Poonthais in Stirling

Recommended by a local we go and all we can say is WOW WOW WOW. Amazingly fresh and cooked to order food to die for it's so good! Very friendly staff who were adept at dealing with allergies for my partner no sweat. Highly recommend and WILL visit again when in the area! Recommend if you like spice to have the Duck Curry -- mind blown

After spending a Sunday afternoon visiting sites in Stirling, we found ourselves looking for somewhere to eat dinner. Many places were closed; others were open but seemed pretty full. Finally we settled on Sida Thai, crossing our fingers that we didn't need a booking. Fortunately for us, there were a few unreserved tables in the back and we were seated there. Even though it was still mostly empty, service was a bit slow. However the wait was worth it. Food came out hot and tasty - a nice meal after a day of walking around Stirling.

I would highly recommend Sida Thai in Stirling. The food is exceptional. We were only in stirling for one night and just came across this restaurant. What a lucky find. I had the drunken noodles which were delicious. Prices are really good and the staff are all lovely. We felt really welcomed. I would definitely go back if I’m in stirling again.

The restaurant looks a bit shabby outside and isn't the most attractive of environments inside either. However, we were greeted warmly and service was good throughout. The menu is varied and caters for vegetarian. We both had a starter and a main course and the food was excellent; obviously freshly prepared and cooked, piping hot and very tasty. The restaurant is clearly popular and did a good trade in both eat-in and takeaway whilst we were there. With a bit of sprucing up and more attention to detail this could be a stand - out restaurant.

Booked here for dinner during our recent trip to Stirling. After reading the reviews we were so looking forward to trying the food here as we have a superb Thai restaurant in Inverness which we visit regularly. On arrival have to say I was seriously disappointed. It looks shabby and grubby inside, however, the reason we left prior to ordering any food was it was colder INSIDE the restaurant than outside!! Even the waitress had about 4 layers of clothes on! Why do restaurants expect people to sit having dinner with their coats on? There was one other table of 4 people - they were frozen and said soon as they’d had their mains they were leaving. We didn’t even get that far! Restaurants are charging premium prices for their food - so put the damn heating on for your customers!!

This was the only restaurant i would have recommend to to friend and family. The food was second to none. Unfortunatley the portions got smaller and smaller from the tom yum soup to the mains courses , rices and noodles. To the point that a sandwich and crisps were the norm when back home. Really a big shame as we still love this restaurant.

Food is excellent but restaurant needs attention. We ordered chicken satay and chicken spring rolls to start. Both yummy. For main we went for Moo Dang and a pineapple curry. Again, very tasty. Price-wise it was all very reasonable. The restaurant itself just needs some general maintenance. But overall, really good.

One of the best thai meals we have had. Flavoursome, fragrant and excellent service. We'll find a reason to go back to Stirling just to visit this restaurant again

What a wonderful, authentic Thai restaurant. The duck red curry and chicken green curry were fabulous, we also enjoyed the tofu and veggies. Honestly if we lived in Stirling we would go there each week.

Amazing restaurant, nice authentic Thai food. Lovely atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Truly lovely staff it’s not trying to be anything it’s not like most restaurants now a days, they look nice but most times the food is rubbish. Highly recommend

So pleased we went early as by 7 the place was almost full Lovely little restaurant decorated tastefully. Talk about taste the food was divine and we really enjoyed every mouthful, Friendly staff who were attentive but not overpowering. When we visit Stirling we definitely go again

Getting away with doing the absolute bare minimum. Absolutely no atmosphere food served with a piece of lettuce and a tomato circa 1999 and the rest was just average. Hasn't seen a paintbrush since 2012 and the bill was interesting- handwritten with no Vat receipt!!!!!!

I had a really good meal here. This restaurant isn't particularly fancy in any way but does serve great food. I liked the food a lot. The people running the restaurant were all friendly and polite, typically Thai. That's great. Value for money. Recommended.

Delicious Thai food, ordered Tom yum soup to start then a range of dishes to share- stir fried beef, pork mince salad and noodles. Tasty and fresh. Friendly relaxed service. Highly recommend.

The food and drink is really good here and definitely worth the price. The staff are friendly and attentive and I really can't fault anything even the portion size is good not too much and not too little. Really worth going to so five stars from me.

Ordered main course chicken satay with fried rice. Brought me starter satay with fried rice and a cold small amount of peanut sauce and awful salad. Didn’t eat Satay or cold peanut sauce. Didn’t eat rice as I had no sauce to put over rice. Absolute waste of money.

We had a fantastic lunch at Sida! Two vegetarians and one meat eater, and we all found great starters and main courses. For the vegetarians they made adaptations so we had generous courses with a variety of fresh vegetables. The service was fantastic. Highly recommended!

Superb lunch of classic Thai starters and mains (e.g. pad thai, green curry). I asked for a Thai salad (not on the lunch menu) and received what looked, initially, like a very bland salad accompanied by some minced beef. Those first impressions were very wrong, though. The dish was fragrant and delicious.

Almost chose a Chinese takeaway and then googled Thai and so glad we did. Picked up takeaway last night, consisting of veg spring rolls (so deliciously light & crispy), satay chicken (perfectly cooked skewers with the best ever sauce), beef panang (wow - amazing) & noodles which were extremely tasty too. Very good sized portions. Wish I was staying in Stirling for longer, I’d most definitely be booking a sit in meal here. Ps the staff were incredibly lovely - thank you very much.

Popped in for an evening meal on an overnighter in Stirling. Friendly, efficient service and delicious food. We had Gaeng Kua (Prawn) and Pad Kee Mao.

Great service, great food! We had satay, tempura prawns, and pork on toast for starters - delicious! For main we got duck curry and pork Pad Kra Pao which were amazing. Must visit if you find yourself in Stirling!

We stayed in Stirling for 4 nights and the food was so good in this restaurant that we went twice. We Highly recommend it.

Just popped in here whilst in Stirling for a day trip. Had the lunch 2 course menu for under £10. Food was delicious. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and from the other customers it clearly has lots of regulars. Definitely will be back when next in Stirling.

Recently had a take away from here. It was excellent. Fresh and good portion sizes. Very authentic taste. It was so good I ate in the restaurant a week later. Really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be returning.

first time we ordered from Sida Thai tonight and it was absolutely delicious!! since I moved from Edinburgh to Stirling I've been trying to find a good Thai restaurant/takeaway as I had a pretty regular one in Edinburgh. wish I had known about Sida earlier! for stater we had the Tom Yum soup (my favourite) and chicken satay. Both were perfect! so much flavour. We then shared a Beef Red Thai Curry with Sticky Rice. The Rice came well packaged to keep it sticky and the Curry was perfect consistency and so full of beautiful Thai flavours. I'd go as far as to say that was the bsayest Thai Red curry I've ever had.......and I've had a few! I said to my boyfriend it was just as good quality as sitting in a restaurant. I enjoyed it so much I actually called them up after to tell them how good it was. can't wait to visit when it's open and we'll definitely be ordering Takeaway again soon. Thank you!!

After a long Thai deprived lock down I am so glad to see my favorite local restaurant open back up again for business. Usually go for the lunch time meal with my colleague who is also a big fan. Ordered take away on Friday night for myself and my partner, we had the mixed starter and prawn satay which was excellent!! 6 large king prawns with peanut satay dip followed by chicken panang and stick rice which was equally as good as good as the starter also provided free prawn crackers which were tremendous!! even the dug had one!! :-

So happy to see this place has reopened. It used to be Poonthai but has a new name (same owners/management/staff).We ordered a takeaway and collected it. Food was delicious and as good as you get when sitting in the restaurant. large portions too. Still roasting hot by the time we got it home so thoroughly enjoyed it.

Almorzamos con un grupo de amigos y reservamos para el almuerzo. El restaurante no estaba caliente y cuando estábamos listos para pedir, rápidamente tomaron el pedido y consiguieron las bebidas. Sin embargo, la comida parecía tardar mucho en llegar y algo de ella no estaba muy caliente. Parecía que no había suficiente personal en la cocina y en las mesas para atender a la cantidad de clientes. La comida era normal y el servicio dejaba un poco deficiente.

¿Cómo hemos logrado vivir tan cerca pero nunca visitamos este lugar? ! Fuimos de improviso y tuvimos una comida encantadora que había sido cuidadosamente preparada y todo a un precio razonable. No fue un problema tener opciones veganas y sin gluten y el servicio fue de primera clase. Definitivamente volveremos! Gracias por una noche exuberante?

Excelente cena antes de la visita al cine. Pedimos la comida establecida por falta de tiempo, no nos decepcionó. Todo muy bien cocinado. El pescado fue de lo más destacado.No había estado trabajando durante mucho tiempo y estaba muy satisfecho de que se mantuvieran todos los estándares.Excelente bienvenida y servicio durante todo.

Food at this restaurant was beautiful, really fresh and full of flavour. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves Thai food or is wanting to try it for the first time. The prices a great to for the quality.

I totally agree with other reviews, this is by far the best Thai food we have ever had. We were in Stirling for a few days and just walked past Poonthais and thought we would try it. It is not a big fancy place but oh boy is the food good. If you are in Stirling and you like Thai food then Poonthais is THE place to go and the staff are so nice too. I just wish they would open a restaurant in Shetland.

Has to be one of the smallest restaurants I have been in,but big in friendliness and service.A big menu ,maybe too big,but spoilt for choice.The food ,just delicious,freshly cooked and full of flavor.Definitely worth another visit.

We have eaten here three times...I took my son here for lunch when he recently visited his old dad! It is a nice restaurant, the decor is fairly oriental and maybe a bit dates. HOWEVER...the menu is extensive and there is plenty to choose from, I have had something different each time and can't fault the food nor the portion size and the service is good. My son is quite a critique of food and doesn't hold back was very enthusiastic...thank goodness...and really enjoyed his lunch, stating that the fish soup was excellent.

We ordered a takeaway from here. Food was delicious but portion sizes for a main were very small - 4 prawns for one main and 4 small pieces of chicken for the other main - rather disappointing given the price!

Try to be optimistic, maybe they could not get ingredients due to long distance Scotland - England - Thailand. Less population, less tourists etc but they do their best from available resources? I know you cannot compete those in London but it is what is available in the area.

Just had our road trip to the best city in Scotland and uncovered this little gem. Excellent food, all four of us really enjoyed the food served up, I especially enjoyed the deep fried haddock with red curry sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly almost translucent. We will be back next year

Have to post a review of Poonthai following the below review as the author has previously reviewed the restaurant mentioning staff constantly changing. High turnover of staff isn’t a good sign but I’m confused.

Tom yum poor in quality,no herbes or spices,and in quantity. Buy bigger soup bowls maybe ? Again curry and stir fry devoid of any fresness and thest. When using frozen vegetables in your stir fry pour some of the resulting water away as it will dilute you sauce/ Juice. Always get the feeling that the chef is not really interested in serving any effort. Will try not to be back.

After two months on the road, and missing asian cuisine, I dropped in to the Talay Thai in Stirling for dinner. Being in a small city in the Highlands of Scotland, I wasn't sure what to expect...but I was pleasantly surprised; the food I ordered was excellent, if not spicy enough for my taste (but the waiter was happy to bring me some fresh chilli).

Very authentic, very flavorsome, all round fabulous meal! Catered well to vegetarians too. Felt like eating a meal within Thailand itself.

Lovely authentic Thai restaurant with great food & had no trouble getting a table without booking. Duck in Red Curry Sauce is absolutely fantastic. Excellent value as well, with mains all around £10 or less. Definitely would go back again for such a good Thai meal.

We really enjoyed the food here but the service so very slow. Felt like limited staff and trying to do everything. I think it had just reopened after being shut for a few days so maybe something wasn’t right.

I’ve always looked at visiting Poonthais and glad that my wife and I did. The food was excellent. I ordered a 2nd bowl of fish soup,it was that good. The mains were superb as was the desserts. Big YES from me.

I visit Poonthai’s regularly with friends and family, as it is right on our doorstep. It is a fantastic place to eat authentic Thai food, the staff are so welcoming and the food is always amazing.

Had a quick lunch here. 2 course meal (starter and main dish, £8.95) was just fine for me, although the portion of Pad Thai could have been a bit bigger. Popular among the locals and tourists alike. Friendly service.

We don’t know any Stirling restaurants, but we like Thai food - and what a brilliant choice this was. Family-run and with friendly service, the food was just delicious, with meat dishes beautifully cooked, and the vegetable dishes just perfect. We visit Stirling from time to time and will definitely be back on our next visit. Highly recommended.

Went on a Saturday night with our friends, we had the taster type menu, (can’t remember what they called it on the menu), 4 starters with dips and 4 different mains with sticky rice and noodles, every element of the meal was very tasty and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

My wife and I visited on a Saturday night. We hadn't booked but were accommodated easily. The restaurant is clean and bright and the service was friendly if a little slow. We both had a starter and a main with 1 portion of rice. To drink we had 2 bottles of Sinha beer each, our total bill came to just below £45. I have to say we were both underwhelmed by the quality of the food. It wasn't bad by any means, just very average and certainly lacked the flavours of Thailand we have experienced in other restaurants.

Having arrived in Stirling in Feb 14th we needed to find a nice quality restaurant to share a lovely meal. This certainly ticked those boxes. The greeting was very friendly and the service continued to be great throughout. A dish was recommended ‘off menu’ based on my preferences. It was cooked specially and cooked to perfection. I completely cleared the dish. It was beautiful! I thank them for the service and the food and would recommend without hesitation. Enjoy!

After looking at reviews on TA decided to try this place, it was excellent food & the staff were very friendly indeed. Speed of service was faultless as was the food. Very quiet for a week night but that just lead to me getting better service. Before I dined here I went to the pub next door a Brewdog pud wow Elvis Juice beer you’ve got to try it, in fact I’m going to buy some for the weekend to fill my Camelback bladder with for biking it’s so refreshing ! Poonthais you’ve got to visit here it is excellent food & you won’t be disappointed !

Our second visit confirmed our first impressions – a great little restaurant serving wonderful Thai food and offering a friendly service and convivial atmosphere. Definitely worth a try and we shall return next time we are in Stirling.

We decided to give this a try last Friday. Despite not having booked, they managed to give us a nice table . Good menu with plenty of choice and the started were good...we had a traditional mixed starter as we were too hungry to either. Main .ask was the lamb on noodles and my partner had the beef on noodles. My lamb was delicious and the noodles were perfect. My partner said her beef was dry and the noodles were sweet. I tried some and she was right...hee hello g was very small compared to my generous helping of lamb. Washed down with a nice bottle of white. Pleased we went and we were reasonably happy when we left. We tried it and it was ok...wouldnt rush back, but we will eventually return and have another try.

My wife and I had a lovely night out last Saturday with friends. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The food and service was just excellent. We were given enough time between courses, to enjoy an evening catching up with old friends, over a delicious meal and a few drinks.

Stopped for lunch with a friend. Medium quality, empty restaurant passable service. How I wish this place could do better. Always new staff coming and going ,talk of new management on arrival and funny reviews left from previous owners. Sad.

The food was amazing,I had green Thai curry and totally cleared my plate as did my husband.For desert I had the fried bananas and ice cream Ohw amazing.

It is a pity at lunch times this restaurant isn't busier. It has a good selection of food ranging from starters to mains and it has the option of a meal deal. I ordered a chicken, noodle and beansprout soup. It was on the main course but after asking for a starter portion, they had no problem in doing this and charged me just as other soups are for starters. The food in it was tasty and fresh. I also had spring rolls (not wanting a main course), which were clearly fresh and packed full and were accompanied by a dipping sauce. The portion sizes are very good for the prices, which are not expensive.

Had a lovely Thai meal here. I am a big fan of Thai food and very often try Thai restaurants in other towns and cities. The food was nice not the best but was nice. The staff were very welcoming however the restaurant was very quiet and at times I felt very awkward as I felt the need to whisper to my friend to not disturb others. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

Not sure whether this place has changed hands again or if there's a new chef. I'd been here a year or so ago and had been disappointed. Pleased to say that the food is on point again. Thai fish cakes, spring rolls, pad Thai & green thai curry all very very tasty. Washed down with a bottle of Singha. Was very reasonable at lunch time too. I'm pleased we don't need to hop on the train to Glasgow now to have a decent Thai. Will definitely go back. Would be even better if the slight damp smell in the restaurant could be sorted. Forgot about that when the lovely food came though.

For once, rather than relying entirely on TA, we worked on the principle that as it was busy it was probably worth a visit. Fortunately they still had a table free.
