Disappointing. It feels like a lovely local pub, but…….. Whilst the staff are pleasant, they are distinctly unconcerned. We ate reasonably well in general but there were serious issues that were greeted with a shrug. I had moules to start and they were perfect, I could not have hoped for better. The problems came with my main. My main was a steak. I ordered it to be “somewhere between medium-rare and properly French rare”. Ie still bloody but have that lovely change of texture when it ceases to be raw- just. I went to great lengths to stress that the chef should err on the side of less cooking if in doubt. I joked about making sure it was not cooked to death and I understood that British people liked their steaks more cooked than their continental neighbours . I said that my steak should be prepared as if it were for a French person and not, under any circumstances, over-cooked. What I received was comfortably “medium”, even by UK standards. It was a minimum of two grades more cooked than the order specified. It was maybe even well-done, definitely solid grey instead of pink. I didn’t ask to send it back as it would have disrupted the flow of the table but it was not edible. My dog appreciated the expensive and overcooked addition to his day. When I highlighted that this was not what I requested, the response was a shrug and “I’ll tell the chef”. There was no apology, no offer to fix, no acknowledgement that indeed I had gone to considerable lengths explaining that this plate of food was precisely what I had asked not to receive. It was a really disappointing yet still expensive experience and I doubt I will eat there again. My dog is happy though! It is very sad to see a place like this get such basic things incredibly wrong.

The Andover Arms, nestled in the heart of Hammersmith, is a true gem in London's bustling pub scene. With its rich history dating back to the 1880s, this traditional public house offers a cozy retreat with a modern English menu that has a delightful Mediterranean twist. Patrons rave about the quality and taste of the food, especially the Sunday roast and vegan nut-roast, which are local favorites. The service is consistently described as warm and welcoming, making everyone feel like a part of the Andover family. The desserts, particularly the bread & butter pudding and crumble pie with berries, receive high praise for their generous portions and delicious flavors. Whether you're a London local or just visiting, The Andover Arms on Aldensley Road is a must-visit spot for an authentic British pub experience.

I cannot recommend this lovely pub enough - they've given shelter from the storm countless times, provided a delicious drop and a glorious bite to eat! The service is outstanding, filled with delightful, interesting people who, in my experience, go beyond the extra mile to look after you. Never tasted a better Guinness anywhere else. I've been lucky enough to eat here (several times) and my god, THIS was what i call food. You can taste that a real amount of care and detail goes into the menu items. (I always get the chocolate fondant!) Overall, I know where my favourite pub in London is - Its here. The Andover Arms. I cant wait to go back. In fact, Im probably about to head there to now!

Long story short, it seemed to me that I was served whatever food was left and shoved into one plate to charge me £23 which I found disingenuous. I literally wasted £67, two roast dinner and two drinks. Do not recommend this pub for a meal at all. The service was very nice, everyone was polite, friendly and professional. I visited here on a Sunday evening, around 17:30. They literally didn’t have anything we wanted at that point, even dessert, which was totally fine as I knew it was pretty late for Sunday roast. However, the whole experience was way worse than I anticipated. First of all, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of meat, the beef had quite a bit of gristles (I mean A LOT relative to the portion size). On top of that, one of the slices had large fat so literally the edible part was very little. It was really tough to cut (impossible with the most useless knife ever in my entire life) and very dry on the edges. The cabbage…it was awful. Literally impossible to consume. Even in the photo, you can tell how hard it was. Why did they even serve something inedible on the plate? The potatoes….OH MY GOD. This bothered me the most. Literally the potatoes were as dry as left over chips from a previous day (literally), but with a THICK BURNT bottom 🎉 Had I even had an experience where I couldn’t cut my potatoes at all? Not until this occasion. Literally speechless. Yorkshire pudding, it was like frozen ones. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. I would be surprised if a professional chef made it. They didn’t bother warm it up either, a cold dry puff. Gravy, literally meh. No flavour or depth, not salty enough for me when the meat wasn’t properly seasoned. Very watery. I genuinely don’t see the point of coming to this pub for a meal when there’s a way better, maybe one of the best gastro pubs just around the corner. I’m sorry but it’s just unbelievable…the audacity to serve such poor quality food. Very unprofessional and way too overpriced for such poor standards.

Persistently permits patrons to drink and talk outside very late at night in this quiet residential neighbourhood. Right now it is after midnight and there are customers outside talking and drinking, doubtless in contravention of the licence. Other pubs restrict outside drinking after 10pm to avoid disturbing the neighbours. This pub's neighbours have to suffer waking children and noise.

As far as food goes, I ate the oysters and octopus (fresh and well priced) then a hefty burger, not over-cooked as many are in these parts. Landlords even passed through while I sat near the bar and seemed to have an awesome village vibe going on with the locals. A welcome antidote to the managed houses I come across far too often. After a solid first visit for Sunday lunch, our follow-up appointment was rather disappointing. By 1:30pm on Sunday the kitchen had run out of pork, so a number of our party had to choose alternate options. When the pork did arrive it was an end-piece that was 90% fat and had to be sent back. No professional kitchen should have put this on a plate. The Asparagus salad contained an avocado (one of the main ingredients) that was unripe and inedibly firm, to the extent that it was hard to believe whoever had prepared it could have been unaware of the fact. The horseradish cream was notable chiefly for the absence of horseradish, and likewise had to be sent back. I can of course accept that kitchens have off-days and mistakes happen. However, I would expect waiting staff to be able to identify and acknowledge when a table has experienced numerous culinary errors in one sitting, and to proactively offer an apology or some concessions in recognition of this fact. Unfortunately, this did not happen and we found them to be sometimes abrupt, and in general quite disinterested in the issues we had experienced. This did not make me want to rush back. This is a nice pub with a good ambiance, and under new management appears to have high aspirations for the quality of the experience it delivers. However, the food and the level of service cannot continue to misfire at the same time if it hopes to realise these ambitions.

Extremely disappointing. We came for a Sunday lunch and the only option beside roast was fish and chips. They wouldn't make mash for our toddler. We ordered roast beef and needed a steak knife to cut it (one third we couldn't eat at all). Gravy was just water and roast potatoes as hard as rocks. Wine selection minimal and quality poor. Yet we were charged gastro pub prices (23.5 for the roast and 8-9 for a medium glass of wine - they don't even do large). It was freezing cold and they had run out of 3 out of 4 dessert wines on the menu. For the locals and regulars to the OLD Andover, with top quality pies and roasts (including an amazing lamb shank that would melt in your mouth), lovely wines and generally good variety, high quality food... just DON'T come here again or you'll be highly disappointed. Staff were very nice, bless them.
