Today me and my friends went to the Phu Siam for dinner and it was so great. I got the Rad Prig with chicken and spicy chips as the side. The food was splendid and the sauce added a grand flavour. Brad, our waiter was so lovely and welcoming and made us feel as though we could ask anything when needed. Lovely service and great experience overall. LOVED the interior design and would DEFINETLY go again.

I made the mistake of visiting this establishment with my partner, both in our sixties, and was met by an extremely rude and nasty owner who waved large knife around from behind the counter as he repeatedly said NO, NO, NO. a very unnerving and disturbingly unpleasant experience, I will most certainly not be returning.

We enjoy Thai food and this restaurant seemed to get generally good reviews so decided to try it. The ambience doesn’t help- bright lighting and melamine tables with Thai-style runners. I ordered a glass of house white wine, which wasn’t very nice and had a weird after-taste. My husband ordered a half of Tiger beer but they brought a pint and that had to be sent back. I ordered a Massaman curry with salmon and my husband ordered a prawn red curry, but when they arrived the sauces tasted almost identical (not very nice) and mine was very sweet and contained big slices of potato- surely not a regular Thai vegetable- and a few tomatoes. Definitely won’t be going back.

If you like Thai then this is a good place in Lerwick. Very clean inside and staff are courteous and friendly Good choice on menu and ideal for those new to Thai as not too spicy. However we are seasoned Thai eaters and found the dishes a little too underspiced The Thai fish cakes were good but under spiced. The chicken satay is served cold which we found odd However the chicken massaman was very good and the sirloin steak choo chee was very good but again a little under spiced Popular with locals and good take away too It also opens on Monday which is quite rare on Shetland

We went as part of a group who had booked the upstairs room. The restaurant knew over a week before we arrived. There was a long wait for starters which were served in dribs and drabs. The staff were not organised - came out carrying a plate then went back for another. The main courses were A,B,C,D and totally chaotic. None of the food was served together, food was cold and we never got our rice.We left before some even got their food. Totally unapologetic and still charged the full amount. Customer service not good. The staff need better training and when we left there were several tables downstairs. They took on too much and didn't deliver. An expensive waste of money.

I got in early before a few other tables filled up. The service was good, clean and good music that wasn’t too loud. I had prawn 🦐 purée as a starter followed by red Thai curry and egg fried rice. The food was fantastic and I couldn’t fault this along with the service. The only downside is the young lad dressed well could have smiled at least once and the other could have dressed better than having a pair of faded jeans and a hoody. A small observation and definitely not a complaint as the food and service you couldn’t fault.

I ordered a sit-down meal from the takeaway menu and was charged £19.25 vs £14.10. I thought this was a substantial mark up for eating-in, but blamed myself for not checking the eat-in menu prices first. I trusted the lady and didn’t check. On my second visit, I ordered a single £5 takeaway dish. The lady attempted to charge me £6 for this. I assumed that I must have an out of date menu, so this time, checked the ones on the counter. They were the same as mine. I pointed this out and without argument, was charged the correct price of £5. Whilst the food was quite nice, if a little sweet, I can’t stand being ripped-off, so won’t be returning to this restaurant.

In fairness, the restaurant was overwhelmed by an unusually high customer turnout on a Monday evening. The attending manager needed to call her daughter in to help! They managed not to keep people waiting too much but the food seemed to betray the rush. The available choice was varied but I do not think I would rush back there. Even in July, however, Lerwick does not welcome the travelling diner: little capacity; early closing etc.

I found limited options to eat around Lerwick during my stay, as someone who can't eat seafood - my options were reduced even more. When I found this place I figured I'd give it a go - and returned the next 2 nights. The place was simple and empty when I ate there - but I ate early so it may get busier later in evening. The service was friendly and simple - it isn't claiming to be a 5 star restaurant and it doesn't need to be. There's a large selection of choices and the meals I ate were great. If I return to Lerwick, I'll return here.

Welcoming atmosphere - the restaurant was clean and tidy. However, it was one of the worst Thai meals I’ve ever had. It wasn’t that the food wasn’t edible (it was) or that the food arrived arrived cold (it arrived relatively hot) but:...it was expensive for what it was (£47)...the prawns, across the different dishes, were translucent and undercooked...the “seafood sizzler” came warm and sitting in a pool of watery sauce....all the ‘seafood options’ were that of the prawns (very few - 2 or 3 per dish) and too many baby mussels (the frozen variety you can get in supermarket). The seafood sizzler mentioned earlier was a mains priced at £14.There aren’t many restaurants in Lerwick for evening meals, and the Phusiam had many positive reviews on tripadvisor. For those returning to Aberdeen from Lerwick, I highly recommend Madame Kew’s in Aberdeen market. My partner and I had a far superior meal for less than half the price compared to the Phusiam.

On our first night in Lerwick in self-catering accommodation very close to Phu Siam, we decided to grab a takeaway for the four of us, largely based on the Tripadvisor reviews and because we hadn't had a Thai meal in ages. Whilst the sticky rice was very good, our main meals were variable in quality. I had the green curry, which tasted fine but the curry sauce was very thin. The quality of the chicken was mediocre. The yellow curry was much better. Our friends had the red curry and weren't too impressed. We didn't return during our week's stay.

Very enjoyable Thai food. We had the set meal for 2 which was rather too much in quantity (for me, though probably not for everyone) but there was no faulting the quality. It was nicely presented and served by the owner herself, who was welcoming and helpful and whose graciousness contributed to a pleasant occasion. This is a fairly small restaurant so not suitable for large parties, but perfect for small groups of friends or couples. There was very little to indicate you were sitting in a Thai restaurant other then the staff. The furnishings were comfortable but no atmosphere. There were two prawn dishes on the starter menu, so I ordered the pepper prawns. I was so disappointed when I was served four (freezer food shop) thickly battered prawns on a bed of shredded dry cabbage with a chilli dip. Shetland has a wealth of fresh seafood on its doorstep, so there is no excuse to use bulk buy pre-made seafood. The Thai green chicken curry should have been described as soup with a little offering of chicken. I will not comment on the taste as everyone has different views on taste. The portions were large. I was sitting with my back to a large flat screen which I believe was showing Thai programs and at the other end of the restaurant two female staff members were sitting slouched out at a table watching the screen. I missed the warm Thai welcome and atmosphere which I have witnessed in other Thai restaurants.

After hearing good things, we decided to try out Phusiam. There was 6 of us and we got the starter platter which was lovely but things went downhill from here....I ordered a dish which was described as crispy chicken stir fried with green beans, baby corn, onions etc. The reality was bit of battered chicken and onion rings. When I questioned this, the waitress told me she did not know what to say and shortly after this, the chef came out but was extremely hard to understand - I think he told me the dish had been changed but the menu had not. As I ate very little of my main, I decided to order a banana split but the waitress presented me with a banana fritter. When I told her she was serving the wrong thing she told me there had been a mix up in the kitchen and basically gave me no choice but to accept.Needless to say, I'll not be going back. Why have a menu when you don't serve items on it.

Last time I was here I had Pad Thai which tasted excellent although presentation wasn't the best. Sterile dining area didn't bode well with awful canned music playing in the background. Food was excellent and good value. All other diners were referred from the Glen Orchy Guest House and, somewhat embarrassingly were made to pay for drinks in the middle of their meal and some were made to produce room keys before they would be served - very awkward for non-resident customers such as myself. Coffee was truly awful and the mesh on the cafetierre must have been broken judging by the amount of coffee grounds swimming in my drink.Frustrating as this could be awesome!

Authentic Thai -unexpectedly good for such a remote place. Itw as not busy- filthy wet dark dreary night - warm welcome- very enthusiastic and friendly staff. We had a lovely meal - great spices and piping hot, and generous portions. Great value. Not busy the night we were there- hope this place continues to thrive

A bit if an unknown gem in the centre if Tim, this restaurant deserves to be much busier than it is - great food, great value and the smilies the chef around. I understand they are now doing a buffet meal on a Monday evening from 5.30 which no doubt will be even better value

On our travels we usually prefer local food, but sometimes we like a different taste, Thai for example. This restaurant is well located in the city centre, just opposite of a parking area. The appearance of the entrance is not very welcoming due to the added take away counter, but the friendly staff welcomes you right at the door. That early evening we were the only guests and got our dishes in reasonable time. The food was tasty and came in generous portions. Don't expect an atmospheric place and you won't be disappointed.

3 of us had intended eating in the Grand Hotel, but after asking for a menu we were told they were overbooked and only had one chef one and we would have to wait. We decided to go to Phusiam, which was actually full, but they made a little rearrangement so we could be seated. The menu is quite varied and not ALL Thai food. I had the coconut soup with mushroom, and Mussaman Curry with Chicken. Both delicious. Good service. Highly recommended!

There isn't much choice for food in Lerwick so this place was a nice surprise. The duck makkam was fab. Service was fine...mix up with a drink and hubbys meal delivered to the wrong table (but this was fixed with a new fresh dish in a minute)....nothing that would put me off going here....the food made it worth it!

We were working in Shetland for a week in April and ate here twice. We weren't planning on doing that, but we enjoyed it so much the first time we went back for a 2nd evening. I'm not a great lover of Thai food, but I really did enjoy the various veggie dishes that I had and my carnivore friend demolished everything that was put in front of him and then raved on about it all endlessly. Will be going back for another week in July and will definitely be going back. Highly recommended!

Don't go here unless you are prepared to wait over an hour for your food. We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down. I counted 14 people in the restaurant waiting for their food. After an hour my husband got up and asked the owner what was taking so long. "We have a busy take out business" she said. The diners are put behind all the take out orders. It was 1 1/2 hours to get our order. It was stifling hot in the building,no windows and the server told us to choose between rices with our dinners. We thought it was included. The bill came it wasn't. We paid over $50USD for our dinner we waited 1 1/2 hours to get and took us 15 minutes to eat. We talked to the owner again when we left and she didn't seem to care. The takeout business was over by then. There were 4 unserved diners left. The food was so so. Our meals were overcooked.

OK, so by London standards, this Thai is somewhat mundane, but for Lerwick, it's worth checking out. The 'foreign' cuisine on offer in Lerwick (which is the MAIN town of the whole of the Shetland Islands, remember), is somewhat lacking in pizzazz. It's OK, but all a bit 1970s, sometimes. There's nothing wrong with that, but this Thai produces some nice tasty dishes which look right and don't come awash with gooey or dayglo sauces. Good, friendly atmosphere and a lot of regulars make for a nice relaxed time.

We went here for a quick dinner on a saturday night. The food was very very tasty. The lady who served us gave fantastic service and really tried hard to make sure we ordered something we would like. The only negative was that as there was only 4 of us in the restaurant at the time it was echoingly quiet and that made it hard to enjoy the whole dinner. When they did put music on to soften the atmosphere... "war was over" in May wasn't quite what the diners expected :) did make us laugh - worth a visit!

Pretty amazing Thai food at very reasonable prices but no atmosphere whatsoever and an unwelcoming entrance through the take-away.Shame because the food is special.

Went here for a meal. Lovely staff and good atmosphere. We had the mixed starter platter which was excellent. Asked if they would give us half an hour until the next course which was no problem. We had the Thai red wine which was lovely. I had the sirloin steak in hot curry sauce. Not a huge steak but plenty. The sauce and veg was a very tasty and the veg decorations a lovely touch. One bowl of rice and one portion of noodles did four of us. Had hot banana in coconut and ice cream. Best meal we've had in ages will definitely be back

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant just recently this week as we've never tried Thai food before. The food seemed very appetising from its menu on their website but showed a bit too little detail on what were the ingredients in some of their dishes, once we made our order and phoned the restaurant it took a while for the person on the receiving end of the phone to hear what we were ordering. After we got our takeaway, the food we hoped would be delicious was more or less disapproving. The prawn tempura was half cooked, the spring rolls were a bit tasteless and the chicken on sticks were a bit spicy for liking (as I said, it was our first try on Thai food cuisine). I had a Thai-style sweet and sour chicken with "lots of mixed vegetables" it said on the website, I reasonably disappointed to find only green beans and leafy greens, probably cabbage but not sure, the sauce was very spicy and watery while the chicken was very good but the sauce did overpower my taste buds as I needed a pint of milk or two as I don't particularly like foods which are spicy. All in all, we'd stick to Chinese and Indian restaurants as well as takeaways because there's plenty of them in the town!

Excellent meal, lovely staff, and a wide choice on the menu. The owner asked me "Why you like Thai food? Have you been to Thailand?" which was hilarious. Next time I am in Lerwick I will definitely be popping in.

Right by the ferry terminal so the ideal place to wait for a crossing. This is popular with workmen and with families. They serve a wide range of food and drinks. From snacks to full meals. From breakfasts to afternoon teas. I enjoyed a coffee and a tray bake. Would have called in twice more during my visit to Yell but it was closed.

Fantastic value for money, great food cooked while you wait, they say breakfast sets you up for the day well the large breakfast will keep you going all day and more. It was the only place open when the boat comes in at 7.00 but was an oasis on a dreich morning, superb.

Welcome back to Dave and his excellent team, who now own MacKenzies. Massive step forward, simple but excellent menu, very well cooked food with perfect hosts A must if you are passing or an old customer who lost faith in the previous owner. Our Friday regular is back!

Such a sour face. Why not a happy greeting? Even the words gave the feeling I wasn't really welcome. The crispy noodle chow Mien was flavorless and some noodles were burned just as the initial smell indicated. Sloppy cooking.
