Shamrat Indian Resturant in Barking and Dagenham

Had to wait for over 20 minutes extra as food wasn’t ready , I was offered a drink while waiting which was fine but then when got back home not only we were missing one of two rices but also got a wrong one ( instead of pilau rice got rice with mushrooms) and instead of plain naan we were given peshwari naan.

We went into the Shamrat as the Indian at the top of the road as full, we were advised they had just opened so did not have too much alcohol and did not take cards. The food was EXCELLENT, we all enjoyed what we ordered and had a nice bottle of wine. Will visit again

Living just around the corner, we used to be regulars. However our last couple of visits have gone from poor to dreadful. Service was limited to one over-worked waiter resulting in many tables walking out. (We waited over an hour for starters!) Food is not nearly as good as it used to be. Portions poor, quality dreadful. The owner seemed not to care as he said he's closing down and refurbing as a restaurant and cocktail bar! Certainly wont be visiting again. And considering that there is so much good competition in the area - one would have thought that the owner would try and improve the quality and service.

We used to go to the shamrat a lot about 5 years ago,so what happened.the place was nearly empty on a Friday night.we actually had a nice meal and pleasent evening,but we did notice a lot of cut backs.no cloth napkins,smaller portions,dearer prices,a 4x3 wet wipe at the end of the meal and no drink on the house...it all adds up to poorer times....sad...use to be the place to eat in buckhurst hill...

Ordered at 19.45, arrived with some of the order missing at 9.25, still waiting on rest of food to arrive at 10pm so haven't eaten yet. Frequently order from Shamrat on a Friday night with no problems, but this has been a bad experience! Especially on a birthday too!

Delicious excellent quality food as always. Delivery was slightly late, however they let us know straight away and threw in a complimentary dish. Would highly recommended this take away.

Couldn’t see a hygiene sticker in the window so checked up the Food Standards Agency website - this place only gets 1 out of 5 for hygiene which is highly off-putting. Still unable to see the hygiene sticker almost a year later.

I ordered this food at 6 and it took an hour, when it arrived the rice was undercooked, the curry, which was supposed to be madras but tasted more like vindaloo, had more oil in it than anything else, the lamb was tough, the keema naan was just naan as it had absolutely no mince meat in! The saag paneer was bland and disgusting and the poppadoms were rank, how can you mess up poppadoms! This is without fail, the worst curry I have ever eaten, it was a big waste of money, I am throwing away and wouldn’t even give to a homeless shelter it tastes so awful!

We visitted here on our last trip. Food was excellent. Ordered over the phone. Walked down the road to collect it. It was soon ready. Friendly staff.

This is a frequent, value for money restaurant. I have been literally 10s of times & the food has been consistent every time. It's standard curry house fare, but the service is good & the ambiance great for a catchup with friends. No frills, no nonsense place

This always used to be the go to curry house in Buckhurst Hill. It may still be but on the night we went it was only average. Couldn’t recommend and will be trying a competitor next time.

Went there christmas eve with aunt and uncle and dad first time trying shamrat very nice food the manager and staff are friendy the cobra was ice cold the restaurant is big inside and they dont rush you so you can take your time to let your starters go down before you order your main meal the poppadoms are fresh and chutneys are fresh the reshmi kebab is so succulent mushroom rice is nice and the balti jalfrezi is good the chicken tikka masala is nice as well make sure you give it a go you wont be disappointed l love this place the manager gave us coffe and sambuca on the house

The food was meant to be delivered at 7:30pm, it eventually arrived at 8pm after we called twice and the driver was incompetent in finding my house. It was also cold when it got here due to the delay. very unhappy as we usually love Shamrat.

don’t order from here. shocking. the restaurants system was not working so they refused to complete my order, I was spoken to very poorly. I’m very disappointed as I am a regular in this restaurant, so they have lost good custom.

Starters are also amazing, this place does very high quality food! Delievery time was fast and arrived a bit earlier than expected which is always a bonus. I won't be ordered from anywhere else for a curry now!! Thank you

ordered at 8.30. delivery time was 50 mins. then changed to 1 hour 20 mins without notice. at 9.50 called restaurant to find out where delivery was, was told it had left 2 mins ago. still hadn't arrived at 10.10 (5 min drive) so called again. eventually turned up at 10.15. hour and 45 mins after ordering. food was very good but would have expected discount. probably won't order again in a hurry

Para el segundo plato fresco cubiertos llegamos en la mesa. . . . . Sólo allí. boca abajo y fuera del alcance, precioso. Plato principal servido, platos no explicado. Out of our party, three of us was ill but one was seriously ill which lasted for two days. Stomach cramps and frequent trips to relieve the symptoms, one had sickness the other two had diarrhea. This was not the first time but the other time was not sure, now I am. Complained to the management who seemed to have heard it all before and did not seem to be concerned. We will never go there again after four years of regular evenings. You have been warned!

I have been to the shamrat several times and have always found the food to be very good. Its a bit dark inside but dont let that put you off the staff are always friendly.

This restaurant is no good and it was poor, service was terrible, waiters was rude and the manager was also rude

Don't be distracted by the underwhelming exterior or the more glamorous looking restaurants in this road. Inside, is a gastronomic delight. The inside is modern and stylish, the service, as you would expect from any Indian restaurant, is impeccable and the food is really very very good and reasonably priced. The menu is varied with a great choice of food I couldn't fault this restaurant

I love this restaurant only for vegetarian food .... I love chapati with my vegetarian curry .....I really like this restaurant because of this is one of the best vegetarian restaurant in the Guangzhou ....!

This use to be the best curry in Buckhurst Hill but I'm guessing it's either changed hands or has a new chef because the last couple of take-a-way's we've had have been dreadful. Everything just tastes of salt and the colours make it look like the food has come straight out of nuclear reactor. A real shame but we'll be going elsewhere in future.

Once you get past the shop front exterior, the Shamrat opens into a lovely restaurant pleasantly decorated. I'm extremely fussy with my curry, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were extremely friendly and were willing to add and take away any ingredient's out that I didn't want. It is very reasonably priced, and the food was brilliant, and plenty of it.

Been to the Shamrat on a number of occasions with my wife and friends, always had good food and the staff are very friendly, sometimes if its very busy you have to wait a while, but not really a problem. I would definitely recommend.

I did ask the driver to call my number so that I may answer the door, unfortunately the driver knocked on the door first and woke up the rest of the house. Other than that the food was great.

Me and my partner ordered takeaway from here for first time and it was disgusting! Firstly it took over an hour for the food to arrive despite the fact we live 0.2km from the restaurant! The food arrived cold. Had the bahjis for starter which were okay but not very crispy and very oily! And the main was hands down the worst dish I have eaten in my life. It was the Tiger prawn hara masala which looked like bile vomit the prawns were overcooked and the whole curry tasted tangy like vinegar. Ate two mouthfuls and couldn't bear anymore. My partner had the duck which was stone cold and again duck was overcooked. This is truly a horrific interpretation of Indian food. What a waste of money.

The decor is contemporary and the lighting is quite low but this seems to work. The staff were friendly and service was prompt although the restuarant was half full so I would expect good prompt service.Good atmosphere and the other patrons were also local which is a good sign.The restuarant layout and table settings cater for everyone whether you want a large table for celebrations or are a couple who want a more low key sitting.This was my 3rd visit and yes I will go back.

Chased where it was after waiting an hour and was told it would be with me any minute as the driver had left to bring it. Forty minutes later it still hadn't arrived. We called back and told them not to bother. Won't use them again.

Well all i can say is i will never set foot in this place again.The service was so bad that my cat would have done a better job.I do not understand the excuses some of these places come up with for having a bad night but being too busy does not wash with me.Customer service is a must these days but this place has 0.Thank fully there are much better Indian restaurants to choose from.

First time i visited the restaurant with a couple friends and First impressions were really good as I got excellent and quick service and the food was exceptional. The manager was very welcoming and made sure we were comfortable.

I have ordered from Shamrat many times. It's not the closest option for me but usually it's worth it. Today, however it look one hour and 42 minutes - I called the restaurant after an hours wait to be told it's on route - when it finally arrived the food was cold. Not lukewarm, actually cold. Not impressed.

We visited for the first time on Saturday evening and as expected for a Saturday it was very busy. We were sat at a table fairly quickly however it 10 minutes for us to offers any drinks or poppadoms. As we had been waiting a while we asked at that point if we could also ordered our mains which we were told very abruptly that he was only taking our drinks orders and someone would be back to take our food order. When the poppadoms arrived from a different waiter we again asked if we could order our food and he said someone would be back to take the order. The guy who initially served us then came back (this is now 25 mins since we were sat at the table) and took our food order. We then waited another 25 minutes for our starters! The food was very, very good and we could not fault this at all, just shame about the service. It looked like everyone had been waiting a while for the food and they were certainly lacking staff so maybe it was just an off night. I would definitely return as the food was lovely but let's hope they have more staff working next time!

The Shamrat is one of our local Indian restaurants here in Buckhurst Hill. I've probably visited about ten times in three years. Time to add a quick review. The main thing that brings us back here is the service. The welcome from the front of house staff is probably as good as you'd find in any five star establishment. You can eat here really pretty well on a budget or not as the case may be. The dishes here are a bit different to your regular curry house. Sometimes in appearance and preparation. The chicken dishes I usually go for are made using chicken strips (I don't know why they do that) but it works.Weekends (especially end of month/pay day) can be very busy, as was the case tonight. We spotted only one table for two going spare so sometimes it can be best to make a booking, otherwise you'll almost always be accommodated. I'd say it's especially good for larger groups. Sam, the main front of house man here runs a very smooth restaurant and always makes you feel special and valued, regardless of how busy it gets.

Food was not hot on arrival and needed to be put in microwave. Tasted fine though!

I live near this restaurant and order takeaways from them as well as visit them regularly. The food is outstandingly good, I had some of my best ever Indian dishes from here. The staff has been very welcoming and friendly from day one. As a welcome addition, they have a rather good wine-list, too. As far as local Indian restaurants go, you can not wish for more than what Shamrat is offering. I highly recommend them.

Fantastic food, nothing too much trouble. Would rcommend. They moved us from our original tabble due to noisy intrusive table next to us, without blinking an eye, food excellent , service also excellent and very good wine selection.

My wife and I visited the shamrat on s Friday night booked for 8.15.We were greeted by a friendly waiter and shown to out table . Which was a good size and the seats were very comfortable. The service was very good and weren't rushed but were very attentive. Very relaxed and peaceful in there perfect for any occasion . Then the food came ,Poppadoms, starter and main course , all more than happy with , portions good size and very tasty. We had the house white wine which was most pleasant. The bill was unbelievably cheap as we had 2 bottles of wine . Starter and main course and coffee . So .. all in all 5 out of 5 and will definitely be back .

Quality of food never fails and Sam always willing to please. Should have been much busier but Halloween not a good time for Restaurants. Very comfortable - not expensive and service always very good. A free drink on the house is rare these days. Locally the Indian of choice.

Curry tasty, but the coldest take away we've ever had. Chips, bahjis and naan so cold they felt uncooked. Standard offer of a 'free dish next time' , but why would we order again. Indian takeaways are ten to a penny round here.

With take aways its all about the detail - whilst most of the food was really good there was no mint raita with the onion bhaji starter - so a bit like eating dry cream crackers. The Biryani was really good however so would definitely order again.

The food here is fabulous, I usually order a delivery and the food comes however you order, they are always accommodating with any tweaks you want to make to your order.

Absolutely appalled, after an hour and a half of waiting for our meal and 5 phone calls to restaurant who's manager told us he had no idea where his delivery driver was, our food finally arrived freezing cold, needless to say I sent it straight back. Their whole service was abysmal and I will never eat at Shamrat ever again...this also will not be my only review, I am this upset about it, I will ensure this review is put in Yelp, Yell and any other places that Shamrat advertise......DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

This was the worst Indian. I don't take my time to write a review but I feel everyone should know as i wouldn't wish the service/food for anyone else it was so awful. Half my meal didn't turn up, the manger was extremely rude and they done nothing to make up for it.

Firstly - its not in Barking (as the listing claims at the time of writing) - its in Buckhurst Hill - quite a way from Barking.Went midweek. We were the only people in there.Nice décor.Service was great.Food was really nice - very tasty.No complaints at all, and based on this visit would recommend.

Popped in new years eve without booking, they were able to seat us straight away despite being rather busy. Cannot fault the food or service, will be definitely be coming again! The outside is very deceiving, looks rather small. The resturant goes back a far way and decor inside is very modern

Last night I used Shamrat for the first time - please note Buckhurst Hill is not in Barking, so please do not confuse this review with another restaurant.We ordered a take-away from here because of all the local Indian restaurants/takeways in the area this one had a menu which gave a description of the dish, rather than just a name and its cost. The telephone was answered quickly and my order was taking without any messing around and care was given to making sure the address and the order were both correct. I was given 45mins to 1 hour for delivery. It arrived within about 40 minutes.The dishes were very nicely presented, and though I had declined popadoms and so on they were included without charge. I was disturbed so see that it only had a hygiene rating of 1 out of 5, but as the Food Standards agency website says this is not a comment on the quality of the food. Nevertheless I tried to console myself with the thought that this 1 out of 5 was given in April 2014 and things might have improved. I have a touchy stomach and have to be careful about what and where I eat, so I even considered cancelling the order. However the dishes smelled mouth-watering delicious when open, and indeed they tasted very nice indeed. The flavours of all six dished were good, and not all hidden in heat. There portions were decent, indeed we were and could not eat everything.I am happy to report that my stomach did not rebel, but my taste-buds rejoiced. I think we'll be giving Shamrat another go.
