Staff were amazing and really friendly, The grounds made up for the poor quality of the room and cleanliness. Other visitors had been years ago and loved it and noted how disappointed they were. I was expecting it to be great based on a recommendation received. Hot tubs weren't on. After a long day walking I was looking forward to a shower. Towels were still wet from the morning as the towel rail wasn't working. The things us ladies like I.e. lighting and a good mirror could only be achieved in the bathroom but there was not one ledge or shelf to put any toiletries on. Sink had just one big hole no fitted plug. You could see all the grime. All vents were dusty and blocked which as an asthmatic was poor to see. The ceiling which you obviously notice lying in bed was terrible and clearly had a problem with damp, leaks etc as could also be smelt in the corridor. I could go on but needless to say it just wasn't great for wha5 I was expecting to be lovely.

UPDATE: After my reveiw below I was contacted by the owners of the hotel chain. They said they were sorry for what had happened and they spoke with the staff involved and they said they was a misunderstanding and were unware that my Dad had been taken into hospital. They said they were sorry to hear this and wished him well. They then said they would issue a full refund. I want to say thank very much to Amaze Hotels for contacting us and rectifying the situation. My Dad is feeling better now he's had medication and he is booked in for an operation so he is hopefully on the road to recovery. Very annoyed. Booked a two night stay for my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary and unfortunately my Dad was rushed into hospital today (18/9) (the day they are meant to go). The staff was not willing to help move or try and rearrange another time for them and my Mum was willing to pay a little extra to move it but they said No unfortunately they lose it all. What is more is the first email I received from them was saying sorry you cant make it. I never received a booking confirmation or anything. But they took my money. It was only because I managed to work out that I could sign in on their website and I found a booking reference. Very very disappointed π My parents were really looking forward to it too. Not sure anyone will care about my review but I'd like to think it will make someone think. I just feel that they could have done something but all they are bothered about is making money. So really they got money for nothing. Really sad. Girl hoping her dad is ok..

This 13th century castle is like the tales retold. Amidst lush green land escapes this hotel is a nice choice to look back into the ruins thousand year back and feel amongst the company of peacocks like a king. Food is fantastic so the serving young and beautiful staff. However pool is not available at all and spa services are not upto the mark. A good place for walk, jog and romance.

Went to the hog roast, was very disappointing. We were told the pig was too big for the roasting machine so the meat came from the kitchen. Paid Β£12.50 for 1 sandwich with a bit of pork and stuffing (which we can get for 1/4 of the price at Chatwins down the road). Meat tasted fine but bread was a little hard. Staff were very friendly, just disappointing for a Hog roast.

Chose this extremely picturesque castle to celebrate my anniversary with my partner. The room was absolutely stunning! Amazing views over the moat and the castle grounds. The Peacocks are real characters and make the place even more special. They are beautiful, and you can feed them right out of your hand. The only part that wasn't perfect was the grounds and gardens had become overgrown and some litter was scatterred around ( This was due to the gardener being on holiday the past few weeks). Also, the food was quite bland and not of the same quality as the amazing hotel, and I was just expecting something a bit more special. I can't fault the staff, Kate in reception was amazing and quickly took on our feedback and rectified any problems.

Very cool idea to stay in a castle for the North Wales part of our trip. But understandably castles are quite old, and our room was really feeling the age. The bathroom especially. We could see some water damage and the harsh fluorescent lighting in there was pretty unpleasant. Also the bed frame also seemed quite old and creaky. We also staid during the arts festival, and while the exhibits were very interesting, having them play some of the videos on exhibit on repeat in the lobby didnβt make the Lobby feel like a particularly inviting place to hang out. That being said the views from the Castle are exquisite and walking the grounds was very nice, not least because of the many roaming peacocks. But overall Iβm not sure I would recommend staying here if youβre in North Wales.

Dog friendly hotel, staff are excellent, but rooms need attention (missing sink plug, chipped enamel, water stains on wallpaper etc). Breakfast is self service buffet and seemed reasonable every day of our stay - options for seating with our dog were very limited (bar area only) and so we went out to the village for dinner where the atmosphere in restaurants was better. The peacocks make a lot of noise early in the mornings and if you are a light sleeper this could be irritating? Grounds are lovely.

I had this stay as a 60th birthday present from my husband, as have always wanted to stay in a castle. When we arrived we were given a room upgrade which was such a lovely gesture. The staff on reception were very professional and helpful. We stayed in 1 of the suites which was really lovely. The breakfast was delicious and ruth the waitress was really lovely and very polite. Rory 1 of the bar/ waiters was extremely helpful, polite and such a lovely guy. Our meal in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and again the service from Rory was second to none. Would definitely recommend a stay here, yes it's looking a bit tired in places but it's 800 years old.

VERY disappointed by this spa break for two. In fact, it left us so annoyed that we didn't feel truly able to relax and enjoy it. Firstly, the deliberately angled website photos of the outdoor woodland hot tub area - portraying a 'private', tranquil and nature-immersive experience, is very misleading. As you can see in the photos there is nothing private about it. There are five tubs situated in a row, with no screening between them, in full view of the castle windows behind, literally right next to the path connecting the car park and main entrance. The highlight of this experience was seeing a rabbit. Once you pass through the main entrance, which is a fire exit next to some dirty deck chairs, you then reach the reception and changing rooms. The changing rooms are big enough to accommodate only a few people changing at any one time - definitely glad we picked the morning session; it would have been a nightmare in the afternoon as a few more people turned up. The facilities generally were very unclean across the board, especially in this area. The mould and damp is rife on the floors, walls and showers, with dust clogging the extractors and light fittings. The entire spa facility needs a significant deep clean. The spa itself is nothing more than a seating area, with a steam and sauna room. There is a 'quiet room' down the corridor - which would be no different to sitting at home with the curtains closed and lights off. Looks more like an adult film studio to be honest. The rest of the spa is just lacking. There is nothing to do but sit and look at the walls - making you all the more acutely aware of the dirt, and notice the makeup and fake tan smears sweated onto all the seating. There were also broken handles and buttons, with a lack of temperature control in the shower. The tea and coffee facility is very basic, complemented by a dirty sink. We had the private mud room treatment. Then again, there's nothing private about it when there's no lock on the door and you have to push the bench up against it to close it. Again, the room was very dirty with mould and damp everywhere. Whatever cleansing feeling you had soon dissipates. Whilst sitting in the waiting area upon leaving, I witnessed one lady and her husband being shown into the spa with smiles on their faces. I then chuckled to myself when I overheard them abruptly returning to reception 2 minutes later asking if they could bring forward their afternoon tea, as they couldn't possible drag out two hours in there. I didn't blame them. The only thing that helped this trip was walking around the grounds afterwards where we had a fun time feeding the peacocks on a sunny day. However, we left feeling very disappointed overall. This is in no means whatsoever a 'luxury' spa, or even adequately clean one. Other than the young staff who were perfectly pleasant enough... my partner and I were absolutely dumbfounded as to whatever reasons unknown to science that previous guests would have to compliment this place. If you want cheep and cheerful-ish, go for it. If you actually want to walk away feeling relaxed and like you got value for money... respectfully find somewhere else.

We didnβt stay in the hotel but had a walk around the grounds, after walking into Ruthin from our holiday accommodation. Oh my god the peacocks were amazing, we were pretty much surrounded by them and the screech they made was spooky. They are beautiful creatures. The gardens are lovely. The hotel looked beautiful and the car park was full so they must be doing well. Rabbits running around too. Loved it and definitely worth a visit. We had fantastic weather on Fri-Sunday in April too which made it all the more enjoyable.

On arrival The grounds are well kept however once inside itβs very dated and requires restoration. The room was a deluxe one the pillows were awful the mattress was poor. The towels had holes in. The breakfast was pour quality food we didnβt eat breakfast on the second day due to this. We were on the third floor so 7 flights of stairs. The website photos do not show the true appearance of the castle.

We were so stoked to be staying in a castle but it was a bit of a let down. The castle and the grounds were gorgeous. But the room was a bit rough. We stayed in the prince of Wales suite because I wanted that giant bathtub. The bathtub was lovely, that's my only compliment. The room was sooooo dark you couldn't see a dang thing. Which probably helped because once it was sunny outside and we opened all the curtains we saw all the problems. Soooo many stains in the carpet. Lots of cobwebs. Dated EVERYTHING. The couch was hard to sit on because the cushions just slid off. The bed was so squished in the middle they needed a new mattress back in 1994. We slept backwards on the bed (head where your feet go) so that our feet weren't over our heads. Pillows with weird concerning stains on them. The bathroom had legit MOLD on the ceilings. No soap. The whole room needs a serious facelift and mold removal. Please for the love of God just get a new mattress. They're like $700. Just do it. The food was really awful. I mean really awful. My bf got dinner there for Β£20 and it was lukewarm and overcooked and just not great. Β£8 for a pint. Breakfast was atrocious. Fake orange juice and fake apple juice. Tomatoes from cans. Weird plastic cold eggs. Instant coffee. Like c'mon. If there was a corner to cut to save money this was it. Do yourself a favor and go to the Spoons down the road. You can even walk there. I got a sandwich and soup with my spa package and that was actually super good. The spa was okay. The sauna and hot steam room were nice. Attendants were super lovely and friendly. I did a mud mask thing which was cool. I got a massage that was basically a gentle rub down. The massage room was freezing by the way and you lay on these over bleached towels and your face is smashed into the face hole of the table. One of my least favorite massages to this day. The hot tubs were nice.

I was treated by my son and daughter to a 2 night stay here for my 65th birthday. When I walked into the room I was sharing with my daughter I was so surprised. We are assuming my room had been upgraded for my birthday as compared to the normal room my son had my room was massive. I loved it. The grounds are great for exploring and the peacocks and rabbits roaming about are a joy to see. We had a drink in the bar but didn't try the food as my son is a vegan and so we tried different places. What a shame! We visited this past Saturday (9th March) for a treatment & spa expeience for my partners birthday. The Spa staff who greeted us were lovely & we thought that this was going to be amazing, unfortunately this is were our good experience ended. We went into the locker rooms to change. I have to say it was the most dirty locker room I have ever needed to change in. It clearly has not been cleaned anytime recently & had a pretty bad smell to it. The locker I was allocated I quickly realised did not lock so I had to go back to the spa staff to ask for another. The spa lady said that she would report it to maintenance. The female changing rooms were the same & apparently no lock on the one cubical door either! We then went for a luxury mud treatment... This was not what we were expecting. I will try to sum it up briefly, it was 2 tubs of mud that we had to apply ourselves then press the on button & steam will come down. The on button didn't work, I had to telephone someone to come down to look at it for us. The steam did not come on within 10 minutes it came on after about 15-20 minutes. The shower to wash the mud off (in the steam room) was like a trickle so we had to use the main shower. The steam room door did not shut (it has a gap so the steam escapes). The main room door had no lock. The main thing which spoiled the whole experience was the thick black dirt on the grout everywhere in the room made us feel uncomfortable & not in a relaxed state. We couldn't wait to get out of there. The sauna was great however multiple wooden slates were loose causing my partner to slip. Reported to the Spa staff - they would get maintenance to look at it. There is not enough seating in the chill out area, people were waiting to come in so we went to the quiet room. (The air con unit in the ceiling is broken to it makes a clicking sound- not relaxing) We then went for our hot tub. We asked for a prosecco - none available due to a delivery shortage. I asked if anyone could get some from the Castle Bar to which I was told I don't know. The hot tub itself was great if not a bit in full show of passers by! I then went to shower. The left hand shower in the mens is broken, ice cold water only. The right hand shower was so dirty & had no soap in the dispenser. Again mentioned it to the spa staff- advised they will speak to maintenance. We then went for our cream tea, the scones & drinks were great! The room itself again was dirty & clearly had not been cleaned. We ate quickly & left due to feeling uncomfortable. At no point did anyone ask if were ok or had a good experience. I emailed the hotel detailing the above & asked for a manager to call me. 10 days & waiting still no reply or acknowledgement.

Staff were welcoming and the food was fantastic but the spa was a complete let down. There is a quiet room filled with beds on the floor and two other small seating areas which got very busy. One sauna and one steam room which again were very busy. Hot tubs were nice but didnβt take away from the fact that a lot of work needs doing to improve this area and itβs nothing like its sister spa in Macclesfield. Showers were cold. Not enough of an area to get changed apart from one room. Disappointing experience overall

This was our first stay in a castle (wont be our last). The room we stayed in was reasonably priced but there are other rooms far more upmarket here if you want to get that little extra from your stay. As it is a castle it can get chilly at times but this is a small issue when you consider how beautiful the castle and grounds are with a flock of peacocks living there as well. Food was good and felt like we were eating our meals in Hogwarts and the staff were friendly. Was lovely with all the coal fires on in the bar and restaurant area Tis dog friendly and there is WiFi here as well. We will definitely be coming here again, love it.
