This is an old established traditional pub with new managers that are doing their best to revitalise it, so good luck But despite the posted opening times, in the evening there is no guarantee it will be open. It seems the staff have been given directions that if the pub is empty they can close up and not let customers in! So If you expect a late drink after say 9pm go to weatherspoons in stead, its a dump but will be open.

it makes me wonder how some of these pubs survive - been in a few times and even on a Saturday night the place is dead, I can't comment on trade during the rest of the week but it's a sad sign of the times....

A traditional but very tired and unkempt pub. Beer is good and the majority of people who frequent are generally friendly and welcoming. It's significantly let down by its appearance and lack of maintenance. Tired décor, cobwebs and cables hanging from ceilings and fixtures, light bulbs that don't fit or work. The toilets you might use if you are desperate. Many of these can be put right very quickly and at little cost however, there appears to be little desire from the landlord to do so. The soon to be opening of the new nearby theatre, is likely to bring many new visitors to the pub who I imagine will visit just the once and give it a wide berth afterwards. Prescot is on the up and its establishments like this that let it down. This place would benefit greatly from a change in landlord/management.

As one of the last bastions of any decent real ale in Prescot, the Sun Inn has hung in there, and is definately worthy of mention. It has at least two real ales on, well kept, usually nationally sourced. The building is beautiful, but very tired, it has all the basics of its original pub/hotel/inn layout, the toilets still have their original glass windows, it could just do with some investment. It has a nice beer garden, with decking and seats, with the much nicer, previous pub signs adorning the garden walls. The front room is lovely. With some renovation and the ability to source more adventurous ale, and having the custom to maintain it, this pub could be an absolute historic gem.

Very... Folk-y - quite a nice pub, with regular live music (ordinary pub drinkers who just happen to take their guitars !) of a "folk" nature. Very olde-worlde, comparable perhaps to saloons of a century ago. Not sure it's entirely to my taste, hence the 4 stars.

We came here as we live local and have been before but today was very dissapointing, to start with my husband picked up some menu's which were all wet and sticky tried looking for different ones but they were also the same (wipe them over) we ordered drinks coffee and an apple juice which was served warm, we ordered a small breakfast each, whilst it came out to us fairly quickly it really wasn't the best, the plate underneath was very greasy so when you tried to move your plate around your hands were also covered in grease (yuk) we didn't get what we asked for ... we asked for scrambled eggs and got fried, we asked for white toast and got burnt brown toast, and the beans had absolutely not been cooked like they had just been served cold straight from a tin, the bacon was also rock solid you couldn't cut it without a fight, it was also greasy, it really wasn't worth the money we had paid, dissapointing and absolutely not on, will not be returning which is a shame as the experience we had previously was totally different, the surroundings are beautiful but food was an absolute let down.

Update: It's closed! 😔 So sad. First time I've been here since management changed. It's really nice, the food and service is excellent. Just by a lake with views out onto it with a large patio area. It's perfect for breakfast and lunch with generous portions. Marginally higher prices that the area, but a much nicer experience! Also are now beginning to open for small plates in the evening.
