The food and value are great, but unfortunately the day I went with my colleagues the service was horrendous. There were only 2 girls working the entire restaurant and it showed; we struggled to get our drinks served and had to correct them a few times after they got it wronged. We also had to ask them for a wipe after the waitress spilled hot water all over our table. They also got our food order wrong, and I had to wait for my food after everyone else had been served. I would go again but only when they are fully staffed!

Dined in your Wig & Pen branch on Saturday. Only booked in as we couldn't get a table in your other branches. We had seen the one in the Minories which looked great and online most of them looked fantastic. Were so disappointed when we went into you Wig & Pen Branch. It's grubby (needs a lick of paint) or even a candle on the table, the staff (who were very helpful) but run off their feet as I could only see two women working the whole restaurant floor. The stairs to the toilet terribly steep, stock in crates on the floor and the toilets not the best. Whole place needs a lick of paint. One thing I will say, food was amazing and the girl serving us was very nice and helpful.

We had dumplings and chicken satay for starters, both very tasty. For our mains we had the pad thai noodles with prawn and duck curry. The duck curry was amazing - great sauce and the duck was tender and flavorful. The pad thai was delicious with the perfect combination of vegetables, prawn and spices. Very friendly staff and our server kindly pointed out that the tip was already included in our bill. Will definitely return on our next visit to London.

As vegans we usually end up in an Indian or Thai restaurant since we know there will always be some compliant dishes that we can order. The restaurant is tastefully furnished and decorated. The building is one of the few that reputedly survived the big 1666 fire. There is a beautiful antique leaded stained-glass window with the date 1625, and it is too bad that the inscription of a blessing is mostly hidden on the inside by a row of fake orchids. We ordered tom yam soup, broccoli with garlic sauce, tofu with ginger, green vegetable curry and two orders of brown rice. Eventhough these were simple dishes, they were executed very well, with a perfect balance of flavors and spice. Having had the same dishes in Thailand many times, I can vouch that these were as good as those I had in Thailand. Some previous reviews mentioned that the portions were too small. I disagree. We were able to share the dishes between the two of us and there was more than enough. We ended our meal with the ubiquitous sticky rice with mango, which was excellent. The use of pandan leaf to flavor the rice was a lovely surprise. The rice was also not as cloyingly sweet as in some other places. Definitely worth going back to.

A group of us decided to have a take away from here, what an expensive disappointment! Firstly the portion sizes are embarrassing...you would expect at this cost to receive a bigger portion, nope... they skimp on everything! I ordered a Massaman curry...probably the worst I've ever had...it was extremely watery, sloshing around in the tiny Tupperware. There were a few undercooked hard potatoes & carrots in it and some oddly textured pieces of chicken (maybe 4 pieces). Dreadful! The portion of rice was tiny and the Fish cake starter was like eating a piece of rubber! A tiny piece of rubber at that! The rest of the group were not happy with their orders either! I just had to write a review because its an embarrassing representation of Thai food! I've been to Thailand many times, and its one of my favourite countries...the food is incredible there. Not here! Avoid! One thing I will add is that the service is good and friendly. Thats about it.

Decided to try this for a quick dinner with friends, menu looked good. This was not the reality. Very average, small portions & not particularly authentic tasting - plenty of msg. For the quality and portion sizes it was incredibly overpriced. Service was poor and the general place needed a good spruce up (grubby walls, wobbly tables) Clearly making the most of their location. The bill then automatically had the 'discretionary' gratuity of 12.5% added to it - for our meal this was nearly £22!! (4 set menus & 6 beers) When this was questioned the entire attitude of the staff changed. Will not be going back. Will not be recommending. Overall very disappointing.

This was a very spare of the moment decision to eat here as we were staying in a hotel not too far away. I noticed that this was part of chain a with lots of branches in central London. However, don't be fooled by this. The decor, layout and menu suits a totally independent restaurant. After a few drinks in Fleet St, we were given a very warm welcome and shown to our table. Food and drinks were brought out in a reasonable time. Dishes were tasty, spicy and very freshly cooked. The seafood dish was full of huge mussels and scallops - very generous on the portions! Prices were very reasonable indeed. I was extremely impressed with this place and look forward to returning again when next in London.

My wife and I were booked in at 17:30 on Saturday 21st February 2015 before going to the Savoy theatre for a 19:30 show, after strolling around parts of London we thought we would arrive early. We were politely greeted and seated straight away. After reviewing the menu we ordered drinks (cocktails) 'Inter Thai' and 'Wig & Pen Delight' which were sweet and excellent. The food was also excellent arriving promptly, fresh and hot (temperature). We ordered chicken, chicken/mushroom and coconut soup, pork and beef dishes, all were very tasty including the sauces which were served in separate dipping bowls to the dishes. The spice levels were also accurate reflecting the one chilly rating in the menu, although we did have some water on stand by just in case. The dishes ranged of various levels of spice depending on what is ordered for all tastes. To finish the meal my wife had Jasmine Tea and I opted for Fresh Mint Tea, both were a refreshing end to the start of a wonderful evening. Many thanks to the staff for a lovely meal we will certainly visit again in the future.

I regularly eat at Thai square restaurants scattered around London , but Only recently stumbled upon this cosy little branch just by temple station. Looking from the outside you wouldn't think it to be a Thai restaurant, looked more like building from the 17th century (in a good way) was later informed by the manager that is was a listed building as it was the only building in the area to survive the fire of london (awesome). Back to the food, my wife and I ordered our usual pad Thai and green curry, and it was amazing, the curry was thick and not watered down like other restaurants and the pad Thai was cooked to perfection, the service was also very good, my glass of water never dipped below halfway! Price be expected from a high end restaurant but definitely worth the money. All in all great little restaurant

really a rue advise to everyone, DO NOT go to this restaurant!!!! They are black restaurant who cheat your money!!!! we only ordered one starter and two main dishes, it costed us £47!!! almost £50. the fried rice we ordered suppose to come along with prawn, vegetable, egg and chicken, served with chicken satay and peanut sauce. instead, i only got chicken and egg fried rice!!! when i questioned them, they justified that food price has gone up, so less ingredient is included in the dish !!!! the simple dish cost £8 then another dish is prawn (2nd dish under chef recommendation in the menu ) which cost £14.... what i got is actually FOUR prawns only !!! can you imagine each tiny prawn cost me ard £4.5????? if you really have a lot money to spend, you can simply go to duck and waffles or any other high standard restaurant which gives you a good quality food with good view and service .... REALLY I STRONGLY URGE EVERYONE DO NOT WASTE MONEY IN SUCH RESTAURANT !!!!

Had a miserable meal yesterday in the Wig & Pen. Our veggie starters weren't veggie... so went back to the kitchen. When my wife's (veggie) main course arrived, it was inedibly chilli-laden - chef's revenge, one assumes. My seafood main (£13.95) featured 11 miserly pieces of fish - a starter at best. When the bill arrived, it still had the meaty starters on it (so was another £3 higher than it should have been). Not bothering to query it, and taking pity on the miserable-looking waitress, I still chucked in a few quid over the obligatory service charge as a tip... which she then picked through while peering maliciously at me, as though I'd tried to rip her off. Grim throughout - never again.

After walking in and saying I had a reservation, we were shown to the table but our food and drink orders were not taken for some time. The food was good, but the service wasn't the smoothest or quickest, which was made worse considering it wasn't a very busy night. Although I booked at The Strand venue, I had walked into the Fleet Street venue, which wasn't made aware to me at all.

Good food and service, but they did not inform us that they had a special lunch offer, so we paid twice the amount that was needed for the same food. this is why i would not recommend this restaurant.

This is a lovely little restaurant based on Fleet Street, offering the usual fabulous Thai Square food. I would highly recommend. Always very good vegetarian options.

Went here with a group of friends and had a really good meal. Four of us had the Silver Set Menu which was an excellent choice. Would recommend for service, atmosphere and food.

I booked this restaurant for lunch with a friend who I hadn't seen for a while, as it was near to where I work and neither of us had a lot of time. It was extremely crowded, with tables crammed in, our table being about 6 inches from the next, and very difficult to have any conversation knowing everything was overheard by the next table, just as we heard every word of their conversation. This might have been acceptable if the food was exceptional, and clearly the restaurant is very popular as it was very busy. However our food was pretty mediocre, and the atmosphere was rushed and very unrelaxing. All in all the experience was not what we had hoped for and I would be reluctant to return unless there were no other options.

Thai square is Thai square! its like Thai fast food. The quality is good and the price good, but use it for a quick lunch or a casual meal, not a formal business dinner or romantic meal to impress!!!

Went with a group of five and quite enjoyed it. Service was rather slow, it took fifteen minutes for a server to first show up and take our drinks order, however it was fine after that. Portions were decent without being too large, and unlike many Thai places each of our dishes had a rather unique look and taste. The crispy duck starter was tiny, however, barely fit for two people, which isn't what you want, but all our mains were terrific, and do NOT skip the desserts.

I only work a few doors away and find all the staff really friendly they always have a welcoming smile when I arrive, I've eaten lunch here on numerous occasions and the chicken fried rice is not to be missed. The sea bass is perfectly cooked and tasty. Perfect for a quick lunch.

We had been talking about this restaurant with friends last night so just thought I would have a look at the reviews.I have not been for around a year but have been three times before that. The service was good and the food was excellent, that's why we go back each time we visit London.I would avoid the gold set menu unless you're really hungry, we usually have the silver one.Great Thai food and reasonably priced - I presume the food is the same at other Thai square restaurants in London which have glowing reviews, this one might be getting left out due to its location however we like the walk down fleet street and the restaurants interesting exterior.

Ever since visiting Thailand many many years ago, I fell in love with the food and the powerful taste of the spice used and have tried many of Thai restaurants in the UK.The locationThe location of the restaurant is just to the left of the bridge (Waterloo) from the strand side. it is a few shops along. From the outside it is pleasant and the décor inside is ok, slightly tired but still nice.MenuThe menu is vast with many different varieties available & set meals etc. the pricing for London, would have to say is reasonable. Only gripe I would have to say the menus are boring to view through and need a good clean to remove the stickiness upon themServiceWe have always turned up without booking and they have managed to squeeze us in with not a long wait. Staff are very busy and dealt with us promptly. They took the orders from us shortly after being seated, and in no time the food arrived piping hot.FoodThe food is well presented and piping hot, however from different visits found that the portion size has varied and some with less meat in than others. We had the pad Thai noodles found these to be nice, bland I would say compared to last time. Order the satay chicken for starters, these were not nice, the chicken was tasteless and the sauce wasn't much either. disappointed with these dishes this time, but main course went for the curry (red) this was better. its a shame that some days are better than others.OverallThai restaurant near the Waterloo bridge & Theatres. Have to say not the overall best thai we have visited but average food if in a hurry to the theatres nearby. I hope the standards do increase slightly along with portion control and not rely on the London tourist, one in one out scenario.

The starters : chicken satay - dry and cold. Steam roll, pork and prawn - slimy. Fish cakes: okay but cold. Mains; Green curry - okay. Beef cheeks - meat was dry and tired. Thai minced chicken with chilli and Basil - tasteless and not a hint of basil or chilli. Cocktails : served room temperature. Prosecco served room temperature. £275 not well spent. Disappointing

Basic Thai in busy tourist area. Menu is standard Thai fare but well priced for the area. Facilities all a little shabby but fine. Good portions and tasty. More functional feeding than a dining experience but, as the cliche goes, you get what you pay for. I will be back

This place used to have some absolutely quality pad thai a few years ago but something has tragically changed. I've noticed this the past couple times I've been but today was the last straw. Noodles came out bland as, undercooked or worse -day old. The proprotion of vegetables has diminished, service size has shrunk and prices gone up. SAD

I paid over £40 for a 2-course set menu and a non-alcoholic drink. If you order three courses from the à la carte menu and a drink, expect to pay at least around £65. This is not a cheap restaurant. By a normal person's standards, it's quite expensive. I have had much better meals for less than this. So, about the food. The satay chicken skewers were not particularly hot. They weren't cold, but they were just warm. I also thought that two skewers was a pretty stingy portion size. Other people ordered spring rolls and only got two spring rolls. Again, that is an unusually small portion size. I will say that the peanut sauce was very good. For the main, I had pad Thai. Again, the portion size was small. Please note that I am not somebody who likes huge portions. Quite the opposite - I hate the feeling of being overly full by the end of the meal. However, nor do I expect to have to eat a snack when I get home because I am still hungry! The pad Thai was quite nice, but, again, not particularly hot when it arrived. Also a word of caution about the fruit juices: for the prices charged, I assumed that the fruit juices were being freshly squeezed to order. But no - the barman was quite clearly pouring fruit juice out of a long-life carton. Honestly, save your money and you can buy yourself better fruit juice from a supermarket. Service was okay. Our waitress was friendly. I was confused that I told her that I didn't want chillis on my meal, and when it arrived, there was a small pile of dried chilli seeds/flakes on the side. I don't mean it was in a separate bowl - it was on the same plate, touching the noodles. If the customer says no chillis on the meal, surely they should mention that as standard it comes with a pile of chilli seeds/flakes (which were very hot when I accidentally ate some). I'd also mention that the plates looked old. They had grey marks on them from where lots of cutlery has scratched over them. I wouldn't use plates that worn out in my own home, let alone expect to be given them in an expensive restaurant opposite Buckingham Palace. Overall, I'd say it would have been an okay meal for, say, £15-20 including drinks and service, especially if it had arrived hot. But I would say, save your money and go to a good cheap Thai restaurant where you will get a better meal for under £20 for three courses and drinks.
