Taco in Scottish Borders

First time here, food was excellent and really tasty. Got 4 tacos for £10 and the sauce selection was great! Owner was very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

This is a little hidden gem if you like authentic Mexican street food. We did a quick Google search for reasonably priced food nearby to where we were visiting and found this little place (set in the former greggs shop) If you’re expecting a ‘regular’ dining experience, you won’t get it here, but if you want a no frills, tasty, authentic bite to eat, Taco - Mexican Food is your place to pop in. Price wise, it’s not bad. Your basic taco with either chicken, pork, beef or veggies were £2.70 each. Burrito with either chicken, beef or veggie was about £8.50 for medium or £9.70? for a large, same price for quesadillas. A fantastic range of homemade salsas with various heat ranges were in jars on the table and they were delectable! Really, really good flavour profiles that complement the food perfectly. Apparently the salsas can be purchased to take home if you take your own jar however as we were just passing through during our little borders holiday, an empty jar was not something that we had to hand 😂 If we lived locally, we’d definitely support this little business frequently as it’s a struggling little jewel in the Galashiels crown.

This place is an absolute gem. Stopped off earlier today having just been at the market, so friendly. Freshly cooked food, and a massive range of fresh sauces - definitely worth a visit!

Delightful, delicious, Spicy food with an excellent, friendly host. Very reasonably priced, too. A choice of seven sauces arrayed in order of heat :-)

Absolutely loved this place! We just found it through a friend and have all left very satisfied. The food is delicious, the sauces are to die for and the lovely man who runs/cooks/serves is just a doll. So helpful and passionate. Plenty to choose from and the sodas are yummy too! We can't wait to go back - regularly! Definitely recommend!

We had a fantastic chimichanga and some out of world home made nachos. The owner was very helpful with the orders and nice. It was a classic example of "don't judges book by the cover" the venue looks very simple at first look, but the food was outstanding! Good luck

Looked at the menu and went for some dinner,we opted to sit in ,unfortunately it wasn’t a good experience,we asked for a sharing platter which consisted of chicken done in a fajita rub,wedges and onion ring’s from the oven and loaded fries which were undercooked and had water in the bottom of the bowl,as a result 2 out of the 3 of us have food poisoning as a result of the chicken being barely cooked,hygiene was not good also.

I was charged £8 extra for the salad , beans , rice and salsa that came with both the dishes anyway ( so the menu stated) that I ordered for a take out and was Informed that i was charge extra for these because I was not eating in! I do not mind paying more for the take out trays but reckon 4 would only cost around a £1 anyway. I would not go back!

The food is absolutely amazing, tacos are really well balanced in flavour and the pork melts in your mouth, absolutely brilliant nachos, lamb sandwich and chicken fajita sandwich. The owner was lovely and helpful in picking sauces with recommendations on what you should get depending on your spice tolerance, Highly recommended!

Fresh, flavourful at a very reasonable price. Ate chicken wings which where delicious and the tacos where good, asked for beef, got chicken. Regardless, it was banging. I would of been more upset but the chicken was next level. Wish this establishment was around when I was a student at HW. Looks like the gentleman has just recently started up in Galasheilds so finger cross it becomes popular with the locals. Interior/kitchen hopefully gets investment and a cleaning rota introduced then TACO has the potential to be thee place in Galasheilds. Had take away from here more than once, love the chicken or pulled pork soft shell tacos! A but messy to eat but I didnt mind cause the flavours are great!Going to try the quesadillias next time! Really friendly server. Very basic place to eat compared to some restaurants.

If you are out and about in Gala and get hungry then walk past Greg's and go straight to A taste of Mexico! The food is absolutely fantastic! The place has a community feel to it. It's great to eat knowing your supporting a local business. :)

went in with my brother for lunch the owner was really nice and welcoming we order 2 tacos some spicy chicken wings and 4 Mexican sodas. it was reasonably priced and it was the best tacos and chicken was i have had, definitely recommend if u are ever passing by.

Not a week goes by where I don't miss having a local taqueria, even in these cold and dark and rainy January days. I've even daydreamed about opening one but written it off due to incompatibility with Scotland's weather. Taco, however, has sussed it out. With its big windows on the corner of the block and musica tropicale, its reminiscent of nights spent dining outside in Mexico. Please support this establishment so that we may all enjoy some energising tacos and cooling agua fresca this summer.

The interior is basic but don’t let that put you off, wonderful food and great service. We’ll be back.

One of the best takeaways in Gala and some of the best mexican food I have ever tasted. Always prepared fresh and always full of flavor. Brilliant portions and great prices. Everyone should try it.

The foods and flavours were delicious although a little too spicy when I ordered not spicy. Also when ordering a large burrito if a bigger wrap could be used as felt the one used was not large. Portion size aka salads etc matched to price.

This man is so rude he asked me if I minded while he went to kitchen, I said yeah that’s fine I will wait.. then he came back out and asked me to HURRY UP and do my order as he was busy in the back,, no wonder this restaurant has no customers if he talks to people like that.. and I asked for the vegetables on my taco and he said he had none ready just shows how rubbish that place if there is no food cooked how he is open I do not know.and I have only gave that one Star as it wouldn’t let me post without adding it

Came across this restaurant while on holiday in the area. We were delighted with it. Best Mexican food I've had. It even catered for my meat loving teenager with an enormous burger, and for my fussy son with some less spicy menu options. We had homemade nachos to start, which were delicious. Only wish we lived closer, so we could go more often. Chef was lovely and the price of the meal was really, really reasonable. They've suffered due to Covid, and deserve lots of custom.

Lovely family run business. We're on holiday and ordered food from here picked up and all had it in holiday home it was lovely would recommend.

We had a fabulous meal here on Saturday evening. There is a good menu, plenty of indoor seating and it's in a good location next to the town hall. Service was fantastic, fun and engaging. Our food arrived quickly, the portions were a good size and it was delicious. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Out shopping stopped for lunch. Had beef burrito beef nachos and beef enchiladas. The whole thing was stunning. So tasty. Service was a bit slow due to the new girl who had only just started but she was coping admirably . I expected ground beef but it was chunky and tender and the flavours were the best I’ve had in many years as I love Mexican. Well recommended for such a small establishment it did well. Can’t wait to go again. Called in this week for nachos to go . Got the chocolate version and the flavours were stunning got new green salsa too yum bough some extra for home it tasted so great. I ordered an enchilada there for lunch and after a little while my bowel couldn’t handle the extreme heat from it and I knew I had to drop a tactical nuke in the toilet. I had to wobble over to the toilet and I absolutely destroyed it but overall a good experience would come again lovley food.

We Stopped in this little hidden gem for lunch today and we where so glad we did. Food was absolutely amazing so fresh and flavourful. The owner Matthew couldn't have been any nicer and went out his way to make you feel welcome. Nothing was to much trouble. He even takes the time to ask how spicy or hot you would like your dish and explains the menu options so it suits everyone's taste . The homemade salsa and dips where by far the best I have ever tasted so flavourful . The chimichangas are a huge must . Every thing we ordered was 10/10 . Will definitely be back any chance we get many thanks for a lovely meal

Excellent food and service, and a very friendly owner!! I was told that the cook has worked with Mexican food for 25 years and it definitely shows. I highly recommend the quesadillas, but if you can't handle your spice, make sure to ask for mild spiciness. An overall great experience, thank you :)

Lovely veggie food, great use of vegetarian haggis which worked surprisingly well. Owner was really friendly without being stifling and happy to answer any questions.

I've had quite a few burritos over the years. I love burritos. And this beef burrito I just had was up there with the best. Fabulous slow-cooked beef and very spicy. Absolutely top-notch.

Good Food and a very nice owner!

Some of the reviews on here are unkind, and unfair. We've eaten here several times. The food is always fresh, tasty, and excellent value for money. You are allowed to bring your own alcohol which makes this an affordable eating experience - very important if you are holidaying on a budget. This is not an overpriced restaurant serving disappointing food (and there is more than one of these in Berwick - we were stung twice this week at two other establishments). It is what it is: a clean, welcoming space serving good, simple Mexican food at a fair price. Yes, it could be improved upon in terms of service and ambience. The owner welcomes suggestions on this. This is one of the few restaurants in Berwick that we return to. I hope people read this review and give Taco a chance.

Really love Mexican food and was super excited to finally be able to get Mexican food in town, however, the food I received wasn’t great and was a far cry from what I would have expected. I chose the tacos and they came in a box where everything looked as though it had been thrown around. The grease the had come from the food was so much that it had made the taco shells soggy. The taco shells that hadn’t succumbed to the sogginess were stale and chewy and weren’t pleasant. The meat was okay, but was very spicy and quite tough to eat. I think it would have been nicer if there was less spice. There was also the most minuscule tub of guacamole for 3 tacos. An amount I’d expect for perhaps just one taco as well as no other condiments you’d expect with tacos. I always give a place a second chance when I have a negative experience but this was the same both occasions. All in all, I was highly disappointed and for the price I paid I’d have expected a lot more and better quality.

Lovely friendly service and truly delicious food - very glad we found Taco!

I have eaten at a lot of different restaurants and this by far is the worst. The nachos were the quality of Tesco value. Only one dish out of five was hot, and the rest was stone cold. The chicken had a lot of gristle through it. Overall, the food quality was extremely poor. Would not go back there if I was starving. Nasty food. I felt like I would get food poisoning if I took more than one bite.

Over priced food cooked in the microwave. Has staff slaving after him only to steal tips and refuse to pay staff, wants you to work for nothing. As for the food, please be careful when ordering any of the dishes as the chef touches raw meat, his cigarettes and much more without washing his hands before prepping food. This has been brought to his attention on numerous occasions by his employed staff. I wouldn't reccommend at all.

Food was great and the service was excellent. If I had to criticise, the decor could get refreshed. But still, I would definitely go again.

Stopped in for lunch for the first time with my dad, got beef Enchiladas,so tasty, I could of eaten another one. Service was good, lovely young lady survived us and great job to the chef. I will be back with the kids and family for more delicious Mexican food

This was a nice little find on our way to Edinburgh. We were looking for a supper stop so I read the reviews and decided to give it a go. The building is in need of some repairs but is clean and the staff are helpful. The food was so tasty and very fresh, and the price was brilliant. Worth a visit.

Super hospitable and amazing Mexican food!

Absolutely disgusting. Overpriced frozen garbage that is not even remotely mexican. Paid 26 pounds for two polystyrene trays - one meant to be a sharing platter for 16 quid was just frozen wedges, 4 chicken wings, some falafels that had the consistency of coal and 3 chicken strip s that were dry as sticks. The othe box was a burrito which was edible but a 5/10 at most. I really would avoid this place - its as mexixan as Billy connoly and twice as dry.

Great place with nice service and good tasty food. Looking for something different to pub food and usual Chinese we can across this place searching for food and Berwick upon Tweed. As our family like to try different foods and like spicy foods we decided to give this one a whirl. We were not to be disappointed without choice as the owner was very hospitable and did everything he could to make us feel welcome. He did say this was a new restaurant was new so was still putting the final touches to the decor, which did not bother us one bit, as the decor was very vibrant and had already a Mexican feel. On to the food. The food choices we as you would expect so the whole family went for our usual starters of mixed nachos and main of burritos. We did up our main to large, which in hindsight was a little too much, with a starter. The food came piping hot, the meat extremely succulent and the sauces tasty and spicy. You could definitely taste that theses sauces were home made and authentic. All in all if you are looking for tasty Mexican food and something that is well priced I would recommend You visit here.

Our family visited the Taco Mexican restaurant on Marygate in Berwick-upon-tweed first time today, and we where not disappointed. As a starter we shared nachos followed by burritos. The food was served piping hot, and it came with various dips to suit everyone’s taste buds. I personally love spicy food and was able to have my food as hot as I like it. The restaurant caters also for customers who are looking to have a more traditional meal i.e. burger and chips. They also have a children’s menu and it’s a BYOB. All in all a very enjoyable Mexican food experience and would definitely go back if in the area.

Those aren't Mexican but a pretend. Had it last time but nothing to do with it. Sound more like marinated meat/ chicken in Aldi powder then called Mexica. The lads there aren't even Mexicans.
