managed. Wont be back.

Lunch out with mum to celebrate what would have been my dads birthday. Love the atmosphere in this place, it’s so quirky and busy with ladies that lunch midweek. I chose the cold fish platter which was very generous and tasty. Mum had tuna steak which was cooked to perfection, so tender. We finished with coffee and miniature desserts. Service was good, waitress very attentive. Lovely place to lunch and good value.

Booked a table so no problems getting seated. However, there were some pretty serious issues going on with other customers. I won’t go into it here but not the fault of the staff at the Emporium. The manager Tom couldn’t have been more apologetic and what started off as a poor experience was well rescued by Tom. Food was excellent.

The staff could not have been more helpful. 5he food was good and with 5he beat the clock incredible value, the drinks cost a lot more than the food. I had had the moules frite, excellent. I think the surroundings are so good, but the staff are top notch. I hope they are well paid, because they deserve to be.

I went for lunch on Wednesday, a table of 7. Told there were no tables available, so as we stood in the bar debating where to go, we were then approached to be told "we've just opened up an area and can now accommodate you". Ok, no problem, though, why you would have an area "closed off" is beyond me. We sat and ordered, service was good, no complaints there, but the food was below mediocre, in fact mine was awful. It was only a Cotto Pizza, you can't even go far wrong with that, but somehow, they did. I ate it under duress, I wasn't going to cause a scene. It was under cooked, just slightly, lacked all seasoning and I mean all, no herbs, pepper, nothing, just tomato paste, cooked ham lobbed on and the thinnest bits of mozzarella ever seen.Woukd I go back?No absolutely not. This is the fifth time I've eaten there and the last three have been very disappointing.Overpriced, overrated garbage.

When we arrived it was very busy around the bar area, we were asked to wait for our table and no one came to help do we asked again and we got seated, the garlic breads were lovely but our main course was just boring. There was no atmosphere apart from really loud people shouting to each other ( which we know is not their fault) we won't hurry back!

EXTREMELY, overrated bar/restaurant, within, the Lancashire scenic countryside-area where, my family originate! Food average but, often tepidly-warm masquerading as, hot dishes. Mussels ALWAYS tepid soup. Was going tobe charged extra for two pieces of bread when, the shot clearly displays this. Pizzas are dry and, appear tobe the mainstay of an uncreative menu. DON'T be fooled by "beat the clock" enticement! SADLY, Clitheroe lacks the sophistication of Cheshire and, it's fair to say any real competition. If YOU are childless avoid like the plague! Unless, YOU wish tobe on duty in a playground. End-of, YOU'VE been warned!
