The Boat House in West Dunbartonshire

The food was mediocre, and the atmosphere felt really cold. Unfortunately, the service was lacking as well, which was surprising for a 5-star hotel.

Terrible meal & service at La Vista, Cameron House hotel. This should be branded a “family friendly restaurant” on your website as when we arrived the place had kids running around without adults and children on “heely” trainers (trainers with wheels) as though it was a play park. I was here to celebrate my 26th birthday with my mum and upon ordering a bottle of wine at the table, was ID’d. There is a time & place for ID’ing an individual, not at the table as your server named Caitlin did. The bottle of wine which came after the ID check was warm, not what you want after spending £40 on it. The tiramisu was frozen and defrosted - full of water & very unpalatable. Thankfully, we were able to remove the 12.5% service charge at the end however, no interest from waitress Caitlin on why we wanted to remove the service charge. Oh and last thing; appreciate it’s the 4th of January but even a fake smile from your waitresses would go a long way! Don’t recommend & will definitely not be back.

Mussels are best thing on menu. Would give them 5 stars. Everything else was a tad overcooked (guanciale, pasta). Wine very good. Atmosphere gorgeous and staff tremendous. Would recommend bar gets some garnishes for gins.

Noisy canteen style dining with no refinement whatsoever. Hugely disappointing. Nothing like the 5 star review on here...food very bland and overpriced. Pizza was oily with bits of fat that were supposed to be pancetta, generally very poorly put together. I've had better frozen shop bought, which is a shame given the clay pizza oven on show. Also never had carpaccio that was seared and didn't seem fresh. Can't believe Cameron House is putting such low quality out. Never again, (could have) spoiled my birthday.

Average food with below average service, waited for our food only to get the wrong stuff brought to our table, never ended up getting one of our starters but by the time we realised it was never coming our mains were here. Of course the bill was then wrong 3 times which the waitress seemed to think was in some our fault. Wouldn’t recommend, eat elsewhere if you’re staying at the hotel.

As a guest you are turned away even though the restaurant was empty and instead sent to the in-house snack bar. Hospitality is non-existent here and I will not recommend this restaurant. Nice atmosphere with beautiful view)

La Vista was really nice! We actually showed up not realizing the restaurant had changed and to be honest it was a pleasant surprise. The food was lovely and my son and I were able to have gluten free pizza which was exciting for him. The scenery was beautiful as always. I can’t forget to mention the attentiveness and kindness of everyone that worked here as well. We will definitely be back.

Dirty Tables AND a mandatory tip. When I asked about why the tip was mandatory the Head waitress argued with me about why I had a problem with the numerous empty glasses and empty plates we had stacked.

Lovely views over marina into loch Lomond. Mussels, wine and tiramisu were delicious. Pasta came without toppings but otherwise lovely

We came here to celebrate a birthday. There were 10 of us. The staff member who served us was just a young girl but not very pleasant or friendly. We waited a long time for the starters but when we had the mains, 1 main was missing. Because no one came to check how the food was or if we needed anything else, they never realised the dish was missing. We waited far too long for drinks and when the missing dish finally arrived it was burnt and dried out. The place was awash with staff, but the service was very poor. When you visit Cameron House, you have an expectation of the service you will receive and today it fell far short. We will not be back anytime soon. Verdict: distinctly average food and shockingly poor service.

The service is normal, but the order was taken incorrectly, and I did not eat anything, and the waiting time was long.

We enjoyed our Sunday lunch at La Vista. We shared our arancini and whitebait starters - both very tasty. My husband had beef cheek ragout with papardelle - outstanding, top quality. My pistachio canollo was also very good. We felt welcomed here, and service provided by Jennifer was flawless, such a sweet person ❤️ Thank you guys 😊

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! We booked a table for 8.30 pm on a Monday night for a party of 3 adults and 3 kids. When we got there we were made to wait 15 mins for our table, which could've been acceptable. However, that was just the start for what would turn out to be a horrible experience, instead of a nice family meal. We waited till about 9 and then had to ask for someone to come and take our order. After having ordered at about 9, we got no food till 9.40. Then we had to chase 3 times to get a crumb of food. Meanwhile, we were offered no information, no update, not so much as a Bread basket, despite being there with 3 kids who had been waiting for more than an hour for their food. We had to chase the staff at least 4 times to get any food. We finally got one kids starter and main at 10pm AFTER A 90 MINUTE WAIT. The food and service was all over the place. 2 kids got two small portions of Spaghetti Carbonara and an adult got a large portion of the same. When they arrived, all 3 looked exactly the same. On asking, the staff insisted that 2 were small and 1 was large. While we were eating, no one came and asked if the food was OK or if we needed anything further. This place needs to avoided at all costs especially if you are visiting with kids!!! However, the manager and the server were apologetic whenever we approached them. The manager did knock a fair amount from the bill, which was appreciated.

This in my opinion is an improvement on what was here before. Food is good without being great but again has improved. Just not enough space or tables which baffles me having taken the time to update and upgrade.

Nice location. But was not very happy with the dinner menu. As it’s limited and no much variety is there.

The food was average, pollo pizza was good, the green Napoli pasta was good, the pasta with fried chicken and the margarita was average, and in the appetizer, the small rips and the garlic bread were average to good.

La Vista is a fun experience at the Loch Lomond marina. However, while the wait staff is friendly and conversational, the service was very slow. The food varied in quality and taste. The Pollo pizza was rather good, and the artichoke, whitebait, and focaccia appetizers were wonderful. The asparagus pasta was unfortunately not great.

Shocking service as always. We have been patrons of Cameron House lodges for over 25 years and the service here never improves. It was not busy, we waited 30 min for drinks to be brought out for the wrong ones to come. We had to remind them we ordered these drinks twice. They charged us an extra 4 fillet steaks on our bill!!! 😡 The interior is nicely decorated however ruined when you go to the bathrooms which have no toilet paper, smell and bins over flowing.

Could do a lot better. Been waiting 1 hour+ . Still not asked if we want any other drinks finished the first ones we got. Had to chase the food due to the wait. Had to ask for a steak knife. The table is full of plates a little too long. £26 service charge, what a joke for plates still sitting in front of me. Just No. Got up and went dirty plates still on the table. Food was the only good thing and views. 2 hours been sitting in far too long.

Had been a couple of years ago and it was perfectly fine, but the recent renovation and menu change is a real improvement. Food was great, chilled atmosphere which still felt upmarket and no faults with service.

An awful experience here for coffees and pastries. The service was terribly slow with staff always standing around looking like they didn’t know what to do next. We waited at least 20 minutes after ordered for our drinks to arrive and had to remind the staff for our final 2 coffees because they never arrived, everyone else had long finished their drinks. When the staff came over they did not apologise and rather made excuses. When our pastries finally arrived, the wrong ones were brought to us, it was as if the waiting staff had no idea what they were serving. Overall it was a disappointing experience with not being able to deliver a coffee and pastries order at the same time. The least that I would expect in this scenario would be an apology but I even had to ask for the service charge to be removed from the bill.

Disapointing experience overall, but the biggest shock was the Starters. Serving soggy pieces of torched Hovis loaf as "Bruchetta" in a restaurant in the grounds of a 5 star hotel is NOT acceptable. The restaurant setting is nice and the views are lovely but it was being run by staff who would have been out of their depth working in TGI Fridays. Table booked for 19:45, seated at 20:10. Long wait for drinks - several ingredients for cocktails unavailable. Long wait for starters. 2 options unavailable. Long wait for mains. 2 options unavailable. Didn't bother with deserts. 3 out of 5 options unavailable... Also, the menu online is not what you will be presented with in the restaurant. Your options are far more limited. If they are even available.

I was a little disappointed last year when I visit the resort every year. Had an upset stomach after the soup in general. This time out of 5 of us attending I can commend the service which is great. The staff are awesome and so accommodating. The food however has a little to be desired. For a boathouse they have removed a lot of their seafood dishes in the last couple of years which seems strange right? The pizzas are amazing and highly recommend if your in the mood for Pizza but most other things tried on the menu were a bit lacking. Dry cold chicken in the ceaser salad, which was also slightly chewy just to mention for a start. Broccoli starter is a bit bland in general and the scallops were ok but nothing special. I honestly just miss the first time I visited here about 3 years ago when we had steak and lobster etc. All cooked perfectly and amazing. Just went downhill now and not really value for money in my opinion. There's a McDonalds down the road that I might rather head to now.

Disappointed. We visit twice a year and this will be the last visit to the Boat House. We had: scallops; chicken wings; soup; torched brocolli for starters. All nice. 2 x chicken caeasar salads, and 2 x pizzas. As lodge owners, we had a buy one get one free pizzas. The chicken added to the caeasar salad was cold and dry. There were an excessive amount of croutons. The pizzas were nice but, when paying the bill we only got either 20% off our total bill or the buy one get one free on the pizza. Shocking. Do not mis-sell us. We feel robbed and won't be back. For a bill of £300 for 4 people, I want to feel fed.

A beautiful place with an excellent service

Booked this place for 8 people to celebrate a Graduation. Off to a bad start, no-one greeting guests at arrival and was left standing for at least 5 minutes before a waitress who seemed to have an attitude finally showed us to our table. Service was ok to start with taking drinks and main meal orders reasonably promptly. However when the drinks arrive there was an extra drink that no-one had ordered. The main courses then arrived in dribs and drabs with at least 10minutes(possibly longer) between the first dish arriving and the last one, by which time the fist dishes had cooled noticeably. Food was ok but nothing special. Make sure you check the menu and prices before you go as the costs can quickly escalate. Also we had one guest who likes to enjoy their food and takes their time eating it. This didn't stop the staff clearing the rest of the table leave this one individual still eating, felt completely inappropriate and a clear sign to get a move on. Ordered desert which again was ok but nothing special. Then the fun of trying to get the bill and pay for it. Our original waitress seemed to have disappeared and finally managed to attract a member of staffs attention from the opposite side of the room. Asked for the bill and eventually someone came over with the bill then walked away. I assumed that they were away getting the payment reader but no. Had to finally flag down the "Manager" and asked to pay. He did return with the card reader at least. Spoke to the Manager on the way out and expressed our huge disappointment and clearly stated that this would be our "FIRST AND LAST TIME". He offered an apology but by that time just wanted to get out of the place. No I would not recommend this place!

Popped in for a nice group lunch on the Loch. The staff were very kind, prompt, and took great care of us on short notice. We were lucky enough to have a window view which was lovely. Every meal was really nice and theres a good variety of food to cater for everyone.

The Boathouse is a very modern, clean and lovely place to eat. I took my husband for his birthday and we had delicious olives, an excellent steak and tasty fish and chips. It was quiet when we went and the service was excellent - going at 12pm midweek seemed like a good time. P.S the fries are out of this world! As a haiku: Such a feast for two, Steak sizzles and fish delights, Noon's sweet solitude.

Friendly staff and a great standard of service. Great food and a nice atmosphere. The location is stunning with views of the Marina and Loch Lomond. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Ok starters. Bland, lukewarm and greasy fish and chips for mains. Very slow service with only a few customers. One pleasant waitress and one less so. This place should be so much better

The atmosphere was nice and the food was decent. The Caesar Salad was ok, but not the best one. The lettuce was a bit drained in dressing but a lot of anchovies that was great. The real bummer was the dessert. We ordered the cheese platter which was said to be big but it was only 3 types (and stuff did not explain what types they were). We waited a very long time for it (I'm sure they forgot, because when a different waitress asked if we wanted anything else and we said we're still waiting for the cheese board we had ordered, she came back very quickly with the order). Unfortunately the cheese was very cold, probably right out of the fridge, which reduced the taste. Overall the restaurant was pretty cold (we didn't even sit next to the window). It was a bit of a underwhelming experience and I wouldn't come again. Compared to how nice Cameron House is, this place does not live up to the standard (and don't get me wrong the food can be simpler, this is the vibe the Boathouse is going for it's no fancy dining but the service and quality of food, the way it's served should be better!) When staying at the Cameron House, the Clubhouse was a better dining choice.

If you are looking for a great dinner on an even better location then you really should go for The Boat House at Loch Lomond.

Absolutely loved it, what a great family facility, dogs were allowed in, which is fine by me but some were up on sofa! And I feel lots of people coming along afterwards would not be so happy taking lots of dog hair home.

During our stay at Cameron house, we wanted to try every of their restaurants. So we went to the boat house, asking for simple linguine aglio olio. One order was (the worst) pasta aglio olio we‘ve ever tasted, the other order got messed up and was served with cream sauce (my husband is lactose intolerant, what I mentioned in the table booking) and with salmon (which I really do not like). So we had the choice between wasting food or eating something we did not order for reasons. Further, the pasta was completely overcooked, the chairs had better days as well as their cushion and the service was unmotivated and inattentive. Not the experience we‘ve hoped for.

Stopped in for a drink and some food after Dog show. Got great service from lovely Fiona. Sat outside and views were stunning.

Location and interior are lovely. Staff are nice but actual service is atrocious - waited nearly 45 minutes for two chicken Caesar salads for lunch. Great variety in the salad (bacon, croutons, anchovies, soft boiled egg) but sauce very overpowering so probably wouldn’t order again. Also extremely expensive - asked to take service off and was only after getting card receipt that I realised they didn’t. Didn’t have energy to get the refund as bad already waited 20 minutes to get the bill!!

Bright, casual dining, and bar in lovely location. Food was fine, but soup wasn't the vegetable broth l expected & my pizza had a very tough base. My wife's fish & chips was far tastier. Staff were pleasant, but not overly attentive. (I ordered an extra portion of fries, they never materialised, but I was charged. However, this was deducted from the bill.) Having mentioned all the above, we did enjoy our late lunch and afternoon at the Boat House.

Relaxed and welcoming ambience on the shore of Loch Lomond

This one is better than 3 but not a 4. Pretty location with views of the Loch and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately this restaurant at the Cameron house is similar to the others in that it is short staffed. The wait to order and be served was too long. Fish and onion rings were very good. Heavily battered (to be expected) but not greasy. The Caesar salad was good but the anchovies were the prominent flavor so if you are not a huge anchovy fan might want to order it without them.

Lovely place overlooking the Loch. I had the poached pears which were very tasty. Staff friendly & helpful yet very professional.

Food was shockingly expensive for what it was. "Bruscetta" was actually mushroom on toast with a poached egg?! Steak was tough as boots but costs over £30. "Jumbo" chicken wings were scrawny and cold. My mocktail was £8 for what is basically a glass of fruit juice (still half the price of the actual cocktails). We told the staff we were unhappy with the food but were just told they were "sorry we felt that way". 2 stars is generous for what ended up being a disappointing meal which cost me over £200! I do not recommend this place at all, save your money!

Beautiful location. Lovely decor. Slow, disorganized service, overpriced food (especially the pizza!) and drinks. I had the fish & chips - fish was delicious but the peas were raw.

Casual atmosphere down by the marina. Some of the best mussels I’ve ever had. We ate at the Grill the previous night (also at Cameron House) and this was far better and much more reasonable.

I go to the Cameron lodges every year usually eat at the boat house but this time 3 different days we were told there was private functions on Friday there was no more than 20 ppl in the restaurant & was told it was a private function & we couldn't get a table a found this a complete joke won't be back totally disappointed

Visited earlier this year and it was great! Had lots of gluten free options for our son who has coeliac. Very disappointed as they did not have many gf options anymore? Even though we were told that they do. The food was almost an hour and cold. Steak was very chewy and the knife wasn't sharp enough to cut it. The cod was bland with a tiny amount of sauce on a bed of chewy Pak choi, all for £18! It used to be a nice place to eat but for the prices it was a real disappointment. Such a shame.

I took my wife and sister recently for a meal and found the price expensive for what you got and the food bland also few options for vegetarians l won't be back

Had dinner at this place yesterday and their sea bass fillet was awesome. My son wanted a second serving.

Food: 3 stars The food is pretty good. Some stuff appears to be frozen and package drawn but a myriad of seasoning seems to fix it. Some food is however bland and, according to my dining partners, flavorless. Service: 1 star You better clear your evening. We dined 2 nights in a row and the previous night we were approached no less than 5 times with incorrect meals and waited an excess of 1 hour(about an hour and 45 minutes) for our food only to wait an additional ~30 minutes to pay. The kitchen staff move slowly and the waiters appear understaffed. Please ensure you are willing to wait a long period of time to eat. Atmosphere: 3 stars. Generally quiet with an amazing view of the loch. It's pretty good but the atmosphere is slightly tasteless. However it's all in all average hence the 3 stars. Overall: The boat house is a decent place to eat provided you are willing to wait a while. The wait is not a constant but it is a sure possibility. The food is good but not 5 stars, if you want that? Go to the resort. All in all it's a decent dinner place with some quirks that, if fixed, would allow me to change my review to a 5 star.

Have used the boathouse several times over the past few years but have never found the service to be so bad as it was yesterday we arrived without a booking but asked for a table for 4 manager said he could fit us in within 20/30 mins we agreed and waited in the bar for the table ,after 45 minutes we went in search of a staff member to remind them we were still waiting. We were finally shown a table the restaurant was nearly empty we still waited nearly an hour for four mediocre burgers and a very expensive bottle of not very good wine .Having been members of Cameron House and still have boat mooring at the marina ,doubt we'll be back
