The location was great. The food and service were good too. We wanted dinner outside on one of the warmest days of the year. A number of issues beforehand as I wanted to confirm we could be seated outside and it was really difficult to talk to anyone. I left a number of messages and sent an email before I got a response.

Very good value and good food but disappointing ambience, service and general feeling of being rushed. Allergies and dietary requirements were considered and marked on the menu, which was great, but then not observed when food was served and staff didn’t seem to care because it was closing soon. Should make it clear it closes at 7.30pm.

We have eaten many times at the Terrace since it opened and it seems to be sliding down on each visit. When it first opened we enjoyed the tapas style. We also eat out 2/3 times each week in top class restaurants but when visiting the NT it is easier to eat on site. The bread is poor, they defiantly need to change their supplier. The olive dip with dry crackers and breadsticks was horrible. The hot food came cold and we did not even try a fish dish on this occasion as they were so disappointing last time. We paid £65 and concluded that we would only order a glass of wine and the cheese platter if we find ourselves here again but suspect next time we will bring a sandwich to eat in the foyer.

Have been to the hotel for a few weddings which have been lovely. Attended for a spa day with afternoon tea this month with a friend. Hotel itself- I was surprised as to how dated the hotel looked, and how minor details have been ignored. I understand the hotel is now under new management. I hope this is all rectified. It is a shame when you walk through the front door, as outside looks so promising. Spa facilities- Changing room itself, everything worked but again dated. We were given a robe and towel each, and a locker key on arrival. The pool was cold, a few regular members in attendance otherwise quiet. Sauna great, surprised no emergency button ( but I may have missed this!) My only complaint about the pool area was the view outside. What could be a nice garden, was covered with what look like tip stuff outside. Is this really necessary? Staff- Staff member very pleasant and nothing to much trouble for her. All the other places I have been too for spa have been in spa wear attire, staff were dressed in gym wear. I don’t know what staff duties they have, but if you are wanting to improve the spa side perhaps a different staff uniform? Afternoon tea itself, we enjoyed. Thank you

Fantastic option for a pretheatre supper or just a friendly natter/catch-up. Great service and easy going environment with great acoustics in favour of the private conversation and not the clamour of the restaurant yet there is a buzz, and it’s reasonably priced, quick and yet relaxed. Almost nowhere meets these apparently contradictory pair of criteria -we all agreed we are going to use regularly. NB opening times mean at least Monday to Wednesday kitchen closes 7.30pm, be aware as by 8.30pm all over!

The Terrace is a really good option for a pre theatre meal. Smallish sharing plates make it easy to just have a snack or a full meal. The menu required explanation, but once we realised that they were supposed to be tapas, that was fine. Apart from one dish being extremely extremely salty, all food was good quality, interesting and nicely presented. The staff were lovely. The bill came as a bit of a shock in the end as we hadn't eaten much, but actually it was because of the drinks... so our fault entirely! A good place for pre-theatre but this was the first time I've managed to get a table so it's worth booking.

One of the best options for a light pre theatre dinner - and as the name suggests a lovely terrace overlooking the southbank hubbub. Service good though at times a little slow.

Food at the Terrace Restaurant was excellent. As a party of 4, each of us was impressed. Prices were reasonable and service was very pleasant. Two people chose burgers, one had piri piri chicken and one chose herb-crusted cod. The only criticism was the ambiance. The restaurant echoed and although a large party was not overly noisy, it made it difficult to hear our conversation. Had there been soft furnishings the sound would not have been so intrusive. I would definitely recommend eating here and will certainly make a return visit!

However the courses arrived in dribs and drabs with long delays and we were not served together as a group. All 6 were too small. I have read reviews of this place complaining about the size of the portions and suggestions they call their tiny dishes tapas so as not to disappoint but they are still serving tiny portions (2 meatballs or 2 small chunks of lamb) as "dishes". Really poor and really disappointing. How are they still getting away with such poor quality and presentation? The staff were decent.

All the staff we met couldn't have been more helpful. The starters of scotch egg (with black pudding & chorizo) and the squid were beautifully presented and were delicious. We both had the roasted lamb rump and with pan haggerty & minted caper relish -the lamb was beautifully tender and cooked just as we had requested. We liked the glass of merlot we had. The night before we had eaten at the House restaurant as we knew we wouldn't get there in time to eat before the show, and the Terrace is only open before. We have been to the Terrace a few times now and we have tried so hard to like it. The location of course is perfect for the National shows and the food is actually well cooked (the lamb dish is as good as anything we have tried) but the portions are just too small for the prices charged. The drinks list is reasonably priced. The real problem is the service and at peak times you will be waiting a long time for your food, assuming you can find a server in the first place. On the night we went the service hit a new low when the server spilt half of our zucchini frites, scowled, didn't apologise and just walked off. By this time we were in such a rush for the show that we just wanted to eat, pay up and catch our show. Do try this place but keep an eye on the clock.

The only disappointment having booked online is that despite its name the restaurant is all indoors. You can sit on the (quite small) terrace for a drink but they won't serve food out there. That was a shame as we were there on a pleasant evening. However, don't let that put you off - it's a good watering hole before a south bank show.

I felt that each dish (tapas proportions) was slightly over priced, but considering how nice they were, for someone on a moderate budget, it is definitely worth the occasional visit. We had a licorice sour and a chestnut Manhattan (both powerful and tasty)
The bell of the theatre rang and the diners fled the space!
We moved back in to dine near a window still looking at the river! a treat!
The menu is well balanced and the food was absolutely OUTSTANDING: nicely presented, fresh, colourful and tasty.
Recommending the fish carpaccio, the Tartare, the prawns, the rabbit and the fried courgettes. pudding: marzipan pie (heaven!) and , err, espresso martini!
Unrushed and friendly service
not overpriced

The Terrace Bar and Food offers a variety of tapas in a great range of flavours and ingredients. We always eat here before the theatre and are never disappointed - many favourites always offered, such as the kofta kebabs/skewers, the baked fish and the endive, stilton and glazed-walnut salad.

We will return again and again to the Terrace Bar and Food for pre-theatre as it is so quick and convenient for the National Theatre. Good, reasonably priced food and wine served by friendly, efficient staff. Nothing more to add.

I was expecting so much more from my visit to this place. The building resembles a multi storey car park and the terrace itself was more like the balcony of somebodys flat. The lunch menu choice is limited and does not state whether there are nuts in the dishes for allergy sufferers - we came very close to somebody in our party having an attack when we realised by chance that there were nuts in the lamb kebabs. the view and food were disappointing and the atmosphere was...... well, there wasn't one.

We return again and again to the Terrace Bar because it is perfect for a pre-theatre drink and snack. Service is efficient and friendly and the food is great value tapas-style. They are usually very busy but still manage to appear unruffled and are always aware that people don't have much time to spare. Even though we were late our waitress made sure we had a table and served us in double quick time. Will definitely be back.

The sharing plate offered at the Terrace bar is good value and gives you the opportunity to try a number of dishes on the menu - fish, tortilla, dips and salad great; meatballs too garlicky.

Desserts are limited but tasty - the cappuccino cup stood out.

What let this meal down was the service. Inattentive staff - I had to ask for water three times; our dessert took 30 minutes to appear and only did so after a reminder.

I would recommend this for the food and location for the theatre but the service needs to be sorted out.

The staff were very efficient and welcoming. The service was very quick and the staff checked out if we were off to a show within the hour, which we were. The food itself was ok - nothing outstanding and a little bit on the deep-fried and greasy side for me. The price was reasonable and in terms of grabbing a quick meal before a show it works well but wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

The Terrace is obviously a very convenient place to eat if you're going onto see something at the National. As far as I could see it's all about Spanish tapas type options, so if you're not big on tapas aviod. You do also need to book to (shouldn't be tricky via Toptable) as it gets very busy, and punters turning up on spec were being turned away.

Went here before going to a concert at the Southbank Centre and the staff were very kind in getting the food quickly. Nicely presented tapas style dishes I had the basque style baked cod which was very good and the hummus to start was nicely done.

Drinks aren't cheap, but the prosecco with a hibiscus in it was beautiful to look at. There was a live acrobatic show taking place in the courtyard below and the preparations for the Jubilee were also being done so it as a pretty festive location.

At the Terrace bar and food at the National Theatre our waiter was delightful and helpful, the sound of music drifting up from the performance below enjoyable and the food was good too - an interesting mezze selection.

As always, the pre-theatre meal at the Terrace Bar and Food was excellent. We had the Mixed Meze for 2 which we hadn't tried before and found it to be fantastic value for money (£22 for bread, a dip, frittata, two salads and 2 good size 'small mains'. Wine by the carafe was good too and the service cannot be faulted. For a quick, healthy, delicious meal before the theatre you cannot beat it.

Terrace Bar and Food at national Theatre ideal if you're looking for a mezze type pre theatre meal. Good selection and very tasty, though lamb kebabs only fair to middlin.

We enjoyed yet another pre-theatre meal at the Terrace last night. They were even busier than usual, but still managed to provide a quick and efficient service and good value food and wine. The small plates are really not that small! The tuna was delicious as usual but the pork belly (huge helping!) was a little dry, but still tasty. The only downside was that the live music downstairs was a bit loud. However for a quick pre-theatre meal you really can't beat it. We will definitely be back!

Had a pre-theatre dinner at Terrace Bar & Food, which was excellent. Service was prompt and at the right level of attention. Food is served tapas-style, so we ordered a variety of dishes to share. The courgettes in batter, particularly, were scrumptious - light and crispy, melt-in-your-mouth! The staff are clearly used to pre-theatre diners - it only took one request for the bill, which came within a minute, was dealt with uber-efficiently with a smile, and we were done in 40 minutes.
