Taj Mahal in Inverclyde

We go every week and are never disappointed. The owner, the staff, the service and the food are excellent. We have introduced so many of our friends and family who now are also regulars. If you haven't been yet please go and see for yourself that my comments are so justified.

As always a great restraunt. All the staff are friendly and tentative. Lovely decor and views over the Clyde and beyond. There is an extensive menu with great culinary delights awaiting your sensory pallet. The Khodi Glassi lamb last night was awesome with a dash of Whisky in the gravy sauce it just melted in the mouth. If your in the area it's a must visit at a very reasonable price.

On a visit to Gourock tried to book the Taj Mahal restaurant. Sadly the restaurant was fully booked. We decided to book on our next visit avoiding disappointment. We were delighted we booked, as the restaurant was very busy. I know now why! We were greeted by the owner a very nice man, shown to our table which gave us a super view of the River Clyde. The food was of a very high standard and presented by very friendly professional staff. Overall a most pleasant experience. Thank you.

Received take away tonight and food was very poor, not used the Taj Mahal for a good while but definitely not the standard I expected or remember from there, possibly just an off night I don’t know but tbh I’d likely not use again it was that bad.

We enjoyed both starters ,fish curry wasn't the best,the chicken dish was good and both mains were large portions. Never asked for dessert menu, but it was given to us when all we wanted was a coffee, which wasn't offered.

Last night was our second time at this restruant and everything is just perfect. The staff can’t do enough for you make you feel very special. Food amazing.

Got two meals to carry out, they were just plates of water and lamb was chewy

Popped in for quick lunch and a beer with my son Saturday 13th January and what a find! Excellent service and the waiter was super-helpful in his recommendations. Will definitely be back.

There’s a reason this is the best Indian restaurant in Inverclyde and one of Gourock’s gems 💎. The food is so fresh, tastes amazing and it’s consistently high quality. The staff who work here are friendly, helpful and work so hard to make each customer feel valued. Lots of personal touches, nothings a bother and if you become a regular, you’ll build a relationship with them where they remember your likes, your name and your family’s preferences too. They are an amazing team 👏🏼 I cannot wait to go on Xmas day this year as I know it’s going to be amazing. Don’t choose anywhere else. This is the best! ⭐️

The food is phenomenal and to die for… the staff are just wonderful… so attentive and the little extras along with the outstanding service makes this place. Please please please pay it a visit. My parents just feel a million dollars every visit. They are elderly and the owners make them feel so special.

As Indians go - the taj in Gourock is pretty good. The nan breads can be a bit hit and miss but I like it! Made the mistake of asking for extra hot! It was fire! Lesson learned :)

I can't rate my experience highly enough - we had the best food and service at Taj Mahal. We had a variety of curries - vegetarian, meat and fish all were delicious. My 7 year old nephew was treated so well by the attentive staff and loved his first taste of chicken pakora and garlic nan bread so much he couldn't eat his kids' meal. Will definitely be back soon !

Dreadful this is our treat and indulgence! But tonight’s meal was so bad!! We have used this restaurant both to dine and carry out for years! Loads of missing parts from our takeout and just lost the flavours from our usual. Shame we won’t be back x

From the moment I booked a table to the moment we paid the bill everything was five star. I hadn’t eaten here in 20 years and thought it would be nice to try it and get away from the sweet dishes served up in Dunoon. This place did not disappoint on flavour and just the right amount of kick. The staff were very friendly and we felt very comfortable in the surroundings. Have used the Taj Mahal - eat in and take away - for years, and have never been disappointed....until last night.Ordered a take away for the family and everything seemed wrong, from the various curries to the honey chicken wings which were more like strips of chicken pakora and pashwani nan which resembled a plain nan which had seen better days.The finaL straw was the stomach upset which followed the chicken passanda.Not sure if there's a new chef on board, but would strongly recommend that the usual chef be reinstated as a matter of urgency.

Hadn't used "The Taj" for a couple of years but decided to head down for dinner last minute . Food it has to be said was excellent. I tried the parsee fish dish and was incredibly tasty. The other two dishes; lamb butter masala and chicken nashilee were equally as tasty. The mixed starter for 3 was well worth the money. All washed down with a couple of beers. Good value for money also. Would definitely return soon if food is at this standard. Only downside as people have mentioned is the constant stream of takeaway meals being sent out. Slightly ruins the experience but don't think there is much they could do about that. At least it shows the food is good quality with amount of orders.

Bought a carry out and when I got home, the riata was bubbling, like fermenting beer. Must have been left over from last night outside the fridge. Smelled horrible. Likewise the peshwari nan, as usual it was like leather. The curries themselves are nice, such a pity they cut corners to squeeze an extra buck. Place is busy enough to do well without this nonsense. Been a few occasions when I get home and part of the order is missing. Cant think of any local competition, it tells!

Booked a table for three for 8.00 pm on Monday 23 December.Duly arrived at the restaurant on time to be advised that table would be available shortly The only vacant table seated two so was not available to our party.We were directed to wait in the take away area, waited for 25 mins during this period we were told by different members of staff that our table were “paying their bill” And would be free shortly or alternatively “we are readying your table right now “ all a load of nonsense .....we left at 8.25pm and met another group outside in the same situation.Entire evening a disaster went to the pub for a pint and some crisps....disappointing in the extreme

Tonight my husband and I ordered a meal from Taj Mahal. We used to order regular meals every Saturday some time ago but decided on a change. So tonight re placed an order for delivery Omg it was so fresh hot and fantastic food from the pakora to chicken chat toOur curries . I had a chicken celyonise it was delicious absolute best Indian I have tasted so thank you and we will be regulars going forward most Saturdays well done Mrs Reid . My wife and I A long time ago frequented this restaurant for both sit in and carry out one night with a carry out when we got home the meal was still frozen in the centre we called down and were instructed by the staff to bring it back and they would serve another meal we have never been back since

We (a table for four) waited an hour and 35 minutes for our meal. Meanwhile bags of takeaway food were constantly whizzing past us. We felt that we were in a takeaway shop rather than a restaurant. No tablecloths any more, no little vases on the table. Just formica tables. No music and absolutely no ambience. The service was non existant and trying to catch someone to order up some drinks as they whizzed past with bags to all the people standing round waiting for their carry outs was impossible. Wont be back.

If you like the smell of bleach as you enter, or pushy table service... perhaps a table next to a waiter on his break eating a Dominos pizza from the box or a view of a conveyor belt of takeaways being distributed through the middle of the restaurant floor - then this is the place for you. Never again for us. Food was underwhelming too. Good view of the Clyde though.
