The Claydon Chippy in Mid Suffolk

We're regular customers here as we live in the village. Good size portions, very good food, friendly staff, well run even when busy, which is often!

I live in Claydon but not a regular visitor at this chip shop. However, tonight we visited and had a large cod, medium portion of chips and mushy peas each. All I can say is that the cod was the size of a whale 🤣 The best fish I have ever had, light crispy batter, fresh chips and lovely hot mushy peas. Nice clean premises, food freshly cooked with only a ten minute wait if ordered at the shop, telephone orders also taken. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed. I can assure you that you won’t go anywhere else after having these.

The food is reasonable quality with decent portions although the staff are quite miserable! Usually about a 10 minute wait for food

The shop was clean and very good food hygiene standards were observed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cod was cooked on order and was delicious, good portions of chips. I would recommend the curry sauce, the best chip shop curry sauce I've tried in a long while.

Lived in the village for a few years now and although we are not regular fish and chip eaters we have yet to be disappointed with our food from here. Always freshly cooked, great quality and taste and huge portions. Really friendly and local staff, clean facilities. You generally have to wait whilst it is cooked but for me this is a good thing. You definitely won’t go Hungary after a meal from here.

An excellent visit to this chippy. Fish and chips of the quality I had as a kid - go try for yourself. highly recommend giving it a try. we will certainly return

All through the lockdown, and still continuing, the boys kept us going with lovely cod and chips. Easy booking service, easy and safe collection. We always have the cod, chips and battered sausage, in fact the curry sauce is nice too. There were a few hiccups when the new owners took over but they have sorted this out months ago. The only reason I haven't left a review before is because i don't want to share 😂

Enjoyed my battered sausage and nuggets form here. They even do battered Mars bars too! Situated next to best Western Claydon has a good food hygiene rating and are in keeping with social distancing rules

All I would say is try it and see. We had excellent cod and chips on Friday 15th May. Don’t trust reviews from people who can’t spell or use proper grammar.

What can i say other than i have never had such poor quality food ,cheap yes but i would have willing paid more for better food fish was wet on the batter could not eat .so will never use again when down in suffolk.

Only thing i can say its cheap big portions but not good food . When i got the take a way home that is only 5minutes drive away on unwrapping the batter on the fish was a soggy mess the savaloy was only just warm the chips greasy all in all not at all good 😥 i dont know if it was an off day but as this was the first time i have used it , its the last

I visited the chippy en-route to a Classic Car meet at Needham Lakes, where we took our favourite takeaway. Fish and chips cooked to order, and excellent.

Firstly I notice a review here 15th July was very critical of the chips But I tend to think this is simply cos they're frying New Potatoes. I found the chips very much OK and good portion - I certainly wouldn't think old potatoes serveable. Haddock decent size and lovely fluffy batter. Big Fella serving not at all friendly the only negative..

Generally good fish and chips cooked to order but refused to accept my Scottish isue British currency and don't accept cards either. The co-op up the road will accept these notes though. Strange.

Called in for large cod plaice and small chips. A fantastic meal for two scoffed in the car just up the road. So hot we had to wait ten minutes for it to cool.. Will call again.

Love this chippy it's probably one of the best around, and not one of those that charges you almost a tenner for cod and chips. Do yourself a favour next time you get a fish supper get it from here.

Had the usual fish n chips from here, good portion size nice & clean. Good food good price & good service. I will be back

The chips are quite good. I like em. The two lads are friendly and service is good as they cook the food as you order it.

What can I say, it is a chippy, all cooked to order and just excellent!!!! The staff are always friendly and nothing ever seems a problem!

For a local chippy it has a good range and is reasonably priced. Food cooked to order so its always fresh and hot, you can even call ahead and then collect. Parking can be a bit of a pain but there are car parks nearby.

It didn't really get off to a good start, after waiting at the counter for staff, about 4 or 5 minutes I eventually got served. Battered sausage and chips I ordered open. The chips were the worst chips I have ever tried, and I've been to hundreds of chip shops. They seemed really dry and tasted like they were cooked in really old oil that hasn't been changed for a while. The sausage equally as bland. The person who served me seemed quite surly. I wont be returning.

Really lovely fish n chips, with a few extras to try...such as battered pizza slice, and deep fried mars bars (surprisingly delicious!). Call through your order first to avoid a wait, as food is all freshly prepared. Free parking off road.

Claydon fish and chip is an average chippy , the staff are friendly enough the shop looks clean and tidy however you will have a bit of a wait even if you place your order via telephone and an even longer wait in person. The quality of the food is average and I can't say it would wow you but what do you expect for a small village chippy. Over all I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Regularly get fish and chips here. All freshly cooked and as good as a choppy could be. Menu quite varied and service all you could expect.

On a visit back home to Claydon, My hubby and I decided to get some Fish & Chips from a shop that has been there since my childhood. I'd eaten there many times over the years and its always been really nice. However, subsequently look at their old twitter feed it shows that the shop had been sold since my last good eating experiences.
