Sailed here, having started in Bodo, Norway. Enjoyed Westray and the Pierowall Bar/Restaurant. All 3 of us were happy with our food in the restaurant and drinks from the bar. Realised there was what seemed like a 'locals' bar when I walked to the toilets.

Delicious food and very good attentive service. Had the tusk fish because we had not heard of it and it was excellent. Good portions, prices a little high but the place is very remote, their transport costs must be high. Ambience a little dated, but very clean and tidy.

I stayed at the Pierowall with a friend as part of a regular visit to Westray. Lena and her team are fantastic. From sorting arrangements to bring dogs to being flexible around meal times because of other commitments. Warm, comfortable, great food and drink plus the best of Westray hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone visiting this incredible island.

Well what can I say……..just absolutely amazing. We stayed as a family for one night, my mum and I shared a room and then my sister with her 2 grown up kids shared another where they were like enough to give a single bed on the floor to accommodate our needs. Rooms are great, clean, and lovely coffee/tea facilities. Nothing was a bother if we needed anything. We had our evening meal which was absolutely fantastic, 3 of us had monkfish which was outstanding, and mum and my niece had a curry and all 5 of us left clean plates. Our rooms included breakfast which again was absolutely faultless, we left very happy and will be back…….soon I hope. Great work from all the staff and management, thanks from us all

We ate here one night white staying at "The Barn" campsite. The staff were really welcoming, friendly and fun. The menu is quite limited - a few curries, casseroles, pies and fish dishes - but we had a very tasty meal. We shared a starter, had 2 mains and 2 desserts plus a beer, a large glass of wine and 2 coffees, and the bill was £58 which we thought was very reasonable. We had booked as advised by the staff at the Barn but for a long time we were the only ones in the restaurant, but later it filled up. We went back to the bar the next night, just for a drink, and the restaurant was doing very good business so I think it might be best to book ahead.

We took advantage of the hotel being open over a weekend, several times. Despite two ferry crossings to get to the island, being off season and ferry cancellations due to weather there was a good choice to eat. Everything I tried was great and the staff were always great. We didn’t stay at the hotel but from what we seen wouldn’t hesitate to do so. It was a cosy friendly spot to have a coffee or a meal or just escape the wind. ( we knew what to expect in November ) We hope to visit the island again and will certainly pop in.

You are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome here. The food is great, particularly, of course, the fish. This tastes as if it has just been caught - they clearly have a good relationship with local fisheries. We are eating here every day during our Westray stay. We had been worried that post lockdown everything would be closed; where we are staying has no kitchen. But we are more than happy to eat here all week. Key Lime Pie a light and airy dessert for every day too! I really recommend this restaurant, offering cheap, well-cooked meals with friendly and prompt service. Do remember restaurant starts early, at 5, and shuts shop at 8.

16 of us descended on the Pierowall restaurant for dinner on a Thursday night to a warm welcome. This was the beginning of the regatta weekend and things were shaping up to be great all around. The staff were helpful when we booked and the table was ready when we arrived. It was a varied menu with local meat, fish and veggies on offer and everyone in our group found something, if not found it hard to choose between a couple of choices. The food was all delicious and although we were a big group came through in good time and service was well handled. We enjoyed three courses and after dinner drinks, followed by and impromptu quiz. The staff did not rush us away from our table so we were able to relax long afterwe had finished eating - a great night.

We visited here for an early dinner with friends. The menu is fairly simple but has some straightforward items done well. I had haddock and chips made with local fish which was delicious. One friend had a steak which was a decent size and succulent. Another had the tomato pasta which was made vegan for her on request and was also good. There was also a good choice of children’s meals. Book ahead if you want to eat here. Apart from Jimmy's chippy (only open 2 nights a week) the Pierowall Hotel is the only place to dine in Pierowall, so it's popular with locals & tourists alike. We ordered lamb. The meat was ok but there were issues with the rest of the meal. Clumpy, white gravy so thick it wouldn't pour from the gravy boat. Hubby used a knife to try to get some flow going but it didn't really move, however, we could spread it like a jam. The mashed potatoes were unseasoned and dry. The frozen carrots and peas were OK. Dessert was supposed to be rhubarb crumble pie with ice cream. The ice cream was very good, the crumble pie didn't have a crunchy crumble and was too sweet. It was just kind of mushy. The wait staff was rushed off their feet but tried their best and really tried to provide a good service. This small hotel has a good supply of local Orkney beers. Their wine is from a box but it wasn't dire. The German version was quite decent for a box. It is well sited in the center of Pierowall Village and has comfy seats outside for a decent day in the sun.

Meal for two, well cooked and friendly staff. It is NOT the grill room at the Savoy, but it is not Savoy prices. Simple home made food, I had the Orkney beef burger and it was as good a burger as I have had anywhere, and I was a chef for 13 years. The only negative comment is more use could have been made of local produce such as the fish and shell fish, but that is just my opinion. It's clean, the food is good with plenty of it, the service was good despite a staff shortage and it was good value for the money, will go back next time I holiday on Westray

All the staff were excellent with the young man coping extremely well with our banter! Service was spot on although Alec at the next table wasn't so happy as his starter got lost somewhere after leaving the kitchen. Mussels starter was amazing, big portion of plump, tasty, mussels with no grit and a delicious sauce mopped up with fresh bread. Breaded cod with chips was equally tasty, a good sized portion and very fresh. The last portion of apple and pear crumble with both ice cream and custard, and 7 rather unnecessary blueberries was shared among us and well worth a taste. Definitely worth a return visit

I enjoyed my time here - the staff were friendly and there was a good selection of bottled Orkney beers. I liked the IPA and Dark Island. Being February, in a not very touristy Island, I didn't expect a fancy menu, as there were few guests. The fish & chips and macaroni cheese were fine. The food was solid and warming, which suited our budgets and the cold windy weather. Predictably, the fish and chips take away is better, but that only opens twice a week! In many ways this place is a like a trip down memory lane and not in a good way. It was a bit like dishing out in the 1980s.The selection is odd and umimaginitive. Do people coming to Orkney really want a selection of curry? I would have thought they want local fresh produce. The chips are frozen, which is a poor show. I doubt the macaroni and cheese used Orkney cheese, which is nice. There was homemade tartar sauce with the fish, why bother going to that effort when the chips are frozen? Disappointingly and there is no excuse on this island, the haddock was dry.The wine selection by the glass is really poor too.Maybe these places ar just complacent. Or maybe they require support from places like Visit Scotland to improve standards. Anyway, it was really disappointing and it does detract a bit from what was a relly positive experience on a beautiful island. Eating here after a great day walking around this fantastic place, could and should be fantastic.Going self catering or spending Wednesday or Saturday night here, when the chippy is one, would be a better bet.

Just back from staying 3 nights in the wonderful very dog friendly Lynnfield Hotel in Kirkwall. We have stayed in several other hotels in Kirkwall but none of them came up to the standard of the Lynnfield Hotel. Malcolm and his staff couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than they did. Our room, the Melsetter Suite was just wonderful. A fantastic mira shower and a space age jacuzzi bath etc etc! The food was simply delicious. We had intended eating elsewhere on one of the nights but after dinner in the Lynnfield Hotel the first night we continued to eat in house for the duration of our stay. For dog owners, look no further. All the staff are very dog friendly. Rusty our Welsh terrier can’t wait to go back! Very highly recommended.

This small community is to drive through, and not a destination. Because of the hour, we elected to stop here for dinner. The small restaurant was cozy, the service friendly and helpful and the food, surprisingly very good, beyond our expectations. The scallops were outstanding and the steaks were nothing less than perfect. A selection of food items for kids simplified our stop, and the selection of beers and ales made it even more interesting.
