Comfortable seating area. Was unable to order from main restaurant menu if I wanted to sit at the more appropriate tables for working. Quite over priced. Weirdly a few guys served after me had burgers and things from the main menu in the bar area even though I specifically asked and was told no. Maybe a case of members treatment

My favourite part of a menu are the starters and they were very good - all my favourites. We could mix and match from the a la carte and menu of the day which was good and we did that.

Had booked a table. Waited to be seated for quite a long time while several staff walked past and ignored us. Table was dirty and had ash from a previous smoker. Waiter set it with clean cutlery without cleaning it, despite me asking him to clean it - covid? Seems it avoids this restaurant! No idea about hygiene, regardless of covid. People walking around, smoking as they went among people eating. No designated smoking area? We decided to leave. I explained the situation to the new waitress who replaced the previous waiter and she apologised. Some urgent training needed.

We booked for the Atrium for Sunday lunch for my Mothers birthday. We were phoned the following day to be told we had been moved to Terrace Bar and Grill. I phoned back to clarify we would receive the same roast Sunday lunch as The Atrium. Yes was the reply. We went along to an empty Terrace Bar and Grill. Given the usual terrace menu and a Sunday lunch menu. The roast chicken with all the trimmings ( as stated on the menu) appealed. We asked if we could swap the vegetables around no problem we were told. Still no other dinners. No atmosphere for a Sunday lunch. Service was friendly but very poor. Unable to take our orders accurately no apology. The trimmings to Roast chicken was just the vegetables, no stuffing Pig in blanket or cranberry sauce. We were given 2 Roast potatoes a smudge of chicken gravy. 1 carrot and a large mound of red cabbage only. Dreadful. I feel that Woodbury park deceived us by telling us that we would have a roast dinner. What they failed to tell us was that we would be on our own, eating reheated vegetables and roast potatoes which were sat on the side in the terrace kitchen. Sadly my mother’s birthday lunch was ruined. What a very disappointing Sunday lunch we won’t be back.

Ok, so there were issues, big issues! But I've learnt not to judge simply on what I saw on the day and to look at the bigger picture. I took my girlfriend & her parents to Woodbury Park Hotel for Christmas Day dinner as a special treat and regrettably there were big problems on the day, as the main oven in the kitchen failed for about an hour during the start of service. But there is no doubting that the team decided to 'go down with the ship' and fought to the bitter end despite knowing they faced impossible odds. Yes our table was booked over a month ago & menus preordered, and yes our expectation was that this would be a military operation, but in hindsight, this is only possible in the right circumstances. For us, the meal was saved by our wonderful Waitress (Beth) who simply shone on the day, and without her constant hard work and 'I'll die before I give up attitude' we probably wouldn’t have made it to the end of our meal. Beth was frequently spotted (although she didn't know) running back to the kitchen. 5 out of the 8 tables in our area left before completing their meals, predominantly because there were long gaps between courses, of anything up to an hour and occasionally things/details were missed. Starters were great. Mains were ok and unfortunately Christmas puddings were served cold (& therefore were rock hard) in cold custard. Our first, but certainly NOT our last visit and this is because of Beth & the Resort General Manager (Mr C) whom is a consummate professional and gave us an immediate, full and frank explanation of what went wrong and has completely reassured us that although things went badly wrong on the day, lessons have already been learnt and feedback carefully listened to and has shown us that everyone did their level best to rescue the situation on that special day. Okay, so a very special meal didn't go according to plan and things could have been far better on the day, but our day certainly wasn't ruined and having raised our concerns with Woodbury Park, we wouldn't hesitate to return or to recommend them to everyone, because we know without any doubt, that if things go wrong at Woodbury Park and lets face it, there are some things outside of our control, then you can be assured that you are in the very best hands. Special thanks to Beth for all your amazing hard work & positive, can do attitude, you are amazing & we hope you enjoyed serving our table as much as we enjoyed being served by you and hence we tried our very best to keep you going :) but also to Mr C for not dodging this bullet and rightly standing proud in front of your amazing team, which is where any great leader should be. Woodbury Park is clearly in great hands & we wish you all a Happy & Prosperous 2019 and thank you individually for not giving up on our Christmas Day Dinner x

Lovely overnight Spa break made better by a lovely lady named Grace who was working in the Atrium she went over and above to make our evening relaxing. It’s so good to see someone employing common sense and kindness to every customer particularly as there were people with many differing needs that evening and she treated everyone with kindness and exemplary service. Spa facilities were very good and rooms very comfortable all in all very good value.

I have a 1 as couldn't go lower!!! Just had the worst experience ever, I've never left a restaurant so ANGRY in my life!!!! We booked for the pop up cafe, got there and no recognition of our booking, no pop up cafe (even though it's on the website). Sat in the bar area for 10 mins before being told they could seat us (in an empty restaurant). They took our drink and food order, took 10 mins for drink, 20 mins to be taken to our table and 50+ mins for our food to arrive!!!! The bread was dry, my daughter's gravy was like tar and my seafood salad was very bland....we mentioned the bread to the Maitre D but didn't want to risk waiting a long time for a new sandwich. After asking for the bill, a waitress cane over and started clearing glasses that still had drink in them....by this time I was so angry I told her to at least wait until we had gone before clearing away....you can tell by this review how livid I am, I will not be returning and will definitely not be recommending to anyone. I hope to at least get a response!!!!!

We had not been to this Hotel before. We booked up Sunday lunch with a view to booking it for Boxing Day lunch. We ordered a glass of wine and while we were waiting for it to come, we heard a lady on the next table tell the waitress how tough the beef was. We decided to have the lamb instead. The theory being that you can't go wrong with lamb - WRONG! It was the worse lamb we had ever tasted. It was bland, tasteless, grisly and hard to cut. The vegetables weren't much better. The cauliflower cheese was just a mush. We left all the meat. When the waitress came to take our plates, we told her how bad it was and asked her if she could put it up for us to take to our dog - just about good enough for him. We ordered a desert - my husband had the lemon tart, I had the crumble - both were no great shakes. When the waitress came with the bill, she said that we would not have to pay for our deserts. My husband went over to pay and said that in view of the poor quality of the main meal, that he thought we should not pay for the main meals. It was finally agreed that we would just pay for the wine and the deserts. Suffice it to say, we will not be going back. We are just relieved that we tried the restaurant out before booking it for Boxing Day.

Lovely, sumptuous sandwiches, a good selection of cakes and scones were enjoyed by all and beautifully presented on cake stands on a well dressed table. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the sunshine after tea enjoying the view. Definitely recommend for a special occasion. Many thanks to all who made this so enjoyable especially to Toni. At a golf society day we had dinner in the hotel part of Woodbury Parkhotel and golf club. The meal was possibly the worst meal I have ever had. It was a roast. The food was cold. The beef was obviously from a packet rather a joint. The roast potatoes were inedible and some had black areas on them. I ate one slice of carrot and could eat no more because of the taste. The gravy was thin and tasteless. I ate very little of the meal even though I was hungry.

We had dinner in the Atritum as part of a Spa break, although we had contacted the hotel prior to advise of dietary requirments the message hadn't been passed on to the kitchen. In many places two turning up at 8pm on a Sunday evening asking for Vegan options may have caused some disgruntlement, however the staff at the Atrium could not have been more accomodating and friendly. The chef even came to the table when serving our mains to appologise for the miscommunication and explain the meals they had managed to whip up from the stock they had in the kitchen. The meal was superb, tasty and full of flavour and our waitress made us feel welcome, rather than awkward customers!

I recently attended a birthday celebration at the Woodbury Park Hotel for a meal. To say I have come away disappointed would be something of an understatement.Woodbury Park appears to place itself as an upmarket venue however to achieve this they really need to review the level of service they provide the customers with. Calling customers 'mate' when they bring your drinks to the table isn't really acceptable. Why have items on the drinks menu that are no longer available? When a customer asks for a bottle of Bulmers and is told "we don't do that any longer but what we do have tastes exactly the same" and a bottle of cider that tastes nothing like what you had originally ordered arrives it demonstrates a clear lack of understanding and ability from the staff. The carvery itself wasn't too bad other than the Lamb which was very fatty and sadly inedible for some of our party.A word of warning regarding dessert, only order a dessert if you have no plans for the rest of the day. Our desserts took 40 minutes to arrive from when we had ordered them. The restaurant wasn't busy so there really is no excuse for such a prolonged wait but there appeared no urgency from anyone to get the desserts out in a reasonable time. Maybe we should have realised there was going to be a problem when one of the waitresses wanted to take our dessert order BEFORE we had even decided what we were having for our main course!!Woodbury Park is not somewhere I would recommend for people looking for a pleasant meal served by competent, polite professional staff. This is a real shame as in the past visiting Woodbury Park would be a pleasure however that has changed over the past few months where something appears to have changed, but not for the better.

On arrival at the hotel we were directed by the receptionist at the desk to go through the double doors opposite and down a flight of stairs to the Atrium restaurant below. On passing through the doors all I could smell was a sour, sweaty odour and wondered if we were incorrectly going towards the gym. We then saw several men in football or rugby training gear lounging around in chairs several more were standing, chatting. It was then apparent from whom the smell was emanating!A young man then came up and greeted us, gave us menus and proffered drinks. We were pleased to see that the bar stocked Plymouth gin so we ordered gin and tonics to drink while we perused the menu. Another waiter came shortly afterwards and took our food orders.About twenty minutes later we were told that our table was ready and we were shown to a small table against a wall. There was a room slightly off and to the left of the main serving area where even more men and a woman dressed in training gear were being served a meal. One of the waiters came and put bread on the table whilst passing on his way to serving another table and he failed to notice that we had no side plates upon which to put it. I then called the other waiter over and asked for the table to be laid correctly, which it then was. I commented to my husband that presenting a flower in a used screw top jar without a lid did nothing to enhance the table setting as did having no tablecloth. One saving grace was that there were, at least, linen table napkins on the table.I had expected a much higher standard of service and décor and was disillusioned about what I thought would be a nice up-market dining experience!Unfortunately the evening did not improve as these sports people continually traipsed to and fro through the middle of the restaurant, some bare footed and others stuffing their mouths with food off the plates that they were carrying. This is not what I had expected to see in a supposed high class restaurant and it was, quite frankly, both disgusting and off-putting.Our starters came ¾ hrs after we had first arrived and over 20 minutes after we were seated. One can only assume that the slow service in the main restaurant was due to the kitchen having to prepare food for these some 30 + people. Our main courses came 1½ hrs after we arrived by which time we were getting quite fed up. I had chosen the partridge which was very dry and all of the remaining food on the plate tasted very greasy including the potatoes which appeared to have been cooked in old, stale oil. I ate very little of it as the taste and smell made me feel quite queasy. My husband’s rib eye steak was OK but was cut too thin than he would have wished. The glass of merlot my husband had with his meal was very palatable and served correctly at room temperature but my rose was not chilled, merely cool.Neither of us could face eating anything else and we decided to forego dessert and asked for coffees which came with neither a mint nor any petit fours – again not what I expected. The waiter did, admittedly, deduct the price of the 2 coffees & 2 glasses of wine from the bill as the wine was only apparently complimentary if you had 3 courses – which had actually been our original intention - but it still cost £60 and I most certainly do not feel that we got value for money, especially as I had eaten very little. All in all what should have been a quiet and enjoyable dinner for two in pleasant surroundings turned out to be a completely disagreeable experience!

Nice venue for a Sunday carvery for a party of 12. Staff taking orders seemed utterly confused amongst themselves as to whom was doing what. Attitude of staff was very grumpy and almost surly. Had to chase the delivery of the starters as they took an extended period of time. Had orders been taken correctly, there would have been no confusion as to who ordered what starter. Some starters were wrong and had to be sent back. Starters were delivered by staff barking out the name of the starter and expecting people to say 'oh, that's mine'. Carvery selection and quality ok. At no point did staff come around and see if all was ok. Desert delivery poor, same as starter. Had a word with the restaurant manager about my dissatisfaction. As I wasn't the host or paying, I did tell him that some compensation needed to be made available to the host. He apologised but said that staff were not in a good mood due to a long night event the previous evening. Ok, we all have bad days, but the entire team was not providing anywhere near the type of service expected. When our server was queried about one of the deserts that was delivered, she just brushed it off and almost made it seem like an offence to be even asking her about it. If you are looking for a satisfactory carvery, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for a pleasant dining experience without the Woodbury Park premium, go elsewhere.

We went to try out the Atrium. I thought it would be 'OK"... but it was far better than that! We had an excellent meal. My husband had venison and thought it was well cooked. He really enjoyed all 3 courses. I had vegetarian options and was very delighted with the results - varied tastes and textures and great attention to producing a really interesting (but not wacky) meal. My dessert was rice pudding fritters... very unusual but great. They were accompanied by mango ice-cream and other interesting tastes along side. I would really recommend this meal to my veggie friends. Service was friendly and polite without being intrusive.Well done to the chef and kitchen staff. First and foremost I am absolutely disgusted by the way the chef dismissed my partners query when she asked if the Carvery meats should all be sitting in the blood coming from the rather rare looking beef joint...and in light of this if all the meats should be carved by the same knife.... His sullen ignorant remark went well though with the roast potatoes that tasted like they had been reheated, the raw vegetables, (not al dente), the tiny dessert that was treacle sponge, tasted like washing up liquid, but advertised as hazelnut sponge, the indifference to our parties requests for cream with their dessert, none was provided...the drama when we asked to pay separately for the bill - us being a group of friends - they do need a plan bill for when their 'system' goes down. I guarantee we will never go there again, and rest assured friends and family will be warned off a similar experience... This venue ruined what should have been a happy meal with our friends.

Awful restaurant carvery experience! A shame as I was looking forward to it. Arrived to see an almost empty restaurant and after waiting ages; as they were apparently 'busy'-we had booked a table; we were seated. We joined the carvery queue... The Chef was carving all the meat with the same knife and fork! Stood in horror watching him carve beef then turkey then pork all with the same knife. The worst was that they offered very rare beef, which he proceeded to move-around the hot plates as he carved so that it was sat next to the pork and turkey that in my professional opinion should NOT be touching each other anyway. The beef was sat in a pool of blood that the drier turkey and pork was soaking up! I raised my concern with the chef carving saying that surely meat should be kept separately and different knives used, (possible dietary, cross-contamination and religious reasons to be taken into account here surely) to be met with a rude response with direct eye contact of "well 'I' do"!!! That shut me up! I was gobsmacked. I then declined any meat and just ate vegetables as I was with friends so didn't wish to ruin their experience. We ordered dessert... Oh dear! We all asked for cream-none arrived. The rather surly waitress just dumped them down. I had the unfortunate experience of being presented with a kit Kat finger sized 'hazelnut sponge'. We all laughed at it. If I had been told it was made with floor cleaner I would have believed them... It was saturated in toffee sauce that wasn't in the description with a very strange tasting lump of white stuff. I trained for five years as a chef and trust me I didn't have a clue if there were any hazelnuts in it! It was more like burnt molasses. Paying then was fun... We were told that we had the pay the bill for the whole table as they couldn't split it!!! In the end we paid upstairs and after quite a bit of fuss and refusal to pay for people we didn't know; we were able to pay.. and leave :) NEVER AGAIN unless it changes the way it operates as it used to be so good. Even something as simple as 'roast potatoes' obviously wasn't within their capabilities today... They were clearly re-heated! Could barely cut them, they were so dry.

Well what can we say. We visited for the first time tonight following good reviews on trip advisor. Unfortunately it was far from our expectations. We waited for over an hour for the starter to arrive. When it did there was an apology for the delay as they were rushed off their feet - there were 4 of us in the massive atrium!! According to the assistant manager they had a party of 37 to cater for who had a pre-ordered meal booked in another area!! They blamed the wait on the chef!! They were very apologetic and did give us our bottle of wine for our trouble. The food was not good. We couldn't eat all of our steaks as they were full of gristle. Our waitress asked us if we would like another steak. Unfortunately by this time we were well fed up and just wanted to leave. We were celebrating my birthday. This was not a good experience. I would not recommend it. I have tried to contact the manager since to discuss the matter but he is always very busy. I am afraid I just don't like the attitude of the staff, I think this business as got major problems. I will not be visiting again and would not recommend.

A special Sunday lunch for Grandma's 90th birthday - advised in advance to the restaurant but absolutely no recognition from any of the staff - not even a 'happy birthday' greeting. We arrived 4 minutes before our reservation time and even though we could see that our table was ready we weren't allowed to sit down, we were directed to the bar to sit until we were called, involving more walking around with her walking stick for Grandma. We ordered some drinks and when the waiter brought a pint of lager for my husband he put it on the table with his fingers all around the top of the glass - yuck! All except Grandma ordered the carvery roast but her salmon arrived without any warning, the starter plates hadn't even been cleared, meaning that she was left sitting on her own for ten minutes while we all went up to get our food - the chef was outraged that we hadn't been pre-warned. However the carvery was delicious - well-cooked interesting veg, good choice of meats and all the accompaniments. We waited ages for the dessert menu, ages for second drinks and had to ask for the bill finally and when it came, they had overcharged us by one whole meal and 3 courses instead of 2 courses for the others! So service-wise it was a disaster - especially the fact that the very special birthday was not acknowledged in any way at all! Also note that there is no children's menu at all except a smaller carvery at £12.95 which is a bit steep and uninteresting for a 4 year old!

It was like this all night no one checked if food was ok once served. When asked for a drink just took one drink order and walked off did not ask rest of the table if they would like drinks. Looked very miserable all night stood doing nothing. The food was lovely and could not fault it. Table felt not wanted within the restaurant by the staff and left without desserts which was a shame. Visited one evening after using the leisure facilities. The restaurant was busy but not overly so. There was only one member of staff at the bar where you ordered both food and drinks so there was a queue all night. The food is posh pub food and is beautifully presented- I had a chicken and mozzarella burger which was really nice and at £8.95 reasonably priced. However our entire group commented on how miserable the staff looked and how they acted that everything was an effort. One blonde girl in particular actually sighed and rolled her eyes everytime she got asked to do something. This is terrible customer service especially in such a nice venue as Woodbury park. Perhaps they need more staff on so they don't seem so miserable and stressed. Having worked in hospitality for years I know the importance of no matter how busy you are making the customer feel welcome!Sort the waiting/bar staff out and you will be onto a winner, as the food is really good!

Of course you can dress smart casual or smarter its your preference. We enjoyed our unhurried A La Carte meal and had lamb as our main which was truly delicious and deserts were thoroughly enjoyed also I tried the homemade walnut and honey cheesecake which was divine. We were looked after very well and felt special and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good service, excellent locally sourced produce served beautifully by attentative friendly staff aiming to provide the finest dining experience to their guests.I would recommend this hotel for couples, family's, celebrations, wedding receptions and business dining and of course groups of friends, there is a seating area for everybody. There is a small bar area for pre dinner drinks and coffees after dinner with the same relaxed ambience and attentative staff. The menu is apparently ever changing and in harmony with the seasons and the restaurant is award winning. We were satisfied with the portion sizes although if you were very hungry I feel sure they would oblige with some extra vegetables perhaps. We enjoyed a lovely romantic dinner where everything was just right down to good timely spacing between courses to harmonious lighting.

We have been coming to eat in the Conservatory for quite a long time, we are a group of ladies that lunch. This visit we were all dissapointed as the menu was not very interesting, you usually have nice salads, this time it seemed to be all burgers steaks of such like. We all chose the salmon served on lettuce. The broth had not very much taste and the salmon was overcooked. Might be back if the menu changes otherwise we will be looking for a new venue.

With my family I visited the Atrium at Woodbury Park for a Sunday carvery As there were 17 of us we were allocated a lovely private room free of charge The carvery was delicious with a great choice of well cooked, tasty meats and a generous chef carving! There was a brilliant choice of veg which was all hot, well presented and cooked to perfection To top the day off our grand children had a swim in their pool whilst the adults enjoyed coffee in the newly refurbished club bar ( open to all)I strongly recommend Woodbury Park and they definitely exceeded our expectations

A poor meal. We arrived to be directed downstairs by a receptionist who just pointed to a door. Once there we had to work out where to go. The ambience was not romantic as the overlooking bar had a loud, large group. The starter (Tuna) was wonderful but the main course suffered from poor quality meat (fatty steak), eyes in the potato and a sauce that needed levering from it's jar.Dessert was a disappointment. The Alaska was suffering from global warming with cherries hiding stones one would assume would have been pitted. To pay we were expected to queue at the bar whilst the barrel was changed and staff rang around to charge drinks to a room via reception.Sadly a one off, never to be repeated, night.

Stayed here after being sent by the Mercure (they had double booked us). The hotel itself is very nice and we only really had the opportunity to experience the rooms and breakfast (and the late bar). The breakfast was disappointing. Fried eggs left under a hot lamp don't really do it for me. The bacon was flabby and not at all crispy and the sausages were woefully undercooked and anemic looking. I would expect better from a hotel of this standard.

the food was ok but I feel it was over priced for what you got and it seemed that all the staff were extremely young and quite inexperienced

Ate here while staying at hotel, food was lovely & even with our awkward table of 8 that had many different questions and requests all our food came out just how we had asked for it.They did forget our drink order and had to get up and ask for it after 20 mins but theses things happen.Would like to give a special mention to our young waiter called jake i think who was first class.

Visited on Boxing Day 2009 for a birthday lunch. It was our first visit and we would not alter anything about this venue. Easy parking, lovely countryside and views, relaxed atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and wonderful food. It is also reasonably priced and suitable for any age group. Due to our excellent experience we decided to visit again last week to take some elderly relatives for Sunday lunch. There is easy disabled access and upon pre-booking I had asked for a table that would be managable to reach from this access which was all arranged on our arrival. Again we were not dissapointed and had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. We would definately go there again, as would all of our friends/relatives from the previous visit. Recommend the carvery - the Yorkshire puddings are amazing!

Imagine this...you call a restaurant and tell them your daughter is going to celebrate her birthday with her sisters and friends and can you bring a cake that can be served after the meal as a big surprise?...the answer?...yes of course, no problem. You take the cake (13 inch, 16 servings), together with candles etc to the restaurant...meet the duty manager, explain what time they will be there, explain that the birthday girl's sister R will let them know when they arrive, leave them a large container for the remainder of the cake ( the rest for a larger family celebration, parents, children etc when they come back in the evening after the meal)...yes of course, no problem Birthday girl, together with her sisters and friends, arrives at the arranged time...R goes up to the server and quietly announces she is R and they are the birthday party, so really looking forward to the surprise....server looks taken aback, goes to speak to a colleague, both walk into the back...?????? Server returns...asks R to come with her to speak to the duty manager...duty manager says..."There is no easy way to tell you this, we served the cake to another birthday party who came in this afternoon".....!!!!! You can just imagine it...random party celebrating someone's birthday...one of them thinks I'll ask the server if they have anything like a birthday cake to finish the meal...server thinks, oh yeh this must be them and says yes of course we do...and serves up a 13 inch, 16 serving birthday cake, together with candles whilst singing happy birthday to some randoms!!!!...and to top it off, they look at their bill and see that Nando's have given them the cake for free!!! Oddly...we did get our container back...go figure. Real life story???....yep...oh how we laughed......Nando's Princess Hay Exeter...tyvvvm
