I got a take out but with low expectations due to recent reviews. Should have gone lower……much lower. £26.30’s worth of vile. It was called a lamb jungle curry and special rice for what that’s worth. If you want to try , go now, it can’t last much longer.

Oh dear we had a take away and the food has gone downhill dramatically. Jungle curry was flavourless and everything else tasteless. Prawns were gritty and tasted that they had better days. Shame!

Visited without a reservation. Was impressed with all the dishes as Good tasty food, great warm service and reasonably priced - would recommend and will be back.

We’ve been to this lovely little restaurant around 5/6 times and each time they do not fail to impress, the food quality and quantity is fantastic, they always have space for us to walk in, they’re friendly and accommodating and we are always happy with our meals and the price is reasonable too!

This is a super Thai restaurant with very good food and a lovely, warm welcome from the Thai staff. Located in a very old cottage - mind the low doorways! - at the southern end of Newland Street, right opposite a car park, so parking is very easy. The menu is extensive, with all the Thai favourites. A mussamun curry with lamb was delicious, very tender meat and full of flavour and delicious aromas and cooked the proper way. A red Thai curry was also good, and not too spicy. Fish cakes were better than I've had anywhere. Portion sizes are good, prices very reasonable and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed a spontaneous visit to Thai Cottage. To start we had the mixed platter & the duck. I then had the sweet & sour chicken whilst my partner opted for the duck main which was out of this world. Thank you so much we will be back.

Unfortunately i cannot write a review about the food because I did not get any. I can write about the service which simply put was unbelievably bad. I arrived at the restaurant at 7.30pm on a Saturday night along with my wife. The restaurant was maybe three quarters full. I didn’t notice at the time but not a single table had any food apart from prawn crackers. We were hurriedly shown to our table. The next time anyone spoke to us was 30 minutes later to ask if we wanted a drink and some Prawn crackers. They arrived around 10 minutes later. We were now looking at being there for 40 minutes. By then a couple of tables had starters. Everyone was looking around bemused and not Sure what to do. There were only 2 members of staff running around literally trying to deal with the situation. By the time it got to 8.30pm we decided enough was enough. We had not even been asked for our order. Nobody had had anymore food and we Had no apology. We got up to leave and went up to the counter to pay for the drinks we had. We were made to wait another 5 minutes to even do this and then they tried to charge me for the prawn crackers as well. They should have charged us nothing because of the unbelievable service. We had to leave and go Across the road to the Indian restaurant where I am glad to say we had a superb meal be it an hour and a half later than we intended. Take my advice and leave this place alone unless you don’t mind waiting hours for your food.

This was our first time visiting the Thai Cottage as we have recently moved to Witham, it won’t be our last! We love Thai but have never visited a restaurant before, having always had takeaway. The Thai Cottage was lovely, the staff were friendly, there was a nice atmosphere and most importantly the food was fantastic. We tried some new dishes and some old favourites, they all hit the spot. Definitely give them a visit if you like Thai food! PS. Chang beer….bosh!

Amazing; beautiful food and very good service. The restaurant is in dire need of refurbishment.Also the heating needs attention as it was very cold when we were there. The set meal is very well thought out and was appreciated.

Never knowing what to order the wife and I went for the fixed menu A £24 pH which consisted of a mixed starters and main consisting of Thai green curry, a prawn in ginger dish, a beef in oyster sauce, with a helping on noodles and rice, was very tasty and enjoyable, very clean, would recommend.

First time visiting this restaurant and the food was amazing the service was on point not over bearing but always there if you wanted something. The portion size is very generous and I can't recommend more the mixed starter lots of fantastic flavours all on one plate. In short we can't wait to go back, thank you.

Have been here quite a few times it used to be okay if a little expensive and over rated (our restaurants in Witham are all pretty poor so the yard stick is different to what you might expect). Anyhoo it hurts me to write this as it’s a local business I would like to support but the takeaway I got tonight was vile! I had dim sum which was over cooked and tasted like it had been frozen, the flavours were off and the pastry was hard at the top. It also had the wrong sauce. I also had pad Thai which was awful chicken was dry over cooked and had definitely been frozen, it had that weird taste that you don’t get with fresh cooked. There was hardly any egg or peanuts. The noodles were pasty white and had very little flavour, I don’t think they had used enough sauce, there just wasn’t any flavour, I couldn’t eat the chicken at all and I was starving! I also couldn’t eat more than one of the dim sum which are my favourite. I’ve honestly had better pad Thai from Sainsbury’s 😮

We enjoyed a long overdue meal out at our favorite restaurant in Witham last night. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented and fresh, served by warm welcoming staff. Guests were well spaced out and given the option of where to sit. We will be back soon.

Visited tonight. Staff were polite and attentive. Food was delicious and environment was smart. There was no problem re COVID restrictions.

We have enjoyed many good meals at Thai cottage in the past, we visited last night and were amazed at the complete lack of both social distancing and the use of menus that were fabric covered and could not be sanitized. They had the hand sanitizing gel for use on entry but whats the use of that when the menus are obviously multi handled, after we had looked at them we used our gel to sanitize our hands again. HOWEVER the most worrying thing was the complete disregard for social distancing, we has people seated either side of us closer than a metre from us and to make matters worse children were down from the table next to us and walking close to us, I think its terrible that a restaurant can put its own commercial considerations before the safety of its customers in such trepid times. It was so woorying that we will now have to get Covid tested. On top of that the service was very slow and they seemed to be under staffed, the food though was good but we could not enjoy it because we were so worried and on reflection we should have got up and left.

My husband and I have been to this restaurant several times and the food is always delicious and really good service. Personally I love the decor too.

Went with my wife & family. Had no previous experience of Thai food - we went on my daughter's prompting. Was not disappointed. Met by smiling lady & shown to table for four. Extensive menu which somewhat puts me off so we went with a set meal. Was not disappointed. The mixed starter seemed much like you get in a Chinese restaurant. The mains were varied, tasty & well presented. Good wine list with wines supplied by local supplier. Reasonably priced, well worth a visit.

Friendly staff, interesting decor and a tasty menu. A good local Thai, I recommend the flat noodle, but Tom Yum (my Thai goto dish) didn't have the depth of flavour of some others.

Excellent food freshly cooked for a party of four. The service was good with friendly staff. The Pad Thai was particularly good.

My Mrs recently moved to the area and we were looking forward to eating here. How wrong we were. We ate a extremely watery flavourless jungle curry which had clearly been microwaved and the beef inedible. The phadthai was just as bad with dry over cooked chicken. What a shame but will never eat here again

Great service and truly delicious food! Portions are also really generous so go for a selection and you can share and have variety. It is a shame they don’t have a nice alfresco option for the summer time but food is always delicious!

We visited on a freezing cold Saturday night and found the restaurant fairly busy but noticed how cold it was inside. We waited and waited to be served but then noticed there was only waitress who was also looking after the take away customers too.Eventually after no service, we left naturally very disappointed by lack of service.

My partner and I are regulars. The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere, its ok on a weekend when its busy but weekdays are usually quiet, they could do with some music in the background however this is the best Thai food I have ever had in England. I have spent almost 3 months in Thailand and their food tastes just as amazing as it does in Thailand. The Pad Thais and Currys are great! I would recommend.The takeaway service could also do with cheaper prices.

We used to love this restaurant, but when i ordered my usual takeaway it was over £10 more than previously. When i asked to read back and recalculate i was told they have had to put prices up between £1 and £2 per dish because the cost of chicken etc had gone up, i accept prices need to go up occasionally but this was over 30 % increase !! Such a shame but im afraid the quality of food does not justify the increase. We will have to get our weekly takeaway from somewhere else

Have visited many times and ordered as a takeaway. Food is beautiful cooked to perfection, good choice available on the menu and the restaurant itself is very well done with a nice atmosphere. Would advise booking as it’s very small would highly recommend

Lived in Witham all my life yet never tried this restaurant so gave it a try last night with my partner, fantastic meal great service and good ambiance, we will be back

Ordered a chicken massaman curry and a beef Penang curry but the sauce in both was very liquidy and insipid. The potatoes in the massaman curry were hard. Won’t be going again and very expensive for bland food

Very disappointed with the food, went based on recommendation from a friend. The spring rolls and chicken satay were quite nice but the mains of chicken massaman and chicken cashews were really bland. Very expensive for what we got £50 would not recommend

My friends and I love this place! we always come for our girly catch ups the staff are so helpful and the food is so amazing! it is always a great experience and I would really recommend it to anyone thinking of going. The red thai curry is my favourite but I love it all!

I’ve been here several times over the years with friends and family, it’s a great Thai restaurant and the only one I know of in the Witham area. Conveniently located at the bottom of the high street and opposite a council car park.

Have been to this restaurant a few times now and have never been disappointed.

Staff go above and beyond and deserve a mention great team And the dishes they serve are awesome I highly recommend

Had a really lovely dinner here. Way parking over the road and not far from the main town area. We had a set menu for 2 where we got a selection of starters, 3 main dishes and rice and noodles as a side. Was really good food. The green Thai curry was really good and you could request how spicy you would like it. The waitress was very attentive and sweet. Will definitely be visiting here again.

We ordered a takeaway from here on Friday evening from a menu we had from ordering takeaway on New Years eve. Upon ordering we found the price had risen by 25% from the menu we had.

We have been to this restaurant a number of times and have always had lovely meals but the meal we had last night was not up to scratch.

Lovely food and service, visited for a family birthday celebration. For what ever reason to visit, this would be truly worthwhile with easy parking across the street.

We have eaten here many times, the menu is excellent, generally our experiences have been very good although the last couple of times we thought things had started to slip a little, until a few months ago you always had really nice prawn crackrs put on the table when you sat down but the last two times we have had to ask for them, drinks are a little expensive, needs food heating trays as over a long meal the food can get cold. Overall though the food is very good and the service also is excellent.

We arrived at 6.30 on a Saturday evening and the place was nearly empty but by seven it had filled up. There is a pay and display car park just opposite. Our welcome was friendly and the service was excellent. We ordered a duck, chicken and prawns. The food was well cooked with fresh ingredients and some nice flavours. For me it was too salty but my companions weren't bothered by this. The portions were small. There was a choice of three lagers but no English ales. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience.

Amazing Thai Restaurant! Food was to die for. Service also very good. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend it!

We have been coming here since it opened and it never disappoints. Having been to Thailand we can say that this is authentic in taste and atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

Thai is our favourite food. In the aspect of food the Thai Cottage was as good as expected. We combined starters and mains and had an excellent meal. Special mention needs to go to the papaya salad, the tempura vegetables and the Lamb with herbs. That lamb was outstanding.

Popped in on the spur of the moment, really pleased we did. Delicious, freshly cooked Thai food. There was a wide range of food available on the menu, something to suit all tastes, from sweet to very spicy. Excellent service, even when the restaurant was full and there was a substantial queue for takeaway orders.

A while since we had visited, and we had forgotten how enjoyable the food was. Really enjoyed the evening. Not overtly expensive. Good service. Only negative was the lack of interesting desserts - but that was a minor issue as we decided on Irish Coffee instead. Lovely atmosphere.

Not cheap. It not expensive either. Service can be a little slow when busy but food is always good and enough of it. Have also had a take away from here and that was good too.

The food itself is general very good…But here’s the downside.If you looking for a table for two, the size of the tables used are woefully undersized, one couple had to put their Wine Cooler ON THE FLOOR to make space for the dishes.Table SPACING at busy periods is insufficient resulting in a loss of intimacy and ambiance for an evening out with your loved one. If you are in a group of friends that’s ‘liquored-up’ and passed caring, I guess you might not be bothered by this.This restaurant continues to NOT use plate warmers (not the only restaurant guilty of this sin). The way this type of food is consumed is much the same as chinese food, you perhaps order a few dishes and during the course of the meal you will pick and place food items onto your plate while interspersed with periods of conversation (assuming you like the person you are dinning with). The food especially noodles, rapidly becomes COLD, whatever the owners rational is behind this (I’ve heard a few excuses in my time: health & safety, fire hazard, waiter burnt his finger, whatever, the point is other restaurant DO). In my opinion this is a ploy to move dinners out of the restaurant in the shortest time possible. If you’re in the habit of ramming food down your throat-hole in super quick time, and take the Gaviscon later, then this will be of no consequence to you.Finally the BILL. You will be presented with a collection of hand written tickets with illegible notation, this leaves the person paying the bill trying to figure out if he or she is being overcharged, or worse ‘taken for a ride’. On a first date, you perhaps really don’t want to question the Bill to avoid any embarrassment. This is just bad practice by the owners of the restaurant, and might bring into question the restaurant’s integrity. Just one last point. The waitresses need to look as if they like their job, they’re generally efficient but a smiley face and a little banter encourages tipping. Now you’ve been warned..enjoy

The overall ambiance and service in the restaurant was good. The small portions of food food were so bland I had to chew on the garnish to acquire flavour.

Had a takeaway 2 weeks before was so bad had to phone to complain said they would give us £20 of next time. Ok no problem normally really good. My wife has gone to collect takeaway tonight and been made to feel really uncomfortable and almost brought to tears manager throwing my wife the £20 saying she has had to pay it out of her own money then all the kitchen staff coming out starring at my wife talking amongst them selfs in Thai and acting very aggressive. Didn't want to eat the food in fear of what they had done to it. From the few mouth full we had was very bland again and the mixed veg was just onion They must have a new chef as use to be very good. Not anymore!!!!!!!

This is a very nice restaurant with a lovely staff. The food on the other hand was nice but lacked seasoning and spice.

Very nice and authentic tasty Thai food. Very reasonably priced and decent sized portions. The Pad Cha Talay (spicy stir fried seafood) was very good one of the best I have had. Will go again when in area.

Really good Thai here and always very consistent, the Tamarind Duck is our favourite alongside the Masaman .. beautiful food !

Everytime I have walked past this place even midweek there always seems to be a lot of people! After eventually managing to make it here for dinner one night, we can now see why!The food is lovely and we'll presented at a reasonable price too!I especially liked the mixed starter and the yellow curry!!

My second visit here and I will be back! Of the 6 if us everyone enjoyed their food. I had the sea bass which was delicious and a lovely sized portion. The dragon Ball dessert was also a wonder to taste. Excellent flavours, wonderful decor and topped off with curtious efficient service.

With a car park opposite (50p from 7pm) it makes access to this high st restaurant easier than other eateries in this area. The food is decent and the prices are fair. Service is fair however it would be good to get more smiles from the staff!

Visited with uncle who lives in Thailand, who was most complimentary about the authenticity of the cuisine - we just loved it!!!

I came here with a friend for a mid week dinner and we both really enjoyed our food - we ate so much and I still took half my dinner home as I couldn't finish it!There was lots to pick from on the menu which is always a plus!Staff were friendly, food was really tasty - will visit again.It looks like there is parking behind the restaurant but we weren't sure so parked in the pay and display car park opposite the restaurant (the pay machines were a little confusing - as we were there for dinner and after 6pm it only cost 80p to park so make sure you don't pay more than you need to!).

My partner got us a takeaway from here in August and the chicken was overcooked and tough (we had green Thai curry). Considering it cost us about £35 for two main dishes and a side this was an extortionate price for over cooked chicken. We will be going back to our old Thai which is in Chelmsford.

This place is one of my favs in Witham and the food has always been fantastic. Yes you may have to wait a while for the food but this is because it is served so fresh so how can you complain. I have tried nearly all the dishes on the menu and the flavours are fantastic and have never found fault with any.Great staff great restaurant great food ✌✌✌

The food here is lovely and good value. Bad points service was slow only 1 person serving, drinks menu limited. I would like them to serve processco and a better variety of spirts

Since moving to Essex we've generally been unimpressed of the quality of Thai food compared to London. However this place is a gem! The food is really delicious. Pad Thai is a firm favourite as are massaman and green curries. Starters are well worth an order! Take out is an option too.

In need of some spice, we headed to the THai Cottage and were not disappointed. The drunken duck was excellent, though not hot as I thought it would be. The Gaeng Dang was as good. THe service and ambience were impeccable. We'll definitely return for more.

I've been to this restaurant several times with family and the food has always been very high quality. There is a great selection even for vegetarians. The atmosphere and decor are great and the staff are friendly. Prices are also quite reasonable. I'd recommend eating in but have not tried their take away service.

This is my second visit and the food is good!I had a Thai seafood salad to start which was very tasty and spicy For main i had green curry which was really enjoyable. The others in our party enjoyed their meals, soup, pad Thai etcService is good, it's just not the best Thai I have visited

The Thai Cottage has for a long time been a favoured takeaway/restaurant. The food was always excellent and the staff efficient and friendly. Even when the prices went up and the quantity went down, the Thai Cottage remained our favourite takeaway. Unfortunately over the course of the past few visits, the quality of the food has drastically reduced and not only has the amount of food significantly reduced but they have tried to compensate by padding out the meal with the cheapest ingredient. Today however, has sealed that we will never use this restaurant again - our meal was accompanied by a big black hair which seriously leaves me to question the hygiene of the kitchen. I returned the item, hair included, but the manager would not come out to see me, just sent her waitress to apologise! This is the first negative review I have ever left on any service provider and I think it's only right that people are aware of questionable hygiene before they make their choice to eat sub standard food at the Thai Cottage.

First time I've been here and really enjoyed the experience. Service was very good and food was fairly tasty. I liked the decor and the design of the tables; the waitresses wearing Thai dresses added a nice touch.

Second time we've been here, and having thoroughly enjoyed our first experience, our second was just as good.Service was polite and efficient, the food and drink really, really good, and great value for money.Went on a Saturday evening, restaurant was full with a good atmosphere. Sign on wall says that delays may occur if busy, but we found the slight wait between courses helpful and enhanced our visit.We will definitely be going back here time and time again !

If you like your Thai Green Curry really sweet and gloppy then this is the place for you.If however you like Thai Food then I would stay as far away as possible because although they appear to be Thai either they were born here or they have lost all memory of their homeland and how to cook Thai food

We visited the Thai Cottage for dinner, principally because of its good reputation locally.The weather was chilly and damp on the Tuesday evening we visited, and there appeared to be little or no heating in the restaurant; even the single member of serving staff had a fan heater blowing on her feet. The two women in our party ate their meals wearing their winter coats ! This really took the edge off our experience; we complained but were told there was nothing to be done.The restaurant was really quiet, but even so the service was very slow throughout. When the food arrived it was excellent, although not really hot enough having been served on cold plates and dishes. The table setting did not include chopsticks, just a fork and a spoon. We had to ask for knives.The menu is quite extensive, and seems to have some Chinese style dishes as well as Thai. Portion sizes are perfectly fine for most people, sensible, rather than generous. The food is attractively presented, and the choice wide enough to suit most tastes.The restaurant is quite nicely decorated, and is comfortable bar the temperature (at least when we visited).Prices are sensible, we paid around £18 a head for two courses and a few beers.We are unlikely to visit again, as the overall experience was not up to the mark.

Use to be a really nice place. Got ill from a takeaway here and had not eaten anywhere else. When I spoke to an older lady in the restaurant about it a few weeks later I was told to get out. Lovely customer service. Will never eat out of that place again nor would i recommend it. Well I would if I didn't like you. Avoid.

we have regularly been to this restaurant. The restaurant is very authentic, with the waiters and waitresses dressed in traditional thai costumes.Upon sitting at the table, the top of the table is glass, with a charming display of small ornaments with rice underneath them. I feel this adds to the atmosphere.The waiters and waitresses are always pleasant and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them.Our food is always hot and delicious with lots of lovely food on the menu. My partner particularly likes Tom Yum Soup whereas I am very partial to chicken satay.The desserts are to die for our favourites being the sorbet absolutely delicious. The ceiling are quite small with signs to mind your head. I have to frequently remind my partner not to bang his head as he is 6.3 inches .We always go to this restaurant on New Years Eve and have a lovely meal in gorgeous surroundings to see in the New Year.I would throughly recommend this restaurant especially if you like thai food.

Went here for a family birthday,service was good and the food was reasonably priced,however the food was very bland,especially the rice which was more stodgy than sticky.The restaurant itself is very tired and needs updating.Will not be returning.

Great food, excellent value for money and a nice cosy atmosphere. The servers were dressed in traditional Thai dresses and nothing was too much trouble. The tables were nicely laid and "interesting". We were not rushed and had time between courses to let our food go down.Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be going back very soon to try more dishes from the menu. They also do take-aways.There is a car park across the road (directly opposite) which also makes it a convenient place to eat.

Eaten here a few times and also had take away, nice atmosphere and food is very tasty. Reasonably priced. Tried to charge me twice for my take away, and it was very embarrassing when I was accused of not paying but it was sorted out in the end. Not been back since but prefer to sit down than take away, to avoid any more awkward situations.

We vista here more than we should and in fact went so much last year that it was of our biggest spends in our budget. Good for freinds and family and older children. Clean, friendly staff and very good priced menu, they also offer a collection service. Food is always very good and we feel very relaxed here, can be super busy and full at weekends so best to book.

Has never once disappointed, food is always delicious, service always comes with a smile and food reasonably priced to boot, what more can you ask for?! The Thai Cottage in Witham is fantastic for a wide variety of Thai cuisine in a lovely atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the prices are very reasonable. For four people (starters, mains, a few alcoholic drinks and a shared dessert was roughly £110) Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in the area!

Food was average, definitely better Thai restaurants out there. Bill came to £32, paid £40 and staff decided to keep £8 (25%) as their tip despite me waiting for my change at my table for over 20 minutes (while the staff avoided all eye contact). I’m not bothered about the £8 and would have left at least £5 tip anyway, its more the principle.Such a shame that i left with a bad taste in my mouth (and not from the food)
