The Eagle Bar in Manchester

Stupid doorman wouldn't let me in with water in a Stanley cup. Opened to demonstrate it was water, but refused to let me in with it. Been in many, many, many times with it mid-week (Thursday) without an issue. Threw the water out utterly frustrated and it seems that was too much for the doorman who thought my attitude wasn't right for the evening!!

Was sent to film a video for travel company to promote. The owner was SO rude, yet they are full of reels and videos in there. Judgemental. Miserable, Tired, Vampire Energy.

This place. Where are those bouncers from You don’t see Bouncers at Roots club telling people to leave. I even told I promoted that club and when the club was nothing, I promoted. That rude bouncer needs to be fired or I will frustrate his bouncing career. He lacks respect.

The Eagle Bar has recently undergone a lot of improvements that restored him to a place where you can enjoy drinking with friends, as well as meeting new people and have fun. There’s often some party going on and these are usually pretty fun. I like the idea of being able to buy tickets for the events directly from their website, without having to rely on third-party apps that require long registrations, etc. The new Sunday roast is a great idea and I hope that customers will soon see the value of it. I also liked a lot the efforts they put into the Easter weekend when the venue was decorated with hilarious quotes to match the theme. Staff is friendly and usually able to give you information around the events taking places in the venue.

Terrible place unfriendly and a dump

Lovely place on the fringe of the Village. Comfy seats. Pleasant crowd. Great service. I would highly recommend this place for a visit.

My review is referring to my visit on 29/3/2025… The place look cool in the basement. Felt like a meeting point for locals. Staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful with the right drink choices. They’re also selling their own brand (t-shirts, hoodies etc) so I could purchase some cool t-shirts from Manchester as a souvenir. I have a little mixed feeling about the place’s atmosphere as can’t make a decision what kings of bar it was - a cruising area, a meeting point or something more?! I’d definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to visit the city of Manchester. Prices are friendly, the place is dark with red lights.

Visited on a Sunday aft, hours advertised as 1pm onwards, but didn't physically open until 2pm , happy hour is until 4pm , but HH drinks and prices not advertised anywhere. Cabaret/ drag doesn't start until after 4pm not the time advertised, so clarity and accurate info required, and web etc needs to get updated. Overall not the same experience as pre-covid, they don't seem to have any "normal " nights , all are themed , and the customers are very cliquey.

If you're single, try joining a group from a nearby bar to get in. If you're a man of color, the struggle is still real. For women, there's not much for you. Stay calm—they can walky talky you to be barred from other spots nearby. My experience: we went to checkout the place. After finishing our first beers, we decided to leave our jackets in our nearby hotel room so we dont have to hold them all night. My partner (white) went back to the bar 10 min earlier than me. I was denied entry for not having a membership. I wonder how my partner got his membership since it was our first time visiting the UK.

Perfect for Leathermen, any day of the week. A must visit, especially for the monthly Manchester Leathermen socials, the Great British Bear Bash weekend every May, during the Manchester Pride Festival every August bank holiday weekend and during the Manchester Leather Weekend every October.

We spend several nights in that bar and it was great. Higly recommended.

On the 23/08/2024, myself and a close friend who lives with server learning difficulties attended the venue for the first day of Manchester Pride. My friend approached the bar to ask a member of staff who goes by the title 'Daddy' a question about the venue and I was left in a state of shock at how rude he was towards someone living with disabilities. After more than three months of avoiding the venue, last night (25/10/2024), me and the same person decided to give this bar another shot and surprise, surprise the same barman was on shift. I was utterly blindsided upon approaching the bar because he decided it would be a great opportunity to thank me for leaving the negative review I did after leaving during Manchester Pride over his absolutely despicable attitude. Initially, I genuinely was bewildered as to which comment he was referencing specifically it wasn't until we left due to being refused service that my friend reminded me of the Google Review. Can you get anymore unprofessional than this? This particular individual is more than twice my age and most certainly shouldn't be airing his issues at his place of work while other guests are present. Since no disciplinary action has been taken I will be escalating this further. Ps: With all due respect, 'Daddy', aren't you a little old and tired to be behaving the way you are? Maybe if you spoke to customers with respect people wouldn't feel the need to leave a negative review. Upon attending a different place last night...well...let's just say we was kindly informed about you. Its people like you that are the illness rotting Canal Street. How did it feeling holding that in for more than three months 😹

As much as the Eagle comes with a bit of a reputation, it's one of a few bars in the village where attitudes are checked at the door. The DJ's are decent, they have a well stocked bar, staff are friendly and down to earth. It's now our go-to venue for a night out.

I'm sad I have to still give one star, but it's worth it to let people know. Strictly men only. If you are a woman, or are planning to bring female friends with you, then don't even bother. You should bring your money elsewhere. The Irony of LGBTQ+ friendly being specified in the details. L does not exist here.

Blatant sexism. I was told straight away that none of my females friends were along inside, no reasons, just blatantly told that no women were allowed. My best friend was possibly planting to have a hen night in Manchester so we did a pub crawl around the area to see what it was like. This was the only place that point blankly refused us entry on gender. Shame on you, to be exact - you have no idea what gender my friends even are, or who we are, but but you instantly saw two feminine people and excluded them. I wouldn't ever recommend anyone to go to this old fashioned 90th century mindset club. There are much better places in this area that will try to be inclusive at all times.

I have been visiting Eagle since it first opened (I still own my original membership card) and this place just gets better. I was there over the Pride weekend and had a great time. Excellent music and videos too to help get you in the mood. Some themed nights so you may find something that you are specifically looking for and I love the huge cross section of clientele, you’re bound to be impressed (sometimes literally bound ha ha). There’s always plenty of staff so you don’t have to queue up for very long if it’s busy at the bar and there’s logoed merchandise to buy too. Go along lads, even though the hens in the village can be entertaining it’s great to get away from them from time to time.

The perfect place for someone like me who is only recently out of the closet. Lots of fit men who put me at ease with their experience and firm hands xx

Went to the eagle with a friend first time experience about 5pm Friday 2nd of August 2024,the barman was very unfriendly and rude he was a big guy with beard he did not make us feel wellcome we left as soon we had our drink wound not go again totally ruined it us

By far my favourite bar in The Village, in fact, Manchester. From Weeknight Quizzing to Weekend events that cater to all tastes. The Eagle is one of the best bars/clubs in Manchester. Friendly welcoming door staff, amazing bar and floor staff, great management. Sunday Service, their weekly Cabaret spectacular is definitely not to missed either!

We went to the Eagle for the Manchester Rubber Weekend! Nice location! But what is incomprehensible: Yes, you sweat in rubber. But exactly why the air conditioning is set so cold that tons of visitors are sick after the weekend (9 people and me from my circle of friends/acquaintances alone) defies any logic to me. In the bar upstairs it was sometimes even worse, you would have thought you were standing in a freezer. And something else: An absolute no-go is that guests in the “dark room” area film or photograph others with their cell phones.

Great leather style fetish/cruise bar. upstairs lounge is more conventional cocktail bar. Downstairs is more a fetish style place. Nice first bar, and dancefloor was great at the weekend. Also lots of events and a darkroom to explore too.

Very friendly atmosphere and is a good change of pace from the usual Canal street manchester gay village areas. It can be a bit intimidating at first but once you break through the initial nerves, it can be very fun to visit.

My first time in the bar to see a show. It's Easter Sunday. You would think they would be prepared. This wouldn't be the case. Majority of the beer was unavailable. I decided on 1664 at and excellent price of £4! Later in the night I get another 1664 and was charged over £6+! Only to find out I came during happy hour! I didn't know this and considering they practically had 1664 and a knockoff peroni available...i would of appreciated to still be charged £4 for the inconvenience. The whole place and show is great but just stung and the bar which made it bitter unfortunately.

What's not to love. There is even a quiter bar upstairs. Really enjoyed the variety.

Great little cocktail bar on the back streets of Manchesters Gay village. A great range of quality cocktails at good prices. They offer two for one deals on Thursdays as well as complimentary cheese and crackers 👍🏻🍹🍸🧀❤

Local to Manchester so been many times with friends and visitors to the city. But I lost it last weekend when a group of us were singled out and asked to buy a drink or leave…. I was gonna scream racism as we were a group of black guys but based on other comments, looks like this is some silly unwritten policy they have. If members must buy a drink, charge at the door and give them a token for the bar! Whatevs… Prob never going back there or anywhere else in the village…

Great place for gay men to hang out

Travelled from Liverpool only to find the happy hour is only on limited drinks. And not any drinks I wanted. Bit disappointed.. £6.30 for a pint of NOT Guinness. Going back to Liverpool. Friendlier and cheaper town.

Sunday 11/19/23. Karaoke with bears, I loved it. I’m from Chicago (USA), with my travels it is clear that all eagles are not the same or even affiliated (seemingly, for the most part) BUT the Manchester Eagle was great, nice staff, most BEAUTIFUL pup and staff member, a cherry on top! Met some cute boys from Liverpool and left with them. There is an upstairs that is maybe formal and affiliated but downstairs is pretty chill and bear/eagle vibes. Thanks!

I may have made a mistake as it was late evening so re edit. It is open after being notified by owner. Can't comment on ratings as closed on arrival. Went to rear of building to collect beer coolers so can't say what it's like inside.

Great place. Don't like, stretch or roll your neck or anything. They'll ask you to leave. Its a little weird. I was having a great time until I was told it was time to go. All I did was roll me head to crack it and was told I had to go. I don't actually understand. Maybe someone can explain this for me. I'd barely drunk anything And was having a great time until this.

Excellent venue in all respects but the bouncers were incredibly rude. They informed me that I would be able to smoke outside, so I left a full drink in the entrance. When I tried to get back in, they told me I would have to queue again (30m+) in the pouring rain despite having already done so. Incredibly poor service. Feel free to get in touch to resolve this poor service.

One of the only remaining gay bars in the village. Most of the other formally gay bars are now just gay friendly.

I love The Eagle! I come here every single time i’m in Manchester and always have fun! Don’t understand the low reviews, this is for me the best Eagle bar in the UK!

If I could give this piece of sh#* less than one I would. Went tonight to a quiet bar to be told by some camp queen behind the bar that it was members only. Funny that as I’ve been lots of times on this night before. Obviously the cost of living crisis isn’t affecting this company. Wouldn’t even bother. Only came because the goose was closed anyway. We go in every weekend, the staff are quick and professional, they play a range of music and have different theme nights depending on what you're looking for. A good men-only bar.

Regular punter here. Great venue hosting wide range of gay men's groups in social bar upstairs and two clubrooms downstairs.

Nice vibe, well worth a visit. You have to join as member, but process it very straight forward.

The venue itself is fine it's usually a great atmosphere with friendly people but sadly one of the bar staff is going to ruin it for everyone else. People go out to have a nice evening not to hear bar staff making comments about whether they should be allowed in the venue or not.. Definitely won't bother going there again you've lost my custom and just to let you know people not being able to attend your venue isn't the end of the world 🙂 People like him are the reason Canal Street is failing!

Gay bar in Manchester's Gay Village, set just one road back from Canal Street. I went there for their "Sunday Service" drag show at 4pm on a Sunday. There is plenty of room to move around and ample seating, served by friendly and efficient staff with a good choice of drinks. I had a marvellous time watching Lady Imelda and Belinda Scandal, and the shows change every week which keeps it fresh and fun. I'll definitely be going again. Recommended.

14th October 19:30 got kicked out for "having a woman with us". Literally just walked in, bar worker assumed our friends gender and said we must leave. Management - check CCTV if you don't believe us!

They wouldn’t let anyone in without becoming “members”. When trying to explain we were only visitors the bouncer said “then none of you are allowed in”. I’ve gone to many Eagle Bars in the US. None of them are like this. Fail.

Thus venue is a Jewel in Manchester Gay villages crown, there is always something going on. The door staff are very friendly and always have a laugh and socialise with the customers, which makes you feel very at home in the venue and you can always guarantee that any trouble is stamped out straight away. Everytime I come here there I have not seen any trouble and the atmosphere in the venue is very positive.

An okay bar, they've recently improved the beers on offer (previously it was mainly bland lagers, but their range of spirits has always been fair). Bar staff are generally attentive. I've been coming here since it opened, although I'm no longer a local so I visit infrequently. The last time being a Friday a few weeks ago, where I was out of the blue asked to leave by a bouncer. When I asked why, he said that he didn't know but the bar manager wanted me out. The bouncer was polite and was actually apologetic - I was about to head home anyway, but given this incident it's no longer a venue that I'd intend to make a special trip for.

Great place, a bit away from Gay Village. Security is fine and behaving normally. Bar service very nice. I will definitely come back here for good drinks. All good :)

We’re grateful for discovering The Eagle and its Sunday Service during Corona times. A couple of hours of filthy drag and drinking has quickly become our highlight of the week! It’s probably a little different to how it’s usually hosted, and we’ve only been three times, but we’re looking forward to returning as soon as restrictions are lifted again.

I’m told to leave the venue if I’m not buying a drink despite me telling the guy that I’m waiting for my friends. I walked out. FYI - the venue was dull at 1:00 am on a Friday night. **Edit: I've raised two stars because my friend took me there again and I loved the drag show.
