What a hidden gem. Hidden behind a somewhat shabby facade is a lovely bright clean pub manned by wonderfully friendly and attentive staff, with lovely food. This was one of the best roasts we've had for a long time. The pork belly melts in your mouth and the selection of veg was a welcome change from boiled carrots and broccoli. They had a wide range of local beers and one of the widest range of non-alcoholic beers, ciders and spirits I've seen. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance, give this pub a try.

I originally booked my daughter a baby shower for April but unfortunately baby was born 8 weeks early so I had to postpone two days before the event. Becky & Jon were absolutely fantastic about it and we ended up holding a “meet” the baby shower instead in June. The whole event from start to finish was lovely. We were able to set up the night before, Becky even gave us a hand! The food was delicious and they offered us a really good range of options when booking, all of our guests commented how good it was. The function room is perfect for a gathering of about 50 people with its own entrance from the car park. If you’re looking for a venue for an occasion this establishment is well worth considering.

I can highly recommend the Oak at Kingshill if you want a really delicious meal, in lovely surroundings, served by really competent waiting staff who are very attentive. Twice I’ve eaten here and both times the food has been amazing. The first time was fish and last time was on steak night! We shared a delicious 20oz T Bone. The next time you’re wondering where to go for food, don’t hesitate to go to the Oak!

As a couple we have just enjoyed another special dining event atThe OakatKingshill. Consistently good cooking is enhanced by regular special events. This evening’s focus was a Caribbean evening. The menu included fried salt fish, curried crab, prawn gumbo, pork ribs curry goat, jerk chicken rice and peas and corn on the cob with optional extra sides and a choice from two desserts. All at a very fair price. Many thanks to Jonathan, Becky and team.

We booked dinner for 1830h, going to a concert. Arrived at 1810h, just as well. We were seated straight away, the restaurant was almost empty, just a chap next to us awaiting food. Four staff buzzing about... friendly... but no one really bothered about serving us. After being given the wrong menu, we were finally able to order by 1840h. No starter, just a main. And then we waited and waited. In a way, this is good; the menu is small and all cooked fresh. But our dinner arrived at 1910h, an hour after we walked in. That's a long time, in a near empty restaurant. While we waited, we took in the decor. Battleship grey. Downlighters. A total ambience bypass reminiscent of a dentists' waiting room. At the end of the bar was an overflowing bin and two mops, in plain sight. But what about the food. Venison haunch, potato au gratin, cabbage with bacon, mashed swede. Was it worth the wait. Yes. I don't think I have ever eaten a dish better cooked. The venison - and plenty of it - perfectly timed, seared on the outside, pink within. The potato nicely moist, well flavoured. The cabbage just nutty. The swede, soft. And all attractively plated and piping hot. But then to go with this five-star meal we get salt and pepper in sachets, not even a grinder. Bizarre. I'm sure that could have been forgotten if we'd had time for a pudding. But we had to leave by 1930h, an hour twenty after we arrived. No pudding. I always have a pudding! And I didn't leave a tip. I can't remember the last time I left no tip. So, a remarkable mixture of superb cooking, dull decor and poor service. If you enjoy good food and aren't in a hurry and not bothered about the surroundings, give it try. If you are in a hurry there are three takeaways 100 yds away.

Creo que Jon es el jefe de cocina y nos impresionó mucho, nos encantó especialmente el delicioso chocolate y el caramelo con helado de pimienta rosa, ¡una combinación inusual pero súper deliciosa! Upon entry you could tell it was a Friday evening for the locals . Once we were being served you could tell the bar staff was more interested in what the locals were saying as we had to repeat what our drinks order was a couple off times . They weren’t loud just a bit merry . Once we had been seated and gone back to order food we settled down to enjoy our evening . We ordered starter main and a kids food . All food came at once . So we had starter and main meal together . I said to the waitress and all she could say was that’s what we were given .. Looking at the kids meal we notice she was given a adults starter not a kids meal which they didn’t mined as she enjoyed or .. my complaint is it should matter what day off the week it is or if locals are in or not .

It pains me to write up this review after being a loyal customer and supporter of the venue since its opening and forming friendships along the way. As the food prices are slightly above the average for the area, you would expect the quality to match which it doesn’t quite often. The breakfasts are generally good but it is hit and miss. The baguette lunches fall below expectations with the fillings tasting like Sunday leftovers, I ordered a chicken one which had gamey, chewy skin on and not nice tasting. The roast dinners were absolutely lovely some time ago but now the lamb cuts are tough with quite a bit of fat on, I cannot comment on the beef alternative. At the beginning you used to get your own vegetables and cheesy cauliflower with the roast, now you share – Therefore be sure to order your roasts separately otherwise you’ll be sharing vegetables in appose to having your own. Steak nights are rubbish in terms of deal/value: the venue discounts a few pounds and removes the sides, resulting in you ordering back those sides and spending just as much as any other night, maybe even more. Approximately two weeks I ago I sustained a fall outside the premises, as the owner witnessed the incident and expressed no concern, I returned home and rang Highways. Despite my descriptions they did not know who was responsible for the land and advised me they were going to look into it. Approximately a week later I noticed a car parked over the pothole, indicating there was a matter. I walked into the venue yesterday to receive allegations from the “hot-headed” owner that I was pulled into the pothole by a dog I was walking (the dog was on the left side of me and the pothole was to the right), that I had also been drinking and lastly my complaint was a deliberate attack. I reminded the owner that once I got up to my feet I said “that needs sorting” pointing to the pothole which he did not respond to and continued his conversation with someone else.Additionally I mentioned that I had left the premises that day to collect my daughter from school and so extremely doubt at my age I would be leaving any premises intoxicated for such an occasion, the owner’s reply was “I do not care about that.” Needless to say what I do with my life outside the venue is not his business however it does question his capability to hold an alcohol license, with such attitude. If you are visiting watch your step and perhaps ask to pay for your food at the end, to enable more recognition and compensation if appropriate.

Googled "best steakhouse in Gloucestershire" and this place came up second on the list. The first was already fully booked so decided to try it out. Unfortunately, if it's true, that's a pretty sorry recommendation for Gloucesterhire steakhouses. The service was fine, the starters were ok, the steak itself was a little chewy even for rump, but the biggest faux pas was that they seem to have a chef who does not know how to cook it. For an establishment marketing itself as a steakhouse that's a pretty basic requirement. Asked for medium rare, it came out blue. Sent it back, stressing again I wanted MR, and it came back still very rare I.e. raw across 3/4 of its thickness and pink at the edges. They did knock it off the bill and were very apologetic, but I would much rather have paid for it and enjoyed my meal !

Staff were friendly. Good value lunchtime specials board, 2 courses for £10, but only 3 choices each for starter and main - choices were average, mostly deep fried pub grub. Main menu - high prices for average food, I had 2 courses and it came to a whopping £22.50! Starter of griddled vegetables was underwhelming - only a few pieces of veg, on a limp half a bread roll and an undercooked poached egg for £5.50. Steak was very chewy, onion rings were not nice, chips were bog standard. Despite being lunchtime, some people were quite rowdy and so it wasn't very relaxing. Disappointing.

Family had a great lunch here with huge, fresh, homemade portions. So many options to choose from with ample fillings for potatoes or sandwiches. Service was attentive and atmosphere was relaxing. There were clear set areas for drinkers with their pets too, nowhere near food tables.

What an accommodating place to dine! They dealt with our multiple allergies perfectly and even made a completely custom, off-menu salad for me which was delicious. Prices are very reasonable and all of the food was high quality and delicious. We will be regulars now!

Had the chance to stop by for breakfast and see some of all the hard work which has been taking place here. Cheery and friendly greeting in nicely refurbished surroundings. Tempting Gin bar!, spotless & pleasant interior. Breakfast was great, very good quality sausages, perfectly cooked & excellent value - just what this area needs - a friendly local serving great food at sensible prices. Looking forward to an evening meal here. Decent food, nice staff, great value. Fascinating wood carving underway at rear - kids will love it .Good luck & thanks for having faith in this community.

Very impressed with the newly opened Restaurant. My roast beef was perfection, all the food was so tasty. The rest of my family thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. The service was prompt and friendly. Really really helpful staff and Dogs are welcome in the lounge area which is a bonus. I would highly recommend.

We've just been for breakfast at the newly refurbished ranchers steakhouse and were very impressed. Friendly and prompt service, great food and lovely fresh decor. Well definitely be back and looking forward to trying the Sunday roast and evening menu - not today though as the breakfast was very generous so we're still full!

We needed a meal after being delayed at the local hospital so decided to have lunch at this newly refurbished which was previously The King’s Hill.

Visited for lunch on Sunday 19.08.18. Never been for a meal here before since new ownership. Was very clean (as was tables and cutlery!) and staff were welcoming. There was a number of choices for Sunday Roast (Chicken, Pork and Beef (and a vegetarian option)). I had chicken and the rest of the family had beef. Served piping hot with lots of vegetables and extra gravy and was all really tasty and well cooked. Table service was great and nothing was too much trouble for our waitress. Went with our children and portions were generous for their meals too. Well priced at £8.95 for adults and £5 for children.

I have been trying to get a refund for the poor service and food that we received from your outlet at Lower Wick Dursley en route home to Torquay. We waited over half an hour for lukewarm food and flat drinks with no ice. I complained immediately and have been trying to get a refund ever since! None of the complaint numbers work so I have complained via your website and have been met with what I would call a gate keeper experience. Essentially, I have only been able to communicate with an employee called George who has at every opportunity made excuses and delays to all of my requests none of which have been answered! He is now ghosting me and has not replied to my last two exasperated emails. The service I have received from him is as poor as the food and service received in your restaurant. I have tried to be polite and patient but I have run out of both now! A company of your size and standing should be able to refund a customer without the expectation that the customer returns to the restaurant. I by the way live over 100 miles away from said restaurant! I have also then been told to provide a long list of details around the transaction including my account details so the money can be repaid. I have rightly or wrongly given these details in the belief Burger King will reimburse me but as yet nothing!!!! I'd be interested from a GDPR point of view what you are doing with my details?? I certainly know if this was my business I would be horrified! All this for £33.86p
