Tapitapa in Exeter

Love this restaurant and cannot wait for it to reopen, food was always absolutely amazing, my two kids love going here and are always made to feel welcome by the owner and his staff. Such a shame a fire forced them to close last summer, but hopefully will reopen soon

Myself and my girlfriend came here and returned a month later on our visits to Exeter. We live a few hours away from the restaurant and always come back because this place is so lovely. We hope it opens again soon as we came to Exeter today to see the restaurant was closed for refurbishment.

Spanish friendliness, good treatment and good food. we love Spanish food, it is healthy and has a lot of flavor.We had a pleasant time.

Excellent family tapas. Delicious peri peri chicken salad, patatas bravas, meatballs, baby squid, peri peri chips. Service very friendly. Go check them out.

We had an extremely enjoyable evening at Tapitapa! The food was amazing with a great selection of dishes to choose from ! We began ordering a few things each but as soon as we tried our first dishes we couldn’t stop ordering more. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to explore different dishes in a atmospheric friendly environment!

Very impressed, very good service from the waiter, the food was really good and at a reasonable price, we didn't turn up until 15 minutes before it was closing and they offered to stay open to cook for us. Would recommend.

I came to this restauramt several times,everything 8 was amazing.The food was very delicious,the service was also very good,good restaurant good atmosthpere,the staff was very lovely and very professional.Honestly,it is a very good restaurant i recommand to everyone to go and to try it ,i'm sure you will love it.

This was my second visit to this trendy, authentic tapas bar in the Bohemian quarter of Exeter. Both times I came on family holidays. Last year it was very good, this year it was excellent. From the moment you walk in the service is proud and attentive. The ambiance, underpinned by simple, relaxed seating and upbeat Spanish blues music hits the mark. The wine and beer selection is small but a good quality and focussed on Spain. As for the food, exceptional. I had the meatballs, baby octopus and selection of croquettes, others in the family had Manchego, chicken and vegetables, Patatas Bravas and crab salad. Not to be missed.

I felt I was traveled back to spain, smelling the spanish bruscetta and the fresh garlic prawn. Everthing was lovely and the staff were very kind and nice. It is definetely the best tapas restaurant in town. Highly recommended you will not regret.

This restaurant was clean and staff were very friendly, the food very Spanish, freshly prepared and the manager was Spanish. Service excellent, over all we were very pleased with Tapitapa as we don't know Exeter well, and other places were really busy and this place, although very near the main streets, was a great find with a lovely peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed Spanish dishes, with some favorite Spanish music.

What a find! Came here with my friend for dinner and we had such a fabulous time. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, even taking the time to run through their recommendations from the menu with us! The food and drink were both great, with plenty of choice, and it all arrived quickly! A great place to eat out in Exeter, especially if you love Spanish food!

The service at this little Spanish tapas restaurant was a treat, a little gem in Exeter that we've been wanting to try for a while. The ambience and music in the building was calm and relaxing, reminding us on how much we love Barcelona. Families and couples we equally catered for. The food was simply prepared and well-executed, I recommend the Patatas Bravas in particular. Our waiter was friendly and smiley, and enthusiastic to tell us about the new items (and wines!) coming to the menu soon. We felt welcomed and valued, and will definitely we returning soon as invited. A Saturday treat.

Absolutely excellent fresh wonderful tapas with a great host - cannot recommend this place enough, everything on the menu was delicious, especially the squid, garlic prawns, iberico croquettes and bruschetta - I would 100% visit again - looks like a simple establishment, but the owner cooks with beautiful fresh ingredients

My wife and I had walked past this restaurant many times, just thinking it was no more than a tapas serving cafe. How wrong we were, as despite the huge glass front there was still plenty of character inside. We decided on a light lunch of a jug of sangria, which was superb and four tapas(rather than the larger 'portion' size). The spinach croquettes were very tasty as were the Iberian ham croquettes. The bread, with aioli topping, was also very tasty and served in a unique/'different' way- a really nice and surprising touch. The potato bravas were also served differently to what we have experienced before, and were flavoursome. All in all a fabulous experience and when we next go it will be for dinner, as we only tend to eat light lunches. The owner/chef was very friendly and obviously very proud of his creations explaining his current dishes and new ones in the pipeline, such as octopus croquette and squid croquette; again something different to try.

After reading so many good reviews we were looking forward to our visit but it was a big let down. The waitress was wearing the filthiest stained red apron I have ever seen which instantly put me off. Told there was no lemonade to make a shandy but a few minutes later we heard the Manager telling the table next to us that their sangria was made to order with lemonade.. We ordered a selection of tapas dishes. The first arrived and the next wasn't brought until we finished the first.. and repeat.. I questioned this as we would have liked a selection of tapas on the table to pick at.. we were told its the Spanish way to bring one at a time... well I can assure you it isn't. Finally the octopus was absolutely inedible. Tougher than rubber and disgusting. Sorry but we won't be back. The whole place needs a good deep clean and that includes the serving staff.

My partner and I visited Tapitapa on a trip to Exeter last week and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The decor was homey and comforting, the kind of place you would want to be a regular customer at! If we lived in Exeter, we definitely would be. Highly recommend Tapitapa.

Had an excellent selection of tapas dishes for lunch yesterday - great quality and very tasty. Excellent service and homely/rustic/relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

The best food in Exeter, always fresh well cooked and nice portions. That is how food should be. The Spanish owner knows what is he doing, he brought the best of Spain, which is quality!!!! Not like other neighbouring places whatever names or ratings but food doesn’t speak for it self at all.

Amazing place with the best Spanish food and Sangria in Exeter. I read some other reviews saying the place was not clean but I strongly dissagree everything seemed fine and the restuarants setting strongly complimented the food with it's Spanish decorations and spanish music combined with a nice spanish staff, amazing place definetly visit.

Great price and the food kept coming. We were there a good 2 hours eating lovely food. Don't be in a rush as it takes time but well worth it.

Best place in town! The food is always top-tier, when I was in Spain I went to many good restaurants but this one beats all of them. The chef is really friendly aswell, would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant.

Visit this restaurant quite often and never been disappointed! Portion sizes are huge, food is delicious and staff is very friendly! Would definitely recommend the Sangria, Croquettes and Paella!

Lovely food, well cooked and great tasting. Service is good but needs to be a little faster. Could benefit from a front of house person or a kitchen assistant to make the service quicker rather than having a person as a go between. Pricing is very reasonable for size of portions. Sangria is lovely and different every time

Great food and good size portions for the price. Bread made fresh daily. The prawns were especially good. As others have noted, cleanliness isn't perfect which in the current times isn't acceptable, hence a star is knocked off, but it didn't affect my enjoyment eating and there was hand sanitiser available.

This restaurant appears to be struggling. Decor and cleanliness are suspect, the waitress was very pleasant as was the chef/(owner?) but the menu was limited, the food salty and neither staff were wearing Covid masks! The tuna tasted like it came from the Jurassic era and indeed, it extracted its revenge at 3am. Mind you, my girlfriend didn’t eat that dish and was similarly afflicted. Don’t ask for dessert or coffee. They are not available. In these pandemic times, cleanliness and food hygiene are paramount and this restaurant is a fail in those areas.

Walked in, walked straight out again. We booked a table for lunch on the basis of these reviews. Restaurant smelled disgusting - damp and unclean toilet, the door of which was wide open and visible from the entrance. Can only assume these are fake reviews.

Waited at the door to be seated for 5 minutes before being acknowledged. Restaurant was half empty at this point. Another 10 minutes before a drinks ordered, Cola was served at £2 in a multipack can and not even opened by the host. Another 5 minutes for a food order - it took a long time for anything to come out, meatballs fell apart, prawns were overly salty, omelette was nearly an hour after the first dish. Asked for the bill and for the omelette to be taken away, had to ask again 10 minutes later. Slow and unimpressive food.

Awful takeaway never Again! We phoned to make an order for collection and the man on the phone put me on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up and just ordered through just eat. Arriving home with our food what we ordered on the website was seafood paella, meatballs 1/2 portion and king prawn in chilli and garlic full portion. What we had in our bag when we got home was no meatballs just a paella and prawns which the prawns were tiny and didn’t taste nice at all we didn’t eat any of it just threw it in the bin and the paella was so salty we were up all night drinking water! It also had no prawns or mussels (for a seafood paella very poor) what it did have which I’ve never seen in a paella in my life was a crab stick which was made to look like a huge king prawn but was defiantly not! Worst meal of my life and biggest waste of £37!!!

We loved this place, Aldric and Antonio were so very welcoming and being our first time out with our children following lockdown, they really worked hard to make my lads feel safe, cared for and wonderfully fed. The food was fab, the paella delish and the churros far too moreish. Very reasonable at £48 for 5 of which included sangria's too. I've had worse for far more! Such a friendly place, we all loved it and will return.

Warm and friendly understated restaurant in Exeter City centre. I had delicious anchovies and café con leche, the real deal. And perhaps best of all, it's run by the owners and not a someone on minimum wage with no stake in the business.

Just had a fantastic paella, couldn't fault it, give them a try!

Just about the worst meal we have ever had ! Friday evening one waiter & one dubious looking chef ! Unfortunately for them you could look straight into the kitchen where they were taking all ingredients from the freezer straight into the deep fat fryer ! £50 for four tapas !! Prawns in garlic oil tasted of nothing not even garlic & was served in an old frying pan. Can only think the other reviews were written by relations.. Les Farley Honiton

Love how this place is getting better with time, I went the other day with my girlfriend we were walking in for street when started to rain, we pop in and have a really nice hot chocolate with churros, the chocolate taste just like in Spain. Really nice place to have a hot drink some tapas or a dinner.

Totally awesome Tapas. We’re just back from a week in Spain and can safely say this was as good (if not better) than the best Tapas we had there. The quality (freshly cooked to order) and variety were great, as was the service. Our only disappointment is that, as we’re only visiting for the weekend, we won’t be able to be regulars. Don’t miss this treat...

We had an excellent dinner here. The food was delicious, well presented and the portions very generous. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. We all felt very welcomed and had a personal chat with the chef who always kept an eye on us. The place is new and still needs to find its character and rhythm but I would definitely recommend it and will be coming back soon.

Took 20 min to prepare a “bocata” (sandwich with a baguette), which it would be perfectly fine if the place was busy, but there was only a couple eating. A bit disorganised... the sandwiches weren’t THAT amazing for what I paid. The ham was all fat, sadly.

Not just authentic Spanish food but experience: delicious traditionally prepared dishes, generous portions, affordable prices and super friendly and caring staff always keen to have a conversation about their culture. Had a great night out with friends! We felt like being in Spain (including those who are actually from Spain). Fingers crossed the decor will start developing soon too. Could also do with some awesome Spanish folk music. We will definitely come back 🙂

Frozen and precoocked food. Shame to call this spanish food. Disgusting.

This was their first night, I give them 5 because the food and service was exceptional, it is an authentic tapas bar/cafe in Exeter, we had fritura de pescado, a speciality of Seville and of the the Sevillian head chef Juan. The only downside (but I still give them 5) was the uncertainty over their opening day and the ambiance was a little sterile, but that can be developed.
