Breaded haddock supper was superb

Once unwrapped the fish was obviously overdone. Batter was a very dark brown colour and looked disgusting. This must have been obvious to the people cooking and wrapping it. Obviously money matters more than customer satisfaction.

I've ate from here before and I've not had a problem, today I order 3 fish suppers, the fish and chips was so greasy I ended up chucking it in the bin, each bite of fish was soaked in oil not to mention twice I nearly choked on fish bones safe to say I won't be back highly disappointed.

Made the trip down to killie on recommendation, sadly this was no where near the standard expected. To me the chips seemed under cooked. The salt and vinegar was rationed and the fish was full of batter and a lot of Bone and pretty tasteless.

Very poor service, they are very specific about collection times but they mean nothing- I was told 6.10pm and she eventually brought it to the window at 6.25pm I get they are busy but be realistic Last time I phoned I was put on hold for 5minutes and when I eventually hung up and called back the staff member didn’t believe me. Plenty of other chippys in the area

First time trying and last time. Felt as though staff had a bit of an attitude towards us, like they had better things to do. Sat down to eat our fish suppers and found they were quite greasy with bones all through it. Complete let down for an “award winning” chip shop

Smallest sausage supper I have had in years. 2 small sausages and a small handful of chips. Have an absolute cheek to call this a supper. Tried this chip cos I was passing. Won’t be back.

Been a couple if times and the food is good quality. Well worth a visit but unfortunately tonight the fish was mushy and I couldn't eat it all because of that. The batter on the fish was great and the chips were good. A couple of bones were found too which is a shame. A good cook on the fish would have scored it higher though.

Visited for the first time today after seeing recommendations on social media. Staff lovely and good service. Fish supper and a single fish, greasy and all batter no fish, we both found bones in fish, chips not that great and asked for salt and vinegar but couldn't taste it. When you apply not enough salt and vinegar and one bit of fish is under the other then it's going to get none but still get all the grease from the one above. We'll no be back, Wee Hurrie is a million times better

Went this evening for breaded fish supper. Was surprised as to how quickly this was ready. It was barely cooked! Texture was awful and breaded coating was not nice. Chips were ok but no more than that. I had asked for plenty of salt and vinegar. If they put vinegar on it it must have been a new flavourless variety. I ended up throwing most of it away. Never to return

First time in shop friendly staff good food piont off for adding salt as I only asked for vinegar. Was a very busy nite good service the team done well. Good stuff Jo looking forward to the next time. Bonus I won some onion rings .

Got a fish supper from here about a year ago.probably the worst fish supper I've ever had.the fish you couldn't see or taste.due to batter.certainly won't be wasting my money on this plaice again.

Telephoned an order to collect, when I got back to the house and opened it up the King Rib was burned the chips were more like Crisps and the Grease was dripping of the King Rib, the Sausage’s Had very little Batter on them and again the chips were more like Crisps, absolutely disgusting, I collected my order at 7.30pm and they close at 8 O’clock maybe the staff just uses the left over chips ? I have previously been to the Plaice to be and the food was totally different, and if I may add the staff was more friendly on the previous occasion also

Very disappointed tonight scampi was dry and burnt in places the fish batter was also very dry lots of tiny bits of chips in scampi supper no salt and vinegar on either supper although i said i wanted it . pick up 6pm was there at 5-50pm and waited for them . not the usual high standard of food we get .

Popped in again for fish & chips & fritters. Food was DELICIOUS. Best fish and chips in Kilmarnock. Staff are nice & friendly. Covid measures in place. Only 2 in shop at one time with masks. Orders can be phoned in & picked up.

Been a few times as i am gluten free and they have gluten free fish on the menu, i would recommend it to people with similar intolerance, The Gluten free is off the menu unless you can make it before 5pm in other words we dont really care for your custom and everyone else is more important to us, how hard is it to have a small fryer for gluten free i wont be back.

Fabulous fish & chips all freshly cooked with covid measures in place. Only 2 customers in the shop at a time , orders taken outside & everybody in the queue wears a mask. Orders can be phoned in & collected as well.

Excellent service. Very well organised for social distancing etc in these challenging times and fish was superb.

Was in the shop a couple of years ago and noted in brackets (whiting) . I enquired if they had haddock which they had i believe in the freezer but the price was about £7 30p. I declined .About a month later went in for some chips and noted that the whiting in brackets had been rubbed off. Customers think they are getting haddock when in fact they are getting cheap whiting at close to haddock prices. One of the cheapest fish at peterhead fish market. Slap on the batter and no-one can tell. Thats why its not called a haddock supper now. England eats more cod . An anonymous customer ? nominates there shop for an award. Must be the guy with the paint brush who put up there award sign. Those signs are all over scotland and england . The painters are anonymous also.

Plenty more fish in the sea, fish and chips for me? Its got to be the plaice to be.

Had a battered fish and a dressed fish supper last night as we were told this is one of the best chippy',s around. We travelled from South Ayrshire to give them a try and we were not disappointed with the fish but someone needs to tell them how to make chips. They were quite hard and gritty as if the oil/,fat needed changing, Sorry but passed a lot of better chippy's on the road up.

Was really good, we had a fish supper and a kids sausage supper for our grandson and it came complete with fruit shoot. I knocked a star 🌟 off as we had to wait over 20 minutes, I understand they make fresh but this was teatime so you would think they would keep making them at this time as it was very busy.

100% the best chip shop in Scotland wouldn’t go anywhere else the foods always spot on fresh and the staff are very friendly they can’t do enough for you.

My family travel from Irvine to enjoy the food here - The BEST small fish supper I've ever tried, the fish is so thick the chips are amazing- I would highly recommend to everyone!!! I've worked in a few chip shops over the years so I defo know a good chippy when I taste it, and this is one of the best!

First time visit and I'm afraid the last , friendly staff good service but food not what I expected , frozen fish battered and very greasy chips hard . Very hard to park as it's on a small side street across from a car showroom and right at traffic lights can can a lot of problems

As former regular buyers at "Another Plaice to Be", a rival and more local fish shop which shut down,we have had to look around for alternatives and "A Plaice to Be" seemed to fit the bill. I would agree with all those who have stated that the shop is spotless, you are served fairly quickly and the overall product is good. HOWEVER! if you look at the shops own publicity photo and consider the size of the portion of chips included I can confirm this is typical. Tonight's fish supper had a ridiculously small portion of, yes the fish was acceptable, yes the mushy peas were okay BUT this was meant to be a meal not a snack. Sorry! wont be back, Gemma likes her chips and frankly 19 is not an acceptable portion for anyone. Why skimp on the cheapest ingredient, pathetic!!!!!!

This is quite a good chippy, but on occasions it can be a hit or a miss, which is disappointing, when they are busy I feel standards slip like lack of concentration the food then is overdone and burnt. On the plus side the shop is clean and the counter staff pleasant.

Fantastic fish and chips. Was busy (Saturday night) but I did not have to wait that long. Large portions. Good quality fish. Displays information about where the fish was sourced on the walls. Reasonably priced.

Due to all the comments I have heard about this Chip Shop, I decided to drive across town, to try it out. Everyone seems to be saying that it is the besy "Chippy" in Kilmarnock, but I must disagree, as I think that there are at least two better "Chippies" than this.The food was quite good, but I wouldn't say great.
