Food overpriced for what you get

Came here for a Sunday roast catch up with friends. The food was tasty. The staff were nice. We had beef, pork, and butternut squash roast. The Yorkshire puddings were massive and very pleased with them. The food was very good, but I'm not giving a 5 as I wasn't blown away. But it was by no means bad. Very nice spot. We also had pudding which was nice, we had the fruit crumble, sticky toffee and ice cream

Really friendly & cosy pub! We ordered a mix of vegan plates and everything was delicious, super pleased to see such a variety of dishes. The staff were really friendly, we'll definitely be popping back soon :)

Always been a nice pub with good outside space and friendly atmosphere, and now the new venue for our monthly car club meet. All food looks great.

Been wanting to come here for food for ages so was really looking forward to tonight Well bit of a let down to be honest Met up with a group of old friends We ordered some starters but asked if they would bring them with the mains they came out way before the mains some of them were actually some of the parties main course then the mains came out in dribs and drabs my pizza wasn’t one of them waited and waited eventually my husband tried to attract someone’s attention she said very rudely give me a minute which my husband being deaf didn’t hear so he asked again and again rudely I said give me a minute she never did get back to us I eventually got my pizza when the rest of the party had nearly finished no one came to ask if our meals where ok Very poor will give this place a miss in future

We visited this afternoon. Food and service were excellent. Served by Kate who was lovely and advised us how big a starter was so that we could share. Will definitely be back

Amazing food, amazing, friendly staff very clean. The food was cooked to perfection. I had the panfried cod loin absolutely delicious to follow. I gad a chocolate and raspberry torte also delicious . My friend had the Lamb shank, which she said was delicious . I will definitely visit again. It's worth it food value .

Waited 30mins for soggy bruschetta with mushrooms and a further 40mins for 4mains which were average and not worth the long wait. It was very quiet so I dont understand why it took so long. It's such a nice pub and a shame we wont be going back

The staff were amazing and the service was great, however the lamb shank wasn't what we expected and was toug with gristle on it... Not like the Ham Hock we've had previously. A bit disappointed :(

Decent beer selection with the usuals plus a couple of craft beers from northern monk and salt. We had pie and chips which was average at best.

Good pub good food. Has a beer garden. Don't buy a hotdogs at the bonfire event. Cheapest tinned hotdogs, tiny, my thumb for scale, cold and disgusting especially for £7. Steer clear......

Deceptive on the outside spacious on the inside. Food very good . Generous portions . Staff polite and attentive. Outside are for functions . Pizza oven. Loads of outside space Needless to say I will be coming back

I ordered the Beef pie marinated in Guinness... the best pie I ever tried 😋 also with home made chips, highly recommended 💯🤤 The staff was very friendly and professional 👏🏼 10/10

The last three times I have been here I have sat down at a table without a reserved sign and been made to move because someone rang up and booked the table I was sat at , how can you reserve a table if I was already sat at it waiting to be served?????

Absolutely fantastic went for our wedding anniversary and it was the best Sunday dinner we have ever had in a pub would definitely go again

We enjoyed our meal at the British Oak last Sunday lunchtime the 19th May. The staff were busy as they had a large party to cater for, but they were kind and attentive and could not do enough for us. The Pies were really tasty, as was my wife's Beef roast. Such a change from the unprofessional attitude we found at the Phoenix at Ridgeway. I would recommend the British Oak whole heartedly.

We only popped in for a quick drink but the pub is beautiful, tradition wood style with lots of modern Sheffield art.

I ordered a haddock wild rice biryani however I found it disappointing. It was haddock curry service with rice and a plain Nan. It should have had a coconut Nan and onion salad but there was no salad and the Nan was plain shop bought. The curry was ok but it was not has expected. I did tell the server I wasn’t happy but they just seemed dismissive. I won’t be going again!

Truly traditional English pub, with great atmosphere. Accepts children and dogs. Free parking. Menu interesting but limited in our view but very tasty.

Good food. Good atmosphere. The staff and service was top notch. Well looked after and felt like we were appreciated as customers.

Great place to dine (the Pies are a must) and to meet people. Superb friendly staff. Now you can watch live sports. Events and promotions a plenty.

Excellent range of beers. A very good buffet spread that was replenished frequently.

Lovely ultimate burger proper homemade and well stacked. Staff were friendly but really disgruntled with Management who they slated between each other for a good 15 mins.

Went with some friends for festive menu. The food was exceptional and our party was made up if vegetarians and carnivores! The place was very busy so service was a little slow and great atmosphere but music a bit noisy but food was such great quality well worth it!

Booked last minute. It took ages to get served at the bar no one acknowledged us to say they would be with us despite there only been us at the bar. Ordered pie roast which was fantastic and the guy who served us definitely made up for the bad service at the bar. Desert I had apple and cinnamon crumble which was absolutely gorgeous. Great chef !!

We had a planned function in the conservatory for a baby shower. It was absolutely perfect the atmosphere, staff and the food. The staff were really helpful and couldn’t do enough for us, but they also weren’t overly involved which we liked, we were able to enjoy ourselves and it was very intimate. They allowed us to put decorations up too! Atmosphere was really cozy and intimate which was perfect for our function. We had a pizza party for the buffet and they were amazing, all fresh and a good mix of different flavours. There was also plenty of pizza and chips and most of us couldn’t move with the amount of food! Would highly recommend The British Oak for functions!

Went for Sunday lunch and got sat next two stinking, wet dogs, one of which was barking inside, despite half of the pub being empty at the time. Service was a joke. Ended up leaving before the desserts come after waiting too long. We already prompted the staff for the starter and the main. It’s cheap, but won’t bother again.

Nothing was too much trouble, the food was lovely, service was impeccable! See you again soon!

Beautiful pub with attentive, polite, friendly staff. Sunday lunch was delicious and plentiful, dessert was incredible! Would have given it a full five stars for the food if the roast potatoes had been crispy… but that wasn’t really a issue just a preference. Will definitely be back!

Must be 30 years since I last stepped foot in here so totally unrecognisable since my last visit (you can say the same about me!). I'm very impressed to the point that next time I'm passing and fancy a pint, I will call in. Attentive staff and a great beer selection in comfortable surroundings. Only slight grumble would be the music played where we were sitting was a bit intrusive. We like to talk......

Sunday dinners was beautiful quite clear it was all fresh and homemade. All the other food coming out looked lovely can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Just wish I had room for a pudding :) Lovely atmosphere Staff was all lovely and friendly made adjustments for my I must have beans with everything 5 year old so thank you for that it was much appreciated.

We were visiting our daughter they use the Oak all the time it didn't disappoint.

Went on father's day to celebrate, the food was amazing the service was amazing too, love this place so happy we choose it for our meal.

Came in for fathers Day, really polite staff, pub nice and clean. We had Sunday dinner very filling! Lovely experience, not been in for years we will deffo be back soon

The new menu is a huge improvement on the old one. We were a party of 8 and each of us enjoyed the starters, mains, and desserts between us. The spritzers on the drinks menu were also great. Service excellent. We had a really lovely evening.

Good selection of beer and real ales. Friendly bar staff and nice beer garden. We had stone baked pizza, hand cut chips and dough balls. All tasty. Will be visiting again.

Had a scotch egg with piccalilli and then Mexican quesadillas all very nice and not that expensive. My fellow diners had pizzas and chips all were delicious apparently

Lovely food. Great portion size and great service from the staff. Nothing to much trouble . Beer choices good.

If you venture into The British Oak for food, make sure to order the Black Pudding Scotch Egg, delish. If that's not your bag there are loads of options, bit sad about not seeing a steak option, but thems the times!

Had a great meal with family ..Great service

This place has a cozy feel when you step inside. Did feel quite pricey ordered two drinks which came to £16.00. Also with the pie and chips the gravy that come with it was very thin so for lovers of thick gravy ask for it to be thickened up a bit. Plenty of car parking and you can’t hear any noise from the traffic outside.

One member of the party had gammon,and eggs ,and the gammon was very salty .The fried egg was burnt and hard .They brought another fried egg out and this was the same .Not a good experience.

Traditional pub with a perfect Sunday roast. Set me up for my journey back down South.I will be back when next in Sheffield.

Had a lovely meal there with my husband. Even though they were short staffed, the service was fast and the food was great.

The rustic decor is tired and the lighting is poor, it needs a refurb. Very mediocre, not much between their Sunday lunch and a cheap carvery. They don't serve anything on Sunday except pie or roast, great for us but would have expected a kids option (fish and chips etc). The Mossbrook although more costly is much nicer.

Lovely place with excellent food

Food was pre-ordered but they didn't have some of the desserts we ordered. Not all of us were asked if we wanted an alternative and so didn't get one. 2 of the children's desserts were forgotten until we asked for them. All in all quite disorganised. On the plus side the vegetables were nice (as a vegetarian, can't comment on the meat dishes)
