Susan Stephen's catering WILL BE SADLY MISSED !! My family and i have been regular diners since Sue took over the Restaurant and the food has been absolutely amazing whether it was off the main menu, specials board or the Sunday carvery ! Portions and quality was consistently excellent, we believe the owner is closing the whole pub so hopefully we will see Sue somewhere else in the near future. It’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere in the area to compare. Thanks Sue and goodluck for the future !!

We pitched up at Scots Corner for a meal and found the food FABULOUS. There was 9 of us and all our meals were served on time, cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. When we asked how many chefs they had, we were surprised to be told, only one....and with no kitchen help. This place is definitely worth a visit. The dining room and toilets are not 5 star...BUT THE FOOD DEFINITELY IS.

Drinks, sharing starters and puddings too for 9, total bill was less than £110. Will definitely go again. Thanks everyone for a superb night x

Having lived 5 miles from Scot's Corner for 11 years, tonight was the first time we had visited it, as it was recently recommended by some friends so my wife and I thought we'd try it. We were taken to our table and presented with a standard menu plus a full, typed, A4 page of "specials". I was amazed by the variety of choices available in what was a relatively small (30 covers) restaurant. My wife had a seafood mixture in a creamy white wine sauce, and mash, and a side dish of roast, sauteed and mini baked potatoes, and parsnips. I had a T-Bone steak with tomato, mushrooms, salad, coleslaw, chips, and onion rings all on the board, PLUS 6 different veggies on the side in separate dishes. I'm a big guy, and I love my food, but this was awesome! But what was striking was not the size - any restaurant can do that - but the quality. Everythig was just as it should be, the stake blue (as requested) and so tender I didn't bother with the steak knife I was offered, the veg were all properly cooked, the onion rings were crispy... I'm running out of superlatives... And to cap it all the staff couldn't have been more friendly. This absolutely will not be the last time we visit, but I think I shall starve for a day or two before the next time.

When we arrived we got served straight away and sat down at our booked table. We got out drinks not long after we sat down. For a starter we ordered the chicken strips with sweet chilli and soy sauce they were fantastic! The main arrived shortly after we finished the starter, the portion was huge for the price. Both the T bone steak and the steak pie were amazing. The desert almost looked too good to eat, it tasted great.

We have been lucky enough to visit the Scots Corner many times and the food and service is consistently brilliant. Our most recent visit was a Sunday that we couldn't be bothered cooking and we remembered that the Scots Corner did a "carve your own carvery". We popped round and decided to go for the 2 course carvery for 2. The service from the staff was friendly and welcoming and the food arrived quickly even though they were very busy. We both had the roast beef and all the trimmings as a main and we were not disappointed. The beef was melt in the mouth and the vegetables were very yummy and lots of different trimmings to try out. We then both had the same dessert too! Waffles with caramel ice cream. I'm not a huge dessert fan normally, but we both said it was delicious and I polished off the lot! Definitely give them a try if you are in the area

After a disappointing first trip to another nearby pub for a night out staying at Fasque Castle, I had taken to trip advisor to seek out somewhere that was well reputed and worth a try. This is where I stumbled upon Scots Corner. This very much hidden pub is amongst a long line of houses just outside Laurencekirk and from the outside it looked like someone had literally turned their house into the local pub. The menu itself was understandably small due to the proximity to other small towns and villages, but as a table of 7 (with some picky kids too) we still all managed to find something to satisfy our needs. I decided on the chicken strips and the haddock and chips which were both delicious. Perfect sizes and in particular the sauce with the starter was divine. The fish was evidently fresh from the taste and the chips were plentiful and fluffy. The staff there were also very accommodating to my allergy of peas and even took them off everybody else’s fish dishes and served them in a big dish away from me to maximise safety - thank you. They also put extra chips in to fill us up even more. I am still to this day disappointed that I couldn’t be the first to have a dessert and complete all three courses, as the staff were exclaiming throughout that nobody can finish the three. I can see why! There was one waitress, whose name I have since forgot, that served our table very well. She gave us the perfect amount of attention throughout and was the exact type of waitress you would look for as an employer. As well as that both owners were equally friendly and we had the sense throughout that they were genuinely happy to have us which is a nice feeling when you walk into a pub like Scots Corner. All in all, it was faultless. Certainly the next time we are up in Aberdeenshire on holiday we will all return to this place to wipe out all of the tomato ketchup and garlic dip that you have!

The restaurant is very cute and comfortable, and the waitstaff and owner are friendly and kind. The food was excellent! My partner ordered the steak pie and I got the burger, and both were delicious; I especially loved the yummy onion rings that came as a side (in addition to fries, coleslaw, and extra bbq sauce). The portions are huge! I could only eat half my meal, and leftovers made a terrific lunch in Edinburgh the next day. The sticky toffee pudding is melt-in-your-mouth delicious (we finished that with no problem). Prices are very reasonable. We highly recommend this restaurant!

! La comida era estupenda relación calidad-precio. I phoned in advance to book a table, the gent who answered the phone was friendly, helpful and very engaging. We arrived for dinner and were greeted by an exceptionally friendly and open guy (i assume he is the owner) he instantly engaged in conversation with us and was lovely. He took our drinks order and then our food order, he was comfortably in the distance but at the same time was always attentive, in saying that he came to our table and had a very lovely conversation with us and let us know of all of the events that are held there as well as asking us about ourselves and generally, genuinely, taking the time with us.We both ordered the lasagne with salad and hand cut chips, and let me tell you something..... i have not had chips as good as those for such a long time... anyway, enough about the chips!! The lasagne.... was fabulous. I thought I cooked a pretty good lasagne but this... this was wonderful, there was crispy cheese, soft melty cheese and at least 4 layers possibly 5... yes i know i am that sad that i counted them . All in all, if you haven't been to Scots Corner and find yourself in the area, even passing by on the dual carriageway and fancy a flippin great meal with a relaxed atmosphere without spending a fortune then this is the place. I would of rated this restaurant higher but unfortunately a couple of things let me down.First of all we waiting a full hour from our reservation for our starters, which is just too long. However the staff were very apologetic and we did receive a round of drinks on the house which is always nice. I understand it can be difficult when you are behind in the kitchen, having worked in a restaurant for many years myself. However the restaurant wasn't full.My boyfriend had the cullen skink then the burger. The burger looked really good, the chips looked hand cut and tasted it and the beef wasn't greasy. I had the breaded Camembert which was tasty, probably my favourtie part of the meal, then pork belly with Stornoway black pudding was also satisfactory except the black pudding definitely was not Stornoway. Far from it in fact. Dont advertise Stornoway and give out something else thinking diners wont know the difference. Seemed like a nice place, with lovely staff but a few bits and bobs that need to be improved on. Nothing overly major, and I'd be happy to go back for another go and for that burger.

I'm a fan of a plate of food that makes you want to eat everything that's in front of you, without being left with the feeling that you've no room for anything else. Scots Corner delivers a sensible portion of quality ingredients presented in a simple (pleasing) manner. Steaks come from an award-winning local butcher and they are superbly cooked. Fish is done in a light and pleasing batter and the Beef Stroganoff is (almost) as good as my wife's! I can't comment much on the deserts, as I prefer to have a starter, but I can say that they look very good. The Chilli Chicken Strips to kick-off a meal are sublime, with a seaseme seed coating which doesn't leave you feeling bloated before the main event. Prices are perfectly reasonable too. All in all, be it for lunch or a casual dinner, this is hard to beat. My wife was away for a week recently and thank's to Scots Corner, I hardly noticed she was gone!!

The menu is very extensive & the portions are massive. We both decided to have the chicken fillets, succulent chicken breast pieces in a crisp light batter with a mountain of chips & small dish of fresh salad & another with sweet chilli dip. I went here on a recommendation. I hoped it was good as its close by, however i think i should probably follow my instinct as i never have fancied it from the outside .it doesnt look inviting its a bit of a 70s style pub from the outside, maybe i expected too much but its like a badly decorated, dated living room inside, apparently its had a revamp (you wouldn't know) i dread to think what it was like previously the tiles in the toilets have been painted over, badly at that! The main meal was not good, nobody cleaned their plates the roast beef was not good quality (fatty and chewy) the chips undercooked in fact not cooked. The burger had thick chunks of cheese on top that wasn't meltedThe sticky toffee pudding for desert was very good and the toilets were clean otherwise i would of scored it 1 star there are better places in the area i will not be returning.I know a lot of std management or owner feedback is you should have told us well i dont see why i should do your job you either know the food is substandard or you dont and both are as bad as one another, the prices here are not high, but when you pay for something you expect to get value for money i felt that was not the case here sadly.

This bar / restaurant is located in a former house in the tiniest of villages, and doesn't look like anything special. The chef, however, is top notch and the food is spectacularly delicious and varied. The menu changes regularly so there's no getting bored, and I'm not kidding, the food is absolutely outstanding. Prices are good and you get really good sized portions of everything, you definitely won't leave hungry. Best food anywhere around in the most out of the way spot - what a find! I recommend the burger, which is handmade and topped with home made onion rings, bacon, cheese, delicious barbecue sauce and a little gherkin, all on a delicious brioche bun, with home made fries and a salad on the side. Best burger in the UK, hands down.

If it's a few weeks since you've been to Scots Corner, you'll notice a difference in the furnishings - new tables and chairs, wallpaper and carpet - and the menus, but still with the same warm welcome from the owner. Scots is a village pub with restaurant, so you wouldn't expect 'fine dining', but the food is freshly cooked to order, with daily specials, fish from the local harbour at Gourdon. There's a limited wine list, but the quality is good and the prices reasonable, and a selection of ales and a rather potent Suffolk cider on tap. It's always good to know in advance what prices might be. On our last visit, five of us had the sea fresh haddock, chips and side salad and two rounds of drinks, with change out of £90. The previous occasion, two of us had a two course meal and a bottle of wine, with change out of £50. That, in the north east of Scotland, is 'reasonable'.If you're new to the area, and looking for somewhere to eat, you'll want to know Scots is open Wednesday to Sunday for meals, at lunch time and early evening, and all afternoon on Sunday.

We first visited Scots Corner a few months ago and the menu was great, loved the look of most things, the staff were very friendly and there was a great selection of specials. However our latest trip was a bit of a let down, the menu had changed and there was not much on it that any of our party liked the look of, when the food arrived it was ok but not to the standard of the last visit, also there were no specials at all which we found unusual. The staff are still very friendly and the restaurant is still very nice but the food did not live up our previous visit unfortunately. I would still recommend a visit if your in the area but I would not travel a great distance to visit.

A friendly welcome and personal service as well as excellent food made for a pleasant experience. The chicken goujons were delicious with rustic chips and side salad. The chicken and some extra salad would have been better for me - my husband had to finish my chips!

Well another great experience was had in this fast becoming a favourite eating establishment for many in the Mearns.... I must say I am very well travelled and have eaten one of my favourite seafood dishes of mussels in many far flung places, but I need to share with you that Scots Corner's current take on their extraordinary version of Mussels, Monkfish on a bed of garlic mashed potato, in the tastiest of creamy sauces, combined with tiny morsels of Chorizo Sausage is indeed superior to any that I've had served up before. What an amazing combination of fresh subtle flavours, which blend very well together and complement each other. Try it, you will not be disappointed.......... The service and staff are pretty decent as well....

We again visited for a family get together but it was not the usual standard of food or service we have normally had here. We had to wait over 50 mins on our main ( the children were beginning to get very bored) and we still hadn't had our dessert after being there 2 hrs !I had chicken ( which was very dry and hard in bits), someone didn't get their veg with their steak pie and the vanilla ice cream didn't taste very nice. It was certainly not the normally high standard of food or service we have had before so hopefully it was just a one off as its normally very good food and service.

A few friends had recommended a meal at Scott's Corner, I had never heard of it before. After reading the reviews me and 2 firends decided to go and see what all the hype was about on Saturday night..... WOW the main meal was delicious.......could it get any better ......definately the puddings were amazing! We noted there was also a good selection on the childrens menu so I think another trip back with the Nieces and Nephews will be coming up very soon.Give it a try you won't be disappointed :-)

We were here for an early evening meal, the food was first class but noise was a problem, there was a male party there aged about 40s-they were drinking and swearing alot,we were very close to walking out(when I was brought up I was taught manners)either the bar staff should have told them to stop swearing or asked them to leave, barman did apologise but at the end.Next time I will ask who else will be there before I book a table.

We had been told the food was great by friends and they were right . Sticky toffee pudding gets a ten out of ten - so good that grown up son says we must go back again soon . Lovely curry - no oily sludge - and an interesting Louisiana chicken dish - great wine . Looking forward to our next visit

I decided to recce the place for our upcoming Brechin darts league match against them. We decided to have some food while we were there. The food was top notch, homemade burger was beautiful as were the homemade chips. The starter was amazing too. At the table next to us, the old couple ordered desserts. The portions were massive. Enough to sink a ship. Cracking place, I think we will be back. Keep it up

It's years since we've been here and as we'd heard rave reviews since the new owners took over we thought we'd give it a try and we're so glad we did. There was a small menu but also a chalkboard with a good amount of specials. We went on curry night and although we never ordered one we would the next time after seeing someone else's and hearing them talk about how good it was. Our starters were really good, the special of melon, poached pear and prawns was tasty. The crispy chicken strips were incredible, I could eat them as a main course, the chicken was moist but tasty, coated in sesame seeds and an amazing sauce. The garlic mushrooms were creamy, cheesy with just the right amount of garlic and came with the best garlic bread we have ever had.Our mains didn't disappoint, the pasta carbonara was freshly made and adjusted to our taste, it came with garlic bread but sadly it wasn't the same standard as the starter one though it was still nice. The Cajun chicken was really different to what we had expected, but it was really good and packed with flavour. The best dish had to be the steak pie, the steak was tender with no fat and moist in a really rich sauce, the pastry topping was nice but the underneath pastry dish was too thick and overcooked. The potatoes were so tasty, they had been boiled in stock and sprinkled with rosemary which gave them a very rich flavour, I could of eaten them all night. The veg options whilst delicious made the meal too rich for me, the peas were in a sauce and the swede had butter over it, the next time I would ask for plain veg, but then I am fussy! We were too full for pudding but we did see someone's cheesecake and it's on our must try list for the next time, along with the banoffee pie which is homemade. The quality of the food made this meal very close to excellent but the few wee gripes I had and the fact that the heating needs to be turned up several notches meant I rated it as very good instead, however I hope to return soon and hope the next time I'll be rating it as excellent. My one tip would be book first as I hear it can get busy.

Excellent meal last night for a special occasion. A mixture of standard favourites on the menu and imaginative specials on offer. Caters for all tastes. Everything was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere in a local pub/restaurant down to very friendly hosts/owners and special mention to the young waiter whose service was impeccable. Well done to all for offering such an excellent facility locally. Look forward to returning.

This is the second time we have been and it was better than the first. We are always greeted with a warm welcome from all the staff. The Specials board is excellent, with a good range of top restaurant style dishes. We were really impressed by the presentation, which was second to none. The restaurant is set in a village pub but the food is way above "Pub Grub".Well done keep up the good work. Look forward to a visit after the renovation. 5 mins off the A90.
