Shapla in Armagh

My friend and myself Went here for dinner before going the the theatre, I got the veg pakora starter, its was so fresh and the sauce was beautiful combined together absolutely outstanding, for the main I got chicken madras and rice, it’s was delicious hot and fiery just how I like it and the garlic nan was just what was need to make this meal a 10/10 staff are lovely and attentive, the restaurant was beautiful and clean, never got kept waiting for dinner it was out in plenty of time and piping hot great price first time eating here but it won’t be my last.

So I have been a loyal customer at this place for years. Sadly, I have been let down so many times with late deliveries & bad attitude when I call to enquire where my food is (usually an hour late). I kept going to them as felt there was not a decent Indian in Armagh. I’m done now, I will NOT give this restaurant any more time or money. I have been let down again - service is awful, food was good now just ok & customer service is absolutely appalling!!!!!!

What can I say. This restaurant has the potential to become my number one favourite restaurant of all time. The quality of the service never mind the stunning variety of exquisite Indian cuisine is second to none. I genuinely have difficulty in driving past it without calling in. Every meal I've had in the restaurant or takeaway that I've ordered or shared has been simply delicious. On our most recent visit we had the mixed tandoori and lamb sheek starter them a mixed balti and king prawn Vindaloo with onion and pilau rice and saag aloo and peshwari naan along with the obligatory papadoms and sauces. No two dishes or sauces were the same. And each item stood out on its own merits. I cannot rate this restaurant enough. Food is epic and value for money. An Armagh gem.

Ordered online ,no salad as requested, luke warm,sauces all unidentifiable not what ordered ,overpriced 18.50 for a Kebab an a starter ? Customer service non existent ,after a phone call I was told nothing wrong with my order as he personally attented to and he forgot lettuce ! Order was mixed Kebab and salad with garlic sauce !

Have been going here for years! The last 3 orders have been wrong, first two times I rang they were ok apologised and that was it but frustrating non the less! The third time the guy argued with me down the phone, blamed me and was very rude.After a lengthy phone-call he apologised and told me they would send out the correct order and guess what the food NEVER ARRIVED! Very disappointed and will never use this place again! I hope they can improve their customer service

Food as always excellent I eat in here and order delivery but last 2 deliveries have arrived over 40mins b4 requested time and as I was still at work not good last time it arrived 15 mins early I rang about my delivery they argued with me on phone that I had my time wrong NO I have the emails to prove it thanks to a kindly member of staff it was all sorted but has put a bad taste in my mouth regarding ordering delivery again even though food is amazing PLEASE shapla sort this out b4 people go elsewhere

Absolutely atrocious! Placed an order for delivery at around 6:30pm. Website said 8pm. No problem. After numerous phone calls food arrives at 9:40pm. Then we get to my jalfrezi, pure water. Worst I have ever had and that says something. Even on the phone the service was pathetic. Very very poor, won’t make that mistake again!

Got take away from Shapla while on a long weekend in Armagh City. We had popadoms and 4 dips, 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides and naan bread for the princely sum of £40.40. The food was delicious particular the prawn purie starter and the Jalfrezi main. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. It was a real treat and very good value for money. I'll definitely be back.

Very disappointed completely mess up my order delivery slow won't be back again

I found the food to be very bland and tasteless also extremely small portions. Would not recommend..

I was in the restaurant this afternoon and I want in to get some Indians when I eat the Indians my wife said to me that she don’t feel ok when I left the restaurant my wife said to me I need to go hospital her head was spinning when we got to hospital my wife fainted and as well the staff was very rude to me I was trying to take my wife out for a bit of food and now this has happened to here and I have video proof of how ignorant the staff was, and how bad the food was took samples of the food to get them tested so I will update you soon and anybody who wants to see :(

Such a nice place to eat in, the food was absolutely amazing. The staff make you feel welcome and friendly, they are willing to take time to explain any questions you have be about the food they serve. Chicken tikka masala was define. My wife loved the chicken curry.

Very unique chilled out experience

The food was great. I had the dansak and the aloo gobi. Both delicious. The chapattis were excellent.

I eat here on a one night stop over in Armagh. The service was good, as was the food. A nice chicken madras, good flavour, would recommend.

I think one of the best curry dishes I have eaten. A really great place to go. Highly recommended

Terrible food, takeaway always short of some item, staff cheeky and unpleasant to customers. A waste of money. Please eat elsewhere. My advice try Indian Cottage, Railway St Armagh will not be disappointed with takeaway.

Food is top notch, couldnt fault it!

Had a great meal before a night out in the market theatre, the food was delicious and the service was excellent, the waiter was being trained but the person training him never allowed him to make any mistakes with the customers! He was watching everything the young waiter was doing, they obviously have regular customers as they were coming in and out as we ate, and the boss seemed to know them really well and was very attentive to everyones needs, great food, great atmosphere, and very good value for money, we left absolutely stuffed and enjoyed every bite of the food it was so nice!! We will be returning to Armagh if its just to go to Shapla for a feed!!

We had a celebration meal here for 6 people. I have dined in Indian restaurants everywhere, including India. Shapla can hold its own with any of them. The food was excellent.

Normally get from here and have never been disappointed, but ordered from here last night which the order came to 52 pound bit expensive for a takeaway for two but didn't mind as I've always thought food was lovely .the guy said it would be about an hour which was fine as I know they r busy an hour and half later still no food they couldn't find the right address why not use Google maps food was brought back to shop 2 times so was coming out to us for third time 2 and half hours later I asked the guy will this be cold at 52c pound he couldn't answer so cancelled order at at 12 at night went to bed with no food wont be ordering again such a shame

This was the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. I had a takeaway last night . a chicken tikka biriyani & Peshwari nan. the food was cold and had to be microwaved. The sauce was a brown gloop with a few bits of corn some peas and 2 un chopped onion skins ugh! the nan was like rubber & the tikka was not cooked in a tandoori oven, and was very very chewy The rice instead of being saffron infused and lightly spiced was instead just fried rice. I have eaten Indian food in dozens of Indian restaurants all over London and this food was the pits. They wouldn't know the difference between real Indian food and a hill of beans. Just a bundle of chancers My £11 meal went into the bin.

We ordered a large order to take away this evening through Shapla's app. Everything was piping hot and absolutely gorgeous as always. Great spot, definately worth a visit to sit in or take out.

Didn't even receive my takeaway when I rang them he argued with me on the phone telling me I won't be getting my takeaway as the delivery driver has gone back to the resterant. He told me he had try to ring me ( I had no missed calls) then he said the driver couldn't find the house because it was out of town and the roads are dark

Not great. Ordered a rogan josh which was clearly not a rogan josh. It was a sweet curry. Ordered a keema Naan which was clearly not a keema Naan. It was a plain naan. I really don't understand why you don't give people what they order. Your an Indian takeaway and should know that you can't con people in this way. The whole thing lot came to just over £20. Next time I will cook from home as sick of getting ripped off. I will looking to get my money back as well so I can actually buy the ingredients myself and do it properly.

This is a lovely restaurant that serves high quality food. The service is second to none and you are made to feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Lively atmosphere, great food, and excellent staff. The new restaurant manager has returned to the post after a few years working in Dungannon. His return has really improved the restaurant experience in this establishment as he is just a wonderful guy who is attentive to your every need.

A group of six colleagues meet for a catch up twice a year. We have returned to SHAPLA regularly as the food is always delicious and service is consistently friendly, reliable & professionally unobtrusive. Prices charged are fair & affordable. Our visit last night met all expectations and we will definitely meet there again. Very highly recommended.

My husband and I are regulars at this Indian Restaurant. It never fails to deliver on quality and taste. I highly recommend the Garlic Chilli Bhuna or the Bangladesh Chicken Tikka Hot. The service from Kamal is always great. He never pressures us between courses or to leave quickly.

Me & my wife visited Shapla recently and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Indian food. The veg pakora with chilli dip on the side was so tasty, probably the best veg pakora I ever tasted😳 The hot & spicy chicken was fantastic with mushroom rice. Garlic Naan as good as it gets. If you don’t enjoy the food here you probably don’t really know what a good Indian restaurant is😂😂

So this used to be my favourite indian but since it changed ownership, the service has gone drastically downhill. I went with friends 2 months ago and the waiter was very bad mannered and I said I wouldn't go back but 2 weeks ago I thought I would give it another chance, big mistake - the same waiter was serving and his manners were even worse! The food was ok but not as good as a year ago. Definitely won't be back. I have found a better indian in Dungannon and it's worth the journey.

Went in on a tuesday night with family of 9 people. Grumpy waiter from start to finish. Owner seemed nice then when we had finished and paid for the meal. Literally 5mins after they recieved over £120 the owner was at our table asking us to leave as they were busy. They wernt busy as there was us and another couple there. Will not be back near the place again. Very disappointed as this was my first time there.

After having had our very first meal in this restaurant quite a few years ago, we have enjoyed our subsequent visits just as much when in Armagh during festival time. However it’s been a while since we’ve been here.So I’m glad I didn’t read the recent reviews on Trip Adviser before booking a table for eight of us last night. When I learned on arrival that the Shapla had been taken over by new owners three months ago, I was more than a little concerned. However, we discovered that the staff are extremely accommodating, and willingly discussed the food and even came up with a delicious Indian vegetarian dish for my sister-in-law that wasn’t on the menu. We had a range of dishes that included chicken, prawn and vegetables - and for me the sag paneer (Indian curd cheese with spinach) and tarka dhal were probably the stand-out dishes (and I’m not a vegetarian) This was a lovely meal - everything was cooked to perfection and tasty. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was because there was a bit of confusion as to the availability of wine and then the choice was rather limited, but we had Cobra beer which of course goes well with Indian food anyway. No doubt this is just a teething difficulty experienced when taking over a new place, but once the wine list is available this restaurant should do well.

Just been back in Armagh for first time in a couple of years and Shapla was on the hitlist. Food great, restaurant clean, service attentive. The negative reviews are puzzling!

Went last night with work colleagues after long hungry day....walked here having read reviews...nothing good about it at all! Think we are spoilt living in the midlands, but my main course Rogan Josh was pretty much inedible because it was so sweet??? Left it but was not asked why.

Ordered a lamb balti and plain nan bread. The nan was very tasty and the lamb meat tender however the balti itself was lacking the thick rich sauce and instead was substituted with peppers.

Visited the Sharla Indian restaurant in armagh tonight.very relaxed atmosphere friendly and helpful staff.The food was tasty and had really great flavours .the onion bhagees were fantastic.very impressed will definitely visit again

Ordered a delivery told 20 mins phoned up after 45 mins to be told because I complained that the food had not arrived that they were cancelling my order. U mean the food had not been cooked and your piss poor customer service didn't want 2 explain why I was waiting poor poor poor

A fantastic curry house in the heart of Armagh with good fit for a king and prices fit for a pauper. Shockingly good value for money and you can byob. What’s not to like??

Worse ever mixed up order sent meat kebab instead of vegetarian and wouldn’t do anything about it as it was paid for. Food awful. Save your money and starve instead at least you’d be quids in and healthier

Dropped in here for a quicke evening dinner. I've eaten a LOT of Indian and cook a lot of indian and this was right near the bottom. Nothing really nice about the restaurant at all. The menu had pieces of food on it. The server just looked depressed and not a bit welcoming. The food was hit an miss. Had one dish that was nice (unfortunately can't remember the name as it was something "special". Had a byriani and was one of the worst ever, over cooked stodge with no taste. The vegetable curry with it was the worst ever, a bland flavourless sauce with one piece of potato and one lonely green bean. Even adding salt didn't liven this curry up. The naan was just OK, tasty but not cooked in a tandoor as it was way too spongy.

Went in here without any reservation and we got a table but we were informed that they had a party of 8 due in 45 minutes which we agreed to be quick. The man who seated us and took our order was very polite and friendly. Our food was served within 5 minutes even less. The waitress was very rude and abrupt started clearing our table while we were still eating. She couldn't of made us fell any more in the way then she already had.

Staff our welcoming, friendly and go that extra mile for their customers every time. My family and I come here often and always have lovely time with great food and drink. Thank you! Highly recommend this restaurant :)

Shapla would be good to go to any night of the week but on Tuesdays they do run a deal: £10 for a few courses. The food is very tasty, a good variety of poppadum, starters & curries - and the staff are very genuine. Friendly and polite, but not over familiar. Shapla is well worth a visit - it caters takeaway as well, but it's best experienced in the restaurant with a couple of BYOB beers!

Pretty average to low surroundings. Sticky table. Sticky menu. Good service though. Meal delivered quickly. Starters arrived quickly and actually OK to pretty good. Main courses quickly followed and I'd say average to just about above. Naan disappointing as a bit soggy, I've had much better.

What a great find! We were pleasantly surprised by both the food and the helpful, friendly service in this gem which is situated on the edge of town. The extra hot curry was as good as any I've had as was the vegetable Dhansak my girlfriend had it was great value too!! The waiter knew the menu very well indeed and was really helpful in advising food suitable for someone with a wheat allergy. We will definitely be back if we're in town again

The food was great but as I wasn't expecting it to 8.00pm I had been upstairs. At 7.30pm there was a lot of beeping outside my house I went down to see what was going on and realised it was the delivery driver. It was great my food was here but I felt it was quite rude beeping then horn repeatedly outside someone's home especially with a lot of young children in the area going to bed especially as the food was 30mins earlier than expected! the food was lovely though just disappointed at the behaviour of the delivery driver!

Order incomplete. Pieces of red plastic in one of the dishes. Disgrace. Will never order again.

absolutely disgraceful, I love this restaurant but we won't be back, the curries were like water with an orange food colouring poured into it and as for the "TWO" poppadoms we ordered, well what can I say what was in the bag was far from 2 and they were crushed to bits!! so disappointed!!
