The Banner Cross in Sheffield

Hired the function room for our daughters 4th birthday. Fab venue & very accomodating. We were able to have childrens entertainment and a disco as well as a buffet. Great service and friendly staff. Would highly recommend

Great sports pub. Didn't try any food so can't comment on it. Plenty of TVs, including a huge one in the beer garden.

It's a good pub if you want to watch sports as there are TVs in every corner and outside. Not really an old mans pub. Beer selection is good with three good handpump beers however the Guinness was very poor the last time I had it (about a year ago now). Packed out when sport is on and on Friday and Saturday. Prices are about average for Sheffield.

I rated the pub 3 stars for the vibe, but that was 6 years ago. Then there was a reply today on my review, with an advert effectively, not addressing my actual review at all, but using it as an opportunity to drop info on all your cask ales and your website address. It was spammy and breached the rules of Google reviews by just placing an advert really as a reply so now it's popped to the top again.

I attended an Inland Revenue reunion here on Friday 4th April 2025. We were served by Benji who was our Barman the whole time. He was so pleasant and helpful .Our drinks orders were properly dealt with .The tables were kept very clean and empty glasses quickly removed. He really helped the Reunion to go off well and was happy to pass the time of day with anyone there. Thank you Benji

Headed to the Banner Cross for Six Nations Super Saturday. We always feel so welcome and the service is next to none. Great selection of drinks to accommodate our large group, and James and Lily who were working on the bar were excellent. Good quality tvs/sound for sport and a nice beer garden outside too. We will always go back!

We held a party in the upstairs room of The Banner Cross pub. Sophie and her team were very welcoming. The upstairs room was a perfect size for our 60 guests. The private bar worked really well too. Would highly recommend for a private party.

I can’t believe I have lived in this area for 17 years and only just found this gem of a pub. The staff are so friendly and happy to chat to you whilst they are serving you. The atmosphere makes you feel so warm and welcomed. Unfortunately in Sheffield there isn’t many pubs left like this so you will be seeing a lot more of me now 🙌 5 stars to you all 🥰

The best pub in Sheffield! We've been going for over 15 years now. Sophie, the landlady and all the bar staff are so lovely and welcoming. We've had both our sons birthday parties here for several years now in their big function room upstairs and nothing was too much trouble for them. They've even helped with fundraising for my eldest too. Fab place, friendly and a proper community spirit & feel!

First time we had been in a pub for a few months, it was busy but a very nice atmosphere.

Sophie Smith, Abra Salem and I loved performing at the Banner Cross last night. Really friendly, helpful staff and the customers were lovely and supportive too. Reasonably priced drinks and a good atmosphere in a convenient location - what’s not to like!

Visited from out of town. Wow what a fabulous time we had. Lots of tv screens for the live sports shown here made to feel like i was in my local. Great hospitality from the manager Sophie couldn't ask for a better welcome and service. Left feeling like I has found a new local when I'm next in the area

Done a nice job with the recent refurb and the service is fine, but the beer selection is a bit corporate and boring. EDIT: In the years since I wrote this, the beer selection has improved and there was a nice range of core Abbeydale beers on last weekend. Please can you bring back the Thatcher's Gold cider though?

Been a regular customer in the Banner for the best part of 10 years, Sophie has given the pub a new lease of life over the last few years. The atmosphere and service is always top tier. Really enjoy my visits thanks guys!

We popped in on our way home on Tuesday night & was greeted by a lovely lady behind the bar, big smile & friendly. Our wine was good & the place spotless. They obviously take great pride in the appearance of the place. Will start to use more frequently as it was great. Thankyou for looking after us. I've not scored food as we didn't eat.

I hired the upstairs room for a quirky hen do and Sophia & her staff were an absolute delight from start to finish. The room hire and staffed bar upstairs was a competitive price (the best price we found) absolutely perfect room and everyone was really lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend this place for its private function room and Sophia is an absolute star. Thank you to you and your lovely staff.

We were caught in a deluge of rain. No macs called in again en route to castleton from Sheffield. Wish we could have stayed longer. Atmospheric on Saturday night. Lovely wine. Friendly staff.very clean

We used The Banner Cross event space for a charity quiz recently and can honestly say they were fantastic! Sophie, the staff member who dealt with our enquiries and booking, was so accommodating and helpful. The room as a great size, really clean, tidy and provided a lovely atmosphere. The staff left us to our own devices when possible but also ensured we were looked after. Highly recommend!

Amazing pub. Beer is kept incredibly well so you will never have a bad pint. They change the casks enough to keep it interesting. And the bartenders are always lovely and a good chat. Lovely management aswell

Lovely pub, always come here with my friends and we have a lovely time. Managers lovely and always make sure we are ok. Great drinks on tap, and in fact i’ve never left sober. Few tips don’t steal quiche otherwise it’ll all kick off, but generally great pub

Visited in 1989 with my Sheffield friend Eric Demer who lived one street over. Had a great time and we were there often over my 6 week stay from Canada. Great place and will always be a valuable part of my memory as an authentic English pub.

Absolutely lovely pub. Great atmosphere and excellent service from the bar staff. A large range of snacks and ales provided meaning you can spend hours and hours here. Would have been 5 stars if not for the ugly uniform. Not a huge problem but made the staff look like Boy Scouts.
