Well we're do we start,i thought we would give this chippy a try,but how wrong was we,firstly I paid for a large chips and got more of a small bag,I asked for a portion of potato fritters,and after waiting 20 mins they forgot to put them in and all I was Getting as a reply was there nearly done well obviously they weren't,by the time they were done the chips were stone cold after being left under the heat lamps for the whole duration I was waiting,on the plus side if u call it a plus they added 2 extra fritters,which the batter wasn't really fully cooked,and the customer service was shocking, u get more smiles of a wet kipper than the staff behind the counter,to busy showing there phones to each other,,bit of advice if u don't want to smile and be at work to your customers, leave the job,I can honestly I won't be returning to the acorn chippy,

One fish was fine the other tiny and broken in half, chips were old and not very warm, was handed box of fish and bag of chips by the time I got back to accommodation my top was covered in grease, staff didn't even know if the burgers were fried or grilled and seemed more interested in catching up on their social lives than paying attention to customers.... disappointed as was looking forward to holiday treat 😔😠

Prices have recently increased to £11.50 but my fish portion had decreased!! Very poor value and because it's in a cardboard box you don't get to see exactly what's in the box before you leave the premises. and because you have to queue outside you don't get to see the fish before ordering It's bit of a lottery.

Phoned order through but still had to wait 30 minutes for food to be cooked when arriving at the Acorn. Food extremely salty on all 3 meals, chips overcooked and fish disappointing, very small and not a lot of meat on them. I understand they were short staffed that day which is hard but it cost over £30 for 3 meals, complete waste of money. Won’t be coming here again unfortunately.

We thought we would give this place a chance despite the poor reviews on Tripadvisor...but unfortunately the reviews were pretty accurate! The chips were very overcooked, breaded plaice was rock hard and the battered cod looked anaemic. Waste of money.

Have always used this chip shop if we have been in Borth, had some food from there a month back it was very good, but called in on a Thursday t-time in August and was really unimpressed. The chips were overcooked, the onion rings (a very small portion compared to previous visit) were not crispy at all and our daughter did not enjoy the beef burger at all. And whatever happened to service with a smile, the most miserable, non welcoming bunch of staff I’ve encountered in a long time! Will try the other chip shop next time.

No problem with the food, chips are always good, but they don't seem to be able to handle more than a few customers at the same time leading to long delays. Too many options on the menu and they take too long to gather all the bits together. Don't know why they do this - it's not as if they have any competition in the area. Forget fast food, this is not a traditional chippy that you can go in anytime and get a bag of chips, sadly.

Chips were far too overcooked, very crispy and pretty much burnt, filled with oil. sausage was undercooked, the batter was so soft it fell off and was like a mush in texture. We have all been poorly since eating here. This is by far the worst chips I’ve ever had.

Really tasty. Excellent size portions. The chips were perfectly cooked; a golden colour with no sogginess and no greasiness. The fish was really tasty with a lovely, light crispy batter. We also ordered pie, sausage, mushy peas and curry. All were great. We thought it was reasonably priced, with the lot coming to about £28. In addition to the usual chip shop fayre, they also offered an extensive menu including GLUTEN FREE pizza and chips, curry and rice etc.

Disappointed with the organisation of the way the food was served, have visited the chip shop only twice but never again as they keep messing the order up. Missing gravy, missing portion of chips, I would not recommend

I’ve never reviewed a chip shop before but the batter was light and crispy, the fish moist and fresh and the chips perfection. The staff were smiley and friendly too.

Delicious. Quick and tasty, best fish and chips in Borth. Fish was large and crispy, chips were generous and well-cooked. Would return.

We were in area, always see queues. Know why now. No organisation in the shop. Our meal was in a bag under the lights for 20 minutes. Then it was realised that the only thing missing was curry sauce, one blaming the other behind counter,. Took it back to car THE FOOD was COLD. We ate some of it. Sick and diorrhea since eating there. AVOID

Food was good, but waited over an hour for takeaway food and the queue wasn’t that long! Seemed to be plenty of staff on duty, but food could not be cooked in any quantity.

Four of us visited. Good process for dealing with Covid restrictions in place was first impression. Three of us had fish and chips and fourth had chicken nuggets. Everyone enjoyed the food.

The food was excellent. Chips crispy, fish no soggy bits, yay. All precautions for Covid in place. Staff friendly.

We popped in for a takeaway after a walk on the beach. Fantastic takeaway - best fish and chips we’ve had for ages. Location is great, food’s great, service was great 👍

RUDE STAFF & RUDE ARROGANT OWNER Absolute chaos at this disorganised shambles of a “business”. Asked to order our food whilst stood in a queue outside. Had to wait 30 minutes to be called in to pay and told to wait outside. Over 20 people stood outside waiting for their orders, which caused me concerns given the current COVID distancing. During the further 30 minute wait for my order, I watched a member of staff smoking inside the premises. Finally called to collect my order only to find half of it had been given to other customers who had been stood behind me in the queue & had given their orders after me. No apology from the incredibly rude owner. I ended up asking for a refund and left after waiting over an hour for nothing. I’ve never written a poor review (see my other Trip Advisor reviews) but this experience was simply appalling.

Having a lovely evening walk and we decided we wanted some chips on the beach. It is clear a lot has been done to manage the risk of coronafeirws spread but still, staff were friendly and maintained good hygiene standards. Diolch am y sglodion neis!

We visited this Chip Shop twice over the bank holiday, great Fish and Chips, good value for money and good safety precautions.

We visited for takeaway a couple of times as a family during our stay in Borth. They are the best chips in Borth!! The fish and roe was fantastic and the batter was amazing. I would definitely recommend and go back when next visiting

Just been to the fish shop (7pm) to find it closed. Said open till 8 very disappointing. No tea now. This is twice this has happened not worth encourageing

We were staying just down the road so decided to get some fish and chips, they have a system and if you are patient they will ask for your order when they’re able and it’ll get to you in good time, there is a system I guess it just may not be clear to everyone..!We had two haddock and chips, the chips were great, so nice and crispy, and the batter on the fish was the same. Had a saveloy too which was cooked through properly, only gripe would be that the pickled onion was tasteless and no gherkins available, but we had silverskins at the holiday let anyway. Would definitely go back when we’re next in Borth.

Fish cooked to order so might be a short wait but well worth it. Fish and chips were well cooked and tasty. The portions were generous and the price reasonable. Well worth a visit.

We bought takeaway fish and chips from here while staying in Borth. The shop was very busy, queued out the door. In spite of this, the service was fairly quick and very polite. The fish was very good, but the chips were probably the best I've had since our old au pair made us some in her Parisian home. It was great value too.

Had sausage and chips. Good portions. Quite good value. Staff a bit miserable though. A smile would not have gone a miss.

It's our choice every time we stop at Borth, and we do that very often. Decent and delicious size fish and chips and a very tasty pizza. I think we tried all variety of toppings. Sometimes long queues, but it is worth waiting.

I remember the Acorn in the seventies when it was a great family run fish n chip shop - queues down Borth High Street - I think the owners were away tonight because the chips (made from decent potatoes) had been refried too many times and were on the verge of being burnt - the fish was also over cooked and encased in a soggy greasy batter - the people frying and serving don’t give the impression that they care a jot about their product.

When I got there a number of people were waiting to the side for their orders & every one of them looked annoyed & I heard them say they’d be waiting awhile. Then waited atleast 10 minutes as the next person waiting before anyone asked my order. They seem very slow & unorganised & didn’t have any cod ready at the time. Then went I got it home the chips were really brown & horrible, the fish batter was pale & soggy. Definitely wouldn’t go again

Proper seaside fish and chips, very nice and reasonable priced. Staff very friendly I would highly recommend this chippy and advice you to sit on the beach 🏖

The chips were very very nice but that was as good as it got. The two fish were actually dripping in oil and tasted wet and horrible. Fishcake dry and battered mushrooms stale and again dripping in oil. Seems a common problem, perhaps try leaving the food longer to drop the oil? A real shame as the chips were really tasty!

We used to come to this chip shop every time we were in Borth but I will never come to the Acorn again!!! First off the staff are so rude, a young teenage girl and young boy on the front of the shop had no idea what they were doing and had a terrible attitude. With the young blonde girl saying how she couldn’t wait to go home and how fed up she was. The boy serving forgot to ask for our mushrooms so we were stood waiting for them whilst everyone else went cold. We waited 35 minutes for our order and we were second in the queue so I hate to think how long some people waited. When we finally got our order home and opened it up it was disgusting. The chips were brown they had been so overdone, they were so dry because of how burnt they were. We had battered sausage and battered mushroom and the batter was raw on both of them! We won’t be returning, which is such a shame because we have been coming here for years.

Terrible fish and chips, once over cooked chips which were now cold, extremely thin and small fish with batter that was not cooked and curry sauce that didn’t even come out of the container when it was held upside down!

Quite possibly the worst chips I’ve ever been served. Order included large portion of chips between myself and two children. I think we salvaged 10 chips that were edible. The rest were dry and rock hard. Always a shame when a chippy doesn’t know how to make decent chips! A young lad came into the shop whilst I was there and offered to work at the weekend and during half term - perhaps Jimmy Krankie is frying the chips???

went to borth for a day out and we called into the acron cafe for some lunch. the meal was very very good and really large portions the staff are very friendly

Wanted to grab a quick and easy tea for the family but we’re met with a less than welcoming lady behind the counter. Just abrupt and not friendly even though we were the only ones in. The food, when it came was hot and miss. Amazing fish and great chips but the pie was burnt to a crisp. Could be better with some improved customer service and less burnt pies.

We ordered for four people, the waitress is all over the place ... she even bought the wrong meals to our table and we pointed her in the right direction. Forgot about the chips.. had to get up halfway through to pay .. awkward

Really enjoyed our takeaway meal form this place in Borth. I had the Haddock and chips which was really nice - cooked fresh. Everyone enjoyed their food. the service was good and friendly.

Used to be a great reliable chip shop on a visiting Borth I looked forward to having my fish and chips from. Alas new owners that can't even stick to the new opening times they post up even in the glorious sunshine. Sad times but I can only see the demise of what was a great chiply for decades. Judging by many others reviews since the takeover it's not isolated with many a reason for 1 star reviews. *Update* It has now become even worse if that's possible, underage children serving on a Saturday evening (peak time), crispy chips resembling chips and the grease off the chips and fish from the palm oil could lubricate a machine shop.

Grabbed some fish and chips after our arrival in Borth. Food was good and well priced. Only criticism would be that the shop appeared to be manned by what I could only describe as a teenage youth club! The service was a little laboured and slow as a result.

We have been getting chips from here for years, we love to just nip over the road and sit and eat them over looking the sea, never had a bad meal here, love the sausage n chips, roe, cod etc. Good prices as well, nice to still see cone of chips and wooden folks. Great service as well

Busy all the time which indicates how good these chips are. Good value and friendly staff. A cone of chips is a quid so i had a cone on the way up the street and a cone on the way back down.

Excellent food at very reasonable prices , staff friendly & efficient. Opening hours a bit bizarre, they close before the pubs close! (9pm bar Sunday 8pm).

Peces pequeños y chips, primero fuimos a uno por la carretera pero groseramente dijo que cerraban, así que vine aquí y nos alegramos de haberlo hecho. La comida era buena, las porciones pequeñas, pero eso está bien! El precio estaba bien - pedido de sal y te hice un poco! ! El personal es agradable, pero no puede hacer con un poco de renovación y modernización iluminan (☺ ️ fuera).

100% proper sea side chippy will not disappoint even if your more of a curry or pizza person they do that too. Good prices and service

He estado aquí un par de veces, una vez en junio y otra vez en agosto. Sólo teníamos twke lejos de los chips y nos sentamos en los asientos de metal en la parte delantera de la cafetería. La señora de la cafetería era preciosa y vino a charlar con nosotros por un tiempo. Ella ofreció consejos sobre dónde podíamos ir a la playa más rápido y aunque wed comprado llevar nos dejó usar el baño de la cafetería. Servicio muy amable y la comida era buenísima.

Con el inicio de la temporada inicio dichas United FC que era tiempo para empezar el partido con una Parte para llevar tradicional tarta de café de bellota y patatas fritas. A pesar de que el lugar estaba muy concurrido, con gente local y visitantes el amable personal trabajó duro para minimizar la espera. Máquina de cortar las patatas fritas, patatas fritas recién preparado congelado aquí, no eran de un tamaño decente y la porción "Pukka" de pollo y champiñones tarta fabricado era a la temperatura adecuada y estaba buenísimo. La comida en total 3.50 libras y es lo que yo considero muy buena relación basada en otros precios locales "fish and chips". Conseguí este mezclado con el chips surrey, justo en la carretera, pero para ser honesto, hay probablemente no mucha diferencia entre los dos. Antes dichas, el chip de aceite Carnaval necesitaba cambiar y la comida estaba rancio como resultado. De repente en un día de carnaval, el aceite debe haber sido cambiado y las patatas fritas con informes positivos parecía fabulosa de intenciones. Es una pena que no podía hacerlo antes.

We went for food family and friends there was 6 of us and one of the kids asked for chicken burger and when it can out it was breaded chicken in the plate with no bun was impressed

I took a class of 26 5 year olds to Borth on the train but didn't want the hassle of lunch boxes/water bottles. Rang the restaurant for a quote for 26 child and 11 adult meals - they couldn't do enough to help! The very kind owner and another lady very helpfully delivered our meals to the area my class were on the beach saving a couple of journeys. EVERYBODY loved them - and nearly all of the children said it was their favourite part of the trip! Cost VERY reasonable, taste PERFECT! The only Chippy in the area I'll ever use again! Very poor quality and expensive. Could not understand what they are about looks like a chip shop but seem to do other takeaway ie Chinese etc. Place a bit shabby but clean Cod not very nice and Mushrooms in Batter poor Chips ok i think the whole meal was spoilt by oil which probably was to old but not sure just a sour taste. We ordered to many chips due to misunderstanding to be fair not completely there fault. Not a place i would go back to this was a takeaway. We regretted not going to Victoria Inn there food is really good and not a big difference in price.

Popped in for a tray of chips en route to a Borth United FC home game and was not disappointed. The service was good and the staff very chatty - I paid one pound fifty for them, which by Aberystwyth standards is about twenty pence more - but the quantity, quality and all important taste where spot on - thank you Team Acorn.The takeaway menu was impressive and has plenty on offer for all tastes.

This is a brilliant chippy and you can have an authentic green Thai curry.fantastic.I would tell everyone try their food you will not be disappointed.A family run business with a friendly atmosphere and good food and presentation.

Had fish and chips here on Saturday night ,also had the deep fried mushrooms for a pound they were lovely.

This fish and chip shop really does serve the best fish and chips for miles. Always freshly cooked and very pleasant staff. In season they also do Sunday carvery in the cafe, certainly well worth a visit.

We come here every visit to borth. They are lovely chips an better than their nearest competitor. Not great for value though. For more than double what I pay at home I get just enough to feed my family. I know its a seaside an the menu is a bit on the small side. But still very overpriced. But don't mind paying as you expect this on holiday. Have heard great things about the cafe so will visit next year.

Had a lovely meal. Perfectly cooked and very tasty! Fish and chips are often disappointing- they look and smell better than they are. These were lovely as were the peas.

New. Returned to this chippy giving it the benefit of doubt after scoring as average previously. Last time we visited must of been good because this time the food was vile! The chips were terribly over cooked served in paper (which by the time we returned to the caravan was soaked in grease and disintegrated).The fish which was 'cooked fresh' upon order was described to myself as poor with again tasteless greasy batter. My kids never say no to chips but most certainly turned their noses up, take the drive & go to Aberystwyth - much more delish!

Brilliant food with a very wide range of choice from the usual chip shop menu to jacket potatoes, curries and pizza all at great prizes and all cooked fresh.We've also tried the Sunday cavery and cannot fault it which can be eaten in or taken out.Great place with great staff and as my local chippy I would definitely recommend as the number 1 place to eat in Borth!

Enjoyed fish & chips on carnival day in Borth then sat & ate them on the beach. Have been back several times also on a Sunday for the carvery which available in the restaurant to eat in or take your own plate & takeaway. We have done both & were both equally good. Excellent service from a lovely bunch people. Look forward to our next visit

Had fish and chips, Chicken and chips, all freshly cooked while we waited. Friendly staff who chatted with us while we waited for food to be cooked. Tasty food would definitely use again in the future.There was a good range of food available for a fish and chip shop. Various pizzas and curries available although we didn't try any of these.

While driving past there just happened to be a parking space..... it was ment to be!When we arrived we were the first (but not the last) the service was first class and the food arrived fresh cooked and piping hot. The fish was lovely and chips just right, if you are passing it is worth a stop.....and if your a veggy it's cooked in vegy oil not dripping (Or was at the time of this review).

Very reasonable Sunday meal with choice of meats and vegetables and reasonable priced. We would go back there to sample other items on the menu

Usual excuse that you have to have fish & chips on a trip to the sea side. I was a bit dubious as it was lunchtime and quite quiet inside the cafe so didn't hold too much hope of anything too tasty...however I'm glad to be proven wrong.The fish was huge with a light covering of batter, chips a little bit 'bitty' but good, we were served quickly and efficiently and we found the staff friendly.Huge choice on menu, Sunday carvery available and alcoholic drinks as well as hot/cold soft drinks.

Visited during a four night stay on Borth, have to say the girl behind the counter didn't seem overly friendly. The chips were far from the best I've ever had.

Lovely food, we had a takeaway of fish and chips, pizza, garlic bread, curry and scampi. It was all lovely, generous portions, very tasty and very quick...freshly cooked fish too!Very friendly and helpful staff.

We stopped for fish and chips after walking from Aberystwyth on the coast path, so we were looking for sustanance rather than fine food. What impressed us in this ordinary little fish and chip shop and restaurant was the polite and attentive service from the two young people who waited on us. ~Well done!

Read the reviews and so went to Acorns. Really friendly staff (two young lads). Our food was cooked to order which meant it was lovely and hot. We ordered way too much food for our family as portions were really generous- the fish is huge as were the 'large' portion of chips. Would happily go again but order less food. PS these were some of the tastiest chips I have ever had. Thank you

We visited here on Friday evening for take away, we were greeted by a young lad with scruffy hair (no hat therefore a hygiene issue) literally spralled out over the the chip paper on the counter. He wasn't really bothered that we was looking at the menu awaiting our order and other people waiting for the food. Very off putting, when we walked past on Saturday and peered in you could see the same, like he simply didn't care. The other young man however was smartly presented and very welcoming. The food itself was ok, did the job but had better, they forgot the mushy peas off our order which we didn't realise until we got back to our caravan. A little disappointed as seaside town chippies always have the edge but this one just average! Probably wouldn't return.

Bought 2 large bags of chips and was given absolute plenty! Lovely chunky chips, very tasty, will be visiting again!

Our Sunday school took a group of children to Borth for the day last Saturday and we needed to arrange fish and chips ( or something and chips) for about 50 people. Gary at Acorn chip shop not only managed to provide us the best fish and chips but also ensured it remained piping hot on its journey back to the beach! His prices are competitive and worth every penny. We would definitely use this chip shop again.

You cant go to the seaside without having Fish and Chips, and this place does the best in the area. Lovely fresh cod cooked to order, crispy chips, and the most wonderful home made Onion Rings, topped off with mushy peas and curry sauce, all for under a tenner. Will definitely go back when in the area again. Only downside is they are only open from 5 till 8, but this could be a season thing.
