Loved this wee place! I Stayed 1 night at this gorgeous hotel in a beautiful setting, as i was going to a meeting nearby, lorraine was a fantastic host right from the minute we arrived, rooms were absolutely spotless and decorated in keeping with the property, she had thought of everything, even had a mini fridge with milk and an amazing choice of teas /coffee. I dont normally sleep well when in hotels but i did here, loved the bar with a fire, the food was delicious and at breakfast there was a big choice and cooked fresh, staff were all lovely and friendly, i dont have anything at all negative to say, if im ever in the area again i will definately stay here!

Enjoyed our food , came for Sunday lunch, only one small issue, we were served a portion of veg and potatoes, which was not enough for 4 people, the table opposite had the same portion and there was only two of them.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch at this most attractively presented restaurant. The food was well cooked and presented and the beef sirloin was top quality. The welcome and service were both exemplary. Well deserving of it's reputation

Went for dinner here last night for the first time and what more can I say apart from it’s very good. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely go again. The pie was amazing! Good wine list, although bottles were just opened and put on the table, as opposed to us being asked to taste and then poured. That aside we were very happy - thank you.

We stayed here for 3 nights recently , and ate in their restaurant each evening. Absolutely bowled over by the whole experience. The food and service is exceptional , the Lincolnshire cheese soufflé, Scallops and black pudding, Cod with peas and chargrilled lettuce, and the chicken supreme were some of the memorable dishes. Excellent breakfast, too. Our room was very comfortable with nice touches, such as fresh milk in a little fridge, and a wide selection of teas. We enjoyed exploring the area - there’s such alot to see and do within a short drive. Thank you to Lorraine and your team.

We love it here and have been coming for many years. You always get a lovely warm welcome from Lorraine, the owner and all of her staff treat you as friends. It's a beautiful restaurant in a lovely village, great food but a relaxed atmosphere. Tonight I had the asparagus with crispy poached egg, bacon and hollandaise, delicious. Then the cod done in risotto, tasty. My husband had the Baked alaske banoffee pie for dessert, said it was one of the best he had ever had. Lovely bar for after dinner drinks or if we ever get a British summer there's a lovely garden to sit in. Give this place a visit, you will not be disappointed.

I've not been here before even though its quite close to me. Booking was easy on-line and we were sent useful reminders leading up to the evening. We found parking nearby a little challenging but that's probably because of its popularity. The food was excellent and whilst the menu was not extensive the meals offered were well though out, high quality, well presented and intricately blended for textures and flavours. Our table was i little strange (one end of an oval) but that didn't detract from a brilliant evening. We'll definitely be going back

We were somewhat disappointed with our meal. We expected great things for the prices. It also looks very formal, but the wine we chose was bought to the table opened and literally just plonked down. I was expecting to be shown the wine first and for it to be opened at the table and poured for us. The soufflé starter was lovely but the mains seriously let the whole meal down. The risotto for £23.00 is not worth the money it was chalky and no finesse with the presentation, a nice drizzle of olive oil wouldnt have gone amis and the ice cold bitter courgette not required nor on the description! The rib eye was good and cooked well, the pork was very tasty but the sauce was gloopy and thick. The whole sole was not whole only half. There were no prawns for the buerre blanc sauce and it was split. We didn't stay for dessert. We won't be returning. There are better places to eat that offer better meals for your money.

I've been to this restaurant many times over many years and always found it delivers very very high quality food and service and therefore, to have an expensive, mediocre experience on this occasion was more than disappointing. The food was no better than average and it was very highly questionable as to whether the rib-eye steak I ordered was even a rib-eye. There was no "eye", no rib eye shape and just looked like a small round pice of meat of no particular origin. When I queried it, the comment I got was that was how the butcher supplied it. An option to have something else from the menu was given and accepted, but that's hardly the point. The chateaubriand chosen by other members of our party proved to be quite tough and that cut of meat from the tenderloin should be one of the most tender cuts of meat. Tender, it wasn't. The point of this review is not to criticize every element of the meal but to point out that the standards that evening fell far far below expectations. The wine was simply opened and put of the table with no attempt to serve. There was no restaurant manager in evidence, and whilst the waitresses were unquestionable very good, polite and sought to please, the absence of Lorraine with her hostess skills was quite marked. It's true to say that just one bad experience at a restaurant can put you off returning and sadly, that has been the case for us. Reputations are very hard come by and so easy to compromise. You just can't ever "take your eye off the ball" in hospitality. Stephen C

Visited for a second time to celebrate our anniversary and everything was as we had expected. First class food and service. We decided to stay overnight this time and the room was warm, comfortable and tastefully decorated. I don’t think we have stayed anywhere that provides as many choices of tea / coffee in the room and the provision of fresh milk in a small fridge was much appreciated.Dinner and drinks service was quiet and efficient, food choices are sufficient to cover most peoples’ requirements and was superb in taste / presentation. When staying overnight you can look forward to a breakfast of equal quality to the dinner service, again served with a friendly smile, what’s not to like, I think we will have to visit at a similar time each year from now.

Plainly a dining venue rather than a wet pub, we had a great meal here whist visiting my 92 year old mother, who lives locally. Food was excellent - plenty of finesse but neatly married to a generous outlook on portion size. The flavour combinations were unusual and interesting - lamb scotch eggs were just as intriguing and lip-smacking as they sounded. The assiette of pork too was marvellous. The combination of the two meant that I was well and truly beaten when it came to the dessert menu. Pricing was fair, service was attentive and charming, delivery was speedy and the ambience and decor/furnishings were smart, if slightly formal. Perfect for a grand-motherly occasion. Many thanks - we would certainly recommend a visit to The Brownlow Arms and hope to be able to follow our own advice 'ere long.

My wife and I went for Sunday lunch and I can honestly say that it was spectaulaly good ,probably the best Sunday lunch we've ever had, from the moment we arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady who guided us to the lovely bar area where we sat and looked through the delicious menu, the decor is delightful and the the staff were welcoming and informative. Our table was prepared with beautiful clean crisp cotton table linen and super comfortable chairs , the waiting staff were attentive but not intrusive and the food presentation was on point and professional, at times I had to remind myself that the place is a pub not a Michelin starred restaurant such is the standard, it has a lovely ambience too. The food was absolutely delicious and very generous portions . I cant wait to go back if I'm honest ! Thank you so much for a fantastic experience.

Visited for Sunday lunch with absolutely no expectations as was booked by family but was throughly enjoyable from the moment stepped foot inside. Each member of the team was very attentive (but in a very natural way). We visited with my children (6yrs and 3yrs), it was so nice they were spoken too directly, made them feel special (if you haven’t got kids this is rarer than you perhaps think!). Food and drink was excellent, perhaps best lunch had in years…and that poacher soufflé, not stopped thinking about it. Rebooked for my birthday next month, can’t wait. Well done.

Great place to visit and quality food Service team all need more training.. also a uniform or appropriate clothing to suit the restaurant. Perhaps to show the customer that they are being served would help. Not pouring wine or offering water for the table seems to lessen the value on the prices charged. Throw it on the table Ieave you to it then .. wine not shown to the table. Just left to be poured.. no presentation at all . Food was delicious and adequate with reasonable portions, though dessert somewhat expensive Just the finesse of a quality “waited on” service is missing in my opinion The check “is everything ok ?” Was way too late in the meal .. too late by then anyway Owner is very friendly and welcoming and makes an effort to make sure of a welcoming smile. Restaurant is not a cheap place and after we hat must be 20-30 years toilets need an clean and an update

Lovely country hotel / restaurant. The Brownlow arms is a charming country inn with comfortable rooms. The owner / manageress Loraine could not have been more helpful. The breakfast was very nice. I had the yoghurt with berries followed by scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Tea, coffee and fruit juice with lovely fresh toast. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we had other plans but the menu looked very good and locals rave about the food. All in all a very good stay.

It is traditional and the staff are welcoming but the setting is beautiful and I could park right outside. I had a wonderful haddock chowder drizzled with basil oil and sprinkled with chives. My second course was a twice baked cheese souffle and it was utterly delicious. They would have served it as a main with veggies but it was perfect for me just as it was. My partner had a pate with a marmalade style addition and two tiny oatcakes. His main course was a Belton suet pudding which was a large portion but kindly had very thin pastry. We also had a bottle of New Zealand sauvignon blanc which oozed gooseberries. We would have loved the cheese board but I was full and it was time to get him back for his train.

This was our third visit to the Brownlow Arms and it was by far the poorest experience - perhaps down to Covid but regardless - people choose to go here as its one of the nicer dining experiences so suitable for an occasion. On the whole the food was OK but overall uninspiring. The dressed crab had plenty of shell in it and really needed some toast or something crunchier (other than the shell!) to provide some texture. It was also very under seasoned. Main Courses were good but again under seasoned.I was given the wrong menu for dessert and the chocolate tart came with pistachio ice cream rather than the milk ice cream as advertised. On the whole the desserts were tasty. The petit fours also arrived a good 15mins after the coffee.

The food was very good but the service was poor. The main courses had to be returned as they were cold due to the time it took for the vegetables to arrive. The meals had to be plated again and delivered with fresh vegetables. The time it then took for the desserts to arrive seemed to be explained by the realisation of the staff to their absence from the table and appeared to react to this oversight.

We have to admit that we have a personal reason for our first visit to the Brownlow Arms, our son is the pastry chef there and we are so proud of what he has achieved. But wow! what an evening, it was superb. We were met on entrance by host Lorraine whom explained how service would be conducted and how the bathroom system worked. After checking our temperatures she took us to our table. All of the very friendly staff took full precautions during service giving us a full sense of safety during the meal. As for the meal, the amuse bouche of Wild Mushroom Toastie and Cider Braised Chorizo were delicious. My starter of Citrus Cured Trout was amazing and my wife's Game Terrine was so tender. I had always wanted to try Calves Liver and I couldn't have chosen a better time to taste it, the liver was delicate and sauce perfectly accompanied by delicious mash and vegetables. I have never tasted so tender a Pheasant Breast as my wife had and thoroughly enjoyed. From our point of view the desserts topped off the meal superbly with the Chocolate Nemesis with Peanut Butter Ice-cream for myself and my wife delighting in the Caramelised White Chocolate Mousse . The Brownlow Arms is highly recommended and fully deserves to retain their 2 rosette rating with the AA and I look forward to further accolades, not to mention more visits.

This is the fourth time we have eaten at the Brownlow Arms and have had different dishes on each visit - all fabulous. Hard to pull out individual dishes as they are so varied and each of them come alive with their own flavours. Our visit last night was with some friends, one looking for vegan options who emailed ahead asking of availability. As a result a separate bespoke menu (with choices per course) was provided when we were seated at our table - so lovely rather than just a ‘one meal’ option. Our wine (Malbec) was really smooth and was rightly left on our table in the current social climate so we could serve ourselves, as were the meals delivered within suitable distance. It was a busy Saturday evening but as our drinks were delivered promptly it enabled us to catch up with our friends without friendly nudges to order - the time flew by. This is a pub where you can dress up or be smart casual and make your evening a special occasion. It’s old English style and decor inside makes it a cosy and welcoming stone-built traditional British pub. We’ll definitely be back - such a friendly team running it and Lorraine, the owner really cares about not only her customers, whilst remembering the small detail, but also her team who we’ve seen her make time for each of them at the end of the evening before they head home.

I had read the rave reviews and menu for the Brownlow arms and had immediately marked it as a must visit. My parents were visiting the area and, being restaurant owners for almost 40 years themselves, I decided this was the ideal place to take them. We ate on a Saturday evening and the establishment appeared busy and the atmosphere was as expected for a Saturday evening. The decor was a quaint country pub and very comfortable. We ordered water and wine which was just put on the table, no one poured this, so eventually we did it for ourselves. We ordered our starters and mains and yet 50 minutes later we still had not received any food - luckily we had ordered extra bread to tide us over. Coming from the industry, I understand that Saturday night's cna be busy and waiting times longer, however no one had warned us of this at ordering, or at any point during our wait. Eventually when the starters did arrive, we were somewhat disappointed. Personally, I had ordered the scallop starter (emphasis on the singular). I have no complaints paying £10.75 for a scallops starter, but would expect more than one scallop! However the scallop was well cooked. The others in my party complained their souffle and terrine were tasteless. The souffle was also poorly presented, simply in a soup bowl - it defeats the entire purpose of double baked souffle being initially baked in a ramekin, tipped out and re-baked unsupported. No point during the starters or on clearing, did a member of staff ask if everything was ok with our meal. When mains arrived, I was much more impressed with my lamb. It was cooked absolutely perfectly and I particularly enjoyed the garlic pesto. One member of my party had the sea bream which was over-cooked and dry with more potatoes than anything else on the plate. Again, we were not asked if everything was ok with our meal at any point. For dessert I opted for the classic sticky toffee pudding which was presented poorly in what I would call a chinese rise bowl. The cake was dense and chewy and the home made ice cream was somewhat flavourless. The members of my party who had the brownie and the bakewell sponge also complained that their desserts were underwhelming and did not hit the decadent notes you crave from a good dessert.Overall, I desperately wanted to enjoy this experience as the menu is everything I love about classic British food and I would have happily ordered anything off the menu. There is clearly potential in the establishment, however, I feel they are trying too hard without the ability to back it up. I understand the establishment is in a position between country pub and restraurant but it is marketed as restaurant on their website and the prices are akin to a restaurant, therefore I do not think it is too much to expect that the service and overall experience match the price and advertising. The staff members were all pleasant but there was no continuity and therefore I felt we were forgotten outside of the service and clearing of plates. I also felt they lacked some of the basic service skills such as pouring drinks and asking if everything is ok.From experience, I understand any eatery can have off days and maybe we were unfortunate to have a bad experience. If this is the case then maybe I would consider re-visiting, however I would be hesitant to spend over £200 again for a meal where I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

Loved every bit of the Brownlow experience, hospitality second-to-none. Will be back and recommend this to anyone travelling from London up the A1 -- take a detour, it's worth it.

I have had several meals at the Brown low arms, all of which have been very good until this one.We were a party of 7with a 2pm booking. This I feel had an effect on the delivery and quality of the courses served to us. I booked several wks in advance therefore not a walk in.The starters were not presented well with no garnish, the roast meals were good but there was no stuffing available, which we did accept, the veg was hit and miss what looked liked what was left in the kitchen and some of us had nice roast pots, others not so good and minute.the most disappointing were the deserts.3 of us orderd the crumble, all i can say is appalling, should never have left the kitchen.the topping was raw porridge oats, all were sent back.Unfortunately serving food like that has lost you further custom and recomendation. No management came to apologise, all too busy clearing away and resetting tables.certainly wont return.

2 couples had a delightful evening of food and wine My wife is celiac but the staff and chef were excellent The tempura prawns with garlic and chilli sauce were amazing also the chateaubriand my wife had the duck which was superb and the lamb as cutlets and a small shepherds pie was great a touch on the expensive side but in my opinion worth it We had a cote de Rhône very good value but the Picpoul de Pinet at nearly £28 was very expensive we will be back

Despite there being no power and it being a particularly miserable day we had a lovely sunday lunch today. Neither myself or my partner are usually very keen on pub roast dinners but this one was lovely and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff were well humoured despite the challenges of today.

We go here for Sunday lunch about 4 or 5 times a year. Best in the area by far. Lorraine and the team are great. Always a nice 20 minutes in the bar for a drink and then the food, menu and service are excellent.Went today in the middle of Storm Ciara to find no electricity. However we still.had a fantastic welcome, great food by candlelight, you would never have known anything was wrong. Well done to Lorraine and all the team.

Lovely restaurant but bar area not big enough felt awkward standing and trying to view the menu, we did eventually get seated by lovely log fire which was nice. Food was ok but had better locally and not so pricey. Was disappointed as we were looking forward to this meal a treat from our daughter, feel safe to say wont be heading back there anytime soon.

On the 27th Dec we were going to our usual garden centre restaurant at Belton. But it was closed! We drove towards towards Lincoln and came across the Brownlow Arms. What a find!! We went into the crowded bar and said we wanted a light lunch.. No problem they said .. everyone around us was eating 3 course lunches. 2 of us had sandwiches I had a rissotto. The other had a great homemade soup. All food was served by very friendly staff and of great quality. Well done. From a delighted customer.

A get-together / lunch with friends. The service was perfect and food to match. A big dish of mussels as a starter was an incredible sight and taste - both appear to still remain in my husband's memory! A lovely and peaceful setting and we were able to catch up with all the gossip - just wonderful and we'll be back in the not too distant future. Well done and thank you to your team - keep up the good work.

Meal was not worth the money we went with a family of 4 and got the same amount of food as someone with a family as 2. The potato’s where heated up and the beef came out half uncooked. We also sat and waited for an hour and the amount of meat the kids got was awful.

Whilst the village is “somewhat out of the way” the quality of the service, food and decor are up there with some of the best establishments we have visited. Very efficient from our arrival to final service and the food for me was excellent, all served with a smile by a small but efficient team. The menu choice covers most elements and if the set menu matches the a la Carter for quality then it would be very good value, the wine list again covers all tastes and budgets. What is fortunate is that we are within quite easy distance to travel so without doubt we will make a return visit.

We booked to stay here through booking.com at their supposedly reduced rate of £130 per night for a deluxe double room. The inn accommodated an early check in as we were attending a wedding in the afternoon. The room (3) was decorated in a French Revolution style, it was medium sized and very quiet. There was a double bed, that was reasonably comfortable, but had a very heavy winter quilt on it, we slept for 4 hours maximum as it was just too hot. The room was let down by one corner of the ceiling near the door, which was visibly damp and looked as though it was coming away from the wall

We thoroughly enjoyed the seafood linguine which had an excellent coating sauce. My only reservation would be to read the bill carefully. Two people had ordered sandwiches, one of which included chips but we were charged £3 extra for chips in addition. I would also be careful of 'Small Water' as it cost £2.50. On the other hand I ordered two halves of the Tim Taylor beer which cost £4.26 with a pint costing £4.25 so no mark up on ordering halves which is unusual but very welcome

Great atmosphere in a restored 17th century inn in a rural village somewhat off the beaten track, sympathetically decorated and furnished. Excellent service, menu full of interesting choices plus Sunday favourites, prepared on site by a talented kitchen staff. I would need to try the a la carte menu too give 5 stars, so a good excuse to return.

This is a lovely restaurant, and we have been a few times, but on our recent visit we were disappointed. My partner booked this for a birthday meal, it was quiet in the restaurant with only a few tables taken. The ambiance was lovely as usual, the food however was not. We shared bread & olives to start which was fine but the main meals one of lamb the other pork belly were pretty mediocre. The pork was completely black underneath & very fatty in the middle (I understand that this cut of pork is fatty but i've had much nicer pieces) The lamb again was not the best. The sweets were just ok expensive for what you get.

We called in on the off chance for Sunday lunch on the way back from an event having read a good review recently. The maitre D runs a brilliant small team and the front of house couldn’t have been more accommodating - had taken drinks orders and suggested we enjoy the Sun whilst they set our table up. The food was really brilliant. I had pate for starters and my only criticism was that there was too much! Initially when I saw the large portion I assumed it would be average but it was a really lovely pate, just too much for me with two large slabs! Main was roast beef and it was brilliant, really lovely rolled sirloin served pink. We were on a hiding from the night before so neither indulged in the wine but they had a really lovely wine list and a busy restaurant. The service was lovely, so nice to see such a well turned out dining room complete with linen for Sunday service. 10/10 to front of house for all of their efforts here. Will definitely return in the week to sample their full menu(and wine list!)
