Phoenix Chinese Takeaway in Exeter

Without doubt the worst take away we have ever had. I have had some dodgy meals over my life ,but this takes the biscuit (if only I had bought a packet of biscuits). The blandest curry EVER just horrible gloop. My wife had over cooked leather chicken balls with a curry sauce which was a different colour to my curry and was the best part of the two meals. They gave us a big bag of prawn crackers which when you taste you will realise why they were free1 Avoid . Carry on to Wan's or on to the Golden Wok for a decent meal, AWFUL!

Phoenix 鄒記 is a small shop with a real Hong Kong Chinese name. That's I chose to try it out. I went twice, the second time with my daughter. We chose to sit down and had our meals. It's a no-frills shop in terms of decoration. Yet, I've found that it's the best Chinese food in Exeter so far. Authentic style, not too much sauce for some dishes, some people may find them too dry. But this is what we like. The price is very friendly too. It's run by a family with the lady taking orders by phone and in person. The chef, the father Mr. Chow 鄒生 is friendly. He came out to greet us and we had a pleasant chat.

Lovely food as usual, cooked freshly and served hot for when we picked it up. Good value too. Served and cooked by a lovely friendly family. Would recommend, Note they only take cash and orders over the phone.

Ordered a takeaway from here for the first time & won’t be ordering from here again unfortunately. The special fried rice was nice, but that was all *Prawn crackers were really stale/soft. Must have been day old?? The worst prawn crackers ever! *Prawn chow mein did not look very fresh. Noodles didn’t look or taste very nice *Prawn toasts & chicken balls were over cooked/too crunchy and not nice *Crispy seaweed was tough and dry

Collected our food order this evening took it home and was disappointed as the curry was cold, I rang to let them know and received a woman shouting down the phone at me !!! Saying it can’t be cold we are busy it’s cooked..... not the way to treat a customer !!! Shan’t be returning.....

Carne crujiente, especial de Phoenix con chow mien, cerdo asado con verduras mixtas y curry de verduras mixtas. Recogidos como vivimos cerca. El tiempo de cocción fue rápido y la comida agradable.

The food didn't taste well. I had "mixed vegetables" which turned out to be simply soy-bean sprouts and onions. The quality of the food was poor and even for a "cheap eats" restaurant the cost-benefit-ratio was too low. I wouldn't go there a second time.

We tried this takeaway because it had such good reviews on Tripadvisor. The reviews also said they delivered and that the food arrived piping hot. Strangely, therefore, when we telephoned to order we were told they did not deliver. Undeterred, we called in to collect. The food was awful! The lemon chicken tasted so processed and the Szechwan beef was hot but apart from that had no flavour. The beef itself was chewy. I can only guess that maybe the business's has changed hands? Such a shame as we had high hopes.

We have had many excellent meals from the Pheonix but the last 3 have taken much longer than they indicated to be delivered. On Friday 45mins turned out to be 90 min. Extremely embarrassing as we had invited friends. Will try alternatives before using again

I know everyone has a personal preference for Chinese food, but for us... the price, quality of the food and authenticity of the food makes this a stand out family favourite... I think we drive past 4 other Chinese restaurant to go here and will continue to do so! (Amazing curry sauce by the way)!

Good food at a very reasonable price.... We ordered enough to keep us going for the next evening too and all for £40. Very impressed and will use them again next time we are in Exeter.

Living in Clyst St Mary is sometimes difficult to find a takeaway who will deliver this far out, not the Phoenix!! They were very friendly on the phone. The delivery driver called me when he was 5 minutes away to find our exact location he was also very friendly, when the food arrived it was piping hot and very good!! We will definitely be using them again!!

This has got to be one of the best Chinese takeaways around and deffo the cheeper of the ones around Fast friendly service Good food and lots of it Try it you won't regret it 😃

The food is great, the price is great, the speed is great. The best Chinese takeaway we have found in Exeter so far.

You could blink and miss this tiny little takeaway which is housed in what used to be the old Post Office at the top of Cowick Street. But it's well worth a visit. Friendly and helpful staff, good prices and most importantly, excellent food. We have ordered from here numerous times now and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently excellent. Best special fried rice ever!

Went to this restaurant yesterday with some friends in the evening. I am surprised it stills open at around 9pm. The place is clean, hygiene and quiet. Seating space is larger than average Chinese takeaway. Menu is easy to read, a lot of varieties and choices. Many Cantonese styled cuisine and some westernised Chinese food. Ordered two meal deal, food arrived quite quickly. The fried rice is delicious, chicken chop suey is nice, meat is succulent and the sauce is authentic. Spare ribs is perfectly done, very meaty and juicy. The dessert banana fritters is spectacular, sweet and well presented, banana inside is fresh and soft. All meal comes with generous free prawn crackers. It will be great if there is a complimentary fortune cookies. Will definitely come again.

Went there with some friends quite late at night and surprise it is opened. The menu has a varieties of food, mostly Cantonese style.
