We had the best lunch we had had for ages, delicious fresh local produce, cooked with real skill and creativity. We both had sea bream with a fabulous creamy sauce with cockles and leek. Very friendly service. Would strongly recommend this place!

The Cliff Restaurant recently hosted a Canapés, Cake and Fizz tea party for my 70th birthday. Can't praise it highly enough. The setting was lovely, the welcome warm, the presentation of the food first-class and the price very reasonable. The canapés themselves were original and exceptionally tasty, and the chocolate ganache 'grown-up' birthday cake was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Service was attentive but unobtrusive, and everything I had requested was cheerfully and efficiently provided. The gathering was an international one: time and again guests from far afield commented on how fortunate we are to have such a venue in the village of Southgate. Special thanks to Amanda for her advice, fine organisation and patient response to my repeated queries and changes of mind.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal. Started with smoked smoked in beetroot and gin and my husband had bloomer toast with ricotta and mango. Mains were hake with laverbread and seabass with a cockle sauce. By then we had eaten so well we shared a summer pudding. Oh and I forgot the home made bread when we arrived and delicious ginger nougat as a little extra at the end. Our waitress was charming, the service was prompt without being too quick. The menu changes every night so we would go again...if only we were staying longer. Reasonably priced too for such excellent food.

We were visiting my sister for the weekend and ate dinner here after a round of golf at the local course. We were a large group, four couples and to be honest when they get together my sisters can be a little loud. We had a great table at the window and had an absolutely fantastic meal. Highlights included the aperitif cockles in batter which just melt in your mouth, one couple had the whole bass shared between two, whilst others had the steak or the chicken. Everything was great! The staff were wonderful and a special thank you must go to Jack who drew the short straw serving us all night. We will he back next year. Thanks to everyone!

We visited this restaurant having seen it in a tourist flier and were not disappointed. The sea bass was wonderful and all staff were very friendly and helpful and made for a fabulous evening. A wonderful birthday meal - thank you!

This was a birthday dinner for 17 guests. I felt that reaching 80 deserved something special, in a small place where we wouldn't be swamped by other guests, with good, food at a reasonable price, and a friendly atmosphere. The Cliffs provided all this to perfection. It was particularly easy to discuss menu options [which are imaginative and locally sourced], table arrangements and drinks with the manager[ess] who made a point of giving us personal attention in an informal but efficient way. Highly recommended on all counts and easy parking an added bonus.

I know you’re not supposed to start with the dessert but I’m going to. I have spent 50 years (ish) eating cheesecakes. At the cafe that is part of this business, I’d had the lemon, it was very good, the rhubarb and ginger that I had in the restaurant is the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. That from a woman that’s eaten a lot of cheesecake. This topped off a fabulous starter (adapted to make it vegetarian) Other half had the fish version and made the same sort of yum noises that I made, for reference. They seem to employ young locals to wait on, and they are lovely - attentive and polite. This was a genuinely wonderful dining experience. This review is being written as we sit and allow the food to go down, rather chuffed with our decision to eat here. For the vicinity, it isn’t cheap, for the quality of the food and service, it is fantastic value for money. They are open to feedback (we gave some) to improve dishes that are already very good and you know they listen as they clearly want to be the best they can be. The chef came and chatted at the end of our meal. If you are near Pennard, treat yourself. Be patient. Food of this quality does not descend within minutes from a microwave. It takes talent and commitment. It is worth the wait. Cannot recommend the experience enough. Special mention to Jack the waiter. He is lovely.

Had lunch there today with my wife. Fantastic food. Had to restrain myself from licking the plate. Muscles were gorgeous, steak burger was really a huge steak sandwich. Great value for money. Really enjoyed. Looking forward to going back to try the different dinner menu.

It is next to the National Trust car park and after a walk along the cliffs we went in for something to eat. The downstairs is primarily a coffee shop with the upstairs being more of a restaurant although I think all food is available in both areas. The first time we had snacks, pizza and a vegetarian burger. Both were good so a couple of days later we went back and ate in the restaurant. We had a large whole bass cooked in paper and sufficient for two people. It was possibly the best we have ever had! It was cooked to perfection and really was enough for two. The vegetables were superbly cooked and the house wine far better than you normally get. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. Thoroughly recommend it. Long may it continue!

The upstairs restaurant is an excellent addition to the coffee shop, shop and post office. We enjoyed lunch here - the fish and seafood is a strength of the menu. Lovely staff and surroundings. We look forward to returning.

A friend and I had dinner here on a short visit to Gower and liked it so much we came back for lunch next day. The restaurant is relatively new, situated next to a long-established shop and coffee spot at the top of Pennard Cliffs. It looks very inviting with a large picture window facing you as you arrive. The service was friendly and charming, the food excellent (locally sourced, fresh, inventive, enough choice). It's the sort of place Gower doesn't have enough of and really deserves to succeed (I say this as someone brought up in 60s Swansea...). The house wine is unusually good. Southgate/Pennard is easy to reach and perfectly manageable for an evening out from Swansea. Best wishes to all involved.

Although we only live a few miles away, the opening of an evening restaurant alongside a coffee shop that we had often visited had passed us by. A birthday gift voucher from a friend unlocked this particular secret garden for us. The dinner menu is sensibly short to ensure everything is produced to a high standard but there’s a light bites menu that you can divert onto if that suits your fancy. We enjoyed starters of seared mackerel and a tomato and basil soup that you could tell was freshly made from real tomato. The pan-fried hake main course was excellent- nicely cooked fresh fish set off beautifully by a laverbread sauce. My steak could have done with more seasoning but that may be a personal preference. The chimichurri sauce served with it more than compensated though. We both had the same dessert as neither of us wanted just a half and we weren’t disappointed. The pear, prune and frangipane tart was baked to perfection and served with cream and lemon balm sprouts. The menu changes monthly so I’m sure we’ll be back!

We decided to try out The Cliff for a group lunch, there were nine of us in total. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who continued to be very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu throughout the meal. We opted for starters of butternut squash and chilli soup, mussels and the Scotch eggs which were all beautifully presented and very tasty. For the mains we chose various dishes of toad in the hole, pizza and the chicken and mushroom pie, all were very enjoyable. Desserts were also very good, with lemon tart and chocolate parfait being the favourites amongst our group. Although a small restaurant, tables were well spaced out, the décor was lovely and this is a great addition to the business. We left feeling very satisfied having enjoyed all our meals and, I think I speak for all nine of us, we will be back!

Yesterday I finally got to The Cliff in Pennard and I'm glad I did because it's the best meal I've had in Swansea for a long time. Chef Colin Lewis, formerly of Fairyhill, creates inventive dishes using local produce, most of which you won't find on another menu. For starters we had a sharing platter featuring laverbread roulade, charcuterie from @thebakerspig , and salmon smoked with beetroot and @thegowergincompany; for main I had toad in the hole made with @tysiriol sausages; and we had another sharing platter for dessert (the blueberry cheesecake was ). Everything is homemade, including the bread (we were there on "focaccia Friday"). With excellent service and stunning walks in Three Cliffs Bay, this is a must visit for any local or visiting foodies. And you can get there on the no. 14 bus from Swansea. A great new addition to the area.

We went for an evening meal on Valentine’s day. It was a fixed price menu with good choice. We had a sharing platter to start which was excellent. I had Sea Bass as a main and my wife the Spatchcock Chicken. Both were excellent. Again desert was a sharing platter with an excellent variety. The cost was £27.50 per head which was good for a Valentine’s meal. Not cheap but excellent quality. The ambience was excellent

Fantastic restaurant, a lovely night out. Nice location. The food was served quickly and very tasty. I had the leek mousse, my husband had smoked salmon to start. Mains, I had the chicken with tarragon sauce (love the tarragon sauce) and the veggie option butternut, beetroot and kale wellington - not seen this anywhere else so had to try it. We were too full to try the dessert. An excellent friendly restaurant - we will be back in the summer when we next visit. We were not disappointed.

Good friendly service. However, the restaurant menu was uninspiring and for a lunch time expensive. I was with a group and we were all disappointed. Several of us had a loose top chicken pie. The uniform squares of chicken were tender but firm and tasteless, they appeared to have been cooked separately and added after. There were green beans and a mushroom, but no potatoes with this dish. The gravy sauce was tasty. The vegetarian stir fry was apparently bland and disappointing. Toad in the hole came with mash potato but no veg? Overall it was disappointing and the highlight was the homemade bread rolls which were warm and delicious. Downstairs the cafe was full and I think a better option! They need to improve the food, menu and lower the prices.

This restaurant has positive qualities about it and these ought to be noted. The interior decor is done to a high standard and the ambience of the restaurant is lovely! The staff are fantastic and are polite, attentive and really do their best to serve you well. We visited here as a group of 6 and one of us had dietary requirements which I have to say they catered for spectacularly, the chef worked with the customer and provided a meal that she could eat without feeling self conscious. The negatives we found were that the menu is not by any means cheap, which is absolutely fine IF the food lives up to the menu description and is of a high standard. We felt that the food was lacking, in both flavour and quality. Our group members had also visited here on other occasions and again had bland food that was lacking, we hoped that this was initial teething problems but sadly we felt that the food tries to be of a high class standard and falls quite short. When price compared with other similar restaurants in the area this restaurant is not good enough and needs considerable improvement on menu taste which was something we all agreed on. Hopefully this can be taken into consideration and worked on.

We have been meaning to try the new restaurant since it opened, we were not disappointed. Local produce is used where ever possible which is a bonus, food and staff were great, nothing was too much trouble, if you want to take a doggy bag home - No problem. As we were driving and had work the next day didn't want to drink a whole bottle of wine (we chose the house wine which was very good and reasonable), so bought the bottle and took what we didn't drink home. We were bought little tasters of foods they will be putting on the next menu and asked our opinion and Colin the Chef appeared at the end of our meal for a chat . I would definitely recommend trying Y Clogwyn you wont be disappointed.

As locals we came to the cliff tonight to see how the new restaurant fared. After what we had heard we had high expectations and were not upset. Awesome meal at a good price, very friendly staff and good house wine at a good price. We took our time over the 3 course meal which comes at a discount, and had a relaxing evening talking and mixing with other guests. Overall a great night and well worth the money. Very happy to recommend. Enjoy.

Went to Truffle with my children yesterday evening. The ambience of the restaurant was great (lots of fairy lights which were lovely but could do with the dimming the top lights a little). The service was excellent; the food was really delicious: tasty; well presented and the quantity was just right. We were very warmly greeted and treated. We shall certainly eat there again. Would highly recommend.
