Had to book a table for a large group (10) via email almost 2 weeks before but didn’t receive any confirmation, tried calling but no answer, and finally got a confirmation email 2 days before we were due to visit. On arrival that evening we arrived to find most of the lights were off, and the door locked. After knocking on the door a woman came and told us they had “an accident” and were waiting for an engineer, (whatever that meant), and they were not going to be opening, “we probably should have called you”. REALLY? YOU THINK??? So, I can’t review the food, decor, or even the atmosphere as we didn’t even get inside, and now never will bother to try again. Anyway, their loss was The Little John’s gain, where we had a lovely evening and great food. I advise anyone to try there instead as it’s only a mile down the road and they actually welcome guests instead of turning them away like Santini do.

Pleasantly surprised a hidden Jen in ravens head. The meal was fantastic. Sea bass fillets were fabulous. My wife’s ravioli was very good. Definitely 9/10 the Sauvignon blonc let the side down a little pleasant but not Marlborough from New Zealand we settled for South African 7/10 but on the whole very good

Pre booking table: Made as group booking via email. Told £5.00 per person and to call 2 days before to pay and confirm. Tried repeatedly to call and left voicemails over that period and no answer. Email sent the evening before, and told not to worry, all booked and no need for deposit. The night itself: Guests arrived before me and on arrival all noted to me how rude the suited lady (manager was behind the bar). How long it took for a drinks to be served, being told that the bar man had covid and the chef was the only other person who could do the alcoholic drinks/ draught pints. Table booked for 19:00. 19:15 said manager came over and said your table is booked for 19:30 I will come and get you when it’s ready. I said it was actually 19:00 but not to worry as we were still waiting on one person. 19:38 I asked the same person if the table was ready and she just said, “I told you I will come over to you when ready, it will be 2 mins”. 19:45 we were taken to our table and still waiting on some drinks that had been ordered some 15 mins prior. The food has really gone down hill and the price for the quantity and quality of food is ridiculous. Haven’t eaten here pre lockdown and shortly afterward the change is tenfold. Starters: Garlic mushrooms had all of 4 halved mushrooms in it. Prawns had 4 prawns in it, with each served with 1 piece of an cut end of a bread roll. We asked for more bread and was give. 3 more pieces of the ends of a roll for a table of 8. Mains: Poorly presented and each meals served with a soggy, over dressed lettuce with half a cherry tomato In it. No sides. Literally the item order slopped on the plate and the portion size was terrible. Pizzas- nothing special and barely any cheese of any sorts on them. Nor did they look like an authentic Italian pizza base, just frozen pre made type and sparse toppings Beef Ragu- the best of all ordered and generally nice and decent portion. Chicken kebab- same sloppy salad a handful of fries and the chicken appeared to have been precooked and thrown on the grill. It was rubbery and bouncy as you cut into it. It was taken home for the dog. Lasagna- mediocre as best and had to order fries to go with is as the portion was small. No better than a microwave lasagna. Didn’t come in the usual oven dish, cheese topped and baked like most restaurants do. Beef stroganoff- huge amount of rice that was soggy and salty served with not even a ladles worth of stroganoff. Stroganoff was bland, looked more like a dark gravy. 3 slices of mushroom into and maybe 5 pieces of beef. With the soggy salad. The manager: The beef stroganoff was returned. This is when the evening peaked. I asked to return it and had to go to and find the manager to advise this due to their only being 3 staff on the floor. She barely looked at me continuing to clear tables when I spoke on my dismay. Her response was, “ why I have sold loads of this today”. This was the beginning of 3 altercations with her where so continued to argue with our table. She insighted that we and our pallets were the issue. She sent the young waitress over to collect the food which was unfair. The young waitress was lovely and the manager could take some lessons from her on customer service. Her approach was so bad 2 of the party never ordered replacements and she was asked to leave our group alone 3 times before she took the hint, due to her attitude. She then came back to us at the end of the evening with an apology about how she came across. This was admirable, until she then started to argue the issues with us again. She ruined a birthday meal with her lack of managing a team when short staffed and in a crisis. Her lack of being able to handle issues effectively. Her lack of customer experience and conflict resolution and inept attitude towards the customers. Having shared my experience with others 3 separate people they asked, “was this a dark haired, suited middle aged woman?” I replied yes and this was the exact same person they had had issues with. The owner needs to see the bad reputation she has bought to their establishment
