Avoiding the crowds around Valentine's Day, hubby and I chose to celebrate last night at The Carpentry in Leadgate near Consett. This restaurant is a little Italian oasis offering authentic Sicilian dishes as well as traditional pizzas and pastas. As soon as you go through the door the hospitality and customer service is five star. You are welcomed with an authentic complimentary offering of Sicilian starter as you make your menu choice. The staff are very helpful and polite and will share the origins of any of their dishes with you. We were treated to an additional gifted festive morsel typical of Sicily at this time of year. As for our meal, I had mushrooms in a garlic and white wine sauce to start, hubby had 'polpette' meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce. For the main, I had chicken with gorgon zola, hubby had a traditional calzone pizza. The meal was absolutely delicious and the best bit was the baked salted caramel cheesecake for dessert. That was the best cheesecake I've ever tasted and I'm a cheesecake fan. I highly recommend this restaurant for its friendly relaxing atmosphere, its five star authentic Italian food freshly prepared and its excellent customer service. We"ll be dining there again pretty soon.

There were three of us heading out on a Friday afternoon with nothing un mind, when one of us suggested going to the Carpentry on Durham Road on in Leadgate where we work. We chose the specials menu and had a starter and a pizza for less the £10. The people who we met were lovely, and very helpful. And the food was great. We will be back again next week.

Went here for dinner today after seeing it whilst on the bus to Lanchester the week before. The restaurant itself has been decorated very nicely and the people there, think they may have been the owners, were very warm and welcoming. The menu had lots of things on it, as well as sunday lunch. We had potato skins to share followed by the Lamb from the specials board and Jack chicken. All of the food was cooked to perfection and was lovely. I had a couple of bottles of beer and the wife had a glass of wine and the bill came to about £44, very resonable. Definitely going to have a look back on an evening and try different things from the menu. I would highly recommend The Carpentry to anyone who wants a nice meal in nice surroundings in a local restaurant.

We had Sunday lunch here today and it was lovely. I had roast beef with roast potatoes, mash, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and a great big Yorkshire pudding. The mashed potato was lovely made with mint, parsley, Parmesan, cream and olive oil. The staff were lovely and I highly recommend it. The normal menu looks lovely and has a variety of specials.

Perfect little family run Italian. They presented us with a little authentic taste of Italy before our starter, the starter portions were huge, and so tasty. I had the roast beef dinner which was piping hot and absolutely delicious. My hubby had the lasagne., which he rarely gets because he says it is too dry, but totally demolished. Will highly recommend and definitely be back 🥰

Never has it been known for me to review a restaurant at 5 stars... until today. This place is a gem. Welcoming atmosphere and lovely hosts. We were seated and served immediately. Great price for drinks. Lovely chilled wine and excellent moretti. Were were given a complimentary appetizer of salami on warm bread and minted butter. Starter of bruschetta was completely amazing and my husband said that his potato skins were a delight. Mybroast beef dinner had minted mash, parsnips, roasties, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts. Along with an amazing yorkie that any Yorkshire man would be proud of!! All in delicious gravy. My husband had a creamy tomato bacon and pasta dish which went down a treat alongside my left over roast beef as the portion was plentiful. The chef came out to meet us and we left feeling like part of their little Italian family. Give this place a try, you wont be disappointed.

Freshly made, fantastic authentic Italian food with a great extensive new menu for pizzas, pasta and steaks/grill. Sunday lunch is superb also. Lovely owners and a little gem in Leadgate. Home made desserts top off the meal and great drink selection, including draft Birds Moretti. Well done.

The Carpentry is a fantastic and needed addition to the area. Fantastic decor complimented with friendly service and good food. Big portion sizes both starters and mains. Amazing value deals before 6:30 3 courses for £12.95 ish. Authentic Italian pizzas and a vast array of other dishes to choose from. I would reccomend the belly pork or the chicken Margherita pizza. Dishes are very similar to that of in Italy. Highly recommend a visit on your Friday night rather than your usual greasy just eat in front of the telly. *(On a side not you can also order their food to go!)*

This new place was recommended to me by a friend and I decided to take the plunge. We booked a table for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) for a Sunday afternoon in December and they accommodated is no problem at all. This is a family owned real Italian place and from the first minute we walked in we felt welcome and almost part do the family. The service was top notch and the food exceptional and really good portions as well as value for money. The way the place was done out was really intimate in a shabby chic way with lovely low jazz music in the background so it felt really classy and completely different from the normal food places in Consett. It was a really top drawer experience here and to top it all the owners took time out to say hello and tell us a little bit about their story. It’s a wonderful background but I won’t share it here. Pop in and see them yourselves and you’ll walk in a stranger and walk out feeling part of their family such is their warmth. The other thing we did before we left was to book for another meal 5 days later. It really is that good.... Enjoy!

We had waited for weeks to go to this new restaurant, oh dear, how disappointed were we. We were only one of two tables occupied and having been told it was going to be a "steak laboratory" we found the menu was... I would say limited but that would be a considerable understatement, only 4 starters and around 3 steak options and some random Italian mains. My chicken skewer(yes single) was small only 5 bits of chicken and some peppers, it was tasty but the chicken in Guinness sauce my wife didn't have was cold tasteless and "ugly", we left and grabbed a kebab on the way home

Lovely little place. A real neighbourhood little Italian restaurant built in England. Super friendly Italian couple own and run it - and do it very well. New and still adapting to local tastes but without compromise to being the real deal in Italian food. Pizzas...

Nice food, nice restaurant...not my personal favourite Italian, but it's pretty good. Does a good selection of seafood dishes, but pizza selection isn't great.
