Thai Sabia in Newark and Sherwood

Really tasty food and a nice atmosphere initially, but let down by the service. We were looking forward to a great night after hearing positive reviews about the food from friends but we struggled to get even a hi, please or thanks from the young lad and lady “looking after us”. Food was dumped on top of uncleared plates and even asking for water seemed like a massive request.

Had a delicious meal here, very tasty food and decent size portions. Met on entry by the most pleasant lady who had a permanent smile. Reasonably priced the only minor criticism was they only served bottled beer. Will definitely return.

Nice atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and helpful apart from the rather dour young man serving. The starter arrived cold. Clearly frozen and put into the fryer. It was replaced. But that was also cold. The main coursea were reasonable. But they were lacking in vegetables which is concerning because they were vegetarian options. Too much salt in the red curry. 10% off the bill. Not really an appropriate form of compensation. It was marked as "takeaway discount". I've been to 75+ Thai restaurants and The Thai Sabai in Newark and the restaurant of the same name in Sleaford rank in the bottom 10.

No chilli no Thai Basil no heat in both my Husband & I meals. Mixed starter is bought in from Hoo Hing.

Service initially slow. Food when it came out was lovely but the evening was completely spoilt when the waitress knocked a full glass of lager over my partner when placing the plates causing him to be completely covered as well as his phone and everything on the table. The food was brought out before the plates so was sat there whilst we cleaned up the mess...the waitress ran off without apologising or offering to clean up. The main lady tried to blame us at first but was told what had actually happened. She offered free drinks as compensation but eventually agreed to take our meals and drinks off the bill. She admitted staff were inexperienced (the waitress didn't even know what each dish she was bringing out was). A family birthday meal spoilt by staff so we won't return which is a shame because the food was tasty. If the waitress that caused the issue had apologised, acknowledged her mistake and helped to clean up this review might have been more favourable.

Went for a meal last night ,was greeted by lovey Thai lady and choose our seat Another tha lady came over with menu and was pleasant and friendly However we were the served by a young guy who was not very customer focused or friendly. Banged drinks Dow without saying a word same with food Spoiled our night. And it wasn't just our table. It wasn't even busy so no excuse We complained to the Thai lady's. No apology though Would not recommend and would not go back

Not the best or even average place I visited. Waiting too long and if the person serving us smiled it would have been a miracle. Food arrived just barely warm and was a little concerned about the meat. What little there was I decided to leave and not risk it. Will not be returning that is a fact

No baby changing facilities, starter portion was very small and coriander was wilted, meat in the red curry was tough

Didn't eat here but read on.. "Booked" a table last week via the phone (there is no online booking) and left a answerphone message along with details and contact phone number. Didn't hear from them so assumed everything was ok. Turned up, they said they didn't get our booking as they "don't check the answer phone". We decided to go elsewhere...

Wonderful food and service ,,, but the A/C is way too high ,,, I always ask for it to be turned down , it just blows to cold which spoils my evening there ,,, hence don’t visit as much as I’d like too

We had two red Thai curry and pad Thai. It was beautiful. Rice was lovely. Young waitress knew her stuff about what was gluten free and what wasnt. We had a lovely evening.

The main couses were lovely. Waiting staff were all v pleasant but not great knowledge.. Didnt know what nam pla sauce was on request for it. Just a bit of training would sort that. Only negative thats an easy fix, it was very cheeky to charge £3.75 for 10 awful quality very chinese prawn crackers and splash of sweet chilli sauce. In a thai restaurant for that price id expect nice quality thai prawn crackers which have so much more flavour. Otherwise the food was a good four star rating.

Went for a colleagues birthday and the restaurant was great. I've never really eaten Thai food before, but found that I enjoyed what we ordered off the set menu. Staff were all lovely and friendly. Will definitely be back and would recommend

Don't like super hot food. Mild to medium is my choice. I had crispy chicken and crispy noddles in red chilli sauce it was full of flavour 😋 👌. I would go back to try a different meal choice in the near future. We had to ask to order the food we were a party of 11 people. I had a bottle of rose wine to go with my meal. Will need to park on a car park mosty free after 6pm. My price includes meal and drinks.

Best Thai I’ve had in the UK. And believe me, I visited quite a few around the county. This place is punching well above its weight.

We go here occasionally and always enjoy. On this occasion the pork wasn't great, but still enjoyed the meal. Will go here again!👍

Pad Thai was the best we’ve had in the UK. Tried Thai food all over the country including London, Birmingham and Leeds and this was the best. Service was great and the restaurant was very comfortable and clean. Can’t wait to come again.

This was the third time I've eaten here, with my brother, who moved to Newark in the last year. It won't be my last. It's worth coming down from Scotland for the food here alone. He's very fond of the crispy chicken, while I like to work my way through the menu. This time, we had the mixed starters, familiar fare but perfectly made, and I chose the Tiger Steak main, excellent with khao nieaw (sticky rice), all washed down with Singha beer. And neither of us can resist the crispy banana and 'ay thim' (ice cream) for us puds. Nok is a charming and 'sanuk' host, and her 'phii saaw' (older sister) a fine cook. I look forward to my next trip south!

This has been our main go to restaurant and takeaway for 3 years. In that time ALWAYs great service and excellent food. The best.

Excellent food, well prepared. I did notice that all the mains came at the same time and all meals were equally piping/steaming hot. Plates were pre heated as well 😀 portions are a good size 👌

I have Thai food pretty much anywhere I go, and have been about Thailand. Reviews were great here - grabbed a take away but I was a wee bit disappointed. The chicken starter in the leaves was dry and the pieces were very small given the price - I'd avoid that starter. I bet the others are better. The stir fry dish I had was very watery. Not sure about the crispy noodles. I'd stick to sticky rice if I plan on going again

The best Thai food in Newark Pleasant atmosphere Excellent service

Passing through Newark-on-Trent and stopped to eat here, always a bit apprehensive of UK thai food (either extremely pricey or a bit rubbish) but this restaurant really exceeded our expectations... My husband is from Australia where Thai food is more popular, and we would still rate this restaurant as one of the best! We arrived just after 5pm on a Sunday, so the restaurant was pretty empty (lucky for us), but I'm surprised it's ever empty with food if this quality. I had the battered vegetable starter, my husband the spring rolls, both were perfect - the batter was EXACTLY what a batter should be, light, crisp and flavoursome. My husband had the penang curry, I had the thai beef salad - not very adventurous but it's been so long we thought we'd better sick with our staples - the beef in my salad was so tender, my husband rated the penang among the best he's ever had. He had a side of steamed jasmine rice but would have been happy to eat it without, the sauce was delicious. The serving sizes were nite than adequate following a starter, we both have good appetites! The restaurant itself was beautifully designed with lovely details, without the tacky stuff... making a perfect atmosphere for a celebratory meal. The service was quick but not rushed, and our server (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name!) was very friendly and welcoming. The bill was cheaper than we expected for the quality too. If we lived here it would be our go-to take-out/ restaurant when friend visit. What a gem in such as small town! Also had a couple of espresso - the coffee is great! There were a few street parking spots outside, but we left our car in the larger car park after charging (by the b&q), only an 8 min walk to stretch our legs. Not sure where to recommend to park closer, I'm sure if you call ahead they will let you know.

Could of been better. Waited a while to be seen and ask for the order I placed. The green Thai curry was very watery, more like a thin soup than anything. Other food items were okay, but not excellent. Might be better if you eat in person, not so sure if will order again.

The food was really good, sadly that's where the positive comments end. The service was poor with forgotten items. The staff rushed us, trying to take items away before we'd finished on both courses. The 'booth' we were sat in was so noisy it was painful. There was a large noisy table in the same side of the restaurant and the noise bounced off the walls in our area, making it feel like being in a noisy cave. We couldn't hear each other speak, literally. My recommendation would be to ask to be seated in the left side of the restaurant as you go in. Some fabric in the other side (wall hangings or curtains) may help to absorb the horrendous echoing. Unfortunately it's not an experience I wish to repeat any time soon and wouldn't recommend.

An excellent find on a recent work trip. Quite possibly the nicest, most welcoming host I have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble and service was exemplary. We thoroughly enjoyed our food it was hot, fresh, flavourful and had good portions.

I'm a fairly regular customer at Zaap in Nottingham, but was looking for somewhere in Newark. We ordered takeaway for collection on the phone - polite, friendly, and helpful when one of our choices was not available. We ordered satay chicken and Thai calamari as a starter. Both came with a separate sauce and cabbage garnish. Both were excellent. We ordered two main noodle dishes: pad Thai (chicken) and pad kee mau (beef). The pad Thai is exactly what you would expect, and the portion was huge - could have fed both of us. The pad kee mau has many more ingredients than advertised, and more than the offering at Zaap - I found courgette, broccoli, and mushrooms among the expected green beans, red pepper, carrot and onion. The chilli kick was good and not over powerful. The portion was the same as the pad Thai. If you have a huge appetite, this will suit you. Complimentary prawn crackers were included. 10% discount for collection (30 minutes after ordering, and it was ready on time), so we paid under £30. Would highly recommend. We will be back!

Takeaway review. Ordered a broad selection of vegetarian & meat dishes, including starters. Unfortunately one of the Tofu dishes, intended for a vegetarian, was tainted with strong fish flavour. Appreciate Thai cuisine has a broad reach when it comes to fish recipes, but this contributed to the rating downgrade - this, alongside arriving to collect at the requested time & having to wait an additional 30 mins to receive the food. This was a first experience with Thai Sabai, maybe in-house is the best way to enjoy their dishes?

This place is the bees knees, if you’re eating in Newark once you need to go here and nowhere else. The service is unmatched, the curries are absolutely delicious and you can’t have a nicer takeaway for under £25. 2 Thai curries and 2 rices, it is just the best. You won’t regret it :)

I'm no expert where Thai food is concerned so my partner and I went for a sharing menu to get a decent selection of dishes to try. All were tasty, hot and well presented. The prices are reasonable, service good and restaurant interior very smart (it could've done with being a little warmer on the evening we were there though).

Had the shared starter which was great. Food was piping hot, flavourful and nice and crispy. Set meal 1 for two had plenty of dishes, Thai green curry, crispy chicken, noodles and rice. Curry was very tasty and nicely presented. Kai Som Los crispy chicken was very very good, really crispy, nice chunks of proper chicken. Noodles were very tasty, just enough spice. Place wasn't huge but created a nice atmosphere and the service was perfect, fast delivery and made me feel very welcome but didn't pester to check everything was OK all the time. Would recommend

My All time favourite restaurant!!! We eat here very regularly and have also had take away. The food is sensational and staff are so great. We've also had several family parties and events here too and everyone who joins us loves the food as much as we do! Recommend the mixed starter, Panaeng curry, Pad Thai and Kai Sam Lot 👌

Dishes I thought I knew already, from multiple locations even, served and taste in better way. Too many to list, but crunchy, light noodles almost dissolving on tongue with crispy, tender duck and sauce so reach it gives new meaning to sweet and sour. Try soups. Definetly will go there again.

Our first time in Newark and chose Sabai based on reviews and recommendation of a couple of local people. It was excellent - food and service. One of the best Thai meals I have had in the UK and US. We would go back tonight for round 2 but they are unfortunately closed on Monday nights. I had the Panaeng Kai - perfect!

We only had one evening in Newark, but two recommendations for dinner. We chose this one, and were in no way disappointed. A wide range of dishes, very well cooked and nicely presented. Very friendly staff, and reasonable prices for this quality. As good as it gets.

We went to Newick to meet someone, we'd made no plans where to eat. We were obviously looking lost, someone asked us what we were looking for, some where to eat. He recommended this place, and we weren't disappointed. Lovely food, great service.
