Having had afternoon tea here several times I felt confident my friend and myself were going to have a pleasant time -however this was not the case I asked if I could move tables as there were some noisy people to our side and the waitress kindly obliged & cleared the next table & we moved. I asked if they did free refills on sandwiches and was told no there is a charge. The waitress also said that management want to charge for extra drinks -like coffee. She said she didn’t agree with that charge but understood extra sandwiches couldn’t be given freely-times were hard was her comment. Our choice of tea was Earl Grey & unfortunately it tasted very much like everyday breakfast tea. I looked at the menu on the table & looked forward to what was on offer for afternoon tea. In the past it had always been good When the food came the younger waitress pointed to the cakes & said these are the cakes, these are sandwiches & these are scones. No explanation on any. Poor I had previously asked for a pot of hot water as I prefer my tea weak -the older of the two waitresses said she would bring a pot. I asked the 2nd waitress again for hot water and eventually had to get up & ask again. 3 times just for a pot of hot water -dreadful The sandwiches were ham, which was lovely, sliced cheese, sliced egg & cucumber with something else 🤷♀️ No one serves sliced cheese for afternoon tea sandwiches it is always grated. There was also a slice of a big unappetising sausage roll. On checking the menu again it said there was supposed to be a brioche bun with coronation chicken & also a bacon leek & cheese quiche. When I pointed this out to the older waitress she took the menu & said we had been given an old menu. The menu was on the table -it had not been given personally to me. My friend pointed out to me afterwards that this was said when we went in October 2023 when things weren’t as they were stated on the menu. We asked for another portion of ham sandwiches and 3 fingers eventually arrived. We couldn’t work out why 3 was a portion when we received 4 finger sandwiches as a portion for the tea. There was a changeover in staff and when we went to pay neither the new waitress nor waiter asked if we’d enjoyed the afternoon tea. This was such poor service and content of sandwiches not good & excuse about an old menu, very poor. I has previously purchased an afternoon tea voucher for a friend’s birthday and after my experience on Friday 8 March I’m wondering if my friend was really as underwhelmed as I felt . I will not be visiting or recommend again. I would be interested in what the management have to say on this matter

More like rock cakes,! This cost my friend £60!! That's not cheap, this was a shambles experience,a real shame for us both,! As we don't do things like this everyday..

Well its been a while since my last visit the The Mounts restaurant and to be fair it was really good. The food was very tasty and slightly off the wall which was a real change; for instance I had the Beef rib, but it came with mini hand made onion barghis an odd combination but you know what really very tasty and very well presented on the plate. The smoked Duck breasts were well cooked and not tough, the cheese board delicious!

Don't believe all the negativity you read about the Mount as it is a wonderful traditional hotel in the modern world that provides an excellent dining experience regardless of where you eat & what you choose. Our experience was extremely good, the staff although mostly very young are very attentive & efficient, the service was extremely good & the afternoon tea was as good as it gets - simply faultless & all 4 of us loved it. We shouldn't really be surprised it was the Mount Hotel after all!

We were welcomed and sat straight away, coats were taken and our mulled wine (part of the deal) was bought overthe staff were quick to take our tea order and get the food out. The food was really nice especially the warm cinnamon and cranberry scones! For the price we were very happy with what we got.... The cracker was an added treat! Booked afternoon festive tea and was so disappointed. Poor selection and the Mary Rose sauce in the prawn cocktail wrap ran out and congealed in the plate resulting in the other sandwiches getting rather soggy. Certainly not worth £23 per head. After a brilliant start to a baby shower this afternoon, beautiful setting and a lovely room, it was somewhat ruined by the attitude of the staff. From the huffing for not moving the glasses quickly enough to set the plates down, to the misunderstanding of what food had been ordered, it put a dampener on a special occasion. Mistakes are easily made but it is how they are dealt with that is important. 4 members of staff then standing at the bar discussing said disagreement with miserable faces is also terrible etiquette. I will be putting my full complaint in writing for response from the manager. Customer service is everything! Disappointing.

The afternoon tea took a little longer than I would expect to come out but this was fine. The quality of all of the food was high. Sandwhichs were fresh and tasty and all of the cakes were tasty and we'll presented. We recently went for Sunday Lunch. The standard of the food was not what you would expect from one of the best hotels in Wolverhampton. The starters were quite small and the main courses were of very low standard. The beef was so tough, you could not cut it with the knives provided. The pork was very fatty which after a mouth full of fat it really turned my stomach. The wait between courses was also unacceptable but the customers having afternoon tea got better service than we did. Definately not worth the £17.99 or £19.19. The hotel seemed to give more attention to the afternoon teas. The majority of the waiting staff were helpful and the Manager was more than happy to help and listened to our complaints. I would not recommend the food at this hotel.

The main course was fantastic, we both had the Piri Piri chicken, it was really tasty and the portion size was great. For dessert I had chocolate brownie and ice cream. My friend had apple crumble and custard. The brownie was not presented well at all, a slab of brownie with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, like you would present at home. The apple crumble wasn’t cooked well, the apple hadn’t been chopped up enough so it was just lumps of half cooked apple with crumble on top! My friend mentioned it to the waiter & he said he would tell the chef but nothing came of it. We had spent over £60 there, so would have been nice to have had a reply to our comments.

Well, we had afternoon tea here (did not stay). While the food was delicious and does warrant full marks, the crockery was more likened to a transport cafe, (not that that’s a put down for the wonderful cafes) It is certainly not to be expected at the wonderful and gracious Mount. Please can we have bone China, fine tea, (albeit from a glass teapot) warrants fine china, (teapot included) not a great fat cup you can barely get your mouth around.

We ate in the bar, from the bar menu. The fish and chips and pork ribs were very tasty with sensible portion sizes and reasonably priced. After that, we felt like something sweet. There wasn't anything on the bar menu, so ordered 2 puddings from the restaurant menu. Rather expensive, very pretty, but very disappointing. The panna cotta was a tiny piece of a rather solid mousse with no flavour, decorated with a couple of squares of raspberry jelly, a few tiny blobs of (lemon?) sauce and some very dried up chocolate and hazenut 'soil'. My husband's lemon tart was of similar, dried up quality. I was also rather taken aback when, after asking me whether everything was OK and me saying no, the puddings were not very nice, the waiter said 'Oh dear' or words to that effect and went away again.

So eight of us book a nice meal out together four times a year, we chose the Mount Hotel for our Christmas bash but although we tried to enjoy our night unfortunately found the Restaurant Manager/ Head Waitress in a particularly bad mood from start to finish. She gave a menu to 4 of us to start before we were seated in the restaurant but at that point there were no smiles or pleasantries, the rest of our group came so we were seated in the restaurant, again it was quite obvious the lady didn't want to be there and no additional menus were forthcoming for the other 4. When ordering one of our group asked to swap the Gnocchi for a cheaper Salmon. The lady went to chef and came back and said it was ok but there would need to be an extra charge. At this point we thought why? as it should be cheaper as a Salmon dish but the lady said the chef had told her to increase the price. strange the chef telling her what to do but there it was. I asked where the other menus were that we were promised by email to give my friend alternative options for her dietary needs and was told four times that there was no other menu, finally when asked what about the bar menu she changed her tack and said yes we have one of those but at this point my friend and probably most of the table and given up the will to argue so my friend said she would just have the cheaper option Salmon. In fair ness the meal was reasonable, the soup was filling with a lovely warmed fruity roll, the other starters were very tasty albeit very small. The main courses were all reasonable with the Turkey being a good size with the steaks being okay but with not many cooked chips. The deserts were particularly small for the price and in honesty took all but two mouthfuls to complete, that said the taste of the deserts and particularly the fruit showed they use good quality ingredients. There were long waits for coffee and throughout the lady who seemed to be in charge but would take the advice of chef for an increase in price was not of the happy type who loved her job but more like "why am i here and why should i have to be pleasant to people paying £288 for there dinner, because it is Saturday and really I don't care or want to be here?" I suppose she did take our photo but as we retreated to the lounge for our coffee we caught her discussing her bad night with us to one of her friends who was also eating at the restaurant. All told, reasonable food, small portions but one very aggressive and totally hostile head waitress/restaurant manager.

We went to Christmas works party on 3rd December 2016. I found my meal to very unappetising and overpriced. I had the vegetarian meal which was supposed to be a ‘Goats Cheese & Vegetable Tart’ what I had was a ‘filo pastry parcel, filled with onions!’ if this had ever seen Goats Cheese (which I very much doubt) it was shown the packet and taken away!! The Turkey meals were bought out first and then the roast potatoes and vegetables, the Salmon and Vegetarian meals were then bought out but all the vegetables had gone by then. We asked the waitress for more potatoes and vegetables which she went to fetch, she came back very embarrassed to tell us we could not have any more until all main meals were taken out!!! This meant that the food on our plate was COLD before we had vegetables to accompany it!!!! The room was very cramped and I admire how well the waiting staff coped with serving in between such cramped rows the whole area was very very claustrophobic. Our party consisted of two long tables which were separated by a row between us, very bad planning as we were separated from colleagues and friends. To say it was a Christmas Do it did not feel very Christmassy, there was only a pathetic Christmas tree just inside the door and no other decorations in the room. With the amount of people squashed in the room meant you had to get really chummy on the dance floor, and although the lights were dimmed on the dance floor the rest of the room was bathed in bright lights more appropriate for a conference than to add to the ambience of a party. I also did not appreciate another party giving out awards to their staff in a mixed group of parties, if they had wanted to do this they should have had a private function! Finally the Ladies powder room was dirty and had a very strong smell of fish which everyone was commenting on. I have been to the Mount Hotel on several occasions and cannot believe how standards have slipped. I paid £35.00 for a bit of filo pastry filled with onions, carrots, sprouts & roast potatoes all of which were cold and will think very strongly before I return to this establishment and will definitely not be recommending in to anyone.Maureen Johnson

Over the years we have noticed this once proud establishment sink slowly to its knees, To conclude, noisy, in need of refurbishment, in dire need of staff training and menu updating. Needless to say we will not be returning any time soon, how sad!

Four of us paid £340 plus drinks for dinner on Christmas day and it was the worst service we have had anywhere. When our starter came no bread rolls were offered but later on diners were offered rolls .The turkey came covered in gravy not served in a gravy boat, most people want different amounts or no gravy.Dessert was supposed to be with a Brandy Snap Basket with Brandy Ice Cream it was a plain brandy snap and ice cream which had been on the plate a long time and melted to a runny mess. The Cheesecake was served without cream but again we saw cream being served with it later on.When the cheese course came it was dropped on the table without a word by a very unpleasant waitress. The coffee and chocolates turned out to be coffee and mince pies which were small horrrible miss shaped ones which no supermarket would have sold. The staff seemed to be running round not knowing what to do and not providing the service you expect for £85 a head paid in advance. We paid £40 deposit and the balance was asked for two weeks before Christmas my advice to anyone is not to pay for your meal in advance as the deposit is what our meal was worth. We had friends who came from Hampshire for this meal and I was ashamed of it . We had booked a table for 11 people on Christmas Day as we had been there 2 years prior and had a lovely time! On arrival we were told to sit in the room which was packed out with far too many tables. The waitress asked for our orders even though they had previously been emailed over. We had to wait an hour before our starters arrived and had not once been asked if we would like a drink. So when we went to the bar to get a drink at the bar there was no one to be seen. Our starters all came out at different times so we did not all eat together. We then waited around half an hour for our plates to be collected. It seemed as though staff did not have a clue what they were doing and were asking which table was which. Glasses were not collected so we were having to clear the table up ourselves to have enough space to eat. It was apparent that other tables were experiencing the same issues. We left before finishing our courses as we were so fed up of waiting. Overall a disappointing experience and we will not be returning!

we went to celebrate my sister-in-laws 60th birthday on a saturday night. There was on 4 of us, and we outnumbered the rest of the diner, to say it was quiet would be an understatement.Meals ordered, the first course came out and was duly dispatched. Then after a short while, the mains came....for three of us.....after about 5 minutes, my wife finally came. There were no other function on so we did not understand the delay....Main eaten and desserts ordered. I ordered the cheese course with the promise of 'homemade biscuits.' Three desserts came out....and then after about 5 mins, my cheese course came out, the simplest dish with hardly any prep required..the homemade biscuit even had 'Jacobs' stamped in them!!!!!Would we go back to eat, no, this is the second time we have eaten there and both times have been disappointing.

I had afternoon tea at this venue last year and left an excellent five-star review. However my return this year was a complete disappointment.I took my mum for Mother's Day on the Monday afternoon hoping it would be nice and quiet. I made sure my baby was sleeping quietly! Others did not show the same courtesy- from the moment we arrived at 12:30 to when we left at 2 o'clock, another visitor was on his mobile phone and laptop having a business conference at the top of his voice. We spent a considerable amount of money on afternoon tea; he bought one coffee in the whole duration of his visit. We could not hear one another speak; it completely ruined the afternoon. We spoke to the waitress several times and she kept apologising and saying that it was awful and she was really sorry. She agreed that this was entirely ruining the afternoon. He walked around and around and around making sure that no one else could enjoy themselves or have a conversation for an hour and half. Eventually we decided to leave and told them that we would be leaving because we simply could not hear ourselves think. They did take a complementary 10% off the bill, but I left feeling completely ripped off as I had not had an afternoon tea, had not enjoyed myself, and priority was given to someone who was buying one cup of coffee. Would not bother again, which is a shame as we have afternoon tea fairly often at different locations around the Midlands. Gutted.

My fiancé and I are currently looking at options for our big day so for Mother's Day we decided to book sunday lunch and to enquire about the wedding package at the same time. My fiance is from London and I'm proud to be from Wolverhampton, and The Mount was one of a few options for us, therefore I wanted him to be impressed. Prior to our lunch, the wedding co-ordinator called to say that we were being seated in the Great Hall and then we could have a chat and walk round afterwards. All that I can say on the day is, what a massive disappointment. We initially went to the main bar to get a drink and were told to use the other bar which was for 'The Great Hall'. This bar however had a queue and the fire was so hot we decided to just get seated (whilst we were clearly in the way of the waitresses serving food because there is only one door for everything – and the kitchen is very poorly positioned) - my poor 86 year old granddad who can hardly walk!)We were shown to our seats quite quickly, probably because we were in the way, but this was where the 'service' ended. After about 15 miniutes my fiance and I had to take it upon ourselves to get our own drinks, we were then told to use the other bar again! All that we wanted was a drink, no fuss no frills, just to pay for a round of drinks please! The bar lady could clearly see I wasn’t impressed and in the end gave in and served us, we also had to carry the tray back to our table!…… Back at our seats it took the waitress a long time to take our food order, we actually had to get their attention in the end. The main course came quickly enough but the desert took well over half an hour, I was almost getting up to ask for the bill when it finally arrived…... I didn't want to make much of a fuss either, because it was mother’s day, and I wanted my mom to have a nice lunch but even she started to wonder if they'd forgotton about us. The room is stunning but needs work done now, the carpet is really old and the sun beams through and you could tell everyone was really uncomfortable - my fiance couldn't wait to leave as it was so hot. I could even hear other tables complaining about the slow (non-existant) service and heat. In the end we asked to have our coffee/ tea in the bar area but no one seated us/ asked if we were ok/ came to serve us. In the end I decided enough was enough and get the bill which was a mission in itself because the staff couldn’t figure out what was what. This was finally when we were asked if we'd had a nice meal, my dad in a nice enough way said that the service was slow and all that she could say was 'oh'! I know it’s mother’s day and its busy but the basics of service/attention was missing and the fact we were not once asked about our wedding enquiry (which I found very rude) I should be gratful, because even though the £160 bill I painfully paid for, this could have been at £10,000 - £15,000 wedding bill! What a close shave.
