The Cuan in Down

I've been excited to try the restaurant since I heard it was under new management and it did not disappoint. The interiors are beautiful with a relaxing bar and dining area that looks like something from a classic NYC Hotel. The menu is varied from standard pub favourites to bistro style food to choose from. When I arrived I advised I had a gluten allergy and was talked through the menu (there was very little I couldn't eat) and asked to fill out an allergy card which ensures all staff knew I required a gluten free meal. For starter I had smoked salmon and fresh fennel with a delicious piece of gluten free wheaten bread and I had chicken for main. My partner had squid for starter and a burger for main. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal.Will definitely be back when next in Strangford

Had a superb overnight stay at The Cuan. Hotel has been transformed inside and they have done a really great job. Lovely welcome when we arrived and shown to our room. Room was lovely and felt like we were the first guests. Breakfast was outstanding and once again served by extremely pleasant and friendly staff. Couldn’t find fault and will be back.

The refurbishment is great, place looks amazing. Have to say a bit disappointed with the front of house staff. We had booked at the start of May for Saturday night dinner. On arrival we had a drink outside and requested to see a menu, went and asked again for a menu and got one but it was time to go inside then anyway. Walked through the front door and stood with staff looking at us as if we were lost, said we had a booking and the member of staff looked around the room as if looking for a free table. Once she seen one I was asked if this will do? Being treated like a walk-in is not good. I asked if we could sit in the actual restaurant section, in the other room as there are two seats free, I was told they are booked? As I could see these seats when I went to the bathroom, they were never filled all night. Drinks had to be chased, food orders wrong, no recompense, there are actually so many things to write about here that I can't be bothered. Disappointed.

It has been a while since we last were here. Really liked the layout changes. The food was fantastic, the crispy prawns were as good a starter as I have ever had. The lamb main was perfect. As for the staff, service was faultless, very friendly, attentive and really made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back.

We stayed overnight and had dinner. Our room was excellent. A comfortable large 6ft double bed, and bathroom with very modern walk in shower - everything spotless. Bathrobes and slippers were provided, as were nice toiletries.Dinner in the restaurant with drinks before in the bar was a friendly and enjoyable experience.The dinner menu offered good choices which included fish, meat and a suitable choice for vegetarians/vegans.As fish depends on the catch of the day - we chose for our main course the hake, crusted with a tasty melange, and there was also "brandade" with it, which was excellent. Prior to the main course we had some super smoked salmon, prawns and a salad with apple and fennel which was very fresh. The chef in the kitchen is obviously very competent!!Breakfast - again in the restaurant with it's central high domed glass ceiling offered an irresistible menu. Full Irish for sure - but Eggs Benedict, kippers, smoked salmon etc. Nice touches were fresh fruit, granola with a fruit compote and some viennoisserie.Throughout we were made very welcome by all staff in all parts of The Cuan. It's a great place!

First time in the renovated Cuan. The bar restaurant is both highly designed and inviting. The meal was 5 star: prawns, ribeye and creme brûlée all excellent. Big Thanks to Bernie, Cathy, Ryan and Callum for their professional, friendly and attentive service. A visit is to the Cuan is highly recommended

The Cuan was the only place to eat, that night, but it delivered quality, choice and good service.I had a brilliant seafood chowder, my wife a lovely smoked salmon fennel concoction. Good flavours, good quality food.Service good, wine excellent. Good atmosphere generally, just post Covid restrictions.Would definitely return.

A busy day for the Cuan, but staff were delightful and helpful. We arrived just after two off the ferry on a family day out. Looking for food, we approached the Cuan and unfortunately they were at capacity for food given the wonderful day. The girl was polite and professional and told us that if we got a table we would be ok for drinks via the table service. With two hungry kids in tow I enquired (cheekily) that since they were at capacity for gods could I order chips and eat them at my table so long as I had some drinks. The girl agreed that it was ok given the circumstances. In the course of our stay we sat in the sun and had two rounds of drinks. With a happy wife and two lads we departed for home, but we will be back with the hope we can sample the menu (which looks fab) next time. See you in a few weeks.

The new look Cuan is gorgeous down to every last detail, I loved the colours, the space, everything! The food was fab too, the chowder is a knockout as was the panacotta. My husband had the steak which is said was great. We had the house Italian red which was beautiful. The staff were working so hard and were very attentive, however it was the great welcome we got from the fabulous Michael that made us feel special, he really is a treasure. Can’t wait to go back and take all the family, brilliant addition to the great eateries we have in the Strangford area.

The place is stunning . The decor was on a par with any 5 star hotels in the greater Belfast area. We had a few starters The food is very affordable. I felt the Squid was a little salty but I cleared the plate. Staff:- Deloras Kerr could run any restaurant single handed. The woman is doing 2 jobs and so friendly. Lovely young lad introduced himself to my wif and I. Very sociable. they shone for us!

Just stopped on the off chance for for lunch and had an amazing meal, fresh fish, fresh prawns, succulent Dexter beef burger.....all delivered by friendly professional staff. Thank you

We've just come back from having a delicious lunch at the Cuan. Great starters - the scallops were beautiful in taste and presentation, and the butterflied chicken was lush. Ribeye steak, chips and pepper sauce were superb, as was the crab linguine. All served on hot plates, al fresco. Service was great. Certainly a very welcome treat out of lockdown!

Had a lovely meal with very good staff serving who made us feel welcome. Heaters take the edge off the cold but it is a good idea to bring a blanket. Food served piping hot and very tasty.

Today was our first return to ‘restaurant dining’ after 8 months, and what an amazing lunch it was! I won’t lie that we were outdoors under the canopy and it was cold, and we even had hailstones at one point; but the overhead heaters on the outdoor terrace, and the warm friendly welcome from all the staff soon had us forgetting how cold it was.I had the chowder to start, followed by the best crab linguini I have ever eaten.. then Raspberry creme Brûlée for dessert. All three courses were delicious. All washed down with a very nice bottle of French Sauvignon Blanc.The refurbishment of the Cuan is fantastic - so we can’t wait to return and dine indoors… and likewise, the food was just fabulous. Thank you to the chef and all the staff for a very memorable and wonderful lunch… we will be back… and DON’T ever take that crab linguini off the menu!!

Wonderful service from start to finish....very warmly greeted by Rick and Michael and indeed all the staff were very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed a few nibbles before dinner....the goats cheese and Olivia bites are delicious....a beautifully cooked chicken for main and followed by the most delicious creme brûlée shared with my husband....all the staff are very attentive and nothing was too much trouble even are inability to choose from the menu as it all sounded delicious....our children too said the pizzas were very tasty. Would highly recommend and we will most definitely be back....

We came for lunch on Saturday 1st. Cannot fault anything. Literally. The service as welcoming and friendly, nothing too much trouble. We had a few of the snacks before lunch and they were all lovely, the crispy olives in particular. Our lunch was superb. Rick and Michael are great hosts, mind you the rest of the staff are also great! 10 or if 10 for us! Booked to go back already.

Beside the main restaurant, they have a takeaway. The board outside had a sign saying delicious bacon butty. So was tempted. HAve to say was not disappointed. BAcon well cooked and presented. The cup of tea with it was warm and as requested. When I took the lid off the cup was not full. All that let them down.

Sad it has come to what was a really exciting era under Peter and Caroline's stewardship.....lets hope the new owners keep the atmosphere, keep the staff, keep the craic and more important keep some of the well tried and trusted menu items. Michael Drak.

A big thanks to Caroline and her fantastic team for looking after our group of TVR car enthusiasts for Saturday lunch at The Cuan. Everyone of our large group thoroughly enjoyed their food and commented on how efficient and friendly the staff were. Thanks so much for helping us to organise our visit.

My husband and I stayed here last night as we were attending a 50 th Birthday Party in the village and we would like to say a big Thankyou to Peter and Caroline for looking after us so well .. We were treated royally at the Bar and our room was amazing and so cosy and warm on a very stormy night . Breakfast was delicious and Sean and all the Staff were so attentive and always with a smile . We would highly recommend this wonderful establishment and looking forward to a return visit very soon ..

We visited The Cuan for the Game of Thrones banquet meal. The location was easy to find with plenty of parking on the street and around the area. From start to finish the experience was phenomenal. Peter and his team made us feel like we were a part of their family. The atmosphere for the banquet meal was top notch. We can’t get over how good the food was. Everything tasted fantastic and the presentation was true to the Game of Thrones experience. We will definitely be back!

The people in this place were SO sweet!! We stopped in to eat lunch and see the first Game of Thrones door. The waitress offered a book of the owner's photos taken during filming AND I got to take a pic with a robe! I was in Heaven!! The food was also delicious!!!

We came here as we heard it was a famous spot for the Game of Thrones actors to eat and stay at. The staff here was wonderful and allowed us to see the banquet room, Game of Thrones door, as well as some pictures of the cast they had. Along with the outstanding service, the food was wonderful!

Excellent fish and chips! Good variety of beers on tap (Hodoor from Mourne Mountains brewery went great with the fish and chips), and they have one of the doors carved with Game of Thrones scenes (pick up a passport and have them stamp it) created from the wood of fallen trees from the dark hedges.

Lovely restaurant. Very family friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Very comfortable and homely feel to the place and the food was excellent. Definitely would go back again.

Wishing to escape 'cabin fever' after Xmas we wanted to visit from Dublin somewhere close, but far away, with a warm atmosphere, good food and entertaining. Impossible ? No ! The Cuan exceeded our expectations under all categories.Strangford is a beautiful village that many people only drive through and fail to stop and sample the overall hospitality and local amenities. The Cuan's location in the centre of the village removes the need for the car for a day or two. When you have finished exploring the village take the ferry to Portaferry and start again !The Cuan is a village restaurant / bar and hotel with very high standards, and equally high delivery. Comfortable rooms, with lovely food and seeking anything different / extra is no bother (within reason). And this is what makes the Cuan different - the staff and service. They clearly love their work and it is evident is the delivery. Find-out for yourself ...

We went for a coffee after a gorgeous long walk with the doggies. We decided to go to the Cuan as it had been previously recommended on here as dog friendly. Sadly this is not the case as we were told that dogs are not permitted when food is served, and even then only at one table in the bar. We write this only to make others aware, not to dissuade anyone from going. We went to Fodder instead, which is dog friendly.

Came to the Cuan Inn last week (my 70th birthday present from my husband). It was amazing as usual, food exceptional, staff brilliant. On Thursday morning when we came down for breakfast Dale and Caroline gave me a birthday card and sang Happy Birthday!!!! Thank you all xxxxx

Peter is as warm and welcoming as they come, he is a master of hospitality! Nothing was too much to ask for.

We stayed at the Cuan after my husband had read about their Game of Thrones banquet dinner. We had planned a trip to the UK with our friends who were visiting from Australia, and as we were all fans of the show, we thought it would be fun to "geek out" a bit and share this experience. It was so great!

We stayed here for two comfortable nights in Caetlyn Starks room! Warm and welcoming. We enjoyed eating at the Cuban both evenings and enjoyed the chowder, beef and burgers. Good breakfasts with the best wheaten bread ever . Really helpful and friendly staff, a really pleasant stay and Castle Ward is just up the road!

Called in a group of biking mates for a bite after a Kirkistown track day. The sea food chowder, with Wheaten bread was first class.

We ate here for lunch on our Game of Thrones tour. They were able to handle our large group very efficiently. The food was good, and the service was friendly, even with our large group of people.

We visited for a few drinks and to see the game of thrones doors. Great pub and recommend the Hodoor beer. Really impressed with door one!

We had lunch at the Cuan as part of our Game of Thrones Winterfell tour. The dining room was cozy and the food was good (we had the lasagna) and the proprietor, Peter, came and personally greeted each guest (all 20 of us). He spent some time at our table telling us about how the production of Game of Thrones had (positively) impacted the area. We appreciated Peter's time, it made the whole experience much more personable.

We called on passing as per previous phone call we were advised booking was not required. We got a table promptly. The staff, mature ladies were friendly and civil, and even provided me with cod and chips etc, which was not on the menu. The others all got the haddock.Service was good, all dishes were presentable and tasty, however the price was somewhat expensive for 4 dishes that were basic dishes. Two of our party were over visiting from Canada, they were not overly impressed, I think the trip on the mini ferry perhaps saved the day.

We came over from Isle of Man on a grey day. We were hungry so came straight to the Cuan as we have been well-fed here previously. Right up to our expectations, if anything even better than before. Prompt, friendly service, our beautifully cooked meals arrived in good time. Even our normally reticent crew member commented her meal was delicious, praise indeed! The usual welcoming atmosphere is still there, if anything slightly improved as we were earlier than our normal time so the restaurant was still only filling up. It all set us up nicely for a stroll around the coast path overlooking Audley's Roads and Castle Ward.

Had the most enjoyable weekend did the GOT tour and stayed in The Cuan jon snow's room. Had a great chat with Peter the owner. Enjoyed a delicious meal and Breakfast served by Coleman the loveliest Gentleman made us laugh all through Breakfast.

I booked a night as part of the game of thrones package as a surprise getaway for my husbands birthday, and I honestly can’t recommend the Cuan enough. On arrival, clearly unsure of the area, one of the staff offered to open up the back entrance to help us get our son’s pram in and to show us where to park our rental car. We spent an hour getting packed and ready and then eagerly arrived for our banquet. The theming and introduction from the knowledgeable staff was perfect-just enough without being over the top. They were super pleasant, accommodating of our 1 year old and eager to make my husband’s birthday special-even putting a candle in his pudding. The lentil pie was delicious and we were stuffed by the end. We stayed in the Cersei room, it was cosy and clean and exactly right for a family of three. Breakfast was a delight. The pancakes were unbelievable, my husband had scrambled eggs which he loved and our one year old had plenty of choice. From start to finish, the staff were a joy and we felt so welcomed . Would go back in a heart beat. Thank you for making our time there such an experience!

Myself and my 2 sisters stopped here with a group off one of the game of thrones tours . We had pre booked out lunch on a very bumpy and rocky bus journey so it was hard to mark the exact box for the item we wanted. Anyway when we arrived my sister asked for what she thought she had ordered and we began eating as we started a young girl came put of the kitchen and shouted out loud who was p ( my sister) . My sister put up her hand. The girl continued to speak out loud over people and asked her did she not order something else . My sister was so embarrassed and said she was sorry it was a mistake marking the order on the bus . Then the girl said aloud again but you did order this didn't you. My sister replyed again sorry it was a mistake . At this point everyone on the tour was looking over at our table . My other sister followed the girl out to the bar and said to her that it was not very nice the way she handled that in front of everyone and that we were so embarrassed. We couldn't even eat our food after this so we payed ( we shouldn't have because none of it was eaten) and left . So disappointing. Would not recommend. Bring a packed lunch . Or go across the road to the lobster pot very welcoming and lovely food.

We first visited here 18 months ago on a Game of Thrones tour and were back in Belfast for our third visit to the city. On our last day we had some time to kill so rented a car to go back to Strangford. The Cian was the first stop on our list after having amazing food last time - they did not disappoint!

We returned to The Cuan on our annual trip to the area and, once again, all plates were empty at the end of the meal. Smoked Haddock was my choice this time and it was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a delicious sauce, champ and vegetables. My husband is a lasagne connoisseur and he enjoyed every morsel, as well as the accompanying pasta salad and crispy chips. My mum-in-law chose the chowder and was not disappointed.

We stopped here on st. Patrick's day with an organized tour of the game of thrones. Fast and friendly service but the food is nothing special. No chance to have an espresso.

We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the Game of Thrones dinner and breakfast as well as a regular breakfast. The staff were warm and welcoming, the accommodations were lovely and comfortable and the food was delicious. AND we stayed in the same room that Lena Heady stayed in while filming the first season! The town of Stangford is absolutely gorgeous.

Stopped in from our auto tour of the northwest with my wife, son and daughter in law for a coffee and a light desert. Firstly, we just wanted a coffee and we shared two deserts. No problem! The staff, from the manager to our server were very friendly and accommodating. Our deserts were absolutely delicious, so I can only imagine how good the other food is. As well, the restaurant is spotless including the washrooms. Highly recommend!

This was our first visit to The Cuan but it definitely won't be our last .

We were blown away by the service, food and overall experience we had here: we stayed the one night and had the Game of Thrones Banquet for 2. What an amazing idea they had to recreate some of the recipes straight out of the books!! 100% recommended for not only fans of GOT but for anyone looking for great food and service.

We visited this restaurant while on a Hame of Thrones tour. It was outstanding. We had the chicken and mussels. We also tried the Hodoor beer and Mead wine, also delicious!

No jumbo prawns available apparently . If I had known I wouldn’t have ordered the scampi.Expensive for what I got.

I used to love this place. The food is always great, and it wasn't unusual to receive a welcome that made you feel like a long-lost-friend or even family member! But the last couple of visits have been a major disappointment. On the most recent visit, even on a quiet weekday lunchtime with the place half-empty, the service was so slow that we started to feel invisible. Drinks (tonic water) were brought without ice or lemon (Usually we would be asked).

Visited The Cuan during the lunch break of out GoT tour. It was a warm and friendly place to visit which boasts the 1st commissioned door from the fallen 'dark hedges'. For lunch I had the roasted chicken with champ and pepper sauce which was delicious. There was plenty to choose from menu wise and the price was reasonable

Our tour stopped to eat at the Cuan and we had delicious roasted chicken with fresh carrots that tasted they were picked from the local garden. I enjoyed looking at the photographs of the history of the town. There was also a special door the Game of Thrones group donated because the cast liked to eat there after shooting.

We throughly enjoyed the welcome we received at the Cuan. The place was very busy with I believe a couple of Game of Thrones tour bus groups. Sean saw that we were waiting for a group to pay and leave and immediately took care of us. The food was good. 3 of us had the roast beef and one the scampi. Sean was very attentive, helpful and fun.

My sister had always wanted to visit here and has asked me to write this review for her because she was so disappointed with the service and food. Drinks were slammed down on table by a girl with no personality or manners! Food was disgusting. Scampi tasted like a bag of Young's. Hake was tasteless and mash was watery. She says she will never be back!

We stopped off at here during our Game of Thrones tour. Excellent food, friendly service and very clean. Would eat here again.

We really ejoyed our langostinos and the creamy crab claws were rich and delicious. The restaurant/hotel owner came by to check on us and was a wonderful host!

My wife and I paid an unplanned visit here on a Sunday lunchtime. Restaurant was busy but they were able to find a table for two and how glad we were. My wife had the scampi and I had the langoustine (from the specials menu). Both were tremendous - fresh, amazingly well cooked and very generous portions. This really is a brilliant, unpretentious bar/restaurant in a lovely location. The Game of Thrones connection and artifacts was also a draw for my GOT obsessed wife!

Went on busy Sunday evening. Staff were wonderfully accommodating for such a busy evening. However the food was lacking. Slightly disappointed with both meals as neither were particularly flavoursome.

We popped in here to check out the famous doors - they are very special and the bar staff gave the story about how they were made and that there are more in a variety of other locations to be seen (encouraging tourism )

Stayed 2 nights last week. Room very good as usual. Staff and food amazing. My husband has dietry requirements and they were met with no problem. Colman is a real gem, at 86 he still works!! See you in June. Booked for our wedding anniversary. My husband has no clue. Lol

This place is tucked away in a quite little town and it is truly a hidden gem. Not many people know but this is a MUST SEE for anyone who is a Game of Thrones fan. They have the 1 out of 10 GOT doors hidden throughout Northern Ireland. They were actually the first to get a door. Also during filming scenes at Winterfell (Castleward) this is were the cast stayed. We stayed in room 10 which is where Catelyn Stark stayed. Also, the food is amazing!!

Have been visiting this Strangford “institution “ for years and have always been greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Peter, Caroline and their staff are professionals who genuinely want you to enjoy their hospitality.

called ahead to check that they were ok with dogs , and they were . we were warmly welcomed in, with a bowl of water waiting under our table for lola . the menu is extensive and our selections were top notch , the scampi in breadcrumbs was excellent as was my wagyu beef burger both came with chips and the tartar sauce accompanying the scampi was the best ive ever tasted .the service was exceptional as was the guinness i look forward to returning to sample more of the seafood items on the menu as given the location on the shore of strangford lough it should be amazing .Other dog friendly hotels/restaraunts we have visited we have had to go looking for staff to get a menu let alone order a drink ,today we had a table in the bar and were treated extremely well . the atmosphere was warm relaxed and welcoming staff were attentive and friendly . i would highly recomend the cuan and we look forward to trying out the accomodation as that is also dog friendly

What a lovely place! Celebrating nothing in particular other than being with good friends and family. but we were made to feel so welcome by everyone from the chef to the barstaff and everyone in-between. Meal was delicious, freshly made and plentiful.

The Cuan has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff seem to know the regulars by their first name. The food was delicious and well priced. Overall we had a very pleasant experience and would go back

Always great food here with friendly knowledgeable staff. Nothing is too much bother. And the Game of Thrones door......well that's just a bonus!

Called in with family when in passing..... Despite is being after 10 am staff said we could have breakfast and were welcomed warmly. Mum, dad and our three young children were shown to a large table and staff were friendly and great with the children.

We were staying at the cuan for one night as we were over for a family funeral. We love the cuan, my granny was a Sharvin & used to run the cuan back in the day. It was only my second time here, last time was 15 years ago for my granny’s 80th.

On a glorious day where the sun sparkles on strangford lough and the ferry glides effortlessly from one side to the other, we check in early. The owners and staff are all lovely. Welcoming, warm and enthusiastic. Nothing is a bother or too much. We have our lunch and go for a walk and when we come back we are shown to our room, overlooking the square. The atmosphere is that of peaceful tranquility despite the constant stream of people through the square. The room is spotless and tastefully decorated. With tea and coffee facilities - no biccies though☹️. Dinner was lovely the steak was cooked to perfection. The bed was so comfortable. I felt really rested.

Great location and the food is delicious. Seafood chowder was amazing with loads of fresh fish. Would really like to visit again and stay

We has spent 3 hours walking around the beautiful grounds of Castle Ward and were very glad to stop for refreshment at The Cuan. Very pleasant bar/restaurant with an open fire.

Sometimes you go somewhere and are just blown away by the outstanding hospitality of the staff not to mention the food. My husband is still raving about the burger this morning. 4 of us had dinner there last night. The friendliness of every member of staff was truly amazing. Three burgers and a beef stroganoff and 3 beautiful desserts. I didn't fancy a dessert so I ordered a coffee. I was asked would I like a little mince pie with the coffee, no charge! Seriously recommend going here if you happen across this gorgeous village.

Peter and Caroline always make us feel so welcome and the Christmas meal which we had at the Cuan recently was delicious! We have been here many times and always come away satisfied. Thanks Peter and Caroline.

Forty of our walking group had a wonderful Christmas Lunch after our walk. There was a great choice in an imaginative menu. We were able to supply our choices a week before hand so the service was very swift from very friendly and helpful staff. Most important of all the food was delicious and very attractively presented. All our members were very complimentary about the food.. Some have indicated that they will bring their friends back. The Restaurant was very understanding when three members who booked were unable to attend due to illness and they did not charge for them. Altogether a great experience.

Just came back from an overnight stay for dinner,bed and breakfast. Very friendly helpful staff to make your stay special. Some of the best food around. Nice to have a freshly cooked breakfast instead of the buffet type breakfast so often served in so called 5star establishments

We arrived after a day of visiting Winterfell (Castle Ward, just down the road) and were shown to our lovely room, which Maisie Williams stayed in during filming GoT seasons 1 and 2. The GoT banquet was amazing. The food was lovely and we pretty much had the room to ourselves - such a unique experience. Even one of the staff members got up during his dinner to go and get us some swords to make it even more magical - such a lovely thing to do. We tried the Hodoor beer and Lannister mead, which were both really good - I believe its the only place you can get it too. Of course we brought some home with us! If you are interested in the 'Journey of Doors' then you can see a beautiful one here which we admired after dinner, whilst having a few more Hodoor beers and chatting to the friendly locals. There are loads of interesting stories and memorabilia hidden around for you to look at, including BTS photos that the family took during filming in Winterfell Season 1 & 2 - Look out for Joffery's hair lol. Breakfast was made for us especially early at our request as we had a busy day ahead. Again, we had the room pretty much to ourselves and the breakfast was awesome - the attention to detail was on point! The staff were so attentive and welcoming throughout our stay - a truly unforgettable experience, thank you!

Went out for a family dinner which was well proportioned. Food was lovely spent a lot of money on my day out here . The reason I'm saying this is . Charged me for a shortbread biscuit.. ""really""" . It's not the money it's the principle . After spending a lot for the dinner .. Will i be back probably.. C'mon Cuan dont be silly and charging for a (very small bit of shortbread) trivial but principality kicks in here .. you make enough money .

During my time in NI, I wanted to do the 'Journey of Doors' to see all of the intricately carved Game of Thrones doors. The Cuan is the home to door #1. We were meeting friends in Strangford and took a quick detour to see the door. The barmen was incredibly welcoming and the dining area has whole area set up were you can have a themed meal, complete with cloaks, swords, and house banners.

We visited Strangford during our holidays and had a really nice dinner at ‚Cuans‘. It’s very child friendly in there and we saw you can book a special table in ‚Game of Thrones‘ style.

We stayed in the area in an Air BNB but came here for our breakfasts. Both times we were after their serving cut off at 10am but they still cooked for us. The pancakes and sourdough toast are epic. We didn't know about the doors before we came to Ireland, so was lovely to see these and we also geeked out having the cloaks on and played at their staged table. The staff were brilliant and loved to chat about the area.

Arrived here as a 2nd choice as restaurant we normally go to was closed for renovations. Discovered a gem and will be back. Lovely food well presented.Best desserts we have had in a long time.Good variety on the menu.Very good service.Reasonably priced

We came here upon recommendation from the people at Castle Ward, who told us there is a GoT door, created from the Dark Hedges. Since we were not hungry, we had a drink each at the bar. It wasn't very far at all from Castle Ward and street parking was easy.

We ate lunch here during our Game of Thrones tour. Food was fresh, staff very friendly, and in a nice location. There are costumes and a Game of Thrones door available for viewing. Very nice!

Called in here with some family recently for our dinner

The Cuan restaurant was recommended to us down in Castleward but we were a little underwhelmed by both the service and food. We sat in the bar as the restaurant was full. We had chowder which was good but had only fish absolutely no seafood, no mussels, prawns etc. The brown bread had pumpkin seeds in it and as I am allergic I had to ask to confirm their presence but no alternative was offered. Also I felt one piece of bread for a chowder main course was a little stingy. My family had mussels which were good, crab risotto also good, lasagne which was ok and chips and chicken chunks which were pronounced ok by the expert! The Guinness was good but we didn’t stay for desserts. Prices were probably a little higher than average.

Stayed at the Cuan whilst visiting friends who live in the village. From moment we arrived until departing the service was excellent. Room was very comfortbale with all you need. Thanks to Peter. Delores and "young" Colman for looking after us so well,

We popped in here for a quick drink & to get in out of the rain. Very pleasant staff & the place was well laid out & spotlessly clean. We didn't have time to eat but will the next time we are In Strangford. The food looked & smelled lovely - an extensive menu is available.

the food here seemed super fresh (farm to table) and was prepared wonderfully. had dinner and breakfast. both satisfied my belly. can't wait to return.
