The festive mixed grills came out warm at best, with no egg and over cooked chicken. The one pot prawn Caribbean curry was lovely. The salmon was also lovely. We were disappointed to find out after we had ordered our food that the carvery was still available, yet the signs said it had finished. Some of the staff were great, but there were long waits. Nice range of choices on the menu. Bit of a mixed bag experience wise.

We had a good meal at the Buck, it was Sunday lunch all round. The only thing was the presentation, everything was put on top of each other. Now I like a tidy plate of food, I don't like y food piled one on top of the other. I couldn't find my roast potatoes as they were under the cauliflower cheese. The swede was on top of my roast parsnips, The idea of a carvery is that you put the food on your plate yourself. All the meal could have been hotter, the food was only luke warm. Hotter food please. Oh and another thing AVOID THE TABLE OPPOSITE THE DOOR, IT WAS COLD EVERYTIME THE DOOR OPENED.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Buck Inn in Pontlliw for their carvery, and it was truly exceptional! The variety of meats was fantastic. A choice of beef and turkey, which was perfectly cooked and tender, with all the classic trimmings to match, the stuffing was outstanding! The vegetables were fresh, and everything was piping hot. The Yorkshire puddings were deliciously crispy and the gravy....wow. The staff were warm and attentive, making sure everything was just right, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It's the perfect place for a traditional, hearty meal. Plus on Tuesdays its buy one carvery, get one free!!! Highly recommend it to anyone in the area – can't wait to go back!

First time in The Buck, recommended by a work colleague. Easy to find with Google maps. Found parking was OK, was lucky to get a spot as its so busy here. The garden is fantastic and roomy and the smoking area under shelter with tables and cushions on long benches. Went for the Sunday roast dinner, The Calverley was amazing and plentiful of various vegetables, 3 kinds of meat. Great selection of desserts as well from menu or from the dessert trolly. I would definitely recommend giving The Buck a try.

We ordered Chicken pie completely tasteless, chicken like rubber. Chilli con carne rice rock hard & no spice what so ever in the chilli. Steak with chips & poached eggs on the side. Was told they can’t make poached eggs as they always go wrong. Steak was tough & full of fat. We won’t be back £85 bill & had way better in a weatherspoons. Who can’t cook a poached egg that works in a kitchen? Given 2 stars as the waitress was lovely.

3RD TIME AND LAST TIME we have given this place 3 chances and we are totally done. The last time we went was the worst...appalling food and service all round. We booked a table for 6 people at 7PM for my partners birthday (on a Wednesday, so not a busy weekend evening). After ordering and eating our starters, the service was so painfully slow that by 9pm we had had to ask the waitress where on earth our mains were, as two of our party had to get home and hadn't had any food. The waitress then came back with the entire food bill! We explained that we still hadn't had our food and weren't ready for the bill. Two hours from being seated is a ridiculous time to wait for a main meal. Eventually, our mains arrived, but we were not so much as offered a drink while we waited, due to the inconvenience. And what was the food like? Dire. Dry, overcooked jerk chicken which had a strange, horrible flavour...tiny portion of whitebait...watery mushrooms in a thin cream...that was just the starters. The mains were equally as bad. The burger was just that, simply a burnt burger with fries, with no garnish or side salad, more overcooked chicken and overcooked salmon. What a waste of money. We will never, ever return.

The only thing I would say is tho for the price I would have expected to see some mushrooms onion rings and maybe some salad on the plate ..not just steak chips peas and half a tomato. Cabbage stalks I was given the middle hard bits i would throw away at home. I mentioned to the server and she said she would mention to kitchen but never came back. As a carvery you weren't allowed to go back for more where most places you can. Screaming kids near us not under control by anyone. We have been midweek and the food is lovely. She is extremely dramatic and expects you to whisper the whole time your inside and what ever you do DO NOT LAUGH OR LOOK LIKE YOU ARE HAVING ANY SORT OF FUN WHAT SO EVER! Aparantly she doesn’t make any money on beers even though they charge £5.10 a pint and so you are looked down on for not ordering any food even though on the outside of the building it states they are a pub! The last time I was in this pub would be well over 45 years ago, when I had a rather odd and amusing encounter with the then landlady! Called there recently by chance on a Tuesday lunchtime in June 2024. Glad we did as they have a carvery on that day. Fabulous meal, very polite and diligent staff, nice atmosphere. If I had to be picky, we were handed two menus, one was priced, the other a lunchtime special had no prices on. The carvery seems to be something of a secret as we had to enquire if it was available and there appeared to be no indication of price. Small detail. Highly recommended...shan't wait so long to visit next time!

I took my UK-based staff to The Buck to celebrate Amie's 10 year work anniversary. I have great staff. No-one has more respect for my staff than me. And Amie is a fantastic girl. She has blonde hair like Ivanka. Courtney, Ellie and Sophie are also great girls. Courtney has black hair, Ellie is a brunette and Sophie is blonde. So I was with 2 blondes, 1 brunette and 1 black-haired girl. It reminds me of the night when I was judging Miss America. But my lawyers have told me not to talk about that. The Buck has a huge choice of food. Thousands of starters (well 12) and millions of mains (actually 57). Including 13 different types of burger. Even a Mexican burger. But none of us had that. And massive portions too. Enough to satisfy the appetites of my guys, Marco, Big John and John The Younger. Marco is a great guy. He's Egyptian. I love the Egyptians. The Pyramids are so cool! I wonder if the people who built them are still alive. I could get them to help build my wall. Big John and John The Younger are my minders. They keep an eye out for me. Fantastic guys. Anyway, the food was delicious. Cooked to perfection. And the service was amazing. All of us served quickly and at the same time. The owner is a lovely lady and the waitresses were top-notch. Even though I was in shorts and a T-shirt, not my regular suit, one of them recognised me. I invited her to back my room to read the Bible. Let's see what she says. Great value for money too. 250 UK pounds for all 8 of us. Now that's a bargain. My only disappointment is that The Buck resort does not have a golf course. But you can't have everything I suppose. PS Even though this review is written in a tongue-in-cheek quirky way, the details are ENTIRELY TRUE. We had a great time for Amie's party and will return soon.

On a wet windy day ideally you’d like some warmth not only was the host very cold and unwelcoming but so was the food. No one checked back despite being several young people standing in the hallway. I asked for a table in the main room however was seated right next to the back door. I decided to check for tables and at 4pm service was quiet as you’d expect and a customer commented on this there was 17 tables free yet the host thought it be best we sit by the freezing cold door. All customers except us where directed to bar area despite restaurant only having 2 tables seated at. The host needs retraining she was very bossy & unfriendly . Would never go back to that establishment. The way she conducted herself with staff was really quite shocking.

We went to The Buck for a family meal last November and the Jerk chicken I had was extremely spicy and delicious, and in such a large portion I had to ask for a doggy bag to take the spare chicken home...we returned on the 4th of April and the food was so disappointing in comparison...I had the banana curry and had specified a 'medium' strength. Service was prompt, but the food was bland, tasteless and without a hint of spice. There were a few sad little chunks of chicken and the rice portion was miniscule. I left a lot of it. My cousin had the same dish, which he had had last year and really recommended it to me last night. After our meal, he agreed with my assessment, and that it had been much better previously. The Baileys Sundae was quite good, but there was only a very small hint of Baileys in the bottom. The Buck's main point of difference is its Caribbean food. That is why we went there on both occasions. Yes, it adequately delivers standard pub classics, albeit with the cheapest form of skinny fries available, but those are available anywhere. I hope, for the Buck's future, that this was a one off, and that the usual chef responsible for the Caribbean food was off for the night. They need to return to the level they held last year, especially considering the prices they are now charging for what was just quite substandard fodder last night.

I’m absolutely disgusted by the way your staff/management has just spoken to me. I have never heard such a rude and arrogant women in all my life to speak to customers the way she did. Booked a table for tonight on March 3rd, for friends, only 3 of us, only to turn up & be told that all tables were cancelled as a wake was held there instead. I didn’t cause a fuss in the circumstances, but to be told there was no contact number left, which I know not to be true, is a shabby & abysmal way to treat people. This obviously wasn’t a last minute alteration. My phone number would have appeared on the display when booking & having booked & attended numerous times previously, Waters isn’t a very common surname, it wouldn’t have taken much effort to contact me. I think to turf us out like that, without prior warning is appalling customer service. Suffice to say it’ll be a long time before we go again.

But not once did she offer an alternative place to sit to accommodate a highchair. . Absolutely disgusting. What did they expect the small child to sit on parents lap and eat food. We had a few that didn’t turn up with us so we told them to sit on our spare table so they could have a highchair for there child. Think attitudes need to change with the staff. Below average dinner it’s not carvery you do not help yourself. It was pretty poor to say the least Be aware that all children are made to eat from small bowls although my daughter was 10 the bowls were tiny apparently I’m the first to ever say my daughter would need a plate not a bowl! They then proceeded to say she would have to be charged as an adult although the same went on said plate as bowl! I asked for a small bowl for my baby should i have been told they were going to be charging me £3:75 for a tiny bit of mash and swead I wouldn’t have bothered as most of the bowl was water! I ordered jerk belly pork I was served jerk chicken which they changed , in the meantime my partner was eating alone he ordered lamb curry which her did not finish due to eating alone . My jerk belly pork came and it was served in gravy no jerk seasoning or a hint of spice, cut in slices not belly pork just a pork slice .i also ordered the jerk chips which were served in gravy not a hint of jerk or spice just gravy . Overall absolutely terrible not the meal I have had in the past . Service from one member of staff behind the bar not nice( no apology or help trying to sort the situation. obviously they do not have any jerk seasoning in the kitchen or no chef .i will not be returning to receive Caribbean food served in gravy instead of jerk . Lovely carvery with lots available. The beef was perfectly cooked, carrots could have been a bit hotter but everything else was great! Big jug of gravy served to the table. Plenty of parking and a nice beer garden. Staff were really friendly and the venue was warm, relaxed and inviting.

Not the best of experience from the Start as I visited the bathroom on entry front of house seated my partner in the restaurant,we I came to front of house I was told that the was no table booked under my name and was told to wait as she decided to serve others customers,I had to phone my partner to see were she was in the restaurant as I could not get passed front of house,my partner came to get me and front of house didn't have the decency to apologize.awful start to the experience followed by a dirty bottle of ketchup on our table.

Used to come here often for the cavery in the week until they stopped it.The've started back up again now so we though we would try it.Firstly it's not a cavery the person behind the counter serves you what you want and you have a jug of gravy brought to you.Food was lovely except the stuffing which was bread and onion in mush.No thyme or safe in it.Much preferred the way it was serving yourself. The Bridge in Llangennech and the bird in hand in Hendy you help yourself

Lovely lunch I have been here several times before and love the sausage and mash with onion gravy. A lovely warm homely dish for this time of year however I was disappointed that my onion gravy didn’t have any onions and tasted like bisto…

What an absolute warm, welcoming and authentic Caribbean experience. The host , Barbara, was very attentive, knowledgeable and explained the menu options to us. We had jerk chicken, curry goat, patties, plantain and dumplings. The taste was amazing and portions were plentiful. Imthjs is our number 1 spot for excellent Caribbean food in Swansea!. Keep up the excellent work, Barbara !
