The Big Fish in Stroud

Was in Stroud for a mooch around the Antique places. Fancied Fish and Chips, came across this little place tucked away out of the main shopping centre. Had large fish and small chips which was £11 which is about what you would pay anywhere. The fish was a good size and cooked to order and the chips also freshly cooked, it was a lovely fish & chips, one of the better ones that I have had. Would definitely visit again if in the town.

Went to Big Fish on neighbour recommendation, wasn't disappointed. Nice fish , monster large chips and a nice curry sauce. Knocks spots ofy local chippy at other end of town. Good price too , £16 for large Cod , large chips , large sausage and large curry sauce. Perfect to share with the wife for supper. Jolly , friendly and polite staff as well. Will be back 👍

AMAZING! On every level. The best fish and chips by far. Owners are lovely, portions of chips superb and delicious, fish fab.

I bought two portions of fish and chips yesterday, one regular and one small. The batter was awful and the fish was dry. It cost 18.40. Never again! AVOID

During lockdown 4.0 we decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway dinner and were so pleased to come across 'The Big Fish' takeaway! :) We ordered a large chips, (which was easily enough for 2 adults + 2 hungry teen boys with big appetites!) The battered sausage was spot on and my husband said the Cod was the best he'd ever had from a fish shop! Southern fried chicken was very nice too! Summing up... Great value for money all round, piping hot food delicious & cooked perfectly! Would happily recommend to all! :)

I use at least once per week food is always hot well cooked and good value. Chip portions are huge everything I have tried has been good.

i bought large cod chips pattie large battered sausage curry sauce every thing was cold when i got home it tasted like it was cooked dinner time will never use that shop again 26/11/19

My battered sausage is manky, I got given the wrong change and no salt and vingear even though I asked twice do not recommend.

A first visit as was in the area. Friendly service. Quick. Invariably I always seem to end up with far too many chips. Will I ever learn. Felt it was a tad expensive but then realised I was buying for five - plus if I cut out a couple of portions of chips then was probably jolly reasonable TBH.

Chips always fresh, fish good, staff very friendly. Portions are a good size too. If only they did tinned roe in batter and gravy they'd be getting 5 stars.

Very dry fish with uncooked batter!!!!!!! But super friendly staff,very welcoming, parking was easy, a bit out of the shopping area

What can I say. Lovely staff, huge portions and lush chips. Enough chips in a large to feed a family of 10! Always consistent. So friendly. Our local haunt. Love a chippy tea from here.

Love this chippy has to be the best one in Stroud. Love the meet patty's from this place. Just a shame they don't always have them

We have been going here for several years. Always high quality and very good fish. A fantastic deal is the OAP (senior) fish and chips; just ring up to order before you go in. The lovely jolly lady even knows my voice now!

First visit here. Very friendly service. Cod, steak/kidney pie, chips and onion rings very good. Batter was crispy and just right. Chip portions were huge and overall not at all expensive. Will definitely go back again.

We count this as our fish and chip shop, despite driving past three to get here. The portions are large,( one large chips does the 4 of us), and the staff are friendly. I do sometimes find the fish a bit on the greasy side, but it's tasty all the same.

Ojalá pudiera revisar la comida, pero nunca puedes encontrar abierto. Leí en Internet que está abierto hasta las 23:00, así que el trabajo terminado en 2200 y fuimos media hora allí y estaba cerrado por la mitad 22. Sin duda el mejor de la zona tanto desde un punto de calidad y valor. Sigan así chicos! Espero poder Comer tu comida de nuevo este fin de semana porque tengo clientes de Brasil que están ansiosos de pescado y patatas fritas por primera vez.

Had fish (cod), cheeseburgers, sausage and chips. Portion of chips HUGE, enough for 4, 2 adults and 2 kids. Prices good for amount you're given. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing seems too much trouble. Our 'go to' chip shop for monthly treat

Won't be back here again unfortunately as neither my boyfriend and I enjoyed the half inch-thick fish batter. Much preferred that other place on the high street, sorry.

Great local chippie, queues tell their own story. Generous portions, friendly service, completely reliable. There are a couple of troll-y posts on here which I find peculiar: even if you don't rate a fish'n'chip shop, would you really slate it so vehemently? Fishy!

The chippy isn't bad but isn't good either.It at least has a official hygiene rating of 5 stars.The people who are giving this place good 5 star reviews are either cheap overweight people or local people that don't get out much...

Finally a positive review from me, Chips were a tad greasy, but still tasted great, Cod fish was amazing, haven't tried the chicken yet, but I am sure it will be amazing.

really cheap but taste amazing! The only issues are when you get there first in afternoon and you get some of the harder dry chips from lunch. - i assume. in the interest of objectivity this is not confirmed but always seems to be the case. Fish is always fresh tasting and perfectly cooked.

Takeaway fish & chips, with mushy pea fritters (favourite all round) - excellent quality and enormous portion size - 1 large portion of chips was more than enough for 3 adults and 1 child.

Fish and chips for lunch. We had 2 x pieces of fish, 2 x pea fritters, cheese / onion fry it and shared some chips.My favourite bit - mushy pea fritters. Lovely.Wouldn't have fry it again.

a little trick for you lads out there to get the ladies, buy them chips from the big fish!!!!!!!! when I've had a good day building with the lads I pick up some chips on the way home for my wife. when I buy them from the big fish she absolutely adores it and I can see why, the cod is lush!!!!!!! its tender and succulent and just what you need after a hard day at work. and best of all... MASSIVE PORTIONS.

Absolutely the most greasy disgusting thing I have ever paid for. Staff didn't appear impressed when I ordered plaice (he had to put his phone down). twenty five minutes later I was handed my order. When I got home the grease had already soaked through the paper. It was as bad as it looked - NEVER AGAIN!!!

When my wife was pregnant one of her crazing was chips and gravy so we had tried every fish and chip shop in the Stroud area - these are the best. Tasty chip, large portions and fluffy batter on the fish. What more do you want.

I have used the Big Fish for some time, the portions are more than generous - One standard portion of chips will easily do two people unless you have an enormous appetite! Well cooked food, and never had cause to complain.The staff are friendly, happy and smiley and this family affair shows what people can achieve when they pull together. All round - a great chippy.

We phoned with a a large advance order for 14 hungry glider pilots! When we arrived to pick up the order, the food was just being cooked and it look like the whole family came out to help pack it in boxes. The portions were huge! And the value was good. The average portion of chips was about 3 times the size of my home Fish n' Chip takeaway. Only slight problem is this chippie is in a side street with steep parking.

we always order by phone and drive down the hill to collect. the team are always friendly and have our order ready, they even write on each packet so we know who has what. without a doubt the best chippy in town. the portions can be large, so don't worry about pudding! great service, friendly team and great food.

Nice chips, sausages, fish, nice everything. I use the Big Fish 2/3 times a month and you never ever get a bad meal. Service, food and price are all good and the shop itself is spotlessly clean. No matter if you order a large or small portion the amount given is very generous and tastes amazing, the fish and battered sausages are always tasty and the batter is always nice and crispy and just enough of it. Overall Big Fish should be massively proud as they have the best fish and chips this side of Europe

They give you a mountain of chips. I usually have to tell them to stop because I know I won't finish them all. The fish is fresh and tasty and cooked in a light batter. So your fish is mostly fish not batter. Fast, delicious, friendly service. All you could ask in a fish and chips shop. And this is the best one for miles around!

I went here with my Uncle for a pre-season football game against Forest Green Rovers, and we saw this chippy on here and see what it was like, very nice and a generous fish and chip shop. It gives you a mountain of chips even though it's 'small' size chips. Very good for value for money! I would defiantly go here again if Swindon play FGR again.

Having sampled all the chip shops in the area I can say without doubt that the Big Fish is the best value, largest portion size, always with fresh fish & service with a smile

Lived in Stroud 20 years since this place change hands to the current owners the other fish and chip 30 yds away a had so many owners. Best fish and chips in the area also very reasonable on price.

On my second visit to friends in Stroud, they took me to their "chippy" for my first meal in England. All I can say is "wow!". The fish was delicious--not a speck of black, moist, flaky, with wonderful batter. We got a MOUNTAIN of chips and a side of mushy peas and washed it all down with Strongbow. I collapsed into bed a very happy woman.
