Rose & Crown - Beverley in East Riding of Yorkshire

After having three previous evening meals here, all at a high standard, we took friends for a meal last Thursday. 3 of us ordered the Chicken/chorizo/halloumi squewer. All 3 kebabs were not cooked properly,the Chicken & chorizo almost raw. The chicken was also a cheap processed rubbery type, not of good quality. I communicated this to the waitress, who was new/young. She said she'd tell the Chef, then came back minutes later,saying that the chef said it was pink because it was marinated, which was a joke as the chorizo was also "rare". I shook my head at her, saying " You're joking"? At which point she walked off. We then paid the bill, with no apology or discount given. The senior waitress was rude and also had no customer care. Shame as we'd had good experiences there previously

Fantastic pub in the heart of Beverley. Great range of Gluten Free food, we had fish & Chips - huge portion sizes washed down with a nice pint of Neck oil.

A group of four attended during the afternoon. Had hoped for some food but they don't serve when the races are on. That's understandable. The beer garden is lovely in the sun and the staff are friendly and helpful. Would go again on a sunny afternoon. Revisited Saturday 13th April. Sat in the sun in the rear beer garden. A lovely sun trap. Watching the lovely looking food been served it tempted us to try. Not disappointed. It was excellent. Fish and chips, and the cajun chicken skewer was superb! Give it a go!

A fantastic venue for any occasion, I highly recommend the rose and crown for both food and drink in Beverley. Especially the Sunday roasts! Exceptional service from the staff as always!

We're back again, this time for another family event namely Mother's day. Roast dinner. Options with 3 meats of pork, beef and turkey or all three if you are really hungry, huge yorky pud, veg's, stuffing, crackling, mash, gravy and cauliflower cheese for extra £3. Worth every penny! 👍 Beware! Portions are big! 😀 Yes you do need to book well in advance because it's busy busy busy! The staff are great (special thanks to Alex and the team). We're already booked for our next event. See you there! 😂

I was attending a monthly meeting, held in one of the function rooms above the bar. I usually have 2 pints of 0% lager, which is on draught. The ambience of the bar is very pleasant and with no music playing one can have conversations with ease. The staff are very busy so you might have to wait a little to be served, but the greeting is warm and friendly. I have only eaten the food at our Xmas party, but it is very tasty.

It was Excellent food, warm fire and dog friendly. Update. Went there to celebrate my birthday and came away not happy. Table booked for 6:30 and it wasn't in use and we still had to wait for it. My gammon steak arrived cold on a cold plate. Was taken away and arrived back 5 minutes or so later luke warm minus the bit I'd already chopped off and put in my mouth, so goodness knows where that went. Group of 6 women sat nearby dround out table conversation with their very loud cackling and conversation. Not a chance we'll go back again. I don't normally write bad reviews but think in this case it is fully justified.

Food was lovely, quite big portions too! The Biscoff sundae was amazing and just the right size! The staff were friendly and accommodating but not over bearing like some places. Would definitely recommend. 👌

Making a visit here we were greeted by a very pleasant barman who welcomed us and showed us to a table. The pub itself is a typical city pub. It has a nice area to the front of the pub to sit. This is next to the road and a 4 way traffic light system but still quite pleasant. There is a bear garden to the rear but this was closed so we did not get to see this. It’s clean and has some nice little quirky features. I ordered steak and ale pie, mash and veg. My other half ordered a satay chicken kebab. We ordered a drink and the wait time from making an order to the meals being put on the table was just over 40 minutes. It felt a lot longer. Whilst sat waiting 3 different sets of people came in with dogs and were allowed to sit with dogs in the dining area. This I was not impressed with what’s so ever as I could smell the dog sat only 3-4 foot away from me. Come on people are eating food and dogs just sit there. At one point 2 dogs both quite big were facing off to each other barking like mad at each other. I was surprised at this is allowed to happen let alone allowing the dogs into the area of people eating. The food, well I have to say the food despite a long wait was out of this world. The meat in my steak and ale pie was so tender and tasty. The mash so smooth and creamy and the veg delicious. The gravy was rich and really really good. Clearly the long wait was due to the food being cooked so freshly and after eating commented to my other half it was worth the wait. It’s just such a shame that the dogs spoiled our visit as the food was out of this world.

Came for lunch with 2 doggies and had a lovely time. Fire lit and so cosy. The staff were so attentive. Had a lovely relaxing time. Would highly recommend

Well presented, staff friendly and attentive. Looks like it's doing a good trade as plenty of people in. Everything clean and toilets nice. Only been here once but if you are in Beverley certainly give it a try

Dodging the showers in Beverley so just went in because the rain started again. Made to feel very welcome. Full table service. Food was excellent. Large portion sizes beat us though. Server was attentive but not overly so which was nice. Well recommended.

After previously visiting the sister pub ( The Railway, New Ellerby ) my walking group could not wait to have Sunday lunch yesterday. We were not disappointed. Roasts excellent, nice meat, plentiful vegetables, roast and mashed potato’s, home made Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. Others enjoyed the gammon, scampi and curry. No one was disappointed, other than I didn’t order the cauliflower cheese myself. We were located in the fabulous function room, which I highly recommend.

Visited for a surprise birthday party. The service was excellent, the surroundings lovely and the food was excellent.

Cosy inviting pub a few minutes walk from Beverley Town centre. Serving wide selection of beers on Keg & cask, wines & spirits. Fantastic menu available. We had an amazing Sunday lunch. Reasonable prices for a brilliant lunch.Take and appetite.

Nice place. Just disappointed that the Sunday roast had pepper in the mash potato as well as on the roasts. It's disappointing that yet another place has gone down the route of white and black pepper in all the food.

Cold sunday lunch over priced, ignored, took 20 mins to get served at the bar. Poor experience

We visited to celebrate my Mum's Birthday on the 8th, and because of the recommendation for the roast Sunday dinner.. WOW absolutely AWESOME!!! The food was exceptional, the portions were more than generous, the hospitality was amazing (the daughter of the owner I think waited for our table... extremely friendly and personable) and the gravy is REAL gravy (made properly with meat juices etc!!!😋) I have been recommending The Rose & Crown to everyone I see... I can't wait to go back! Until then I'll daydream about their roast dinner's 😋

Walk in table was available food was good and as requested.

Just had a wedding reception at the rose and crown and cannot fault the staff or venue.we had the entire upper two rooms with a bar and dancefloor and a balcony.plenty of room for the 80+ guests that attended.very large buffet that went down well. Thanks to all at the venue for making a special day extra special.

Lovely spot for a bite to eat and drink or two

I recently visited The Rose and Crown in Beverley with my fiancé on a Wednesday evening, drawn by the glowing recommendations about their food. We were not disappointed. We both ordered the chicken, bacon, and black pudding ballotine from the specials board, which came with crushed new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, and a whole grain mustard and white wine sauce. The dish was exceptional—easily some of the best food in town. The flavours were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was superb. Without a doubt, we would highly recommend The Rose and Crown for a remarkable dining experience.

Popped in after dog walk and what a great little dog friendly pub. Really good food and service at a great price.

Beautiful pub, really big outside area with plenty of undercover seating. Called up with a party of seven right during Sunday lunch and they were more than happy to seat us. Ordered drinks at the bar, food at the table, etc. massive portions, fish was incredibly fresh and crispy, chips were delicious. Everything was well seasoned and piping hot. Can be a little loud when sitting outside because you’re right next to the street, but it’s walled in, so it’s very private. Would recommend.

The first time I've been in, in long time. Great appearance from the start lovely beer garden at the front, inside was very homely and beer garden at the back aswell. All nice and clean, great service and food tasted delicious. Dog friendly, too, which is nice to see.

From the outside the pub is beautiful so we thought we'd have lunch here. We weren't disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed sharing a meat feast platter. The young lady serving behind the bar was absolutely lovely. We'll definitely eat here again if ever we return to Beverley

Outstanding Sunday lunch, every part of it was perfect, great service and atmosphere, make sure you ask for the homemade horseradish if having beef.

Dog friendly. Provided a great gluten free meal without fuss. Food and drink were excellent. Lovely historic building.

First visit to this place, lovely chap behind the bar showed us to our table and provided us with excellent customer service throughout our meal. He's definitely an asset to the Rose and Crown. Food was piping hot and so delicious, belly pork, fish and chips, and satay chicken skewer we all enjoyed. Will definitely be returning ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Had a small family get together, a very good place to eat. Good atmosphere with friendly attentive waiting staff. Food was really nice with no pressure on you at the table to finish. Good food and good value.

Absolutely beautiful pub. Lovely attentive staff... Although we didn't quite get everything we ordered and there were a few mishaps with it being brought to our table. The atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and great staff means we will definitely return, and 100% recommend a visit 😀

Went for the first time with a party of 6. Lovely friendly staff however, it took more than 45 minutes for 6 meals to be brought to the table, which was made more annoying that a party of 4 who came in after us, had ordered, had their food delivered and had eaten there’s before ours even arrived. It would have been nice for the staff to say there would be a delay at the point of ordering , or at some point during the 45 minute wait. The Pub wasn’t that busy either which would have made sense why it took so long. The Pie ( Steak and ale) was tasty, but the pastry was not good tbh and the gravy was like gloop! The Fish and chips and Lasagana were reported to be good by the other diners in my party. It’s a nice venue overall, but some housekeeping is required in the dining room in regard to the very dusty light fitting and the numerous unpleasant cobwebs on the ceiling.

Went for a wedding and was really good! Prices were reasonable and the service was excellent!

Went for lunch. Had the pie, I had the chips and my wife the new potatoes. Both absolutely spot on. Nice pint of great newsome Koru aswell. Very helpful and friendly staff. Couldn't fault anything.

Good selection of meals on the menu and likewise for the beers.

First time we have been the pub is friendly with a nice atmosphere but I'm afraid the food was a let down it was bland and tasteless the was roast potatoes were burnt and the stuffing was so burnt it was solid. Afraid we won't be going back.

We arrived at 7.15 and informed the staff that we had booked a table for 7.30 in the restaurant. At 7.35 we were seated in the bar, which we accepted in good grace. At around 8pm a pleasant young lady who seemed to be the only one taking orders took our order and starters arrived about 25 minutes later. By which time we'd ordered 2 bottles of wine at 24 pounds each.. probably worth about a fiver at best. We were still waiting for mains at 9.10 by which time we'd lost our appetite and decided we weren't going to wait any longer. We paid for what we'd had and left. All in all a very bad experience.. the little food we had was average, the mains hadn't arrived after 1 and a half hours and the guy who dealt with what we felt was a very justified complaint was ignorant and defensive. If you want a nice meal in nice surroundings at value for money, avoid this 'pub'. What an absolute shambles. Totally shambolic and well overpriced. A

Table booked for Christmas Eve afternoon. Lovely festive feel upon arrival. The decor was cosy esp with the lighting snd fire's Table at the back..Staff were great, friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic. We opted for the haddock & scampi..pudding I chose Terry's Choc Orange Cheesecake and a cappuccino. The Cheesecake was delicious, the coffee smelt and tasted great. This was recommended to us, a great place

Had a very good Christmas lunch here

Went for Christmas dinner in a group of ten. We really enjoyed every minute. The service was attentive but not overdone, the food was really very good, plentiful and we all had different choices from the menu, no-one complained. Can highly recommend, and we will definitely be back next year. Thank you.

Went with friends following a recommendation. It was full, lively, and beautifully presented. Menu wasn't what I expected. It had options but was surprisingly dominated by normal pub food: burgers and ribs. That said, the starters were interesting and well prepared and presented, and a friend had the sea bass which looked outstanding. My black pudding and goats cheese was lovely, but the ribs and grilled chicken was just a poor choice.

Attended a lively and busy leaving event in the upper room. Excellent food served in the function room. The only downside was no real ale able to be served upstairs and the room was rather noisy as there was no sound absorbing surfaces. Subsequently had a group (9 of us) meal. Everyone had the pie of the day, which was delicious and served with superb chips and nice fresh vegetables.

We went for a family lunch it was lovely. We will go again.

Overall what a wonderful experience. The Iberico Ham Croquetas with choricero pepper puree were delicious. I also had the French/Swiss cheese selection with the Saint Emilion wine. Excellent. The server went out of her way to make sure what I was ordering was nut free. (I mentioned to her that I had a tree nut allergy) Brilliant evening, I will definitely be back.

Had a table booked for 6pm on a Saturday night arrived on time and was offered drinks and made our way straight to our table, the choices of food was very good and the food was delivered to us very promptly and was absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding and all the staff were very attentive and caring. We definitely will be going back again in the near future. Many thanks again for a lovely evening.

We had Sunday lunch in the Rose and Crown, and can honestly say it's the best I have ever had, everything was cooked perfectly and all piping hot. We will be back soon.
