Starboy Grill Restaurant & Bar in Thurrock

The food is a hit or miss! The jollof is really nice but recently it’s been overcooked and sometimes I’ve been given burnt rice. The sassing has so much potential it actually always tastes bitter and burnt. The plantain and fried yam is good.

Service is crazy slow, you order way in advance (atleast an hour) you turn up to the restaurant to your surprise they haven’t started the food. Very frustrating. Misleading customers.

Deliveries are always not ready, please respect the drivers. We drive to your place, we take our time, and you say it is not ready. The problem is that you ignore the incoming delivery calls and only respond when the driver arrives. Please fix this. Thank you very much

I walked into the shop and immediately felt unwelcome, as I noticed stares and what seemed like dirty looks from the staff. When I went to order with the manager, I received the same negative attitude and was told it would be a 30-minute wait for just one shawarma, which cost £12. After waiting the full 30 minutes, I was told it still wasn’t ready, so I ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes. I did notice that only one staff member seemed to be doing all the work, which I felt bad about, but that’s not my fault as a customer. While the shawarma itself was decent, for £12, I expected a much better experience overall. Between the poor customer service, excessive wait time, and underwhelming food, I don’t plan on returning .

Star Boy Grill in Essex serves some of the best African food I've had—it's now my go-to after trying all the top spots in London and Essex. The Jollof rice is incredible, easily some of the best I've tried, and the plantains are always perfectly cooked, never too ripe or too hard. If you're craving great Suya, this place is a must. The owner’s hospitality and the lively music create an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

fish was unnecessarily spicy, too hot and lacking flavour. I don't mind spice but this was too much. food finished but not enjoyable. this jollof was alright. unfortunately won't buy from here again.

Nice pleasant service. I bought the Asun. I wouldn't buy it again but will go back to try something else..... So I have been back to try the Beef Suya, a personal favourite, and the only thing disappointing was the wait time, especially as I called ahead to order. It was delicious I'd say a solid 7.5 maybe even 8 out of ten any time I'm in the area I will be stopping by again. Note to self call an hour ahead next time.

Definitely the best asun, suya and sharwarma in this part of the UK. Highly recommended. I would advise to call ahead then pick up at the allocated time as it's very popular and busy.

After receiving numerous recommendations, I decided to visit Starboy Grill with my friends, and I must say, it ranks among the finest African restaurants I've ever experienced. The cuisine was exceptional, the service truly remarkable, and the ambiance simply delightful. I look forward to revisiting with both friends and family in tow. The owner's warm and welcoming demeanor added to the overall positive experience.

Went there to buy a wrap. absolutely amazing taste and filling! few seats for you to catch up with friends. friendly staff and atmosphere. can't wait to go back. Great spot for Nigerian food.

It’s one thing to look great on Instagram but then another actually frictionlessly taking and delivering food orders efficiently let alone to scale-up and increase volume 💷 Enjoy the Nigerian cuisine but not the service I get from the restaurants due to a lack of empathy or consideration towards the disabled customer (church-mind does not apply here for some reason). Starboy was recommended by a friend so I patronized the business when it was operating out of a food van in a pub car park in South Ockendon. Even back then it wasn’t easy getting assistance so, I’d have to bring someone along with me to ensure things went okay. Drove an hour to the new shop in Grays yesterday as I promised to visit and I fancied some Suya. Called 📞through my order, and checked it would be okay attend to me in the car parked just outside the restaurant and was told reluctantly it was (given a 30min timeframe) so I sat and waited. Saw customers troop in and leave with their food and no sign of mine, no signal to say they were working on mine. At the hour mark and tired of seeing customers I was ahead of leave with theirs I gave up and called it a day and set off on my hour drive home. Sadly this experience is the norm for me personally when it comes to interacting with Nigerian restaurants; I never leave feeling great. I have always believed Nigerians were pure business minded people so I am shocked regularly as I don’t see a business sense for turning a paying and repeat customer away like this. It would be fair to ask whether this experience would be the same regardless of the type of food I would go for generally but I can tell you it is NOT. I can order a Chinese take away now, pop round 🚗 there, ring📞 and tell them “I am collecting my order and would need help bringing it to the car parked right outside the shop, because I have a problem walking” and confidently know they’d oblige and the whole thing would be over in 5mins and they’d be a smile involved too (to me that’s real business). Same thing if I go Indian or Turkish 🇹🇷 or cafés, in fact the manager of a Sri Lankan🇱🇰 restaurant I go to gave me his mobile number so I could pre order and he’d get me attended to in the car when I stop outside (with great politeness and smiles). But my own people at Starboy don’t seem to give a damn, what a great let down! But on a positive note, their Instagram page is 🔥 lit so that’s all that matters I guess. I thought that business was simply to get the customer what they want, take the money, smile and make them want to come back (the McDonald way) but oh no not here at Starboy. Anyway, from now on I’m sticking to places that are happy to see me and my money from now on. Sorry about the rant.

The best joint to eat right now! Went with my beautiful family and ordered a variety of their dishes like asun, sharwama, tuzo beef, fried yam, Jollof rice & every single dish was a HIT!!!! Wished we live nearby so as to visit every day! Can’t wait to come again. Thank you.

I have been to starboy a few times now and i can honestly say the food is fantastic… the mixed sharwama, suya, chicken suya all good still need to try other things on the menu but i am definitely giving the restaurant a thumbs up. Absolutely love it..
