Red Lion in Rotherham

Located close to the M1 so easy access to Sheffield and Nottingham. Rooms are a good size with very nice decor and very well equipped with plenty of power outlets, something a lot of hotels get wrong and excellent choice of tea and coffee in the room. Another nice touch is the little flask you can get filled with fresh milk! The bathroom is a good size too and again a nice design. Good free WiFi and plenty of parking. We only ate breakfast during our 2 night stay, which was good quality and the waitress was excellent. We did have a slight issue on our last morning however when rather than seat our party of 5 on the table we had used the previous morning we were split onto two tables as they had put a couple with a child in a highchair there, which was bizarre! However, overall very pleased with this hotel and would highly recommend it.

Have regularly eaten here over the last few years. Sad to say, the menu is not as good as it once was, and on the last occasion service was slow. When our meal eventually arrived 50 minutes after ordering, it was not what we had ordered, so we had another wait whilst they produced our actual order.

Extremely poor service, first time visiting this establishment and the women behind the bar clearly didn’t want to serve us, huffing and puffing because we ordered drinks then ordered food like it was an inconvenience to her. Bad attitude and very unwelcoming, she was clearly some form of supervisor. I shall not be returning.

Good size room. Bathroom was excellent and had bath and shower. Comfortable beds, spare pillows. Food was fab, breakfast and dinner. Good location just off M1/M18. Friendly service. Stayed a number of times now and each time been happy with stay.

Lovely place, great welcome, well organised and attentive staff. The quality of the meals we had on this occasion were not as good as on previous visits, but we will still give it another go based on past experiences here.

Stunning clean modern room with everything needed for a lovely quiet getaway along with great food also with it's own bar. Staff were amazing too always there and helpful when needed, would visit again and definitely highly recommend.

Booked a table through the AI assistant, no problem. Meal was ok for the price paid. However, a couple of weeks later I received a car parking fine for using the Red Lions car park (Todwick). When enquiring re this charge just put through to AI assistant or no one answers the call. Oh dear!

First time going here this Sunday. Had to say we had a great meal. Staff were really friendly and we didn't have to wait long at all for the food to arrive. Which was delicious and the dessert was melt in the mouth. Would easily look to return, would recommend it.

I've stayed at this pub/hotel twice now because it's location is ideal for visits to Rother Valley Country Park. Rooms are comfortable, clean and relatively large but can be a little noisy at times because of the large car park. It was noisy because the place was popular!! A kettle, tea and coffee are supplied in the room. On our first visit, we ran out of coffee (two cups) and were asked to purchase replacements if we wanted more. The restaurant, on each visit, has been busy so booking a table is recommended. Food in there, in my opinion, is quite average but over priced.

Went here for first time Sunday 23rd Feb lovely place nice inside nice atmosphere our server Laura was really friendly made you feel very welcome and she sorted out a small issue we had quickly and professionally the Sunday lunch was delicious and the the dessert 😋😋🥰 will definitely go again .

Visited Red Lion Todwick recently, and while the food was enjoyable, the customer service from the bar staff was disappointing. They were rude, unhelpful, and showed a complete lack of care towards customers. It really took away from the experience. A shame, as the kitchen clearly does a good job, but the service at the bar needs serious improvement.

Arrived for breakfast after a long journey to meet my father. Was met by an extremely rude woman, who not only met us with some discern she then refused to to serve breakfast despite an empty pub. Yes, they had a few hotel guest in but I counted 6, this hotel/pub has many rooms, and at 10.am ! Many had left. After pointing this out she left to say it would 45 wait! As they were not doing walk ins! Cone on guys!! It's a buisness, we would have spent easily £40 between us.My father is 86 with cancer, so rude! Do not waste time or money in this pub. Owners....review opening times...as it clearly says, open at 8am.

Visited the pub/restaurant for a quick dinner. Excellent sirloin steak, and lovely dessert. Service was fast and polite. Really excellent mushroom and sauce (an extra) for the steak. Food portions are great and to be quite honest, compered to some chains, the prices are more than fair. Slightly hidden away and only discovered because of needing to use up some clubcard vouchers, however, I will be back as a result of such a great experience. Thank you :)

Excellent location and venue, staff welcoming as always

We've been a few times before but havent had food before as its often quite expensive, this time there was a 2 mains for £20 offer running which seemed reasonable. Unfortunately the food took a longer time to arrive than expected considering how quiet the place seemed. The duo of chicken was underwhelming and we found a hair in the bbq sauce. The steak and ale pie was really nice though, but could have done with a bit more gravy.

As always the quality and understanding given by the staff , especially the reception and back of house staff , is second to none..and the entire experience and convenience of being close to sheffield city centre and the M1 makes this place number 1 in the sheffield / chesterfield and dinnington area.

Not much of an atmosphere and food was average at best. All food was cold. Steak so cold the butter did not melt sent back when came back everything else still stone cold clearly did not prepare a fresh meal. ..

Lovely pub, our meal was very delicious and staff was very friendly. Pub is dog friendly, so our pooch could enjoy it with us.

We had our Christmas dinner at The Red Lion for the 2nd year running and it couldn’t have been any better. Extremely friendly, really well organised. Timings were perfect. The food was excellent, staff couldn’t help enough. It was a fantastic experience.

We have met with family members several times over the last two years as it is equal distance between our home in County Durham and our sons in Birmingham. We have always had a lovely meal served by first class staff. We were there on Saturday 21st December for our Christmas get together and unfortunately we were totally disappointed. Three of us chose the hand battered cod and it was awful, I don't think it was either cod or hand battered it was an awful grey colour and quite tasteless, frozen I think. We should have complained at the time but we had our grandchildren with us and didn't want to make a fuss. On reflection I decided to let you know as this was not the standard we have come to enjoy at the Red Lion. On the upside the deserts were as delicious as ever.

Booked for my brother in laws birthday. Starters served very quickly so asked for a gap before mains. Main meals turned up instantly and we were told this was because they had a party of 45 in. Asked to speak to manager who was so.nice and gave us a bottle of wine no charge. So pleased with how nice and polite the .manager was.

I went to the Red Lion for a christmas meal with friends and I can honestly say, it's the worse meal I've had in a while. I decided to have the turkey dinner, my sprouts were rock hard, my carrots were burnt, the stuffing ball was bitter tasting and it was cold. I don't live far from the Red Lion but I definitely won't be eating there again.

We booked into the pub for 3 nights and had breakfast which was amazing. We also had the pleasure of food being brought to our room the 1st night and eat in the restaurant on our 2nd night

NOT DOG FRIENDLY- WHEN YOU SAY YOU ARE!!! The pub is a lovely pub that advertised 'Dog Friendly' so we booked a table to eat. WRONG DECISION!!! We have the tiniest Yorkshire/Terrier and I had taken a CLEAN blanket to put on bench for him to lay next to me. The waitress came straight across and very abruptly told us he could not lay on the seat. I said I understand which is why I've brought a clean blanket. She said dogs have to be on floor. I said I'd hold him in my arms, apparently STILL NOT ALLOWED!!! We take our Yorkshire terrier to si many pubs, cafes etc and NEVER encountered this in any other establishment that advertises as DOG FRIENDLY!! One really lovely waitress apologised profusely as she had dogs herself! Don't tell me I cannot hold my tiny dog in my arms!!

We went for Sunday lunch the room was pleasant and the girls were pleasant .But Sunday Lunch was not good everything to me was frozen parsnips not roasted, potatoes frozen pale not roasted enough carrots veg chopped up small like a casserole pack you would buy.Never had that ever where ever I have been for the same meal.Cauliflower cheese cold in separate dish had to be returned as well as my meal cold,Food out with in minutes of ordering not a good sign to me warmed up and not enough...Extremely dissatisfied they knock £10 off the bill,makes know difference to us.Will not be going back ever...

Haven't had a meal here before but met with friends for Sunday lunch. We had trio of meats and our friends had the veggie options which we all thoroughly enjoyed .The food was hot ,well cooked and generous portions. It's a little more expensive than your average bear but the service was excellent therefore worth the price as I believe it's worth paying extra for good service. The staff were friendly and attentive. Very dog friendly. They also had quite a good few non alcoholic options which I find is lacking and narrow minded from other places I have been. The parking I found a bit strange to start with as you have to register your vehicle when you enter the pub although I suppose being so close to the m1 I think lots of people take it upon themselves to leave their cars for the day and clog up the car park leaving customers with nowhere to park so I can understand why they do this . It is well signposted and the process is easy . Overall a great experience and we will return.

Just off the A57 perfect for on the way home from a long day out looking at a uni, portions were not too big, staff very helpful, lovely place, didn't know it was a hotel so don't know about that side of it but what we did see was spotless and well decorated

Not the best food, it’s really gone down hill. Fish and chips are clearly cooked straight from the freezer. Waiter was pretty rude, beer was off so we complained about it and he basically told us to suck it up!

Great hotel and pub! The best hotel we have stayed in for a long time and we travel a lot, hotel is spotlessly clean, lovely decor and fittings, staff are so friendly and helpful We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again We had an evening meal in the pub restaurant and were looked after so well, food was delicious!

Had a great evening meal and came back for breakfast too. Brilliant venue for a "Friday is go", food is excellent. Thankyou to Shell and Lucy who did everything they could to make the evening special for us. It now our go to place for a great good value meal out. The food and rooms are great, but if you need the internet in any form forget it. Absolutely atrocious, it's like being on dial up from the 90s. Seriously bad, couldn't get maps to work. The WiFi must have been installed by a child. There isn't any WiFi to speak of. If you've meetings planned go somewhere else.

A warm and friendly welcome from June to the Red Lion. Very attractive rooms, and beautiful artwork in every area. The food was cooked well, and served by a delightful and helpful team. Close to the motorway, this was a perfect stop for us on our way north.

Not the most visually pleasing place if you sit outside as it's 2 secs from a roundabout. Car park can be hectic and you have to use a tablet at the bar to register your car. Prices of all drinks and food in my opinion is just above average. Nice looking family pub though to bring friends and family for a meal though and the staff and service is good.

A few years ago we’d gone off this place, but recently the food and more importantly, the service has been fantastic. Calm, relaxed, quick service and great, tasty food. Definitely become one of the better pubs in South Yorkshire!

We dined here for my mum's birthday and we won't be returning in a hurry! Firstly, the young girl asking us to enter our registration number into the console was very abrupt when asked why we had to do this when the carpark was empty! The meals did not excite any of us! The chips were reconstituted potatoes.. the grilled vegetables had no thought given to them, no oil, no spices.. the fish was not as good as others we've eaten in the area, low grade and frozen! On the plus side, lovely building and interior decor...with the added touches of dustwebs!

Lovely pub, good food however unfortunately our experience was let down by the passive aggressive waitress (blonde hair and glasses) with a terrible attitude towards us as customers and no decency to apologise after making us clearly uncomfortable during our meal. To begin with they had made a mistake with our order which we were fine with we just wanted to receive the missing item but the lady was not apologetic or helpful at all she just argued her point which in my opinion is not how situations like this should be dealt with. We also asked for some extra sauce to have with our dinner and were made to feel like an inconvenience as she had to go back to the kitchen and get it she followed our request with the comments ‘anything else? mayo? vinegar?’ in a passive aggressive manner making all of us uncomfortable as if we were asking for to much. Her customer service was terrible throughout the whole time we visited so i won’t be returning because of this.

Nice pub with good food and drink plus accommodation

A nice hotel restaurant. Good cuisine, clean and large rooms and a very loving welcome at the reception and friendly service. Despite the reason for the stay was unfortunately that our car was broken we enjoyed the time here and look forward to come back for a planned stop on our next vacation!

Our second stay at this fabulous hotel .The foods amazing and all the staff are all second to none . The rooms are immaculate as is the whole pub and restaurant. Hats off to the cleaners your hard work has been noticed. We love this place so much we've booked another stay .

Food was very nice. Staff are friendly. We were stood waiting for a long time waiting for someone to seat us. The place was empty. Someone on the bar eventually gave them a kick in the back and 2 people suddenly appeared.

We decided to call in on our way back from a weekend away. As we walked in, we were greeted by smiling staff, who seated us and got our drinks. Very friendly, warm atmosphere. Beautiful decor and the toilets were clean, and nicely decorated. The food was excellent, we chose starters and mains. I had my main from the specials menu and it was delicious. Will definitely visit again.

A Sunday lunch at a Hotel / Pub restaurant. Made booking for table day before, straight forward. Staff made you feel welcome, shown to the table, order place for food. Food was delivered in 10 minutes or sooner, portions given were bigger than expected, massive Yorkshire pudding, pig in blanket also massive. (See pictures) Ordered dessert, again not disappointed. Overall, drinks, lunch, and dessert are all excellent. If passing or wondering where to visit for a Sunday lunch, I would highly recommend 👌

been passing this pub many many time, it was my first time visit. the interior decoration was good. toilets were very clean. the dishes ordered were delicious. the beef was tender in signature burger.but the beef was tough in mixed grill and no lamb chop. the belly pork was tender and tasty. the ice cream sundae and sticky toffee pudding were good.

Our second lunchtime visit to this pub. very nice interior. Last time they had a great fireplace roaring. This time there was no fire and it was very cold inside. Staff were polite and efficient, but weren't "attentive" in any way, with me having to get out of my seat to get the food order taken. Main course food was excellent. Though, the lunchtime scampi was bad quality, arranged on a plate like a child's chicken nuggets. enjoyable, will be back - just wasn't as comfortable as our previous visit.
