Pleasant place to sit and relax

Didn't do food service was lousy as the bartenders didn't know how to do a cocktail will not be coming back

Food was reasonably priced and good sized portions. Staff were friendly and the beer was good

The carpet had a fusty smell, and they dont show sporting events.

Went into the lion and star before work for a spot of lunch was greeted and seated by the staff on shift I ordered the dirty denvor fries the food that arrived at my table was amazing and the portions where huge compliments to the chef on today will certainly be back

The staff are always really lovely and helpful and go the extra mile to make sure everything's right. We've been a few times and the steak meals are fantastic and great value. The food is delicious and the Lion and Star serves the best onion rings ever! It could do with a wee make over but the food and service make up for that.

Popped in for lunch with family. Were seated quickly with drinks orders taken. Didn't have to wait long for our order, food was delicious hot and fresh with huuge portions, definitely come here again!

Steak dinner and bottle of wine. Delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Cozy comfortable dining. 👍

Amazing food and nice staff. It has a really nice ambiance, but at the same time if feels like a small town pub. The menu is good, and it has offers for everyone, even vegetarians, and what we ordered was pretty amazing. Will definitely go back when around, and recommend!!

After being regulars at Lion & Star for food & cocktails, which we always enjoyed we have been very disappointed in our last 2 visits. Change of staff and menu are not good at all. Staff unhelpful and quite ignorant at times. Also not as good at making cocktails. Change in food menu is a big disappointment. Unfortunately not our favourite place anymore 😕

Started with a sharing plate and couple of side dishes.... Food was great and far lore than we expected. Service waz quick and staff were very attentive. Great place for lunch.

After waiting 3 hours for a delivery the boxes came on there side in the bag. Orders wrong, pink burgers, what's the point in complaining, it was on its way for over an hour. Gave them a chance after last years 'manky kitchen' pictures on social media. Never again will they get my money. Really need an option for no stars.

I came here once restaurants reopened after lockdown. I order a chicken and pasta dish which had a strange smell to it. I told the waiter who said it was just the sauce but you know when something isn’t right!! I didn’t eat it and I’m glad I didn’t as Hubby had something different and was sick later that night. I’ll never set foot in there again! If I could give a place no stars, I would

Really enjoyed my visit to the lion and star. Its always a place I've felt relaxed and most comfortable. I always have my americano. I used to have my slice of delicious cake, but I'm dieting just now, so that's out the window unfortunately. I would absolutely recommend this place both to have drinks, whether that's soft drinks to alcohol drinks or to sit down and have a meal , from a wide choice of their delicious menu.

AVOID Really poor experience i had to cancel my food delivery after 2 hours of unfulfilled promises and am still waiting on a refund 2 months later...AVOID

Food was awesome, only down side was every 2 mins you were asked if everything was OK

I am a regular customer here and until now I’ve never been disappointed with my order. We ordered a burger, the Lyon grill, potato skins, and a dessert. The burger and chips were delicious but missing coleslaw. The Lyon grill was over cooked and missing sausage, egg, and garlic bread. The potato skins and lemon cake were also missing from the order. Instead we received a container with some blob of I don’t know what and half a spoilt cheesecake. I would like to give the restaurant a chance to rectify the situation but the phone is off the line. UPDATE: I was contacted by manager Simon who was very apologetic and concerned with how the order turned out the way it had. He ammended the situation and sent out a new order of food. Absolutely delicious! Im very happy with how the situation was handled in the end.

Absolutely shocking service and food standard. Order was short and what was delivered was not eating . Edit.... I've reached out to the senior management team as requested and still no reply they clearly only answered on Google for show.

This place was a five star but now chef ramsay should pay them a visit. There chef could not cook to save him or herself. Sorry to say that the toilet stinks and our whole meal had to be sent back and just ordered steak and chips. The starter was tiger prawns and sauce but go ordinary prawns in batter. Sent back. Check out Facebook as about 300 comments and photos from a worker who left after 3 weeks. I would happily be employed go round and exposing the bad restaurants. Cheers.

2 years ago I left a 5 star review. I was in last week, first time in months, i discovered a new manager, not impressed with the attitude, the staff are amazing and I think he should get a few pointers from them on how to interact with a customer. Then there is the food, we had breakfast and i have to say, i was left, well dumbfounded, to say the least, who puts a small amount of salad leaves on top of your breakfast. My order was wrong, but after waiting almost an hour, it was NOT busy, I ate it but I can honestly say it was not upto the same standards as before. I have almost £60 worth of vouchers left and they will now be wasted, as I will not be back, so the lovely people who gave me them, I apologise. You should br shut down after the pictures I have seen. Utterly disgusting

Had lunch today on the eat out to help out scheme. Food as always, was yummy and the atmosphere was pleasant. We expected to wait a bit longer due to current restrictions but 50mins is a long time to wait for 2 mains, and 20mins for 2 soft drinks. Service needs to speed up.

I placed an order through just eat tonight, and was told order would be here for 19.55 , i placed order at 18.20, an adult and kids meal. Order is late so went back on to just eat to be told order will be with me at 20.55. I have tried to call the restaurant 18 times it is constantly engaged or off the hook. This is ridiculous service. My child is hungry and i don't want to be giving him a meal at 9pm when going to bed soon. I asked to cancel the order and was told i would need to pay half of the price off the meal. Total joke will never order or eat in the restaurant again!!! Service is appalling

Ordered at 18.10 told to expect delivery at 18.55 i called them at 19.30 told it would be another 30 minutes i.e. 20.00 called again at 20.10 told it would be another 20 minutes so cancelled order my advice would be avoid

Ate in this place often before, got take away tonight and was sadly disappointed. Chips 're heated, and dry, cheese garlic bread soggy, chicken skewers bland and all not particularly warm.

Food very poor had chilly wich was made from the spaghetti sauce wich had been frozen wich made it tasteless wich is a shame as had other things on the menu wich are really good

Great wee pub , great for families of which there are not enough & staff are great , few more wee things for kids would be great, or a screen for kids

4 stars for the actual pub. 1 star for value. A pint of Heineken is 50% more expensive than the Kirky Puffer just up the road.

Excellent food and friendly staff

I once ate 44 plates at a Yo Sushi all you can eat hour. I was defeated by Lion and Star's £8 veggie burger. So. Much. Food. And it was really nice. The £9 ploughman's would have been enough for two of us, and was beautifully presented. We needed a doggy bag, which they provided (cardboard, not polystyrene!) Staff were super friendly and attentive. Extensive cocktail menu and a variety of draught offerings. Wheelchair accessible entrance, though toilets were tucked away at the back so a bit of a slalem with a mobility aid. There's a children's area away from the bar, and booths can be reserved. Music not loud, but it's a medium sized venue so patrons were quite loud :D

Nice place friendly staff. Food always fresh and tasty. Good they offer table service and a tab when your eating in. Beer was a little expensive especially with a wetherspoons across the road competing. Would recommend this place though.

2 meals were cold sent back to the kitchen,told we would not be charged but this was changed to 3 free sweets,totally unacceptable,even the waitress seemed uninterested

Very overpriced menu for very bad food. I could only recommend this place for a drink. Nice atmosphere but food is worse than a wetherspoons for double the price.

Food delicious, staff are friendly and helpful, can be hit or miss in the evenings at weekends whether its busy or not. Price of drinks are a bit high for a pub diner in Kirkintilloch but not prohibitively so. Real world is you don't really get much change from a tenner for a couple of pints. All said and done nice friendly atmosphere, prodominant age group seems to be late thirties plus but that is observations only from my limited experience there. It may be quite different I'm sure during the week and through the day. Worth a visit.

Take away menu fantastic. Always hot and well cooked. A lot of home favourites , reasonable prices and healthier than your chippy , Chinese, curries etc. Give it a go.

Met up with a friend for some dinner 20/02/19. Place was nicely decorated and very clean. Firstly it took over 20 mins for someone to come and take our order , we then didn't get the right food. We had ordered a burger with bacon and cheese and were brought a chicken , bacon and cheese burger. We ordered Scampi and were brought Fish N Chips. My friend send the fish back and it was immediately changed. I decided to keep the burger as it did look nice and i wasn't too bothered . The food was all very tasty and was huge portions. The waiter did apologise and gave us a free ice cream sundae however after such big portions we were not able to eat very much of it. Tasty food but staff seemed more interested in their phones than paying attention.

A complete turn around from the previous establishment. Popped in for some lunch, staff were welcoming and friendly and even provided some distraction for my three year old daughter. Food was well prepared and the my choice of the club sandwich was a home run. A real hidden local gem of a restaurant. Bar looked really well stocked also and a great selection of soft drinks. We'll be back!

Friendly atmosphere, lovely staff , great place

Although the staff very helpful and the place is nice, the food wasn't, I had the Cajun chicken pasta, disgusting, pasta well over cooked and the chicken was like frozen chicken cubes. Maybe ok for a drink, but would definitely not recommend eating here.

Dropped in for dinner on the way home. Not disappointed 😋 The steak pie and the scampi with chips with skins were delicious. The staff were very welcoming and it was spotless. Our meal deal was fantastic, with two mains and a bottle of Prosecco for £20 available on Thursdays.
