Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and good attentive service.

Very nice place with friendly service (family style) and really good food. I recommend the steamed seabass: excellent! I chose the garlic option, but I am sure that the other option is equally good. I would definitely go back to try other dishes.

I have been to the restaurant many, many times, I may even have another review on here, because the food has always been amazing, sadly, their behaviour the other Sunday means I will never set foot in their restaurant again and will advise others not to. I'm disabled and have an assistant dog. For the many times I have been to this restaurant over the last 10 years, my assistance dog has always been with me and I've never had an issue. Recently, they changed their tables and now there are no table cloths for my assistance dog to hide under. On Sunday I attended with my assistance dog and my assistance dog in training, who will be replacing my assistance dog shortly and who is learning to fit into my life, so gaining experience. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and we were welcomed. We picked a table out of the way on the right side of the restaurant that is split in two with a thick wall. Both my assistance dog and assistance dog in training were labelled as such and sat quietly beside me and made no noise and no fuss the entire time. We ordered drinks and food, all of which was lovely, we were coming to the end of the main course and were considering coffee and dessert when the waitress informed us that they had had a complaint from a another customer about the dogs and we had to stop enjoying our meal and leave. And not JUST leave, but leave via the back door and alley. Like we were some dirty little secret they didn't want anyone to know. I pointed out that they were not legally (Equity Act 2020) allowed to throw out my assistance dog, but they just shrugged - clearly breaking the law is fine by them. While my assistance dog in training is NOT covered by the law, we would not have come in in the first place if his presence had not been permitted from the start, but we were welcomed in. The worst part of it was that there was NOBODY in our section of the restaurant so some nasty piece of work went out of their way to make my life more difficult and unpleasant and the restaurant made the choice that they would rather insult the disabled person and break the law than deal with the other customer. This entire unpleasant event has deeply upset me and made me feel like the staff at this restaurant have no understanding of the law, disability or common decency.

Thai crackers stale and inedible. Thai rolls only just passable. Very disappointed

We ordered a Thai salad, Thai noodles with squid and king prawns. Salad was nice, noodles reheated and were aver done. If they get noodles wrong with a few little prawns not king then there's a problem. Payed and won't be going back. Didn't leave a tip and should have known the place was empty on a Saturday night

I went without expecting much, but I was blown away! The food was absolutely amazing, bursting with flavor. The service was also incredibly quick, which was a big plus.

I dined here with my parents, and we had a gorgeous meal, served by wonderful, attentive staff. The food was so well presented (sorry, no photos!) and tasted as good as it looked. One of the best restaurants of this type of cuisine in Manchester. The lunch time specials are extremely good value for money and the quality of food exceptional with the best of ingredients and skills to put great food on your plate and always served with a warm welcome and smile. Hands down, the best food I've had in Altrincham. Its such a low key spot for some very very high key food. Came here more than a few lunch dates with my husband, and we've loved it every single time.

I went here with a friend for what we thought would be a nice midweek catch up meal and despite the food tasting nice I really regretted it hours after eating! I had ordered sweetcorn cakes and then tofu pad thai, what I thought were very safe dishes. However, within 6 hours I had quite an upset stomach and couldn't leave the toilet! I had only eaten a cheese sandwich at lunch and therefore know it must be this food. It begs the question what an earth is the hygiene like in the kitchen for vegetarian food to have poisoned me! Avoid if you don't want to get ill!

Was passing so thought would give it a try, from the outside looks nothing special, inside very surprising, staff very friendly and informative, the wife ordered Thai fish cakes for starter and I ordered the sharing platter. The wife's was very good, mine was disappointing its definitely not for sharing just enough for 1 person. The mains the wife ordered fried chilli seabass which tbh was amazing loved the way it came out in a fish shaped dish. I ordered a yellow curry which was also amazing. Overall we would definitely come back here

Something has changed over the last year or so. The friendly welcome seems to have dissapeared (it's all about the transaction). I chose to get takeaway the last two occasions, two of the £10+ meal cartons were only two thirds full. I could see the gap on the top item in the bag and pointed it out but then it was clear that they did not see the problem. I've been going there for years, it's not cheap but I didn't mind paying for a treat now and again. I think I'll give it a break until I hear that it's back up to scratch.

Lovely family restaurant in the heart of Altrincham, which we have missed for years. Went for an early dinner meal with 2 young children, which would always be very tricky for a sit down meal. All staff were very friendly and welcoming, making sure we're looked after and to give us great recommending when choosing our dishes. Will definitely visit again in the near future!

If you like a truly non- authentic sad excuse for “Thai” food served with a large side of attitude - must hit this spot. Sorry, but a smile and genuine interest to serve your non white guest goes a long way even if your food isn’t that great.

Rude ... Absolutely Rude!! Bad service indeed. I had dinner with family and friends with kids on 6 August. This lady graded my credit card from hand when I was paying the bill. Bill was mess. Customer needs to check the items on the bill before making payment. Strongly not recommended.

We visited on consecutive nights on a Thursday and Friday. All three of us had a stir fry the first night. It was simply superb and one of the most satisfying meals any of us have had for some time. The next night, two of us repeated the choice, I chose the Red Duck Curry. The curry is one I have a lot in Australia and was one of the best I ever tasted. Everyone's meal was again delicious. However, the level of service was out of this world. Smiling, helpful and always available staff, who even dress in traditional Thai clothing at the weekend. What an experience. Will be back for sure

UPDATE: google won't let me reply to manager comment directly so here it is - I believe you are confusing me with someone else as I didn't even have my phone on me... you're saying i was rude, but every time i go, before and after i gave birth you guys were always talking to me and my children. hence me finding it strange that i was ignored _____________________________ Today, I decided to place an order over the phone for me to collect. Upon arrival I went into the restaurant and was ignored for some time. During which the lady looked at me 3 times, I said "hello how are you" (with 3 different volumes) and was ignored each time. She then picked up the phone, I brought it up to her and said "I feel as if you are ignoring me" she replied "I'm busy yeah". I was very unhappy. She then left to go collect my food from the kitchen. When she returned I thought that perhaps she didn't understand that I had been trying to get her attention and so asked her if she was aware that I had greeted her and that she ignored me, she said yes she was aware. I asked why she ignored me and she said she would get the manager. The situation quickly escalated, as the manager arrived and I asked if it was a language barrier we were having or if there was another issue. I explained I was only saying hello to her and didn't understand why I was being ignored. He told me to take my food and asked me if I was going to pay cash or card. I felt he dismissed the situation and repeated my question. Manager stated "if you don't take your food, you will be banned". I was in shock! "Why am I going to be banned? I simply explained that I am not happy with today's services and your response is banning me?" seeing that I have been coming here for over 5 years now I felt very hurt with what was happening. This restaurant has been where my family and I make our celebrations for years! A lot of special moments occured in here, so the fact that the manager was so quick to threaten to ban me caught me by surprise.... The manager told me again to take the food. I said I would not be threatened into it and I would only take the food if he reduce the price as an apology for their behaviour today. He declined, told me I was banned and to not return. I left.

Great friendly service, with good, but not great food. We enjoyed the Po Pia Tod and the Gung Pow (the spicy seafood sauce was excellent). Then had the Paneang, which for my palette lacked depth of flavour, and the Pad Khing. Great place for a Friday evening meal with good food.

Went to this lovely restaurant last night for family birthday celebrations. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing. My husband had vegetable spring rolls to start with although nice he did comment that th sweet chilli sauce lacked in flavour. Mains I had Duck in tamarinds sauce with Cashew nuts with egg fried rice and I have to say it's the biggest portion of duck I've had in a restaurant I was pleasantly surprised, although would have liked more sauce to cover the rice. Husband had chicken stir fry with mushrooms, garlic and chilli. He found it nice although the texture didn't quite feel right. Dessert was 2 scoops of honeycomb Ice cream but the ice cream itself was vanilla with honeycomb as there was no flavour and for the price paid want all that impressive Would recommend

We haven’t been to the restaurant for a while, but decided to go with some friends. Outstanding experience, the food was just amazing, probably one of the best Red Thai Curries I have eaten in years. I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant for the last five years! The last two times I ordered food, it tasted awful and I received my orders very late! It is sad to see they fall from such a high quality restaurant to what they are today! I also called them to ask why there was a delay and was replied inappropriately!

First time in here - my husband picked the place for Valentine's day, not really knowing where exactly it was or what to expect, and we both absolutely loved it. The menu has a large selection of dishes and everything we had, from the mixed starter plate to the massaman curry to the yellow bean pork and broccoli was delicious. Really enjoyed it! The service is attentive and friendly and we were made to feel welcome from the time we set foot inside to the time we left. Will definitely be back again, and will DEFINITELY have the massaman curry again - it's DELICIOUS!

to celebrate my wife's birthday took her to the Thai Phanthong restaurant in Altrincham tonight and what an experience it was, the staff jolly and pleasant and made you feel very welcome, the meal we had 5* the curry outstanding and treated my wife to a surprise and sang happy birthday to her along with other people there, so thank you to all the staff at the Phanthong. Would give MINUS 12 stars out of 5 if given the option! Staff (including the manager) were very rude and unfriendly. There was only two of us and the place was quite empty at the time, we were ignored for the first 30 mins we were there until we asked for service… When it got busier later into the evening the wait between the starter and the main was too long. The main was awful and very cold (like the “hostess”). I would not recommend and I have attached a pic as proof that I did go. I’d suggest going to Thai Kitchen No.6 cos unlike this place they have - wonderful food, service with a smile and most importantly offer Coke Zero! 🍽️🥢🫗

This was Christmas lunch. The food quality was good. Portion sizes were small. Quirky location inside what looks like an old pub. Very nicely finished inside.

Works meal out 25+ people - food ok but for the 6-8 of us sat right in front of the door it was freezing - heating not working, staff would not shut the outer door or close the blinds to stop the draft through the windows! Ended up eating with coats and gloves on. Staff thought it was funny.

Food is ok. Small portion, I wish the waitress can smile. They seem to be not bothered. This is the first restaurant I didn’t pay service charge. Unpleasant experience. Will never go back.

Best Thai food ive had in a very long time, and great value for money

I must say that overall I was disappointed . The venue was average , dead bulbs affecting the lighting . The food was not very tasty and left me wanting . Finally the service was not the best . Perhaps I've been spoilt eating at Dee Thai now Yubo .

Freshly prepared starters and mains in a lovely setting. The dishes were fragrant with a good kick of fresh herbs and spices

Portion size a little small for price but slightly expected for a fancy looking Thai restaurant who changes plates for you between starters and mains (heated plates!) This is especially so for the mixed plate starter... For the mains, flavours are beautiful (we had curries and pad Thai) although both my friend and I weren't sure about the amount of grapes and other fruits that were in one of the curries (no. 46 on the dinner menu) Otherwise the meal overall was good, duck dishes had sufficient ducks and seafood dishes had sufficient seafood. Just beware that most dishes don't come with rice so you have to order that separately. Would come again for the service but would be too pricey for an extremely hungry soul

My sons and I visited on a recent holiday and were not at all disappointed with this wonderful restaurant. The food is outstanding and great value too. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, proving themselves to be professional, friendly and courteous. The Phanthong deserves its 5 star reputation. Excellent!

Table of 4, mid week in the early evening, enjoyed a very good meal with some great dishes, service very good.

Phanthong used to be one of our favourite restaurants which provided delicious food and great service. However we visited this Sunday for the Sunday special service and left with disappointment. They got some new staff and the service is not as good as previous experiences. Most of the waitresses were unfriendly and the restaurant was busy and noisy at the time we visited. Price has gone up which is understandable, we ordered two portions of the noodle dish but only one came and it was smaller portion than before. Needed to wait or draw the waitresses’ attention to get served each time and at the end we just decided to leave even though we wanted to order more. Also most dishes are spicy and not that suitable for children, but they would still charge for young children who didn’t eat much. Didn’t enjoy the meal and won’t visit again after this experience.

Beware ordering takeaways ! I ordered one online for the first time on Sunday. It arrived on time. However one dish was labelled 'Seafood Pad King' on the box, but on opening it, I discovered that it actually contained the beef version, which is £2.40 cheaper. (See photos) The next day I emailed the restaurant, detailing my order and the mix up. I also mentioned that having paid at the time of ordering, I am now owed the above amount. Two days later and no reply from them. I sent another email. Still no reply. It is apparent that Phantong Thai couldn't care less about customer service, or their reputation. I will never order from them again, or set foot in any of their restaurants. I had to give one star in order to post this review. I actually wouldn't give them any stars.

Lovely restaurant in the centre of Altrincham. We didn’t book in advance as we weren’t sure when we would arrive however they did find us a table for two on a busy Saturday night. Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was great. We had the mixed starters which were tasty and decent size followed by mains which again were good portions and freshly cooked. This restaurant has certainly revitalised an old pub and we would be happy to eat there again.

In days of yore, it used to be a hallmark of sophistication that one’s village boasted a Thai restaurant in addition to a chippie, Indian and Chinese restaurant. While that position has now been usurped by the Vietnamese restaurant (or Japanese sushi bar if a nouveau hamlet and Cambodian if hipster commune) there’s no denying that it remains the destination of choice for coconut themed spicy hits of flavour. Being on my door step, Phanthong was a place that I often passed en route to somewhere else, so after a night carousing with my Malay and Singaporean (yes, there is a difference!) friends reminiscing about that usual topic - food and where to eat it, the abject lack of Nasi goreng in Hale came up. Thai was considered to be the next best thing now that Angor Soul has departed. Therefore when I drove past today, I seized the day and popped in for lunch. To be fair my bench mark for a decent Thai lunch has to be the nondescript stalls in Chatuchak market rather than the rarefied offerings at 80/20 on Charoenkrung road. In this regard Phanthong scored full marks. The Moo Ping took a few seconds to impress me with subtlety of the marinade. I must decipher it’s secrets to up my summer BBQ game. The Pad Thai was umami and scrumptious mess all rolled into one. The tamarind was not overwhelming as can occur with an inexperienced chef. I chickened out with dessert opting for the safe option. Now I regret not sampling the banana coconut option. While I could be accused of throwing shade here, the folks at Chilli Banana could certainly learn a thing or two from Phanthong.

We visited on a Sunday and experienced their buffet style menu. The food was amazing and you could try all of the items on the menu for one price. You can order one at a time so they each arrive hot and fresh! The service was great too, very friendly and helpful staff.

Was urged to try a new Thai restaurant in Altrincham (although I love another local Thai restaurant and rate it highly). I am saddened to give a negative review but we waited thirty minutes for someone to take out initial drinks order. The service overall was very slow indeed. The place was sheer chaos including delivery drivers waiting for take-out orders and becoming frustrated because of their wait (which I can understand). It just didn't make for a pleasant dining experience. The food was okay but didn't excite me and wasn't amazing. The noodles were all stuck together in a large mound and absolutely tasteless. I've eaten better and won't be returning here again. Sticking with the other, fantastic Thai place in future.

Great food, but incredibly slow service. 45 minutes to get our starters, all the time sitting next to a constant stream of increasingly irate deliveroo drivers coming in and out. They are clearly understaffed and accepting too many covers and takeaway orders. Sort out the service and it would be great.
