Can't believe we've never been to this Thai restaurant despite living in the area for so many years. We had the calamari starter then for mains we had the Chu Chee Fried Tilapia and the Seafood in a mild spicy sauce with coconut rice and Pad See Ew prawn. Delicious and authentic! Next time, we will try their desserts. Stop taking photos of the fallen telephone boxes and walk further up Old London Road and have a meal at Thai on Thames.

This is a hidden gem. We popped in there while Christmas Shopping around Christmas time 2023. It was quite busy and we had to wait for a table but it was worth the wait. Our food was so fresh and tasty. You could tell that a lot of effort had gone into making these meals from scratch. I had a papaya dish and I have never tasted anything similar before. It was so tasty. My husband had a fish dish and also really enjoyed it. The price was reasonable and I would definitely go back again. It is clean and cosy and just delightful really. Especially the friendly lady that served us. Hopefully we can visit again soon.

BEST THAI IN THE AREA WITHOUT DOUBT! THE KING PRAWN HOT-POT IS TO DIE FOR, AS IS THE GRILLED DUCK, AND THE BEEF PENANG IS TERRIFIC TOO! ALL THEIR DISHES ARE AUTHENTIC AND EXCELLENT.

The Thai on Thames failed to come up to our expectations. Last Friday the restaurant was very empty with only two other tables occupied. The background `jazz' musak was intrusive; very little atmosphere My wife's vegetarian Pad Thai had only 2 small pieces of broccoli. The pork in my Tod Kratiem Prig Thai was tough. Not our most enjoyable Friday night meal

Thai on Thames is now our first choice for Thai food in this area. The selection for vegetarians/vegans is excellent and the food fresh and authentic, with an eye for presentation. At the moment the restaurant is closed re covid, but they are fulfilling takeaway orders. Especially like the crispy vegetable spring rolls and vegetable gyoza, Thai green curry with tofu, Crispy tofu with cashew nuts, a side of garlic broccoli. The service is absolutely delightful as well as very attentive. Highly recommended.

Lovely place with amazing food. 3 of us went out tonight and shared lots of different dishes. The mixed starter and massage curry (they changed it for me to chicken) were amazing! It did not say it on the menu but we ordered fried bananas which were the best I have eaten in a long time

This used to be a favourite spot for us but as others have mentioned here it is not what it was. Main problem for us on our two recent visits was service. It wasn't very busy when we went but it took ages for them to be able to take our order and then ages again to bring any food. Then it came in instalments, with one of us waiting hungrily while the rest of us were eating. The whole thing took so long we couldn't face trying to have coffee at the end. The food was still quite nice, but the long waits just took all the pleasure out of the evening. As mentioned the damage to the floor is quite off-putting, and interestingly the website seems to have turned into a link to all things Thai, with one option being Thai girls! What is going on here? We won't be going back until we hear things have improved a lot.

This used to be a favourite, but sadly its rather gone down hill, since changing hands. Food was beautifully presented but not as good as it used to be. The floor had a presumably been flooded and was bulging up in the middle, sticky tables and dark as most of the lights were off. Meal was interrupt by takeaway couriers every couple of minutes. Shame as it was really good a few years ago. I doubt I'll be visiting again.

We were in London for just a couple of days, and wanted to visit Kingston for family reasons. We found ourselves wandering around the area by the train station, and discovered London Road quite by accident. It was after 7 on a Saturday evening, and after a full day of siteseeing we were famished. I asked my 16 year old daughter to pick a place to eat. As we walked down the road, it felt deserted, and we were afraid we wouldn't find anything. Then out of nowhere she says "Oh look! Thai food! I love Thai food!" (I will admit, this was a surprise to me.) So we went in ... It was amazing. As other reviews have said, it is nice inside, but not overly fussy. The waitress was so sweet, and helpful. I got what I always get - Thom Gai soup - and my husband and daughter both got different versions of Pad Thai. Exquisite food.We were in the UK for 12 days, and somehow, this ended up being the very best meal we had on the whole trip.Highly recommend!

We ate here Saturday evening. Early indicators were not good the place was nearly empty but no matter the service and the food were exceptional from start ti finish. We have both ate Thai before so felt confident to order but when asked for guidance the waitress could not have been more helpful. The food was of the highest order. Each dish beautifully prepped and served. Lovely clean taste and just enough heat to make it a truly delicious experience. Attentive throughout but not fussy the waitress made sure we had enough drink and everything was ok. It may be a little way from the main food areas (which seem to closer to the River) please do try. It would sad to think this is being passed over for what appeared to be the single choice of Italian. Very happy for those that want an alternative to recommend. Give it a try really is a described a hidden gem.

A modest little Thai restaurant in London Road, particularly popular at lunchtime. It's not an establishment that shouts about itself, but it quietly serves up the basics and the expected in a steady, dependable way.The quality of cooking far exceeds the rather bland exterior.A classic Thai green chicken curry is £8.25, while Pad Thai chicken stir-fry is £8.95.Starters range from £4.50 to £9.Recommended.

I was surprised to find this restaurant was under new management since my last visit, we have been regulars for may years. We went for lunch, the lunch menu was smaller with less variety than under the previous owners, the price was similar, the portion was a bit larger but didn't include drinks. The dishes we ordered were pretty resonable and the serving staff were very friendly.

Thai on Thames WAS the best Thai restaurant we've ever visited, superb. Sadly it's now CLOSED and has reopened at the same address under new management, under the name Thai on Theme - who on Facebook are still using the Thai on Thames website, including a link to the now defunct Thai on Thames menus and not their new menu which is very much smaller with less choice! Went to Thai on Theme last week. When booking was told it was still Thai on Thames but with a 'new menu'! Waited 50 minutes for a spring roll starter, they'd run out of Sauvignon Blanc and ice buckets. When the food did arrive it was good, but such limited choice for vegetarians. Very friendly service, who were coming in for a lot of criticism over the wait time for food. They've only been open a few weeks under the new name, so the jury is out! Will revisit, in spite of the small choice for vegetarians (and is Sweet and Sour really Thai?!) but if the same delay in getting food, it'll be struck off the list for good. Come back Thai on Thames, you were the best ever!!!

Stayed in the Premier Inn around the corner so very handy!Decor standard Thai but odd Thai pop BGM...Menu simple and satisfying, sometimes you can get too much choice, but the offerings were ample. FOH pleasant and very polite - as you'd always get at any Thai restaurant. Starters we had a salad type coleslaw and pork spare ribs, both nice without being memorable. Soft drinks came with lots of ice in thin glasses and straws... 3 slurps and they're gone!Mains we had a lovely creamed king prawn curry and I asked for a beef Panang (not on the menu), with sticky rice. Again, both tasty but without wow factor. Although the prawns were very large and meaty. Dishes were not huge, but with the starters we were both suitably semi full. Bill was £35 all in, so good value for money. And to top it off there is a mega gelato bar 100 yards back down the road!Very Good rating is for the fact it was better than average, but also close to the hotels and also that gelato bar..

This little place is hidden on Old London Road opposite the Travelodge and a little way along from the Fighting Cocks. Not the sort of walk taken by many unless you are attached to either of the afoementtioned venues... but it is worth a littel venture "off piste".Kingston is not known for the abundance of small independent eateries which is why this place stands out and it does so for all the right reasons. It really is small and can only seat around 20 covers and the decor is simple, but...The food is brilliant. The menu is small but the food is well cooked and served in a typically decorative way... and it is delicious, fresh and satisfying. It is not michelin star territory but rather it is a little star in the fog of chain restaurants and pubs that lurk on every corner in Kingston.Well worth a walk off the beaten track.

We booked this restaurant as it had good reviews and we was staying in the travelodge so not far to go. It had a nice setting and atmosphere but the waitresses could just about speak English so it was quite hard ordering, repeating our orders and some times still not getting what you asked for, and if you did get what you wanted they were giving you your friends food/drink, when they placed the food on the table its was if they couldn't be bothered to move things to make space so you were constantly having to do most of the work for them, best bit of all the bill comes in Thai writing so you had no idea what was on your bill we didn't bother as we thought £100 for 4 people and a few drinks was a good price. Food for me was average, watch out for the duck rolls....they are filled with 95% potatoes and 5% duck very disappointed!!!

We love Thai food and with one of London's largest Thai supermarkets a 2 min walk from this restaurant you would have thought the quality of the food and the ingredients would be exceptional. Its almost impossible to make a mess of Thai food. Thai on the Thames manages to not only make a mess of the food, but adopt an extremely aggressive approach to customers.recently visited with my wife- first and most definitely the last time.We ordered 2 soups, red chicken curry and hose special beef dishThe soup base was ok, the prawn soup had 2 prawns and the chicken soup had 3 tiny slivers of chicken -The main courses arrived, very small parsimonious portions. The beef dish was inedible as the beef was as tough as old boots. The red chicken curry was insipid and again contained 3 tiny pieces of chicken. Not wanting to make a fuss, we left the beef dish untouched. When it came to paying the bill, my wife politely mentioned to the waitress the beef was very tough and the dish inedible. The waitress said she would speak with the chef. Within seconds, we had the waitress, the manageress and 2 other waitresses aggressively stating there was nothing wrong with beef...In addition, the male chef and 2 kitchen workers were standing at the kitchen door staring at us in the most aggressive way imaginable. The people on the next table were also very scared as it seemed there was going to be an incident. My wife at one point said should we call the police. With 6 staff intimidating us- we had no option to pay the bill, including the untouched beef, and leave. My wife was very upset as was I , in over 30 years we have never been subjected to such intimidation in a restaurantWe will never ever return

I always walked past this restaurant and never thought much of it - hidden in the corner of Kingston, I didn't think it was anything special. After looking for a new thai to try, we came here last Friday after reading the reviews and I am pleased to say that I was very impressed. The service is really good, the waitresses leave you alone and don't pressure you to order anything extra, or rush you. The place was empty when we arrived at 8pm but within 20 minutes it was nearly full. We ordered spring rolls, prawn rolls and chicken satay skewers as starters - the satay chicken was delicious. For mains we had green curry chicken, beef massamun curry and red chicken curry. I thought the beef massamun was one of the nicest I've ever tried - not too sweet, with very soft beef. Drinks were reasonably priced at £2.95 for a small glass of white wine. The mains were all around the £7-8 mark, and starters around £5 each. We left feeling full, but not heavy. The food was excellent and so was the value. This will definitely be our new go-to thai restaurant.

Amazing food, intimate atmosphere and good value for money, perfect! As quoted by a previous reviewer this really is a hidden gem, I already can't wait to go back, for me and my fiancé the service was fine as we don't like to be rushed and make a good evening out of dinner enjoying a bottle of wine throughout. I can see that this would also make a nice place for lunch whilst in Kingston shopping. For us, Thai on Thames will definitely become a regular visit

This restaurant is great for lunch while shopping in Kingston, you don't need to book in advance its not crowded they have a fixed price lunch menu with a main course and a drink for about £7 and the food and service is always good. Why crowd into Starbuck or one of the chain restaurants in Kingston when you can come here instead?

I only found this place through TA - thanks! We took some friends for dinner who had never eaten Thai food before and they were worried that it would be too spicy for them. They needn't have worried. We had the set meal, and checked first that nothing would be really hot. They loved it. We loved it. The restaurant let us have coffee instead of the ice cream desserts on the set meal for no extra charge, which many places wouldn't do. It was a good meal. The place was rather quiet, as it was early in the week, and it is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the effort. Service was very good. Good value house red wine went well with our meal. We will go back and try a slightly more adventurous meal and see what that's like.

I lunch in the Thai on Thames once or twice a month. Wholesome fresh food with pleasant waitresses who always keep my pot of Jasmine tea topped up. 3 courses at lunch for £11.75. It is incomparable value in Old London Road. I'm so regular now that they know my order before I am seated. I'm an avid Trip Advisor and for a light lunch in Kingston go for Thai on Thames

This restaurant is a little hidden gem. I love Thai food and got the taste for it while having a holiday there. Thanks to trip advisor myself and the family booked a table for my Birthday. From the outside it is easy to walk past without noticing it is there. However inside the décor is lovely and true Thai. The staff were very friendly with out being to much in your space. They explained all the menu question and the service/ food was very good (fantastic). We loved the atmosphere even though there were other people in there, it was not to loud and busy. The staff must of over heard that it was my birthday as none of the family had requested, when my chocolate bomb desert came out, the staff had put a candle in there and everyone sang happy birthday, which made my night . The price is very reasonable and we were all full without being to stuffed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for all occasions and I will certainty be going back there again. Great restaurant xxxx

Went here early this month with some work colleagues. We all ordered different food and are not shy about trying each other's dishes. For starter I had some sweet glazed chicken wings, and tried my colleague's duck rolls, both were great. I had the lamb massaman which was incredible - the lamb melts in the mouth and the sauce is packed with flavour. The other creamy dishes (including green curry) were extremely tasty. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and not pastes and every dish tasted amazing. None of us had a single criticism to make.Located amidst the more 'edgy' shops of Kingston (tattoo parlor, bar, vintage record shop, books, antiques, etc) and is a little further from the town center than I'd like. Although I live above many restaurants, it's definitely worth the extra 15 minute journey. The lady that served us seems to be the owner. She was very lovely and helped us a lot with the ingredients (one of our party was gluten intolerant). Very good service, with a smile! Another thing worth noting; I had a starter, main, dessert and two diet cokes for £20! Unbelievable considering the quality. I had my honeymoon in Thailand and this brought me back to it! Will be going here again very soon and taking the wife.

We gad a good table next to the door which allowed some fresh air on a hot evening. Reasonable ambience. The fish cakes were not to my taste but the vegetable salad was very tasty. For the main couse I had the Pad Krapow (Beef stir fry with basil, garlic & chilli) and was not very impressed. If I'd cooked the same at home I would have said it was awful. There wasn't much of it for £8 and I was expecting it to come with some vegetables in it. Rice with garlic and ginger had not much of either but the rice was good. Ice cream for dessert at I think £4.50 was a bit of a gouge. I won't be in a rush to go back there but I concede that I may have just been unlucky.http://www.thaionthames.co.uk/menu/

A small rather inconspicuous thai restaurant. It's not exceptional but it does punch above its weight. Decent flavoursome curries. Not expensive. All in all an OK and understated place for a casual lunch or supper

Eaten here more times than I can remember. Menu is small but every dish I've had here has been of excellent quality. Soups are a must try, even if you don't normally like them! The Tom Kha is my personal favorite...

Food here is really really nice. Good decor & friendly staff. It gets very busy during lunch hours, that we always reserve a table before dropping in. I would rate 4 stars instead of 5 coz of the slow service (may be due to the lack of staff).

Lovely thai food, the best in the area now that Simply Thai in Teddington has become so disappointing. I'm a vegetarian and they are always happy to accommodate dietary preferences or adapt dishes to suit. We eat there regularly and are never disappointed.

We have eaten in this place twice now, we all love Thai food and it's hard to find a Thai restaurant with a good home cooked food that is not all fried and the first time we went there we all loved the food and went back again the following Sunday. The waitress is also very friendly and hospitable we will continue to go there and hope the quality of the food doesn't change.

The food here is first rate and the place is a very and pleasant small local restaurant. I had the Luke Chin Ping my friend has the Tom Kha Gai soup. The Luke Chin Ping was very spicy (have a glass of water or extra beer to play safe!) but the spiciness did not detract from the first class flavor and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For a main I had the Pad Cha Talay @ £9.95 which was sizzling spicy seafood with prawn, squid, some sort of unidentified fish & scallops and it was really first rate. My friend had Gai Pad Med Mamuang @ £7.95 which is a crispy chicken dish with cashew nuts and chilli. We had a bit of each and next time I would have the Gai Pad Med Mamuang which was exceptional. All considered this place is really nice and the staff were friendly so when I am in Kingston again I will definitely eat there again.

Tasty Thai food, attentive staff. This is quite small so I would recommend booking if you are going in a group, especially on at a weekend. This food was nice, and good value.

I came here with a friend having seen all the wonderful reviews. I was disappointed but it was still ok. It was quite hot when we arrived, far too warm and so we were quite uncomfortable. Having ordered drinks and water, it took the waiting staff ages to bring them out. The place is small but we were one of two tables being served that Friday night. Shouldn't have taken so long. It was nice that it wasn't particularly busy, but when the service isn't up to par, I'd rather go to a restaurant that can keep up with the number of customers. The food was pleasant but I wouldn't say it was that great. I've just been to better. Towards the end of our meal, the waitress pretty much ignored us. It took a long time before we could order our coffees. And then longer to be served our coffees. Not rushing back in a hurry. I have a feeling that the lunchtime menu is better value and enjoyable.

Such a disappointment! We were really hoping Big Smoke would turn this pub into a great local, but it’s not looking good. Firstly, the pub absolutely stank. It was better at the back, but as soon as you walk in there is a sewage smell. The service was really standoffish - no ‘how are you?’ or niceties, just very perfunctory. We were given dirty cutlery, and when we asked for clean she literally polished it and gave it back to us. We ordered a few small plates and they were disappointing. Fried potatoes were actually frozen roast potatoes! And ‘whipped feta’ tasted like cream cheese. Don’t bother with the food.
