Shane’s Traditional Fish and Chips in Bridgend

The staff are always friendly and helpful, portion sizes are great and most importantly, it’s delicious.

Been there once the chips were awful. Thinking it was a one off I went in there again, unwrapped them when I got home and threw them out for the birds. Maybe third time lucky? Nope. Threw them out too. I've mentioned it to friends and neighbours who always used to harp on about how good cefn glas chippie is but I've not had one good experience. The chips are vile if you get them around 4pm, like they put them on the the day before and let them cook overnight. At least the young girl smiled once even though she looked like she just started her Monday morning office job. At least she smiled. Next time she might say hello. They take cash only, yet something like a sum-up card reader isn't expensive and easy to set up. Even finigelans in bryntirion serve up something semi-decent even though you have to pay sky-high prices. I wish I lived nearer to the hospital the chips in that chippie are totally amazeballs.

Food always freshly cooked. Get a card machine. Staff friendly.

Popped in 20mins before closing (5th August 2023) to be told they had just used up all the chips and are not putting anymore on as they are closing soon… I get no establishment wants to waste food which is why you always ensure there is enough for the shift. 3 other people walked in and were all turned away thats 4 paying customers going elsewhere. poor attitude from the staff working and poor management.

Great little chippy, service first class. But fish batter has changed since our last visit, we don’t think this is a change for the better

Lovely to see this chippy run and staffed by people who actually know how to cook chips properly! Chips are perfect as a result instead of being dripping in oil like so many places. We actually travel here when fancying chips because of the quality. Lovely staff too. Well done guys!

Only had pototo fritters but they were beautiful first time trying it from there will definitely go bk nowhere in Bridgend do them

Tried this chip shop recently and it's amazing the food is fresh and the portions are very big the fish is cooked to order and the batter is perfect. I've also tried the curry sauce and the beef pie again great everything is just what you want in a chip shop and the prices are great

Fantastic since Shane took over in the summer. Been here several times recently and is now our go to chippy. Great portion size, lovely staff, and top value pricing. Go Shane!!!

Tried for the first time since Shane took over and must say I couldn’t fault it! The chips were all good and sausage tasty and batter nice and thin (not thick & stodgy). The red curry sauce was also yummy with them. Have no been first time now that Shane’s had time to settle in I must say looks like a job well done. The waiting system is much better so customers aren’t getting wet outside and also specials such as the jumbo sausage, chips, sauce & can of pop for £6 is very reasonable! I would only say perhaps put more emphasis on the specials by putting some A4 posters up to advertise then may be beneficial. Over the years I have seen how the quality of the chip shop went downhill so much under the old management so I’m thrilled it’s back as it should be!

I had fish cake, chips and risole (first time) and boyfriend had fish and chips and curry sauce absolutely smashing. It was so easy to take batter off fish too for someone who doesn’t like batter and was cooked properly 😊

Just moved to bridgend, so first time fish and chips, Unfortunately for us not great.my wife had small chips and cod,well cod was like a large fish finger,chips I could count,fish lots of bones,not much taste, I had cod medium chips,curry sauce with no taste.again very small portions,but medium chips are nearly double the price of small,and probably get 5 more chips,unfortunately not again. Thank Shane for the invite,today Saturday 27th August we came back young lady with the wilko jacket is my partner. Cod and chips again for both, Fish yes bigger but no taste soacked in oil no crunch,very thin for cod,chips again more but lots of bits not much taste, Not really something I do reviews but after our initial experience abd being invited back I thought well we will give it a go again. Unfortunately Shane we will not be coming back.

Snce the re-opening this week (15-19 August 22) my previous comments below still stand but I would add that the food is tastier, the service remains friendly and of the highest standard, and the menu is greatly expanded. Previous review: This is an excellent fish bar which cooks very tasty food to a high standard and at speed. The portions are generous and they do a good range of dishes. The value for money is also very good - they could ask more with the quality being so high. The staff are also pressional, friendly, and tolerant of tired people not making much sense after a long day at work.

1st visit. Good service, Prices good, Food good, I'm sure it will only get better.

Absolutely disgusting, majority of the chips were bad and clearly black and while trying to pick through the bad chips I came across a fried fly. I felt physically sick, I will never eat from there again. It would have been a zero star if I didn't have to leave a star to leave a review. 🤢🤬

Very expensive chip shop Irish curry I don’t think so . More like dish water slop . How the locals survive with this Shop I will never know This must be the dearest sausage and batter in the country £2.20 and not even cooked right If I could give a zero rating I would Avoid avoid 🤮🤮

Bought a jumbo sausage on Friday from cefn glas chippy which at £2.20 is the most expensive in the area, and by far the worst I have ever had, I would recommend you do not waste your money, I will not be buying from there again. Terrible.

After approx 25 yrs coming here, I'm done with it now, yet again, like warm cardboard chips and watery mushy peas freezing cold in the middle, the fish was ok I guess but again, luke warm. I hate giving bad reviews and rarely do but the owners need to sort the evening staff put and get them to have a bit of pride in what they do.It used to be a lot better than it is now.

Me and my husband ordered from here tonight and couldn't eat it, the chips were all hard and didn't taste nice, the curry was like water, the rissole was cold and lumpy! Waiting time was ridiculous considering it was only me and my husband in the chip shop! Won't be going there again.

What a shame :( ordered today for lunch for the first time in a while, excited to get food from my favourite local chip shop. Got home ready to tuck in and was shocked at the poor serving size. Even for a small chips, they normally serve a great amount of chips. I counted about 20 chips in my serving. Only doesn't get 1* because they were good, and the fish was great as always. Unfortunately, I can't risk spending 5.80 for 20 chips, a fish and a small sausage, even if the taste is still there, so won't be going back again. Been going for 8 years too, gutted :(

They also do fresh authentic Italian pizzas now as well under the banner of Enzo's Pizza. Beautiful as is the fish shop. 👍👍

Very disappointed today (19/09/20) after my visit to the chip shop. Walked up to the counter at 13:48 to order food for five of us, asked if they had three portions of chips and the young man said no, he checked with the female who was cooking and then said they will put some in the fryer. I then asked for two jumbo sausage’s which were in the warming display cabinet and three pie’s. This is what surprised me beyond belief, SHE said I could only have what’s in the warming cabinet (sausages only) I understand I said but would it be possible to have three pies as well, which you always heat up in the microwave. Very rudely SHE said NO, you can only have what’s in the cabinet we can’t serve anything else. After over 15 years of visiting my favourite chip shop they have lost a loyal customer, all because a rude female employee could not be bothered to heat up three pie’s while cooking fresh chips. I hope this is a one off and I’m the only customer you’ll lose. Thanks!! Mark

Absolutely rank cold food and sauce

Not impressed by the hygiene of the girl cooking .long black hair just dangling down she then started scratching her head while cooking and then picking her long nailed finger nails whilst cooking the food ..NOT good hygiene practices

Terrible chips. Arriving home, I unwrapped a greasy ball of overcooked chips, that could not be separated. Absolutely awful.

Nice chippy, been there years, the local school children go there for lunch most days ,,clean ,good service, bit dated furnishings and decor, but well looked after, fish cooked in advance, so not as fresh as some other chip shops ,but good chip shop

Geat fish and chips but you may have to wait a little while. But can be worth it.

Had food here last night and it was disgusting. Had a Saveloy, Cod, large chips and Irish curry sauce to share with my other half. Chips were very greasy, the saveloy was stone cold, the Cod was also very greasy and full of bones, and the curry sauce was really watered down with no flavour. All in all, I will never have food from here again.

Portions are shocking for the price

Bought 4 bags of large chips..got home to find they're was about 10 chips in each bag!!! I may as well of paid for an extra small bag! This happens every time I ask for a large chips! Seriously need to sort out there portion sizes and train staff as to what 'Large quantities looks like !!!!!!!! If I had a car if take them back and demand a refund!

Nice chips but lady in front of me was known to the lady behind the counter, ordered large chips, given a decent portion. I who go there occasionally straight after her ordered a large chips and pie given chips half the portion (one scoop not the two scoops she had). Not happy and not amused. Hope my experience not typical but suggest you avoid if your not known to staff within the business.

Limited range of fish but well cooked and good value. Chips best in Bridgend.
