I’ll start with the good …The food tasted nice . That’s it !!! Now if the bad …It’s so so small for the price you pay …. Very very upsetting …. Very small take away containers .. & the rice is so expensive Five pound for fried rice i will not return I believe you would have to search long and hard to find take away containers this small

Not really worth it. The amount paid vs the food we get. Mainly portion of the food. Tom yam soup has very small portions for 12£. Taste is just normal. To add I am an Asian person may be that why my satisfaction is very low to be fair.

I do not often write reviews as it is difficult to sound constructive especially when you do not have a lot of nice things to say however here goes nothing. The service was great the food on the other hand was probably some of the worst food I've had in several years. We recieved our food incredibly quickly which begged the question to whether it was fresh. After tasting the food it was evident that perhaps it may not have been. Out of the 5 items we ordered not one of them was hot, all luke warm at best. The pork ribs were warm and tasted old, dim sum over 8 pounds for what you recieved is questionable and that is being polite. All the food tasted like it is kept in a hot hold of some sort, the best part of the meal was the lettuce and carrot garnish on two of the plates as it was the only thing that tasted fresh. Is summary, the food was probably the worst I've eaten in several years, we will certainly not be back. I realise the above may be difficult to take however it is feedback from two disappointed guests. Regards

Service was great. Food mediocre at best. Milk for the coffee was off and curdled but that was rectified. Some of the food was cold. The aromatic crispy duck wasn't. The volcano chicken was tough and chewy,tasted and looked like processed meat. Despite the menu saying the chef would be happy to cook anything, they couldn't accommodate allergies. Rice is made in advance and sits there so onion allergy couldn't be accommodated. Asked for hot and sour chicken, couldn't make it but said they could put more chilli in sweet and sout. Asked for diet coke, got full fat. Not helpful for a diabetic and no warning given. This restaurant was amazing when we used to come here pre covid.sadly it isn't anymore. We won't be returning and don't recommend.

The restaurants we tried to eat were all full or booked, at about 7 in the evening. But the Royal Thai was not. I could see only two or three tables being used, which was discouraging. The staff were very attentive, perhaps because the restaurant was quiet and the food was excellent.

Freaking awesome! I had an incredible experience at Royal Thai in Northampton! The spicy papaya salad was a flavor explosion - the perfect blend of sweetness and heat. Some like it hot and this place happily obliged. The Tom Yum noodle soup was equally impressive, with a rich broth that left me craving more. The attentive service and inviting atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience. Great poppers Ngoc Thai pop music too. Highly recommend!

Food is very nice, but it tastes more like Chinese then Thai.

Unfortunately after I ate my food I went to the toilet and as I came out the cubicle I was washing my hands and one of the chefs came out the toilet next to me walked out and didn’t wash her hands which is disgusting. Food wasn’t great meat tasted gone off, disappointing

One of the best Thai restaurants in the UK

Last night will be the last time I use this place, I've given them enough chances. Dry chicken in green curry plus £ for sticky rice that is a solid block of rice pudding!! Sort the pricing a quality out in your take away food.

Be wary if you are a non meat eater. I'm a strict vegetarian, and I've ordered twice from this restaurant - the first time I found a chunk of meat when I chose the tofu option, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered a different dish a couple months later, once again choosing tofu, and was given chicken. Will not be ordering from here again.

I think they have given up trying to please clients and reverting to just ripping them off by over charging. We used to come here a lot before lock down and always lovely food and service. Went recently and instead of the free prawn crackers we were charge £5.45 !!!! for a small basket. At the time we didn’t check the bill but on getting home and checking their website found we were overcharged on 50% of the bill - buyer beware !!!!

We have ordered from Royal Thai on Uber Eats many times (and it's always delicious) but today was our first time dining in and it was so wonderful. The staff were lovely and the food was exceptional (and beautiful!) The Massaman curry with lamb is a definite favourite! We feel so lucky to have such great Thai food in Northampton ❤️

Not as authentic as I expected. The Thai Green curry was very watery and felt like vegetables came from a can. The portion sizes were too small for the price. The ambience and drinks were decent.

We ordered a takeaway from here which has always been great, but the portion size and quality and drastically reduced where the prices have gone through the roof. 5 tiny dim sum balls for £9, absolutely ridiculous! Rice £6.50, only received half a tub about 50p worth of rice! If the quality matched the price I wouldn't have had an issue, but it is very far from that.

Very quiet when we visited on a Tuesday evening, the food was tasty but not very large portions for the price. May go back again.

The food was magnificent, everything from the green curry and rice, to the papaya salad, and the pad Thai - I thoroughly enjoyed all of it! I will definitely recommend this restaurant to more of my friends and family, and I look forward to returning again soon.

Probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in the UK. Magnificent staff, especially Mena and Jay. They are so lovely to talk to. The food is just so perfect! It was so mouth watering from the food presentation to the taste. You’ll definitely taste the authentic thai food. Will surely comeback and bring more friends with me.

Food was awful, watery mess of a curry, the prawns were so badly overcooked you could barely bite into them, pad Thai was like a sticky block of very very soggy noodles, so disappointing, ended up in the bin

Very good food and decor, the portions were big, free wifi and thai music aired by Beach Radio.

Great food and delivered on time. The only disappointment was the sticky rice… £3.95 for a lump of inedible mush! However, it won’t put me off ordering again. Please focus on the rice!

Expensive and food is decidedly second rate.

Really bad first experience. Chips uncooked and a tiny child portion in a plastic container making them steam and soggy. Sticky Thia rice was in a plastic bag looks like its been in the microwave it was rock solid in a hard square shape, well! Over cooked . The noodles tasted of oil no taste at all other than that. Poor red curry from a powder mix by the taste of it. The dishes were 9.95 each and it came to 30.00 I assumed it would be authentic I was not expecting it to be reheated processed food. Unfortunately a hideous meal.

WOW! Only ordered a mixed starter platter. Took an hour to come and was burnt and ice cold. This is consistent. DEFINITELY WOULDN’T RECOMMEND!!

Food was good, but unfortunately the service was the worst that my partner and I had ever experienced Drink orders did not arrive and they had to be reminded, when they turned up they weren’t what we had ordered. We weren’t offered a dessert menu or any hot drinks after our meal. When we asked they said that we’re closing and threw the bill at us, we paid with cash and didn’t even offer us our change, they just arrogantly assumed that they were entitled to a tip for there below par service.

Found on deliveroo, very happy we orderd. All I have to say is, if it's this good being delivered I can't imagine how good it is to sit in. Very tasty and fresh ingredients. Will definitely pay a visit in person soon.

I often eat here as the food is fantastic. I brought my little boy for the first time today and the waiter spent time talking to him, suggesting food on the menu and teaching him a little Thai. He loved the food too and was thrilled at the kind and patient attention from staff. I have consistently good quality food here and will continue to be a regular customer.

Ordered a takeaway, and this was very bland and the quality just didnt seem to be there any more Spring rolls chewy, curry was very basic, and this restaurant has seemingly gone downhill So, I will vote with my feet & never use them again

After reading reviews I feel we must have visited on their worst off day. Service was poor when food was delivered we were still waiting for drinks! When drinks arrived the pineapple did not taste or look good, A replacement was brought which tasted slightly better but within a few minutes it separated to a light top and murky bottom! We then asked for a glass of water which took a further request to arrive . Main course arrived mine was good but my wife’s was not as expected (a sizzling plater) it was not not sizzling plate but served in foil put on a plate which was not sizzling, the taste just was not there. The furnishings were a bit tired and a flat screen to made it look like a takeaway with tables. To sum up my food was good but everything else was disappointing especially the service.

Literally stole my money?! Ordered on Deliveroo, they called to say an item would be missing as they didn’t have it, but that they’d put the cash in for the item instead. Food comes and there’s no cash. They then ignored all emails and calls to try and rectify the situation, so I’m just out of money. As for the food I did receive- the noodles were swimming in oil and I’ve had better spring rolls in sainsburys. Neither got finished. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!

Authentic and delicious Thai food! 🇹🇭 Home Away from Home 🍜 I will be coming back again & again! Being half-Thai myself, I grew up on Thai food and crave that aromatic, fresh and spicy authentic Thai food - Royal Thai Northampton did not disappoint! The jumbo prawns were fresh and cooked to perfection, the noodles were delicious and spicy just like I had asked! All dishes were a good portion size, especially for the price The vibe is always fun, welcoming & friendly just like in Thailand - if you have ever been, you will know what I mean! The staff from the owner, to the chef and servers were all Thai - I could speak the language to them and you don’t get more authentic than that!

This isn’t Thai cuisine… not remotely. I have spent a lot of time in Thailand and I know what authentic Thai cuisine tastes like.

I have always been a big fan of Thai food, love to try out local dishes when I am there Royal Thai Northampton have got it absolutely perfect, you can tell the chef is Thai Very authentic The pad Thai was perfectly sweet and tangy, the larb chicken bursting with flavour The portion sizes were big - never leave that place hungry and doesn’t put a dent in the wallet either Time to support our locals! I will be coming back

Wow what great thai restaurant ..... I move from Thailand many year ago and can not finds good restaurant it the royal thai is best real thai food restaurant.... I definitely will come back many time ....I miss thai karaoke and they even have that too ...... fun fun fun

Dreadful food,worse customer service

Have only eaten as a takeaway, but the food was fantastic! Very tasty and reasonably priced.

We ordered on Deliveroo and the service was prompt but the food simply inedible. Mussels sent were really strong smelling and the coconut milk sauce watery and salty. The chicken massaman squidgy and strong smelling. Vegetable tempura was a mixture of undercooked veg and flaccid batter. The batter issue could have been the effect of boxed delivery- everything else definitely not. Saturday night cheese sandwich. How sad.

So much better than just a typical Thai restaurant. Amazing tasty food and great service. Highly recommend either eat in or delivery.

We went on a Saturday night, it was reasonably busy. We had a set menu, the starters were OK as was the selection of mains, but only just OK. If you have no idea what thai food is supposed to taste like, or your not fussy about ordinary surroundings, you'll be reasonably happy with the food. It was our 2nd visit and definitely the last.

We visited the Royal Thai for the first time a week ago and will definitely be returning after our great experience. There is a wide authentic menu choice and helpful waiting staff. Our food was served swiftly and was delicious - already looking forward to coming back again and will be recommending to others!

I rarely write reviews but our meal this evening was fully deserving of this. The Royal Thai on the Welly Road is outstanding; the food was terrific, tasty and good portions and the staff were so friendly. In addition the cost was very reasonable making this a must restaurant to frequent - we will definitely return.

Oh goodness, I have eaten Thai many times and even eating in the royal Thai itself. Decided to order in from there tonight. Ordered the Tom yum prawns, prawns sizzling, and pad Thai kee mao jumbo prawns. Firstly all the dishes were so very disappointing to the point we couldn’t eat any of it, but the worst was the Thai noodles ( pad kee mao) the smell was excruciatingly bad. I eat authentic thai all the time, and this food was very disturbing prudent smell was so overwhelmingly disgusting untouchable. Never again Also why are you charging, 2.50 for delivery, 15p for bag and then 50p for service? Bit extortionate considering the food was so bad Review re-edited on 2.02.2022. Following response from Royal Thai: @Royal Thai I am absolutely appalled at the sheer lie in regards to what you offered me. You did not offer me any of the options you indicated, in fact what you said was “get a refund through just eat then, or come and drop the food of to us so we can see whether there is a problem” we refused to come and drop the food off as we ordered the food and were staying in that night! You then proceeded to tell us “you have high reviews on google and do not believe our statement regarding your food is correct” and hunged up! Please don’t lie and act all apologetic when on the phone you were far from it!

Lovely staff and satisfying food options...Good value for money

I don't think our delivery was cooked fresh. The chicken in the Pad Thai was so hard and rubbery I couldn't even bite through it, like at all. I've never experienced chicken like that in my life. The skewers also seemed reheated in oil and stale. The red curry wasn't bad but overall the order was a waste of money because we didn't eat most of it. Hopefully this was a one off and they make their food fresh in the future but I won't be ordering again.

Had a lovely take away for New Year. Really organised and ready to collect for our requested collection time. Lovely food, will order again.

Ordered delivery and got the wrong one. Third time they messed up. Phoned them up and they agreed to send the correct dish, but no apology. After 2 hours of waiting, the food finally arrived, but the seafood was almost raw. We have had this seafood papaya salad many times here and this was the only time it was raw. We phoned them up to ask about this and they explained that seafood is normally raw. They only started apologising when we mentioned that we were regulars and were very disappointed today. Hoping this isn't some kind of revenge attempt via food poisoning 🙂.. 😮.. 😱 Recommend this place to anybody who doesn't mind welcoming parasites into their gut from this 'normally raw seafood'.

Three of us came here for a pre-Christmas catch-up. The restaurant wasn't as busy as we expected, but there were clearly a lot of takeaways and deliveries, as the phone was ringing off the hook and Deliveroo/Uber riders were coming and going. Our drinks order was taken and it took a while to arrive. Then we had a bit of a wait for our order to be taken. And then we waited and waited. After an hour we still hadn't received our starters and when I pointed this out to the waiter they arrived within a couple of minutes...but one was wrong. Lots of apologies and it was soon replaced. Starters (battered veg, spring rolls and Thai fish cakes) tasted good, but the fish cakes were warm rather than hot. Our mains came out more quickly, but clearly there was a staffing issue on this evening as another table had some of their food brought out by a chef, and a few customers got their takeaways for free because of the wait. We had two curries (yellow and red), volcano chicken and rice for our mains. The curries tasted good but my volcano chicken was described as being sizzling with a chilli sauce. It was on a skillet, but the chicken and sauce was placed in a tin foil 'boat' on the skillet so didn't sizzle at all, but instead bubbled. Overall, our experiences were mixed but for me I was underwhelmed by the food I had. Coupled with the delays, I was very disappointed. In addition, while staff did apologise profusely for the delays, it was a shame they didn't offer something complimentary or a bit of a discount, especially as I saw three people go out the door with free takeaways because of waiting. As such, I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back again.

Went to Royal Thai on a whim, fancying some spicy food. I’d not been there for a couple of years, mainly due to the pandemic. I was pleased to find out that the food and service were as good as ever. However, despite it being a Saturday evening, they weren’t as busy as they deserved to be. So I vowed to give them a review so they can get some more trade, as the food is tasty, with a menu to suit most palates, good value (we spent £50 on two starters, two mains and drinks) and the service is friendly and attentive.

I’m afraid I was left very disappointed after visiting this restaurant on Friday. We ordered a set menu for five at a cost of around I think it was £23 pp approximately, although we added a mixed starter platter at £7 per head , as there was no starter dishes on the set menu option. Unfortunately, the starters arrived at the same time as the duck. Most of the dishes were good with the exception of the squid, which was chewy and overcooked. The ‘crispy’ duck wasn’t crispy at all. It came as minced pieces. It looked & tasted more like baby food. There was none of that nice crispy shredded texture or taste that is normally associated with this dish. The main courses were pleasant enough. The nicest dish was the Thai green curry which was a good spice level. We did ask for some more rice but that never came. The desert was banana fritters with ice cream. These were lovely and presented nicely. The evening we visited this restaurant there was a birthday celebration which included a noisy karaoke. Pleasant at times but far too loud. We were having to shout to each other to be heard. During our visit we all had to go to the toilet at one time or another but sadly this facility really needs improving as does the decor of the main restaurant which I thought, personally, was a little tatty as there were throws over the benches and I just felt the whole place needed revamping somewhat. The staff were friendly but sadly I won’t hurry to go back any time soon.

I emailed in the week to book a table and ask a question about the menu, and had no reply. I then called and got their voice mail, which said leave a message to book a table and they would ring back to confirm - which no-one did. We decided to take a chance anyway as we wanted to eat early, and we were easily able to get a table. The server was polite, friendly and helpful. The starters came out quickly, but there was a long wait for the mains. The server brought over hot plates, obviously in anticipation of the food being ready, but they had to replace them again later suggesting something might have gone wrong with the order. I ordered the green curry, and it was so sweet that I couldn't eat it. I picked out the vegetables but couldn't get through the sauce. In retrospect, it was far more yellow than green, so I cannot help but wonder if they served me the wrong food. Perhaps my dinner left with the Just Eat driver who arrived not long after we did, and that was the delay with the food coming out...? That said, my partner had the Tom Kha soup which was delicious, plus was really happy with the Dim Sum starter, so I'm going to give them another chance.

Fabulous food. Fantastic service. Ambient atmosphere. Who could ask for more? Will definitely be going back.

Decided to have dinner at the Royal Thai as the Green Loft opposite was closed. So glad we did. The food was delicious and reminded me of the authentic Thai food I've had in Thailand. The service was faultless. Can't wait to go again, it's a real gem and you must eat here.

Amazing!!! Came from Birmingham to enjoy some Thai food and was very happy with my choice. Both the food and service was excellent. I can’t thank the waiters enough! Definitely recommend!

The food arrived dead on time but the whole order was stone cold. Not one single bit of it was even Luke warm. So we had to microwave the whole lot. The food itself was o.k. not a lot of it. Considering it cost £45 for the 2 of us we were really disappointed. Would certainly not recommend it. Definitely won’t be using it again.

Really disappointed with this meal. I've always loved their food but a beef massaman curry - this was not! 2 pieces of beef and what looked like meatballs turned out to be potato (no idea what made them look like this). Prawn crackers were stale. Delivery was late. Gutted. Will think twice before ordering again sadly.

We had the most amazing food tonight from here. The duck in tamarind sauce was devine. Massaman with lamb was mouthwatering. Worth the journey honestly this is the best Thia food in the county. Will certainly be making a booking to eat in the restaurant.

I’ve been to most restaurants in Northampton and this is by far the best. Everything tried was on point. I recommend the mixed starter and the duck.

Lovely food and friendly service. We went on a Friday evening and the restaurant was very quiet. The duck curry was delicious.

We booked and sat at the table at 7p.m, after 20 minutes and with some prompting we managed to get a drinks/food order taken. 15 minutes later the drinks arrived minus a bottle of sparkling water, 1 minute later a bottle of wine arrived that we hadn't ordered. We explained that there must have been a mix up, 10 minutes later the water still hadn't arrived so I had to approach the bar. After an hour and a quarter of no food arriving at all, I made the bold decision to approach someone who looked like they may be in charge. I was shouted at and told it would be on its way, 15 minutes later, 1 hour and a half after ordering it arrived. Although the food was hot it was disappointing, the curry that I and a friend had ordered had the consistency of a thin soup. The pad thai for some inexplicable reason was sweet and sour. From start to finish there seemed to be utter confusion in the restaurant, all this happening whilst the owners (confirmed by the waitress), where seated at a table nearby having a few drinks and a meal. Occasionally standing to shout at some staff on the floor or in the kitchen. All of this was underscored by a backdrop of horrendous repetitive music, that makes your ears bleed - but the benefit of keeping you awake, whilst you wait for your food. Wont be going back, very poor indeed.

Sadly not the best experience. Booked a table but got seated on a table that was crammed between 2 other tables. Felt way too close to other people so moved to a better table. Great to see the restaurant so busy but service was so slow - had to get the waiters attention every step of the way - to order drinks and food, for extra drinks, ask where our food was, for the bill etc. A table behind us had waited 2hrs for their main course! Not sure if short staffed or they couldn’t cope with all the bookings needing to get out before 10pm but a lot of people were waiting too long for food and service. The good tasted amazing as always but sadly wasn’t very hot this time as plates cold and food went cold really quickly. Too busy to bother sending back. It hasn’t put us off as the food was amazing still but will try mid week instead where hopefully it’ll be quieter!

for the dishes we ordered. Had fish cakes from a la carte menu. Pork on skewers as starter from lunch menu. Also pad Thai and spicy rice noodles which were very good. Problem I have is the use of tomato ketchup in pad Thai, otherwise it would have been better. Other dishes were tasty.

Nearly three hours and multiple phone calls later the food hadn’t arrived (despite being told each time that it was on the way) and we cancelled the order. They then tried to claim that they couldn’t process a refund over the phone and we’d have to take our card to them, obviously hoping that would dissuade us from seeking a refund. The food finally arrived at 10:05pm. First and last order.

Rung up the restaurant to book a table for 2 people, the lady who took my call confirmed the reservation. We were really looking forward to it as we'd heard great things. Later I got a phone call from a gentleman to say my booking was cancelled. I had booked for 6pm and was offered 9pm instead. When asked why I couldn't come at 6pm as booked I was told "because you can't. 9pm only" . I didn't want to eat at 9pm. The Eat Out scheme is taking it's toll on restaurants, many of which clearly cannot cope with the demand or number of reservations.

Decent Thai spot, really nice presentation. Feels a little overpriced, but then I always feel the same after receiving the bill at a Thai restaurant, you do pay for the finesse and subtlety of flavours...

The best place to have Thai food in Northampton. I have studied in Thailand for 3 years. And the food here always remind me of my memories in Thailand.
