Great place, but doesn't open every day during summer holidays. Make sure to book so you know it's open!

Birchwood Vale Community Cafe is run each Monday - term time - at the Rural Catering Centre by the students of Birchwood Vale School. Now a regular retreat for myself, family and friends! Great prices, beautiful cakes and really lovely freshly made salads and sandwiches. The students are great and greet you with the hugest smiles and go out of their way to make your visit an enjoyable one. Would definitely recommend.

Last month the RCC hosted our Annual Awards Evening. It was a brilliant night. The staff could not have been more accommodating and supportive in the lead up to and while planning the event. On the night the whole thing ran like clockwork. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The serving staff were accommodating and a great night was had by all. Can’t recommend highly enough if you are looking for a venue for an event or just fancy a lovely lunch.

Arrived at restaurant at mid day - Finished three course meal at 14.50pm. The service was really slow and totally disorganised. There was a limited choice on the menu but the food - when it arrived was good. Coffee and tee arrived but no milk or teaspoons. We had to ask for all of these items. The staff did appologise for the delays in serving the meals and reduced the final bill which was for a group of fourteen people. Will not be visiting again - very disappointing. More supervision required from senior staff. !

We have just held a meal for our organisation at the Rural Catering Centre. The menu and quality of food were excellent with an appetiser, starter, salad, main course, sweet and coffee. I particularly enjoyed the mackerel and the pork was cooked to perfection. The students and staff made us most welcome and provided a high standard of service. We shall be returning!

We tried to book for Christmas lunch last year but it was fully booked, which says a lot in my book! We were successful this year and what a treat it was.. The restaurant was clean, festive and very welcoming,as were the staff. We were shown to our table by a very courteous young man who pulled the chairs out for us and placed a napkin on our knees, offered us the drinks menu and recommended an alacaholic or non alcoholic cocktail to go with our lunch. A lovely thought which proved to be a lovely accompaniment to our meal.. Our waitress brought us ice cold water, delicious appetisers and fresh baked warm rolls, followed by either soup or terrine, both of which were superbly presented and very tasty. The main course of turkey with “all the traditional trimmings”, was hot, well cooked and delicious and went down a treat. To finish we had Black Forest trifle and Christmas pudding.. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, efficient and attentive without being obtrusive throughout our meal. All in all, a very pleasant start to our Christmas Lunch Season! We sincerely hope that all the catering “students” pass their exams with flying colours. Well done all of you.. Josephine and Brian

Great visit with year 10 Catering students. Fantastic setup where students studying hospitality and catering cook and serve the food to the general public. They do all the welcoming and serving. We were served mocktail and bread rolls then roast chicken, potato, carrot, parsnip and gravy and then Apple crumble and custard. Though the chocolate dessert looked wonderful. We were then given a tour of the facilities and the students were told how the course would be run. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Open on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtime 11:30-14:00 walk in and Thursday evening booking only. Very reasonably priced. :-):-)

We had a three course lunch today and everything was delicious. The waiting staff were excellent, all of them being students at the college. They were very professional and we had a very pleasant experience overall. The complimentary bread at the start was the best bread I have tried in years, I wish they sold it to take away! We will certainly return and I have already recommend the restaurant to several friends. The value for money is brilliant too, so I can very highly recommend this restaurant.

3rd time here, this place really has the edge. We have visited many catering colleges and this is by far the best. For £18.95 you get an apitizer which today was carrot soup, a starter, intermediate (usually fish), main, pudding, coffee and petit fours. Some of these colleges have got too big for their boots and have started limiting the food so you leave hungry, not here! We travel for nearly an hour to get here and it's worth it. Keep up the good work and see you all next academic year!

took a group of over 20 people there a week ago and everyone said the meals were delicious and the service was very friendly and efficient. The room was cozy and yet spacious and light with plenty of space between tables. The decor is modern with lots of interesting paintings on the walls, mostly of assorted animals as befits the association with Brooksby. We all enjoyed the experience and will certainly be visiting the restaurant again.

I emailed ahead to say that I was vegan and if they could cater for me then that would be helpful. It was fantastic. Carrot soup to start which was the normal starter but mine was without the cream. A wonderful stirfry with aubergine and onion with brown rice for mains which was based on the duck one on the menu. Followed by a caramelised orange, roasted fig, mango and blackcurrant pudding which was outstanding. Two of my friends also chose to have it. My friends' food was equally good and we all said that it was the best meal we'd had in the town for quite a while. The service was professional, courteous, respectful and keen to help. The room itself was welcoming and was about three-quarters full. There is an area between the reception and the dining room with sofas for visitors to sit and have coffee. Overall a very enjoyable lunch with friends.

So I had a smashing lunch. Good food and charming service. It's a training restaurant and the students are clearly on their ways to success. It's also a pleasant room with lovely pictures on the wall. I'll be back for dinner soon.

By far the best dining experience in melton Mowbray so far! Delicious; freshly cooked food and amazing service . Ambience was relaxed and we didn’t feel rushed so were able to enjoy our food and good conversation . Would recommend the tasty curries , sides .. we didn’t have room for dessert !!

Called in when passing through and was met by a very friendly lady who showed us to a table. It is an attractive little cafe with a great menu and the staff were so welcoming. We had a bacon and mushroom omelette and a cheese and onion toastie, both served with salad and accompanied by two lattes. Drinks were served promptly and food followed shortly on hot plates. Cannot fault it at all and would highly recommend this wonderful little place.

We go to Melton Mowbray every year to get our car mot'd & while that's being done we walk into town & have a wander round & get a bite to eat. This year we tried 'Kristies' & we weren't disappointed. As you walk through the door you're greeted with a lovely smile & a 'hello'. The decor & ambiance are lovely, just what you want in a tea room. The girls are all really friendly and they make you feel right at home. & the food is so good. The portions are big enough to fill you up but not too big you end up feeling over full, unless you want to!!! & they are 'really' tasty! We loved the sticky toffee pudding! It's probably the best one we've had in a very long time!!!! If you're in Melton Mowbray & you want a nice relaxing meal in a lovely tea room with lovely friendly girls then definitely give Kristies a try. You won't be disappointed. We'll definitely be going back next year on mot day! See you then everyone at Kristies. x
