Taj Mahal in Inverclyde

Ordered fish ceylonese curry and lamb chilli bhuna as these were both listed as hot & we also requested for them to be extra hot/ spicy... we did not enjoy either. Both were overly sweet. Even my father in law who doesn’t like spicy food tried and thought they were very sweet. The fish curry had batter- seemed like they had used fish pakora in it resulting in soggy gloopy batter within the curry and slimy jelly like fish. Although described as having coconut, it was like descinated coconut was used. It was thick, stoggy and very unpleasant. The chilli lamb bhuna was nothing like a bhuna I have ever tasted before; it was like tomato soup with extra sugar and there was certainly no taste of the “plenty ginger, onion, garlic & green chillis” it was described as. The lamb was described as "tender" but was the complete opposite. It was very dry, there was probably two pieces that weren't full of inedible hard grizzle and it was much like chewing on an old boot or how I would imagine an old boot to be! Neither of the dishes tasted remotely authentic nor were they enjoyable. The mince paratha was tasteless, bland with no seasoning and part of it was doughy/ uncooked. Meal was a big disappointment and waste of money. We checked the reviews after (had previously just skimmed the first few before ordering) and noticed someone mentioning a similar experience with their fish curry.

Fab family run business. Large choice on menu or can ask for recommendations. Good idea to book as very popular. Catered for gluten free. Wines, beers and spirits and soft drinks. The medium dishes are quite hot (spicy) and arrive on sizzle dishes. Some already come with rice so be careful not to over order extra rice like we did but we were given takeaway containers to take home the excess food. Some on street parking free after 6pm. Take away available. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Ok so I’ve been sampling the menu bit by bit but my birthday dinner was my first experience of eating in the restaurant in years, easily ten years maybe more There were 7 of us for dinner on a Sunday evening and the place was really busy. The staff decorated the table and not only did they supply me with birthday cake but I also got a lovely tub of roses as well :) Poppadoms and spiced onions were complimentary while we browsed the extensive menu and ordered our drinks Everyone managed to find something that appealed to them, my mum loves Indian food sadly unable to eat anything with spice anymore so she opted for the Maryland chicken and prawn cocktail, my lamb chops were amazing and cooked perfectly they may look well done but the meat itself was perfectly medium, we mixed up our starters so everyone was trying different things and then onto our mains, we ordered far too much rice and naan breads the portions were huge. All of the different curries went down well and even took home some doggy bags. Considering the quality of the food and the outstanding service this is not what we would call an expensive meal for the family, however in the local area some people think it’s on the higher price end. It hasn’t been voted Scotland’s best restaurant in the curry awards for nothing !! With the birthday cake and the amount of food we had for starters and mains only one of the party decided to have desserts on this occasion but we are already planning another visit in the new year.

Taste of the food was very nice. The korma had a tiny spice edge, which was great. The chicken portion was a little too small for £13 for me. Plenty of sauce but I did leave hungry despite the starter and main with naan to share. The naan was a good size though I will say that. I don't think I would choose to go back but I had a nice evening. Certainly worth a try if you fancy a curry.

Food was nearly cold when arrived due to being half hour late. Food was tasty and plenty of chicken.

Food was great, ordered 2 chapatis , got home and there was only 1. Minor error in a busy restaurant.

chips were horrible possibly reheats and all tiny crumbs, popadoms also all smashed to bits

Expected at 1915 and arrived around 2045. 1hour 30mins late. Total delivery time was 2hours 30mins.

ordered at 7.05 and took until 9.28 to be delivered. also nothing refunded at all for the inconvenience.

Ordered on Just Eat, waited over two and half hours and food never showed up. Contacted the restaurant twice and was told the driver had it then was told they couldn't reach the driver. Asked for a refund and was told they contact me tomorrow. Horrendous customer service and no accountability.

We've eaten here a few times and the food is always good and service by the owner is exceptional. The bad however, is we have been let down by deliveries on the last 2 occasions as the food always arrives burnt and dry which is very disappointing.

Our party of four were visiting from Lanark for the midnight swim at the outdoor pool. We managed to bag the last table available on Wednesday night which speaks volumes in itself. The food was delicious and plentiful. We also had a vegetarian in our party who was spoilt for choice. I'm so glad we chose this place The service was wonderful and very friendly... we were even given little extras to add to our meal. Thank-you, we had a great night and will definitely be calling in if we are through that way again.

This has become our favourite restaurant in Gourock. Lovely family run place. Excellent location with a wee see view. Excellent food and service Rai and his team always go the extra mile to make your visit special.

Fantastic food and generous portions - pakora are amazingly good. Meal deal for two is really good, but everything we have ordered is just great!

Had many a take away from the Taj Mahal. Service & food fab as always... Ordered a take away this evening for pick up and found out when we got back to the caravan, 20 mins away that the garlic nan was missing. I phoned them to let them know and without any hesitation whatsoever they not only apologised and arranged for a nan to be delivered to us they also threw in freebee foc. Absolutely fantastic and well appreciated. Mistakes happen - thats life but it is how you rectify it -TM no issue/q's asked Well done 👍

Another fantastic night at the Taj in Gourock. 6 of us for dinner and didn’t disappoint again , shared starter was fantastic , included all of the starter options with sauces . Mains included Goan Fish Curry , Chicken Curry, Garlic Chilli Chicken , Rogan Josh Chicken, Rice and Nan’s all fantastic , staff could not have been more helpful even making us a mild curry to take away for the kids to try 10/10 again , would highly recommend if visiting Gourock 👍🤣

1st time visiting this restaurant. On entering this restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere even although restaurant was busy. Excellent service. Staff so courteous , friendly & very attentive. Menu had a wide variety of dishes including European & a 'kids' menu which had both Indian & European dishes to choose from. Excellent value. Will definately visit here again, will bring friends & family & highly recommend it. Advice would be to book a table in advance.

Wow! Absolutely amazing authentic Indian food. We had several curries, but the Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) was probably the best we’ve had anywhere in the world. Highly recommend!

I love this restaurant, but this night we all just wanted to stay in. The food was still of the high quality we always get and the portions are a Fantastic size. We all enjoyed a splendid meal!!

Curry as always was fantastic, but the garlic naan was absolutely covered in coriander (which I dislike). The naans seem to be different every time.

I visited my favourite Indian restaurant twice this week. Once on Tuesday, 4th June 2024 with 7 ex colleagues and again tonight, 8th June with 10 family members for a farewell get-together before we head home to Melbourne. On both occasions the food was, as always, amazing! The staff were attentive and pleasant and, to top it all, I received a lovely parting gift. Thanks Team Taj, we will certainly be back on our next visit home!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the Gourock area! Even Glasgow area! Taken over by a lovely family just a few years ago, have to say the meals never disappoint! Best in the business! Top notch! Probably why they won the "Curry Awards" this year and also picked up an award last year. Absolutely faultless and amazing staff 👏 🥰. Decorated lovely too.

Had a delicious meal tonight with my husband. The moment we arrived we were escorted to our seats by a lovely member of staff. The decor is nice and cosy, and the drinks and food ordered promptly, food, as usual was absolutely delicious and great sized portions , stuffed our faces. 10 out of 10 everytime, well done guys 👍

The Taj Mahal is the best curry houses we have used!

Eat at the Taj Mahal 2-3 times a month with the occasional carry out as well. We always have an excellent meal. It is certainly our go-to place when we need a pick up after work or just can't be bothered to cook. We've tried the supposed 'quality' restaurants such as the new Scott's in Greenock with its stunning location, but for us the food is poor quality for what they are charging. The Taj is consistently good quality at a reasonable price point. The staff are excellent and always cater to any requests we may have.

Great food and service. Family of 3 and we ordered 2 starters, 3 mains 2 rice and a naan. Plenty of food for the 3 of us. All the food was delicious and the naan was perfect. Prompt service and lovely staff.

Chicken Chilli Bhoona was brillant! Great service as well, very kind to children. Highly recommended!

Had a great night. It was a beautiful evening with the sun setting over the water and hills and the restaurant was packed. Great atmosphere. As always, the food was excellent with lovely, smiling service from the friendly staff. I believe they recently won an award and it’s easy to see why. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Taj Mahal.

The best Indian I have ever had, I wish I could have it again

We go every week and are never disappointed. The owner, the staff, the service and the food are excellent. We have introduced so many of our friends and family who now are also regulars. If you haven't been yet please go and see for yourself that my comments are so justified.

Went here for my Dad's 60th Birthday. The staff really went above and beyond, bringing out a cake and bottle of wine for my Dad. The food was brilliant and the service was excellent all night. Could not recommend more!

As always a great restraunt. All the staff are friendly and tentative. Lovely decor and views over the Clyde and beyond. There is an extensive menu with great culinary delights awaiting your sensory pallet. The Khodi Glassi lamb last night was awesome with a dash of Whisky in the gravy sauce it just melted in the mouth. If your in the area it's a must visit at a very reasonable price.

On a visit to Gourock tried to book the Taj Mahal restaurant. Sadly the restaurant was fully booked. We decided to book on our next visit avoiding disappointment. We were delighted we booked, as the restaurant was very busy. I know now why! We were greeted by the owner a very nice man, shown to our table which gave us a super view of the River Clyde. The food was of a very high standard and presented by very friendly professional staff. Overall a most pleasant experience. Thank you.

Received take away tonight and food was very poor, not used the Taj Mahal for a good while but definitely not the standard I expected or remember from there, possibly just an off night I don’t know but tbh I’d likely not use again it was that bad.
