Definitely book ahead, as the whole restaurant was packed when we arrived. We had booked though, so our table was reserved. The food was beautifully cooked, well presented and plentiful. One disappointment was that the Scapa Skillen sauce, served with the haggis and black pudding balls, was served with mushrooms. I'm allergic to mushrooms, so wouldn't have chosen that option if I'd known (not mentioned on the menu). Other than that, we had a great meal. One of the best things is that vegan options are available, including ice cream, at no extra cost which is a refreshing change from most other places.

Best take away pizza in Orkney by far, Phoned through the order and despite a dodgy level of phone signal, the pithezza was waiting. Far better than any specialist pizza places, great stuffed crust and authentic base. Great value too, the 11 inch satisfied me in the morning as well as before bed.

I give a lot of five star reviews and then I encounter a business like Robertson's where the food and especially the service go so far beyond the norm that five stars just isn't enough. The food was great, tasty, plentiful, locally sourced and well priced. however, what really made it was the service. Fiona was so friendly and helpful with things to do on Orkney. We came away with loads of info. then on paying Kaitlyn was great sourcing coin for us (don't ask!) We're only here for the week but I can see us eating here several times.

An old pub/cafe in this quaint Orkney village, we stopped in for a warm drink on a wet Sunday afternoon. The pub interior was quaint and characterful - the service far less so. We watched with bewilderment (perched on the bar stools we'd been directed to) as couples and families came in to be told by the young staff that there was no space. Actually, all it needed was for tables to be separated a little and they could have accommodated at least 3 more groups. (One group were clearly so intent on eating they sat outside in their coats under a large umbrella). Good service costs nothing and the owner that afternoon lost quite a bit of custom because his bar staff didn't have the gumption to be a little more accomodating.

Bright, busy, buzzy place with a range of seating, but more importantly, a range of draft beers! Including Swannay Brewery 'Muckle' - a really nice one. Heard good things about this wee place. Sadly it did not live up to expectations. First thing I noticed was the squadron of flies buzzing about overhead. The staff were dour. The chocolate brownies tasted like they were from a ready mix packet (add water and stir), cream from a rattle can. The coffee was vile. Milk was scorched and the coffee bitter. Either the machine was badly in need of a clean and flush or they were using the wrong grind for the water pressure or indeed both. I have had better from a vending machine. It is a quaint place with nice old original fittings but everything else lets it down. There are so many good places to get coffee and cake in Orkney best to avoid the disappointment and waste of money trying this one.

I have previously written a glowing review for Robertson’s, which was well deserved. Unfortunately, we ( me and my husband) have changed our opinion – not of the food, or the place itself, but of the general atmosphere. The last time we were there ( and it will be the last time), what we had hoped would be a peaceful lunch after a walk, was ruined by the rackety music. It was mostly insistent techno -‘dance’ music, and it was far too loud.

After visiting the Tomb of the Eagles and finding the nearby Skerries restaurant still not open for the season, we were recommended Robertsons by the staff at the tomb. What a quirky place, part restaurant, part bar, and part coffee hoose as they describe themselves. We sat in the adjoining conservatory which doesn't have direct access to the bar.You have to go out of the conservatory and in through the front door of the 'hoose'. The waitresses have to do the the same journey in reverse but still come in smiling, though they do appreciate you opening the door for them! We both had a very good helping of scampi and chips at the very reasonable price of £8.95 each. If we do get back this way again it would be our first port of call. On the receipt for the the food it states ' Robertsons General Store, Orkney'. We missed that bit!

Since we did not have a breakfast deal at our hotel in Kirkwall, our company of 4 decided to have breakfast T Robertsons. Arrived at 10am and ordered our various breakfasts, coffee etc. Got food quickly enough to enable us to eat without rushing and then on to ferry terminal to book in for our journey back to Gill's Bay and then onward to Aberdeen. A must visit cafe which also has Swannay Scapa Special on handpump.

Called in for lunch for 4 - got the last table available, so suggest booking as it is very popular with the locals and visitors alike. Enjoyed a festive menu with generous portions and pleasant table service.

Just back from staying 3 nights in the wonderful very dog friendly Lynnfield Hotel in Kirkwall. We have stayed in several other hotels in Kirkwall but none of them came up to the standard of the Lynnfield Hotel. Malcolm and his staff couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than they did. Our room, the Melsetter Suite was just wonderful. A fantastic mira shower and a space age jacuzzi bath etc etc! The food was simply delicious. We had intended eating elsewhere on one of the nights but after dinner in the Lynnfield Hotel the first night we continued to eat in house for the duration of our stay. For dog owners, look no further. All the staff are very dog friendly. Rusty our Welsh terrier can’t wait to go back! Very highly recommended.

This small community is to drive through, and not a destination. Because of the hour, we elected to stop here for dinner. The small restaurant was cozy, the service friendly and helpful and the food, surprisingly very good, beyond our expectations. The scallops were outstanding and the steaks were nothing less than perfect. A selection of food items for kids simplified our stop, and the selection of beers and ales made it even more interesting.

Sailed here, having started in Bodo, Norway. Enjoyed Westray and the Pierowall Bar/Restaurant. All 3 of us were happy with our food in the restaurant and drinks from the bar. Realised there was what seemed like a 'locals' bar when I walked to the toilets.

Not good.Waiter very poor. Dumped the food down with a grunt. 3 prawns for £11. Really ? Won’t be back.Great quality but unbelievably overpriced for what you get. If you’re a tourist and get taken in by all this overpriced nonsense then go and visit ……..if you’re a bit more savvy……AVOID!!!!

I spent 2 nights at the Sands while on the island for work. The staff were super friendly, helpful with any thing I needed and the food was amazing (I’m just finishing off a stair pie that is just the hearty food I need after a long day of photography) Would recommend and will definitely come again if I’m lucky enough to return to this beautiful location.
