On arrival, this place was either going to be excellent or terrible. There was a homely atmosphere; the background ambience of a Rotary Club meeting - upper middle class ladies jeering with laughter. The friendly but overly eager service felt like being pestered to make a choice. A selection of starters, pad thai and green curry were ordered, which arrived on small worn out plates. Staters were alright, the noodles were overcooked and sticky, distinctly lacking any freshness - herbs and chilli. My partner seemed to fare better on the curry front. The whole experience was rushed and we were out in 25 mins.

This place has amazing food and staff. It is true authentic Thai food served in a small authentic and honest setting. Green curry and Pad-See-Ew noodles are incredible, and there are too many good items to name. Don't let the simple exterior setting fool you, this place is true food. Good size portions, reasonable prices. If you want real Thai food, this is the place to go!

Most recent visit was not good - have been several times over the years, and service has sometimes been leisurely, but waiting 1.5 hours was just awful. We were constantly told the food would arrive 'in 5 minutes' and the apparent delay seemed to be down to a commitment to fulfilling takeaway orders before serving people sitting at tables in the cafe. When it arrived, noodles and rice were fine, but we were beyond enjoying the meal. No apology or discount, either.

My second visit here on a Saturday evening with a group of friends and we were placed at the back of the restaurant which was great.Tried a selection of starters- vegetarian spring rolls,Thai fish cakes, tom yum veg soup, deep fried mixed vegs in a light batter and all tasted delicious and piping hot.Mains consisted mainly of Thai red and green curries, with assorted rice, pad Thai gai and side dishes of chicken with cashew nuts, onions, mixed peppers and mushrooms.Portions were reasonable and all of us had a great time.BYOB was a bonus. We had room for the desserts so chose the coconut ice cream which was presented in half a coconut shell. This time it tasted good compared to the very first time I had it.Very convivial evening and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us.This is a real gem of a family run small restaurant which delivers home cooking at its best.Prices were reasonable.Service friendly and attentive.

it was date night and we fancied some thai food and after reading the lovely reviews we wanted to try it out but was totally disappointed by finding a hair in the salad and then told not to come back by the thai manager when we complained!!! The place is small but had that thai feel and we ordered the papaya salad a beef dish and a beef stirfry, the food was pretty average but tasty, nothing like the reviews we read but then my boyfriend found a hair, we wern't too sure where it came from and he kind of just brushed it off to not make a scene but then found another one, much longer and thin so defo not either of ours. When I told the waitress she faintly apologised but then carried on doing her duties, we were totally put off and just wanted the bill to get out. When the bill came the waitress just put it on the table and walked off- it was full price and not even a small discount was offered. When i got up to pay and inform the manager, she was totally unapologetic and then told us to not come back and said in 33 years theres never been a hair! I understand that these things can happen but her total lack of remorse and no desire to discount the bill was totally inappropriate and i was angered by her audacity to tell us not to come back! (which i wont be). I hate complaining but felt that it was bad management and a bad attitude to have.

My partner and I went to Thai Cafe in Stoke Newington based on the excellent reviews we saw online. It's small and comfortable though not too small. The service was friendly and efficient. Anne had Thai Green Curry after Mussels and I Had a yummy chicken soup followed by a reasonably hot curry and we shared boiled rice, coconut rice and a Broccoli and mushrooms side order. We both had Thai beer. The food was plentiful, well cooked, served quickly and with smiles. Some conversation about Thailand took place, the owner being extremely friendly but not in any way intrusive. The bill for the two of us was a very reasonable £40, and we'll be back to sample more of Thai Cafe fare on a regular basis. Well worth a visit!

If you like Thai cuisine you will find the finest in 3 Northwold Road. Their red prawn curry is to die for and if you are a vegan you will feel as spoiled as me as there is much to choose from for a veggie palate. Absolutely fantastic to be able to enjoy those exotic flavours at such reasonable prices. The owners are infallibly welcoming. A real relaxed place to eat in and de-stress . The décor which is actually not much of a décor at all is reminiscent of the 70's making this place unintentionally interesting and effortlessly genuine. If you are a baby-boomer like me you will understand why. This little thai café has real soul which is rarely found in posher establishments.

I just love this place. Sometimes I go on my own mid week, sometimes I go with friends and a bottle. The food is outstanding and appropriately priced. It always seems so fresh, full of flavour, piping hot. Wow, writing this review I realise it's been too long, I'll have to get down there this week!

Visited this family-run café on a Saturday night and amazed by the crowd constantly coming into the tiny café .It gets very busy and service tends to be rather slow .Not. much room to move around with a group of 6 people if you happen to be seating near the entrance door, with customers coming in and out. Very chilly seating near the entrance door. Lots to choose from the menu with a special page for vegetarians. Soups were piping hot and very delicious We had a variety of Thai curries, very tasty and of reasonable prices. Tried the coconut ice cream , nicely presented in a coconut shell, but not much coconut taste..BYOB so a real bonus !.

This Thai cafe had been open for many many years- yet it only has 12 reviews... All great... Evidence that local people love this place yet they don't want to shout about it.Well I'm gonna shout- this place is awesome. Way better than yum yums and that other place opposite it. The frontage to this cafe hasn't changed in years- if anything it puts you off- but don't be fooled. The food is well priced and amazingly delicious. The lady who runs this place is friendly- but she's getting on a bit now so she has employed some help. That's about the sum total of changes over 10 years... Go visit, enjoy but tell no one !!!

We were recommended to go this place by a friend as they said it was amazing.it really is. The food is really flavourful and such good value for money and they use quality ingredients and fresh vegetables. With so many chain restaurants or overpriced thai places I'm really glad this is here!

I've been visiting this Thai Cafe for well over 10 years now, I've taken many friends & clients here, I've had Birthday and Christmas meals for 20+ and EVERY single time everyone raves about the fresh, quality food and many guests return soon after, sometimes the very same week for more. It's the Thai Gem of London This is my favourite Thai restaurant without exception including the ones I frequented when in Thailand. It's a casual café (attire wise) yet top class in food quality and value which has never disappointed. In all the years I've been here, I've never had a mediocre meal nor have any of my guests so that constancy in quality is to be admired and the value for money is astonishing. My favourite meals are always the duck green curry and Massaman and I love eth coconut ice cream but really, you could pick anything from the menu and it'd be exceptional. Mother & son who run the place are so warm, friendly, remember patrons from previous visits and work so hard, they deserve all the praise they get. It's open Monday to Saturday 18.00-10.30 so I'd always book a table as locals or those like me who travel in just for the Thai Cafe could have you waiting for a seat. Trust me, this is one Thai Cafe you'll return to again and again, mark my words ;o)

Tiny thai restaurant just by the bus stop. The food's tasty, healthy-ish and not over-priced. I did not have space for dessert but those ice cream flavors were so authentic I had to try I'm glad I did. Felt comfortable as well as entertained. Go there for a dinner with a casual date or with your family. Or alone. Hope you like it!

Forget the overpriced and slightly pretentious Yum Yum's round the corner. Thai Cafe is where it's at. This place won't win any awards for glamorous decor and atmosphere, but if you want a delicious Thai meal then Thai Cafe is the place for you. It's cheap, its authentic, and the service is warm and homely. This must be one of Stoke Newington's best kept secrets....

My boyfriend and I go to this place regularly. It's a great little hidden gem, run by a lovely Thai lady and is very homely and intimate. The service can be a little slow when it's really busy, but that's a minor quibble. Oh yes, and it's BYOB. Bonus!

Brilliant, homely little restaurant and take-away (no longer called Addie's as in the photo, just the Thai Café) run by a lovely woman in her 60s. Stir-fried beef with ginger (No. 28, Neua Pad Khing) and stir-fried roast duck with bamboo shoots (No. 67 Ped Phad Phed) are supreme, as is the Tom Yum Hed soup. Barbecued veggie kebabs with peanut sauce (Satay Pak, no. 1 in the 'Special Vegetable Section'...) also a winner. Unpretentious, speedy and much better value than many places on nearby Church Street.

Lovely little Thai place serving authentic Thai dishes. All the classics on the menu. Run by a lovely Thai couple in their 60s. Don't expect anything flash, but the food is wonderful and it is dirt cheap - around £5 a main. Exactly what you want in a local. I really hope it stays open forever.

This is a delightful, little, basic, cheap Thai restaurant that is do doubt well known to the cognisenti of Stoke Newington and Hackney. My sister took me there and I was very impressed by the quality of the food at extremely reasonable prices. The duck with sweet and sour sauce was a special that day and it was delicious. They serve all the usual Thai dishes. Good sized portions of rice or noodles and home-made mango ice-cream with banana fritters for dessert, scrummy. They do serve wine. It's a family run business (open 6-10.30 p.m.) and a real little treasure. (They also do take-away, but don't let that put you off, just a few people come in to collect what they've ordered by phone). Seek and you will find. Enjoy.

Love yum yum , always delivers in term of food quality, ambience and service. Manager and staff always make customers feel welcome, a very enjoyable Saturday night dinner with hubby finished off nicely in the lounge area sipping on a cocktail.

Some nice unique options, and oldies but goodies offered as well. The garlic naan was quite delicious. The bonus side dish was a nice, umm, bonus.

Order sweet and sour chicken and egged fried rice. Everything was cold and didn’t look or taste like it was cooked the day. The sweat and sour looked like vomit. I tried to eat it as I didn’t want to waste money but it also tasted like vomit. Soggy and weird looking colour. The worse Thai food I’ve tasted in any country. People from Thailand would be disappointed if they came here. 0/10.
