On holiday stopped in for buffet lunch loads off choice great value for money me and my husband had 3 courses the food was very tasty and nice and hot the apple crumble and custard was amazing the staff were very pleasant and helpful defo recommend

Wow how much has this place went downhill. Ordered at 21.05 got confirmation email stating they have my order collection 21.25 to 21.40. Arrived 21.30 to be told orders not ready (10 min wait) No salt or vinegar on anything. Got spicy fish....dried out and fish was tasteless. Wasn't hot either . I raved about this place but safe to say . That's it for me neeed ti find another chipper .

Our experience at The Bell Rock was so good that a review had to be written! I’d like to say that everyone’s plate was wiped clean, but that would be a lie …. Because the portion sizes were so big! Amongst the ten of us we all agreed that they made the best chips ever! Everything was so delicious… well, almost everything…. The only reason we didn’t award 5 stars was because we found the Sticky Toffee Pudding exceedingly bland ….. totally lacking in the wonderful sticky toffee taste. Everything else was excellent! I can guarantee we’ll be back!

We have been here several times and the food is always fantastic. My fish WAS NOT swimming in oil/fat which I absolutely hate, never had this here, always cooked lovely and presented well. Perfect portion size, nice cup of tea , staff have ALWAYS been professional helpful and smiling. I feel relaxed and very comfortable here. We will continue to return. X thank you guys.

During a lunchtime stop in Arbroath heading north we were looking for a chippie at the harbour. They were all closed (noting this was a Monday in November) and we were pointed to this place, where you can sit in. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great and at £15 each it wasn't cheap. We do realize costs have gone up especially for food vendors of this type, but costs have also gone up for all of us, and it seemed that all other diners were there for the all-you-can-eat buffet. On the plus side, the service was good and the view from our window seat was of the Signal Tower Museum (which we later visited), pretty cool. Would we return? Maybe for a coffee but that would be all.

I have been a regular for about 20 years. Tonight’s experience may change that. Placed phone order and had to repeat 3 times. Arrived and paid and then waited 10 minutes for food to then discovered it was already bagged and sitting on the countertop. Server said nobody had said I was there. That is probably as the person I paid was chatting to someone else. Fish was not particularly nice and part of the order was missing, despite order being repeated 3 times. Plenty of staff and takeaway very quite. No excuse. I have always promoted the Bell Rock even when ive had the odd average takeaway. Sorry guys but good luck if that’s the best you can do it’s just not good enough.

Fantastic sit down chip shop restaurant with a full menu. Food quality is excellent and service is fairly quick. Cost is very reasonable. It’s not fine dining but it’s best in class for what it is.

I have special dietary requirements as I can only eat very small amounts. I normally choose from the Kids Menu. This evening I had the best Kids meal ever - beautifully cooked fish pieces with chips and mushy peas. The fish was so delicious - very fresh and flaking apart and the crispy batter was out of this world.

I had scampi was fine …waitresses seemed a bit run off there feet no time to chat or anything…hubby had roast beef as It was Sunday shame they gave him some end bits as it wd have been lovely otherwise and a wee yorkie wouldn’t go amiss also better gravy .. even bistro ready made wd be better than what there serving was ok wouldn’t be rushing back

We ordered a fish platter for two and some soft drinks on a recent visit just before closing time. The platter contained about 10 pieces of deep fried fish in both batter and bread crumbs, some unique masala spiced fish and some local smokies, all served with salad, lemon slices, tartare sauce and chips. There was way too much food for two people and was too much of it was deep fried.

I am very very afraid I may soon turn into a …fish supper!!!! If I do ?Then this lovely place would be a good place to be . Really nice ladies greeting us as we arrived. They have a buffet/all you can eat area,but I personally find folks sneaking up and down and piling plates sky high with food a bit …..un-necessary .I became strangely drawn to a man who ate 4 sausages then fish then hash browns,then up for rice then chips…. and then had a huge dish of apple crumble and other stuff and continued to sprint up and stack ‘em high when the staff had went out of immediate area! However our fish and chips was delicious.Piping hot .Lovely clean toilets. We didn’t take the bread 🍞 with meal as way too much butter-just our on preference. All in lovely place to eat.

Ate here again and thoroughly enjoyed it, although sometimes I think I should eat more slowly so I can relish it and not feel as if I am going to explode. Particularly loved the garlic pizza bread and the fact that they're constantly topping everything up. Lovely staff as well. Would recommend.

I write this with disappointment. Disappointment because I’ve always had a good meal here. Last night chips were terrible, only thing I ordered. Greasy overcooked, went in the bin. And I’m not fussy, when your hungry ur hungry but I couldn’t eat these

We opted for the buffet the fish was greasy and hard the chips were hard the pizza was under cooked the deserts weren't much better. Some of the staff and the manager needs some training when we spoke to the woman with black hair she said nothing wrong with the food the manager came and said that he didn't see anything wrong with the food if that's the case why is there so many bad reviews on here regarding the food it used to be good but went down hill now I think they should a new manager and staff

Ate here on Sunday. Food was tasty, service was good however, the environment reminds me of an old hospital/staff canteen. A few fake plants or some nautical decor would make all the difference.

The tastiest fish and chips I’ve had in ages. They do offer gluten free batter but after the fish was out of the fryer they put it right under the hot lamp on the surface absolutely covered in crumbs from the normal gluten filled batter....

Every nice place friendly staff food excellent but overcharged for single mince scottish pie which out of baker shop cost at least £1.50 but I was charged £6.95. I would return but would be more aware of price.

This is the worst food ever, ordered a chicken kebab with salad and sauce… no sauce and chicken … tough as old boots, the chilli nachos was microwaved probably… nachos soft and hardened …. Your having a laugh bell rock …. Do not go here...

I ordered cod in breadcrumbs and salad. Cod was thinner than the breadcrumbs. It was seriously a joke. Salad comprised more onions than anything else. Pizza was chilli based, but it was jarred chillies so salty and vinegary. Base not cooked properly either.

Usually really good and friendly staff however this time was the opposite. Got turned away to start with then waited 40+ minutes for a table. Got our table and went up to the buffet where a staff member was serving, got what we wanted and back to the table. The food was freezing cold and hadn’t been asked what we’d like to drink. Ordered drinks after about 20 minutes of sitting down. Told a member of staff the food was cold and nothing was done about it because she said ‘no one else had complained’ No apology for the food or the table service either. Completely ignored! Very disappointed and don’t think we will be back.

Only chippy I know that do a buffet. Have taken family and friends here and they agree. Soup, pizzas, various chip shop menu. (Spicy fish is excellent). Salad, peas, beans etc Choice of sweets eg apple crumble, home made rice, ice cream machine. Open 12 till 2 pm every day. Very reasonable price. Oh how I wish it was open again.

I ordered a Lunch Box, it never disappoints me. It had so many food to shoose from. The portions are big., and so delicious, especially spicy fish. Definitely one of my favourite. One lunch box was plenty for 2 people. Love it.

We ordered 2 of the lunch buffet boxes to share between 3 people. It was absolutely fantastic! A brilliant selection to pick from and really well cooked. In first box we had - 1/2 garlic pizza, fish bites, mini white pudding, mini king rib, 1/2 vegetable pizza, a full takeaway tub of macaroni cheese, a portion of chips, 2 pots of beans and a large tub of apple crumble and custard. In the second box we had - 1/2 garlic pizza, fish bites, spicy fish bites, mini black pudding, mini batter sausage, a full takeaway tub of chicken curry, a portion of chips, a pot of beans, a pot of mushy peas and a large tub of sticky toffee pudding.We couldn't believe the amount of food we received for £9.99 per box! On reflection, we really didn't need two boxes as we only managed to eat one and had to keep the other for the next day!! A really lovely meal and very much made up for the in-person buffet being closed due to covid. We would definitely order this again! We phoned in our order and it was ready within 15 minutes. We simply drove down to the restaurants car park, called the pick up number and someone brought the food to our car very quickly. Great service!

Ordered my tea through the JustEat app and order was here within the hour of placing it was quite warm so no need to reheat would do so again

Ordered a new for our kids as we had been here previously with success. We had to wait nearly two Hours without a call to explain that they had delivered the items to the wrong house and they had to restart the whole order, no one called us to advise us of this we had to call a good few times to check what was going on! On the last call we were cancelling and asking to process a refund. The manager was apologetic and really sorry! I understand these things can happen. But we got the food! It was the greasiest chipper we have ever had and extremely disappointing! It was cold and a disaster of a meal! We then had to make the kids something else so a waster of money which is tight anyway! And what we though was a treat ended up being such an awful experience. The manager advised us on the first call we will give you a supper with your next order, and then with let call as our dinner arrived advised us our next meal would be free of charge just ask for the manager and we will sort that out for you. My first thought we won’t be ordering again. Fast forward kids really wanted a pizza! So decided that we could use our free meal and get them a pizza and chips meal deal Brilliant £15.99 (With delivery)not as much as our previous disaster of an order! So we thought that would be great and all would be forgiven and forgotten. No no! We didn’t get our order and we basically got told they didn’t have a clue what we were talking about tried to say that the manager wasn’t there at the time. All I got was attitude I have had problems before and they have always been dealt with in a professional manner and never have I been treated like this by a company and a so called manager. Shocking! We will never be back.

We had a superb takeaway in July before the restaurant opened up again. We'd heard great things about their buffet, so opted for a Munchie box to get a little bit of everything. Absolutely loved the spicy fish and the white pudding. Good portions and nothing too greasy.Would definitely recommend and hope to visit the buffet some time!

As a party of three we had the Arbroath Smokie in batter, the Spicy Battered fish and a Spam fritter supper. All were excellent as was the nut Sundae pudding!

Had a lovely meal in safe surroundings, the staff were friendly and wore masks at all times more than I can say for the owners who were walking about and in the kitchen with no masks on not setting a good example to their staff.

First time visit to the Bell Rock and its a big thumbs up! We sat outside with the dog and ordered in the restaurant taking advantage of the Eat Out scheme. I had a breaded haddock supper and my wife had a battered cod supper, we shared a portion of onion rings too. The fish was beautiful, well cooked and fresh and the chips were golden, crisp and fluffy on the inside! The onion rings were just wow! We both agreed they were the best onion rings we've ever had! Amazing food and service and highly recommended. Would deffo return.

This used to be one of the best Chip shops in the area. Sadly, things have changed. We purchased 3 portions of fish and chips, and the all the fish we had been given was overcooked and the batter ruined. The chips were horrible also. Rock hard. The staff are lovely, but I won’t be back for food. Far too much of our order had to be binned and therefore from a financial point of view, it wasn’t good value. As a family we were left feeling very disappointed.

Got a fish supper which was very small fish, and a portion of chips and curry sauce which for £4 was a disgrace as the container was half empty, considering how much chips cost to make, won’t be back.

I ordered over the phone for home delivery and the food delivered was wrong to start with phoned back to get free replacement of food which was very kind but unfortunately nothing special and 3 hours later I was ill with what I ate still not well today and I was fine well before food consumed, so I am sure it was what I ate from Bell Rock. To be honest have always ate in restaurant and never had a bad word to say about food, service, staff etc so was really disappointed this time round. Not feeling confident to go back.

Good warm welcome, tables distanced in line with guidelines, served quickly, food was good i recomend the bell rock smokey, the 7 of us aged 3 to 67 all left clean plates also recommend the deep fried mars bar my kids ate half of it great place for great simple food.

Chippy food should not be served from a buffet server , these places should not be allowed to be open as , full of kids coughing and sneezing, especially after what the world has just gone through

Large menu. Option to have fish breaded. Had breaded haddock and chips. Noticeably fresh tasty fish, as expected for a chippie so close to a fishing harbour.Chips also hot and well cooked. Staff polite and friendly. £7.20 slightly higher than average but uplift justified for quality which outstrips many poorer imitations.

All chips, which are supposed to be cooked in separate fryer away from all meat and fish are actually cooked in the same fryers, so you always get meat flavoured chips or really smelly fish flavoured chips, food is often over cooked, burnt fish, burnt pizza, burnt stale chips, not a place i will be eating from again. This chipper has gone down hill steeply over the last year!

A decent fish and chip restaurant but nothing special. The food is good and staff are friendly enough although they prefer to chat amongst themselves than help customers. I’d recommend to go for the food but you’ll find the same in an fish n chip shop in Arbroath.

On my wife's 60th birthday we stayed in Arbroath for 2 - 3 days and not only dined but often lunched at the Bell Rock too. Such good quality food, in generous portions, with a personalised service, where nothing is too much trouble for the staff, does much credit to Ash & Co. One is never kept waiting too long for the order, even when the place is crowded. The excellent sea-views add to the experience. As before, we will keep coming back.

Went in as a bit of a secret diner. Got them when very quiet and to be honest very obvious the boss was away. Staff joking with each other and answering phone like a joke. Bit of a disgrace to be honest. Good very average. Far better in Arbroath

The exterior and the furnishings are nothing special but the food was very good and the portions huge. A nice family friendly restaurant (which is unlicensed but you can BYOB) with attentive staff. Fish and chips was fantastic.

One of my go to restaurants. Visited numerous occasions and the standard of food never disappoints. The steak, grilled chicken and spicy fish are amongst my favourite dishes as well as their sundaes for a sweet treat. Staff are extremely accommodating, what you would expect of a high quality establishment. I’d recommend to try this place out if you never have, always worth the drive up from Dundee to dine here.

After non stop home cooking over the festive period my wife decided she had had enough and when our two sons visited again to stay over it was decided to order a home delivery. As a change from our normal Chinese or Indian we chose to try the Bellrock for chipper suppers. It proved a good choice , ordering over the phone was easy, delivery was on time , the food was piping hot and tasty and of a high quality. This was the first time we had ordered from them bit won’t be the last.

We often get take away from here and it’s always been good. We ate in and it was poor - not sure why but will stick to take away (saves 8 quid as well for two).

My wife and I dined at the Bell Rock numerous times over the past couple of years. The food is always very good and value for money. The service is fantastic. All the servants are very friendly and extremely accommodating. Nicola deserves a special mention.

Went today to eat at my favourite seafood place on the east coast. Thoroughly enjoyed it once again and would highly recommend! The waiter had a sick trim.

The best fish and chips in Arbroath staff always make us feel welcome a lovely cup of tea with a pot of hot water. Most important it is always very clean and clean toilet, our next shopping trip is a very good reason to visit the Bell rock. see you next week

We re-visited Bell Rock on a very cold day when visiting Arbroath. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. We were promptly serves with our soft drinks and directed to the buffet which was extremely well stocked. The Minestrone Soup was excellent but I was not particularly impressed by the bread offered but that did not spoil our meal. The main course choice was outstanding with something to appeal to all tastes. For sweet we defied our calorie count and had the apple crumble and custard which was superb. We will certainly return to the bell Rock when we come back to Arbroath.

Amazing and fresh quality food with polite and welcoming staff. I will definitely be visiting again soon.

Had been craving fish and chips for a while. Was on a visit from Glasgow and wasn't disappointed. The batter was superbly crispy, the fish so fresh and the chips were proper. Enjoyed it so much. Good service and pricing too. Look forward to my next visit.

Great value at a lunch time visit always a good choice and variety of hot and cold food and the kids love the ice cream machine and all the toppings they can put on it

Enjoyed a visit here for food after spending time at Monikie Park as a family. Excellent service, good quality fish and chips and good kids meals as well incl portions. Definitely worth another visit. Venue a little dated but service and food makes up for.

Kids were treated to a child's meal - sausage, chips, drink and toy. Very fresh chips. Kids enjoyed it and not over-faced.

Myself and my mates went their for a meal for lunch has been fantastic meal ever. The spicy fish was lovely and chips was tasty chips ever. The staff where helpful and friendly of good manners and polite. The Oreo milkshake was fantastic taste ever in my life. I will be back in the future.

Our family group of 11 descended on the restaurant on Thursday evening 1st August for a fish and chips supper. The service and food were both excellent. The fish was as fresh as you would expect and the portions were large. All in all a very satisfactory visit.

Took a friend who was visiting here last week, but oh dear very different from my last review. There were about four other tables occupied on Tuesday evening so not exactly buzzing.

Visited this afternoon with wife. I would say it was rather mistake. Was tempted by "lunch buffet" option. Paid nearly £19 for 2 lunches, regular (but really small) coke (3/4 of ice and 1/4 of cheap coke) and glass of water. Choice of some deep fried, blunt and greasy "things", some doggy salad bar and blunt desserts. Just seen somebody said "best buffet in arbroath". Thats right but also its the one and only buffet in arbroath. I don't think I would ever go back there. Sorry to say but I would really opt for one of the fast foods instead.

Went for lunch at Bellrock with friends, choice was great staff were attentive and professional. Being coeliac always difficult to get a fish supper , but not at bellrock fish supper was amazing , would highly recommend . Will be back next time we visit Arbroath.

With a mix of chip shop favourites, some chinese and a salad bar before a good range of desserts. The spicy battered fish is excellent and you can't go too far wrong with any of the mains. They keep it coming throughout service as it runs out / cools. Good value if you want to have a big meal.
