This was nr2 on our list of pubs in Darlington and finished being the best of 5 that we visited. There was a good choice of real ale and the pint we chose was perfect. The pub had a good mix of clientele, and on leaving the landlord thanks us and hoped we had had a good drink. Would easily return and recommend to all as a ‘proper’ old style pub with good ale and friendly service.

I came in here during my stay in Darlington because I'd read the good reviews on here. Often they don't pan out; but in this case they are spot on--it's a wonderful pub. The ideal bar (but rare) for me is one that sells good real ales, has a nice look to it, friendly staff, and sociable fellow drinkers. The Britannia ticked all those boxes with ease. The lady from Northallerton serving was a most smily and helpful person, who consults a huge tome about breweries to make sure she knows her stuff. She was good-humoured and welcoming--I don't know if she's an owner or an employee, but she's an asset. Other drinkers include you in an easygoing way, in this miniature, perfectly formed old pub, which is really only a stonethrow from the centre of town, so should not be missed as peripheral. I was given plenty of help by all on the best places to drink on my ale trail of the town.

Proper old-school little boozer. Great ales, including traditional north-east brews and some more 'southern' pale hoppy ones. Cracking juke box that never gets too loud. Canny bunch of locals (with the whiff of friendly eccentricity about one or two of them). OK for our four-legged friends if they're calm. Lou and Amy run the place. You sometimes have to take one of them with a pinch of salt, at other times she's unintentionally hilarious. Regulars are mainly blokes, but its definitely OK for women (blokes with manners). Vodka shelf, and a gin shelf, for those who know what they're drinking in that line.

Under new management but the same high standards are being maintained. A change of landlord hasn't reduced the quality or range of the ales on offer. Still the same welcoming atmosphere and friendly locals, a must visit pub on the Darlo Real Ale Tour. A "real" old style pub, wide range of craft ales, wines and spirits plus fantastic home made and cooked food. Friendly atmosphere with welcoming locals. They stock an extensive range of draft beers from IPA's to Ruby Reds, all kept in first class order. Also, a number of local, national and international bottled beers. The pies are a must and home made, try them with the mash and peas. The Burgers are something special, but please us the knives and forks - I didn't and the table bore the brunt 😄. Look out for the old cast iron Britannia tables, lovely to see them in a perfect setting, just don't try and move them!

The Britannia is a great little pub! Recently refurbished and now selling quality food, the surroundings are comfortable and the decor helps to create an appropriately warm and friendly atmosphere! The pub recently re-opened its doors, with new tenants Carley and Colin providing excellent meals ("proper home-cooked pub grub" served most days - noon 'til 8.00 pm) plus tasty snacks throughout the day. The hand-pulled beers, 5 real ales, are always in excellent condition and there's quality lagers, an epic range of world crafted bottled beers, plus a unique range of bespoke spirits always available! The pub is known as a community pub with local residents visiting most days of the week but the quality fare on offer also attracts visitors from further afield. There's always something of interest going on, so the pub is ideal for solo visitors. Whether with family, friends or just on your own, you're sure to receive a warm welcome when you cross the threshold at the Britannia!

I visited here with a couple of mates last week. We were pleasantly surprised. The pub was occupied by a few people so quiet. The landlady served us with a smile and the real ale was perfect. We all commented on how clear and clean the ale was and how flavoursome. We only intended to stop for one but enjoyed the quiet and the nice pint so much that we stayed for another. We will be visiting again soon. A lovely little traditional pub that has not lost its heritage. Fantastic! If the landlady reads this, we thank you very much!

As far as I can remember my experience of the Britannia Inn was as follows. I left 64 Greenbank Road and turned left. Left again, and there it was. Or nearly. The beer was Cameron's Strongarm, or Vaux and it was a quiet pub with a few people in it saying nothing. About 50p / pint. There was a cinema not too far away, and an off licence displaying the sign "Free Beer" which on investigation proved a disappointment. I thoroughly recommend the Britannia but the price of beer might have gone up somewhat since 1977. (The Cinema was the Odeon, showing Close Encounters of the Third Kind...just remebered)
