Salamis Taverna in Peterborough

Its shut now i hope it comes back i swear no lie they where breaking plates on the floor. There was dancing the food was very nice and great value for money. Hope it comes back.

No surprise it's shutting down. I was pressured to pay by cash and based on the comments below, they eventually only gave up, allowing me to pay by card because I am Greek. Even in Greece you can pay anywhere by card currently. Attitude, like the decor and food from 30 years ago, and not in a good way. I swore to never go again three months ago and just read they went bust. So long.

Got chased out of restaurant demanding us to pay bill even though we had left cash on the table! An absolute mock of a place, will not be returning!

Freezing cold restaurant, no card machine and only told on arrival but too late to gind elsewhere for our party of 12, music far too loud. Only good thing was the food but it was hard to enjoy due to the poor conditions

As Usual the Food and the Staff were great no complaints there. But the place is now painted white and with little heating it was very cold indeed. The toilets were untidy and freezing cold. On the way in we were told Cash Only, after our meal I tried to find a cash machine close by but it was out of order and I didn't feel safe walking around looking for a cash machine, When I went back to the restaurant and said I was unable to get cash then suddenly a hand card swipe machine appeared and I was able to pay for our meal. This took the shine off our meal, cold and a hunt for a cash machine is not what you want after a nice meal. As i said food still great but the place has lost its magic. We wont be going back any time soon, what a shame.

Unfortunately our review isnt in favour of a return visit. On arrival, once seated, we were informed it was cash only which was a real inconvenience as the nearest cashpoint was right down near Tesco however luckily a few of our party had cash. I questioned why the booking contact wasnt called as it would have been common courtesy to let us know prior to our arrival and was told rather abruptly to speak to the Manager if I have any questions. Rude! However due to the time and wanting to stay out of the cold we opted to stay with the men braving the cold to get more cash. We were a party of 12. Big mistake....The restaurant was freezing cold resulting in lots of diners eating with their outdoor coats on part way through! It didnt help that every time a party of people left, the outer door was left open allowing further cold air into the porch and on into the restaurant. Coke was flat, although this was changed on request and the decor was flat to match! Very dated! The music would have been nice however it was far too loud, sounding tinny and drowning out conversation. Several diners asked for it to be turned down on more than one occasion. The only good thing was the food. Despite the long wait, it was very nice meat on the skewers. Its a shame as we had been previously ( pre covid) and it was a lot nicer. So it is at this end we shall not be returning.

A small Greek restaurant. Decent food. Did not accept credit card payment. Better to check before the bill to avoid making a fool of yourself.

Today we went to my boyfriend's birthday dinner at the restaurant. The food was delicious, the appetizers and main courses were delicious, everything was fresh. I highly recommend this place. .

Our first visit to this Greek restaurant and very pleased with the food and service. King prawns are fresh and cooked with perfection.

We enjoyed a really lovely meal here as a family before going to a show at the theatre opposite. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. Will definitely come back when we're in Peterborough.

Wonderful experience at this lovely restaurant. I went with my family and the food was incredible. The service was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for us! The Kleftiko lamb was delicious. The meat fell off the bone and there was more than enough for 2 people. The starters we had a mixed mezze and even with 4 of us it was a lot. The bread was lovely and warm too. The dessert was very large! Too much for one person. The decor was beautiful and reminded me of being in Greece on a summer evening. Defo a hot spot in Peterborough

Visited with 3 friends on a Thursday evening. Really nice to see Salamis so busy, the atmosphere was great. Three of us went for the meze whilst another friend had her own dish, every dish was fabulous, portions were substantial, everything cooked really well, and the service great. Would definitely recommend

The food at this restaurant is really good, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the service (Saturday night). Also we had a party of 20 something lads who were disruptive and loud sitting next to us. If you are going to visit this restaurant go during the week and be prepared to wait for your food.

Visited on the 08/06/2023 George was excellent even with dealing with a packed out restaurant, had time for all customers delivering quality food and service, I have been going to this secret hidden gem in the city centre almost 15 years and it never dissapoints ,the food just doesn't get boring ,so fresh and crisp. Just get the mezze value wise and taste it's the best in town!!!

The first time I visited, after living in the peterborough area for a lot of years , I should have been sooner. The food was amazing with simple but nice decorated restaurant and friendly staff.

Had a family birthday meal here highly recommend we had the set mezi meal . Absolutely great value for money , first course Greek bread with yogurt dips , humerus olives,salad and meatballs ,second course Greek fish and chips , calamaris, mussels . Third course meat , pork ,chicken on skewers and beef and steak in lovely sauces with rice followed by fruit . This meal is very filling and a great way to sample lots of different Greek foods and all for a great price . This is a family run restaurant with great service and Greek atmosphere, will definitely make eating here a regular thing .

My friend and I went for dinner today and the customer service was horrendous and the waiter became very unsettled with the customers for no apparent reason, the food was 1/10 and the atmosphere overall was very unpleasant as we had to sit through it. My recommendation is for them to take constructive criticism and do some changes, otherwise they’ll lose costumers.

How can a modern day restaurant not accept card you know it’s all to do with tax write off lost me as a customer ended up going to the restaurant beside it

Slow to seat 30 mins for 1st drink another 20 mins for humus and pita left 30 after that as still no order taken

First time at Salamis last night - great food. Plenty for two in the speciality meze. Good entertainment and great waiting staff. Will go again.

We visited Salamis yesterday, NYEve, in a very busy evening. We had to wait for a while but it was really worth it! Excellent food, good service, great vibes! We had a great time and definitely visit again soon 🙂!

A few days earlier we ordered a table for December 31st to celebrate the New Year with my wife. When we arrived at the appointed time, the restorsnt emploee checked the confirmation of our table rrservation, told us that everything was in order and left. We waited a long time at the front door untill another represantative of the restaurant came and announced that there were no free tables and even didn't apologoze.We went home with a spoiled mood and a lost sense of celebration.I will add that we specially drove to the restaurant from Holbeach , but the restaurant staff is not fulfiling their promises regarding the reservation of tables and I have heard about such cases in this canteen from several people. I do not advise anyone to book-because there are no guarantees that you will get the table - at best will offer to sit at the bar, at the entrance door, where constantly everyone walks by and is draught.This restorant is a real example of how to show direspect and arrogance to its guests.

I am still sat in this absolutely stunning authentic Greek Taverna. Where do I start, the food is amazing and reminds of being in Greece its that flavourful and tender you would want to try the whole menu. The atmosphere is beautiful, music and scenery and paintings reminds you of Greece and gives you a welcoming feeling. The staff (Hosts, front of house and chefs) are so kind and amazing. Such a brilliant place. I will be coming here all the time now.

Have had takeaway previously but chose to visit this time and was not disappointed! Their meze for £24.95 per person was incredible. 4 courses of continuous dishes. The only way to enjoy Greek cuisine.

Not cheap but small portions, stingy, would be better to give your customer a little extra than a little less which may leave them with a good feeling and encourage them to come back, will not return here for sure.

Great meal, love the greek atmosphere, went earlier which was better as they do get busy later in the evening.... Great Greek salad and best taziki outside of skiathos.... as is the baklava ,delicious...very friendly staff...Would deffo go again, highly recommend it..

Loved it. Ordered the Mezzi for two ... could have fed a family of 4 for two days!!! Nice clean and bright restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We went at about 17.00 so it was quiet and only started to fill up as we left. Would definitly go again .... when I've lost some of the weight I put on! Thank you.

Lovely meal after seeing the show always great service

The food was okay but not the best, however, it is reasonably priced. The service was vary chaotic and all a bit frantic. We were on a table at the back of the restaurant next to the entrance to the kitchen, which meant staff were constantly rushing past and yelling to the chef though the service point. It also gave us a rather unpleasant view of the porters scraping, stacking and clattering dirty plates. It was not the relaxing meal we had in mind and we couldn’t wait to leave! Had we been sat somewhere else, I’m sure our experience wouldn’t have been a bit better. If you go here, ask for a table at the front of the restaurant!

Great food and atmosphere...just needs extra people waiting on tables so you can order more drinks and not have each course being put down as they take one away. Atmosphere on a sat is pretty special.

People are really nice. However the place could use some upgrades and the food was ok but not my favourite I guess.

Superb food and great atmosphere not sure if they usually have 5 staff serving so many customers but had to wait quite a long time to have plates cleared and get deserts. I would be happy to dine their again.

Great Meze meal at Salamis on a Saturday evening the place was full great food and a great atmosphere they also have live music on a Friday and Saturday night the 4 course meze was excellent.

Wow, just wow!! The worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant!!!!!!!! Called mid-day for an appointment at 8:30 for a couple. Arrived there 10 mins earlier and told the girls at the bar we had a reservation, their reaction was the warning… laughing being surprised we said reservation… had been waiting 15 minutes for a table at the bar…then we’ve been seated right in the middle of the restaurant(the only 1 girl serving literally running). Seating at the table for over 20 minutes being totally ignored so we decided to leave. On our way out the guy serving at the bar, after having a few shots of whiskey “quietly” whispered “out”. Wish I’d never had booked that damn table
